• ASP.NET MVC: Redundant (strongly typed) views in CRUD areas.

  In the CRUD areas of my MVC app I have lots of seemingly pointless view files, such as: <%@ Page Title="" Language="C#" MasterPageFile="Some.Master" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage<SomeModel>" %> <asp:Content ID="ContentID" ContentPlaceHolderID="SomePlaceHolder" runat="server"> <%= Html.DisplayForModel() %> </asp:Content> This is of course pretty unDRY. Is it possible to use a shared view for this while at the same time preserving the Strong Typing? (e.g. by specifying the generic type in the controller?)

  I have a System.Collections.Generic.Dictionary<System.Web.UI.Control, object> where all keys can be either type of System.Web.UI.WebControls.HyperLink or type of System.Web.UI.WebControls.Label. I want to change Text property of each control. Because HyperLink doesn't implement (why??) ITextControl, I need to cast Label or HyperLink explicitly: Dictionary<Control,object> dic = .. dic .Where(p => p.Key is HyperLink) .ForEach(c => ((HyperLink)c).Text = "something") dic .Where(p => p.Key is Label) .ForEach(c => ((Label)c).Text = "something") Are there ways to workaround such approach?

• Mapping to a different view based on child type

  So i have a situation where i have common base type but i need to map to a different view based on the child type. It looks like i can use a generic mapping class to handle the inheritance http://geekswithblogs.net/nharrison/archive/2010/07/09/inheriting-a-class-map-in-fluent-nhibernate.aspx But how can i conditionally map to a different view based on the child type? I see an EntityType property but it says its obsolete and will be made private in the next version. As an example i have a base class of ContactInfo is standard between contact types but the values come from different places depending on the contact type, this I'll handle through the sql view.

When I am trying the same thing using Enumerable.Range(0, appSettings.Count).Select(i => { string Key = appSettings.Keys[i]; string Value = appSettings[i]; euFileDictionary.Add(Key, Value); }).ToDictionary<string,string>(); I am getting a compile time error The type arguments for method 'System.Linq.Enumerable.Select(System.Collections.Generic.IEnumerable, System.Func)' cannot be inferred from the usage. • c# project cannot find c++ .dll?

  I have a working c++ dll that works in one c# project that I am calling via the interop service. I have created another c# project and am trying to call the same .dll but keep getting a generic error message stating that the .dll cannot be found, both project are .net 2.0. What folder, and where do I specify in the project, should I put the .dll file in so that the project can find it? Think of it as a reminder for me... In the previous project I did not have a reference to it, I just had it in the /bin folder and doing the same thing for this project does not work. Thanks R.

There's more work involved (if you have lots of unit tests) but it will be more immediately clear where the problem lies. I'm using VS 2010 and the integrated testing tools but intend the question to be generic.

• Add 64 bit offset to a pointer

  In F#, there's the NativePtr module, but it seems to only support 32 bit offsets for its’ add/get/set functions, just like System.IntPtr does. Is there a way to add a 64 bit offset to a native pointer (nativeptr<'a) in F#? Of course I could convert all addresses to 64 bit integers, do normal integer operations and then convert the result again to nativeptr<'a, but this would cost additional add and imul instructions. I really want the AGUs to perform the address calculations. For instance, using unsafe in C# you could do something like void* ptr = Marshal.AllocHGlobal(...).ToPointer(); int64 offset = ...; T* newAddr = (T*)ptr + offset; // T has to be an unmanaged type Well actually you can't, because there is no "unmanaged" constraint for type parameters, but at least you can do general pointer arithmetic in a non-generic way. In F# we finally got the unmanaged constraint; but how do I do the pointer arithmetic?

I have been doing this so far for each table, but with more than 70 of these it becomes cumbersome and boring to do. Is there a way to generate the following code dynamically, And swap out the hardcoded tablenames with the values from the parameterlist?   I have a templated class Vector<class T, int N> Where T is the type of the components (double for example) and n the number of components (so N=3 for a 3D vector) Now I want to write a method like double findStepsize(Vector<double,2> v) {..} I want to do this also for three and higher dimensional vectors. Of course I could just introduce further methods for higher dimensions, but the methods would have a lot of redundant code, so I want a more generic solution. Is there a way to create a method which takes a templated class without further specializing it (in this case without specifying T or N)? Like double findStepsize(Vector<T,N> v) ?

Is it actually a normal application that just draws stuff, and starts after the kernel boot? And how does it draw it? Using OpenGL or is there something more generic?   Hey all, I've been trying to throw together a generic function that retrieves the absolute URL of an executing JavaScript file on a web page: http://gist.github.com/433486 It works great in almost all the browsers I've tested (Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Opera v10 at least, and IE 8). It seems to fail, however, in IE 6 and 7. The callback function gets executed, but the retrieved name is simple the URL to the main HTML page, not the JavaScript file. So all I'm really asking is if there's some other way of getting the URL of the current JavaScript file (which could be IE 6 and 7 specific)? Thanks in advance!

  For an assignment I have to write the code for a generic Hash Table. In an example Put method, there are two lines: int hash = key.hashCode(); // get the hashcode of the key int index = compress(hash); // compress it to an index I was of the understanding that the hashCode method used the key to return an index, and you would place the key/value pair in the array at that index. But here we "compress" the hash code to get the index. What does this method do? How does it "compress" the hash code? Is it necessary and/or preferred?
