• Question about rights for svn

  I have a web application written in asp.net mvc. I have in MyApp.Web assembly the list of views and and the content files(images, scripts, css, and so on). In MyApp.WebBase I have the rest of fonctionality(Controllers, domain(entities, repositories, services)). Now the question is the following: I want to give to third party html coder access only to MyApp.Web source code in order he to be able to compile the application locally and see the results. By other hand the developer team shoul have access to full source code. The problem is that in order the html coder to be able to compile the application locally he need in his project the references to the MyApp.WebBase.dll Can anyone help me? Thanks.

• Attempt to use DLL results in error.

  I am using a library (DLL) that uses the Oracle.DataAccess DLL to connect to the database. I am doing in in C# .NET framework 3.5 When I attempt to compile, the compilation takes place, but the executable throws this error message. Could not load file or assembly 'Oracle.DataAccess, Version=2.111.7.20, Culture= neutral, PublicKeyToken=89b483f429c47342' or one of its dependencies. An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format. Is there some way to get around this? What could be causing this to happen?

• Does NInject work in medium trust hosting?

  I'm doing shared hosting with GoDaddy and I developed a sample ASP.NET MVC app using Castle Windsor and unfortunately, it didn't work in a medium trust setting. Specifically, I got this error: "[SecurityException: That assembly does not allow partially trusted callers"... etc. GoDaddy is sadly not flexible in their trust policy. I'm not tied to Windsor and would like to try another one that will work under Medium Trust. I'd actually like to use NInject, but I've read people having mixed success. The only one I've read that works with no problem is Microsoft's Unity. My question is, does NInject work in medium trust? If not, what are my options?

  Hi, I'm trying to read my compiled C# code. this is my code: using(OleDbCommand insertCommand = new OleDbCommand("...", connection)) { // do super stuff } But! We all know that a using gets translated to this: { OleDbCommand insertCommand = new OleDbCommand("...", connection) try { //do super stuff } finally { if(insertCommand != null) ((IDisposable)insertCommand).Dispose(); } } (since OleDbCommand is a reference type). But when I decompile my assembly (compiled with .NET 2.0) I get this in Resharper: try { insertCommand = new OleDbCommand("", connection); Label_0017: try { //do super stuff } finally { Label_0111: if ((insertCommand == null) != null) { goto Label_0122; } insertCommand.Dispose(); Label_0122:; } I'm talking about this line: if ((insertCommand == null) != null).   Hi everyone: I just begin to study ARM assembly language, and am not clear about how to use MOV to transfer an immediate number into a register. From both the ARM reference manual and my textbook, it's said that range of immediate number following MOV instruction is 0-255. But when I test on my own PC in ADS 1.2 IDE, instruction MOV R2, #0xFFFFFFFF performs well. Isn't number 0xFFFFFFFF out of range according to the specification? Hope someone can give me a hand.   GCC documentation (http://gcc.gnu.org/onlinedocs/gcc/Function-Attributes.html) states in 6.29 Declaring Attributes of Functions "naked Use this attribute on the ARM, AVR, IP2K, RX and SPU ports to indicate that the specified function does not need prologue/epilogue sequences generated by the compiler. It is up to the programmer to provide these sequences. The only statements that can be safely included in naked functions are asm statements that do not have operands. All other statements, including declarations of local variables, if statements, and so forth, should be avoided. Naked functions should be used to implement the body of an assembly function, while allowing the compiler to construct the requisite function declaration for the assembler." Can I safely call functions using C syntax from naked functions, or only by using asm?

• Windsor Container: How to specify a public property should not be filled by the container?

  When Instantiating a class, Windsor by default treats all public properties of the class as optional dependencies and tries to satisfy them. In my case, this creates a rather complicated circular dependency which causes my application to hang. How can I explicitly tell Castle Windsor that it should not be trying to satisfy a public property? I assume there must be an attribute to that extent. I can't find it however so please let me know the appropriate namespace/assembly. If there is any way to do this without attributes (such as Xml Configuration or configuration via code) that would be preferable since the specific library where this is happening has to date not needed a dependency on castle.

  I am trying to build a C# project (downloaded code) in Visual Studio Express 2008. I get the error (my translation): The type or namespace name "Allegro" couldn't be found. for the line using Allegro; I know the 2D graphics library Allegro, of course, but I can't find much information on how to use it in C#. It is being used for visualization in the project I am trying to compile. I also get the warning This reference couldn't be resolved. The Universal assembly couldn't be found. I haven't been working with C# before and and I barely know Visual Studio Express. These are newbie mistakes - but I just need a fast solution for this problem. Could someone provide me with a short step-by-step solution?

  Hi everyone... i have a webservice that i want to test by typing the url in the address bar in the web browser localhost:1981/myProject/admin/autocomplete.asmx and when i do this it gives this compilation error CS0234: The type or namespace name 'Oledb' does not exist in the namespace 'System.Data' (are you missing an assembly reference?) i know this is because we added this in our web.config <add namespace="System.Data.Oledb"/> <add namespace ="System.Data"/> in the namespaces section..... when i call this web service through ajax it works but if i try to test it it gives this error. Is there any way to prevent this?

  I am totally confused by a simple Microsoft error message. When I run XSD.exe against an assembly that contains a custom ConfigurationSection (which in turn utilizes a custom ConfigurationElement and a custom ConfigurationElementCollection, as well as several ConfigurationProperties), I get the following error message: Error: There was an error processing 'Olbert.Entity.Utils.dll'. There was an error reflecting type 'Olbert.Entity.DatabaseConnection'. You must implement a default accessor on System.Configuration.ConfigurationLockCollection because it inherits from ICollection. Yet the class in question has a default accessor: public object this[int idx] { get { return null; } set { } } I realize the above doesn't do anything, but I don't need to access the element's properties by index. I'm just trying to work around the error message. So what's going on?

  I've faced to a problem with a PIC Micro controller. I have a micro-controller programmed by me long time ago and I lost the relevant source code and the schematic diagrams. Now I need to invert the value of a port. I can do this using some NOT gates but it is a big hassle to do so. or alternatively I will need to write the whole program back. I don't expect to see the code back in PIC C or MikroC. Having an understandable assembly code would be sufficient. So do anyone has any experience on a good HEX decompiler that I can use for this purpose? Any comments based on your experience? :)

  Hi, I'm interested in Cassandra and I'd like to test it at home in my Windows XP computer. I've found instructions for install an run Cassandra in Windows, and it's already up and running; I've also found the thrift executable for Windows and generate the C# interfaces, but... when I try to compile that generated code in Visual Studio I got : "The type or namespace name 'Thrift' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)", so I'm missing something else, but I cannot find what... What is it? Is it a dll? I've looked in the thrift code and I cannot find anything related to .net , so what am I missing? Thanks in advance. Regards.

• How can I build against Microsoft.Web.Administration (IIS 7.x) on a Windows 2003 build machine?

  Hi, I am writing a C# config app for (amongst other things) setting up websites. It's only required to support IIS 7.x (Windows 2008 / 2008 R2), and requiring the compatibility pack is a no-no, so I figured I'd just use the Microsoft.Web.Administration namespace. However, the only place I can find the assembly that contains this namespace (Microsoft.Web.Administration.dll) is from the IIS 7.x installation folder, and our main build machines are Windows 2003 and so cannot install IIS 7.x. One option is to mandate a 2008 build machine but we currently only have one so that's not ideal. We've already ruled out appcmd.exe. The other option is to make a package consisting of the dlls necessary to build against Microsoft.Web.Administration.dll. Has anyone tried that? Is there such a package already in existence, hidden somewhere on the MS download site? Thanks in advance.

• Can I mark an Email as "High Importance" for Outlook using System.Net.Mail?

  Part of the application I'm working on for my client involves sending emails for events. Sometimes these are highly important. My client, and most of my client's clients, use Outlook, which has the ability to mark a mail message as High Importance. Now, I know it is callous to assume that all end users will be using the same interface, sp I am not. But considering you can send email from Outlook as High Importance even if the target is not necessarily reading through Outlook, that means that there is basically some data stored... somehow... that lets Outlook know if a particular message was assigned as High Importance. That's my interpretation, at least. The application currently uses System.Net.Mail to send out emails, using System.Net.Mail.MailMessages for writing them and System.Net.Mail.SmtpClient to send them. Is it possible to set this "High Importance" setting with System.Net.Mail's abilities? If not, is there any assembly available which can configure this setting?

• ASP.NET MVC - separating large app

  I've been puzzled by what I consider a contradiction in terms: ASP.NET MVC claims to be furthering and supporting the "separation of concern" motto, which I find a great idea. However, it seems there's no way of separating out controllers, model or views into their own assembly, or separating areas into assemblies. With the fixed Controller, Model and View folders in your ASP.NET MVC, you're actually creating a huge hodge podge of things. Is that the separation of concerns, really?? Seems like quite the contrary to me. So what I'm wondering: how can I create an ASP.NET MVC solution that will either separate out controllers, the model, and the folders full of views, into separate assemblies? how can I put areas of ASP.NET MVC 2 into separate assemblies? or how else do you manage a large ASP.NET MVC app - which has several dozen or even over a hundred controllers, lots of model and viewmodel classes, and several hundred views?

• Reasons to learn MSIL

  Hi, Learning MSIL is fun and all that. Understanding what is going on "under the hood" can in many ways improve how you write your code performance-wise. However, the IL that is produced by the compiler is quite verbose and does not tell the whole story since JIT will optimize away a lot of the code. I, personally, have had good use of my very basic IL understanding when I've had to make a small fix in an assembly I do not have the source code for. But, I could as well have used Reflector to generate C# code. I would like to know if you've ever had good use of MSIL understanding and/or why you think it is worth learning it (except for the fun in it, of course). I'd also like to know if you think one should not learn it and why.

• AesCryptoServiceProvider not part of SymmetricAlgorithm?

  I have a quick little app that steps through the possible symmetric encryption methods. I get them with the following line: private static List<Type> GetAlgorithmTypes { get { return Assembly.GetAssembly(typeof(SymmetricAlgorithm)).GetTypes().Where( type => type.IsSubclassOf(typeof(SymmetricAlgorithm))).ToList(); } } As you can see when i run this, AesCryptoServiceProvider is not a member of this group, even though it inherits from AES, which does belong to SymmetricAlgorithm and shows up in my list. This wouldn't be so much of a problem, i can manually add the provider in the group if i have too, but then if i try to retrieve this type by its name: Type t = Type.GetType("System.Security.Cryptography.AesCryptoServiceProvider"); i get a null object for AesCryptoServiceProvider, but not for any of the other items in the group. This is really strange, and i'm wondering if anyone has any ideas. It's kinda making me need to use tripleDES because of this (since my machines are all running the FIPS compliance requirement).   I need some help - here are my requirements. 1: I should be able to modify the UML model without affecting the code, and then later apply the changes. This is because I need to print the changes, get them confirmed, and then develop them. 2: I should be able to reuse parts of the model. For example I would create one project which outputs A.dll assembly, and then another UML project would use the classes in the first to crate B.dll 3: Project stored as text so I can see changes in version control history. 4: Together is too expensive :-)

Can I download the DLL's without having to recompile with nant? (as I don't have this set up and don't know nant at all) Or is there another IOC that I can use that I can download and works in Medium Trust? Thanks

• ASP.net error message when using REST starter kit

  Hi all, I've written some code using the REST starter kit and it works fine on my development machine. However, when I upload it to our server the page gives me the following error message... CS1684: Warning as Error: Reference to type 'System.Runtime.Serialization.Json.DataContractJsonSerializer' claims it is defined in 'c:\WINNT\assembly\GAC_MSIL\System.ServiceModel.Web\3.5.0.0__31bf3856ad364e35\System.ServiceModel.Web.dll', but it could not be found I've removed code line by line and it appears that the following line of code is triggering the error... HttpContent newOrganizationContent = HttpContentExtensions.CreateXmlSerializable(newOrganizationXml); Really haven't got a clue how to fix it. I assumed it might be because it needs a newer version of the framework to run, but looking in IIS it says it's running version 2.0.50727 which I think is the lates version because it says that even when we're using framework 3.5 Very confused, any ideas? • How do people handle working with Code Names for their projects?

  Hi All, Recently we started using some code names for several different types of prototype applications all following a theme. This made things a little more fun and was a great idea. The problem is that Im not too sure how people deal with migrating a codebase from "codename" state into version 1.0 state which may have a proper name... not something that a client really shouldnt see :) We are using Visual Studio at the moment, and I can see that you can change the assembly name, but there are references to the namespaces, etc... that would really be a large change to make. Do people both changing things like namespaces before the v1.0 release?

• Silverlight MergedDictionaries and subclassing of Application

  We have subclassed the Silverlight Application class to add some additional functionality and then use this in multiple projects. The problem is that the Resources defined in App.xaml do not seem to get loaded. Has anyone else seen this and/or have some insight?
