  A big question I get asked when speaking to partners who are developing Oracle ADF, or Webcenter, Apps is how to make it look nice.. Some of the big SIs ask me, "Do we have any design patterns/guidelines we can use?". .. Alas website design is a very personal thing and each website will have different requirements and needs, however I am now pleased to say we've just launched "Oracle Fusion Applications Design Patterns" website.   The website is the result of many years of Oracle R&D into user interface design for Fusion applications and features a really cool web app which allows you to visualise the UI components in action. Although many of the design patterns are related to ADF , its worth noting that ADF took its lead from Oracle Fusion Applications User Interface needs - not the other way around, its just taken us a while to publish these. • How to Install OS without DVD and USB boot

  I just purchased a used Dell F1D 1U rack mount server and would like to install Ubuntu or ESXi with Virtual Disks or anything for that matter. I'v read that Dell's have built in DRAC so you can access it remotely. There are 3 ethernet plugs in the back but I dont know which one to use. In the BIOS it says I can configure Remote access on [com1] or [com2] not sure if that is ethernet 1 & 2. I also set it up so to use a static IP adress. Thats as far as I have gone. Not sure what to do next. I'v Tried to do a PXE server with TFTP but get stuck at Error "cant locate file" or something like that. Not even sure I want to go that route anymore because of all the hassel of editing files. All my computers are OSX or Linux and the only Windows I have is via VMWare. What steps to i do now?

  I have found urls to install ubuntu to a HD. But my current system has been upgraded and updated so often that it does not resemble anything on the web or on my drive disks. So giving my a url to how to install ubuntu will fail. Give me instead 'how to install my current Linux/Ubuntu based system (11.04) and all the upgrades to my external HD. Or alternately how to back up the OS into a bootable external HD. I am looking for either urls or a very complete explanation.

• Can't install mysql 5.1 on a windows machine because the last install left artifacts.

  After uninstalling mysql 5.1 (64 bit version) I cannot install the win32 version! Apparently the devs felt it neccasery to leave helpful artifacts behind? I have rebooted my machine but no effect.. • Windows file association for README, INSTALL, LICENSE and the like [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: How to set the default program for opening files without an extension in Windows? Many files originating in the UNIX world come without file extension. Popular examples include README, INSTALL, LICENSE. We know for a fact that these are text files. It is therefore a bit disappointing not to be able to just double-click them open in Explorer and see them in Notepad (actually, Notepad2 because of the UNIX line endings which silly Microsoft Notepad doesn't render correctly). Does anyone know of a way to create a file association for, say, README files without extension? This could then be replicated to cover the most frequently occurring file types, and then double-clicking them open would work. Update (Sort of in response to all your comments.) Thanks, folks, your comments and answers have helped me. @Indrek, yes, I was under the assumption that you could somehow create an association for just README or Makefile, and couldn't do so for files without extension. Turns out the contrary is true, and yes, that is a workaround that neatly solves the issue. Ultimately, I just want to be able to double-click to open a README or Makefile, that's all. @Sampo, the SendMe trick is also useful, although usability is not as great as a straight double-click. (I'm really lazy sometimes.) Turns out the following trick using ftype and ftype from an Administrator prompt does the double-click enabling job: assoc .=no_ext ftype no_ext=%SystemRoot%\system32\NOTEPAD.EXE %1 :: You can see it created some entries in the registry: reg query hkcr\no_ext /s reg query hkcr\. /s

  I am trying to install Predis, but keep getting a 500 Server errror. Here is what I have done. 1.) Have apache and php installed on Ubuntu Natty. 2.) Used the instructions on this page http://redis.io/download to download Redis. 3.) Ran the following example to confirm that Redis is working: $ src/redis-cli redis> set foo bar OK redis> get foo "bar" 4.) Have a local website at /home/user/Dropbox/documents/www/mywebsite.com/index.php and have confirmed that php is working. 5.) Downloaded the .zip version of Predis ( https://github.com/nrk/predis Version: v0.6.6-PHP5.2 ), and unzipped the contents to /home/user/Dropbox/documents/www/mywebsite.com/. So now Predis is here: /home/user/Dropbox/documents/www/mywebsite.com/nrk-predis-3bf1230/ 6.) Opened the /home/user/Dropbox/documents/www/mywebsite.com/index.php page. • Virtual Machine Network Services causes networking problems in Vista Enterprise 64 bit install

  I have a Quad-core/8GB Vista Enterprise 64-bit (SP2) installation on which I installed Virtual PC 2007. I have a problem that is opposite of all that I found searching around the Internet--everybody has problems making network connections from their guest VM. When Virtual Machine Network Services is enabled in the protocol stack for my network card across a reboot, it causes access problems to the network. The amount of time to login in using a domain credentialed account is upwards of 3 minutes, then after reaching the desktop the network and sharing center shows that my connection to the domain is unauthenticated. Disabling and re-enabling the Virtual Machine Network Services (uncheck in network properties/apply/recheck/apply) fixes the problem. And as long as I have the VMNS disabled when I shutdown the restart runs smoothly. I just have to remember to enable after login and disable before shutdown. I have un-installed and re-installed Virtual PC 2007 multiple times with restarts between. The install consists of the SP1 + a KB patch for guest resolution fix. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Some additional information... At one point during my hairpulling and teethgnashing with this, I tried to ping my primary DC and observed some weird responses: (Our DC is 10.10.10.25, my dynamic IP was 10.10.10.203) Reply from 10.10.10.203, Destination host unreachable. Request timed out. Reply from 10.10.10.25: ... This is not consistently repeatable, but thought it might strike a chord with someone.

• How to create a init.d script for openssh-server which was compiled and installed from source using configure + make + make install?

  I have installed openssh-server in my Ubuntu PC using apt-get install openssh-server. The version is 5.9. Now, I would like to compile and install openssh-server version 6.2 from source codes. I have successfully downloaded the source codes, and run the following commands: ./configure make make install I found that the new version of openssh-server was installed into /usr/local/sbin/. The old version of openssh-server is in /usr/sbin/. I found that the service script in /etc/init.d/ssh is still pointing to /usr/sbin/. And the old openssh-server (v5.9) is still running. How can I replace the old openssh-server with the new openssh-server that I have just compiled and installed? How can I create a init.d script to start and stop the new openssh-server that I've compiled from source manually? How to start the new openssh-server on boot? When I install openssh-server using apt-get install, the config files will be installed into /etc/ssh/. If I compile and install it from source, where is the config file? If I compiled openssh-server from source, but I install openssh-client package using apt-get install, will there be any config files conflict? Thanks.

• Can't Install Win2k8 On KVM - Classic 0x80070013 error

  I am trying to install Win2k8 Std as a KVM guest on Debian Squeeze. As you can see from these screen shots; No drives are detected (I have blanked out a 20GB image for testing) - screenshot1 I am using this driver CD: - screenshot2 I have signed the Win7 driver (I assume this was the most appropriate one?) - screenshot3 I can now see an unpartitioned drive - screenshot4 But I can't create a new partition on here, getting the error code 0x80070013 - screenshot5 I have had this error code before but only on a physical server. If I remember correctly it was complaining because the disks were partitioned as GPT (because it was a server that was being re-purposed) so repartitioning with an MS-DOS table fixed that. This is a blank disk image though. What is wrong here, and how can I correct this? Thank you. UPDATE I have booted the VM with a Gparted-Live disk and formatted this volume with an MS-DOS partitioning scheme, and a single 20GB NTFS file system. Now when I boot the Win2k8 CD, load my drivers, I get a different error. As you can see at the bottom of screenshot6 "Windows cannot be installed on this hard drive space. Windows must be installed to a partition formatted as NTFS". Clicking format produces the error (0x80004005) on the screen, so I think this is still a driver issue because Windows can see the drive but not interact with it properly. Is that insane thinking?

  JEOS stands for Just Enough Operating System.  It is  great environment for building virtual machines without all the clutter of a windowing system, games, office products, etc.  It is from Ubuntu and you install it using the Ubuntu server install, but rather than picking a standard install, press F4 and choose “Install a minimal system.” Note: The “Install a minimal virtual machine” is specific to VMWare and I plan to use VirtualBox. Be sure to include Open SSH in the install so that it installs sshd. *** Also, if you plan to install XE, you’ll need to modify the partitions to have a larger swap space (at least 1.5 G). *** Once the install is done, I find it useful to install a few other items. Update Ubuntu apt-get update Install some other tools apt-get openjdk-6-jre Yes, java will be included in any of the WebLogic installs, but I need this one if I want to do remote display (for config wizards, etc). apt-get gcc Some apps require to rebuild the kernel modules, so you’ll need a basic compiler. Install guest additions (Choose the VirtualBox Devices->Install Guest Additions…” option.  This sets up a /dev/cdrom or /dev/cdrom1.  You’ll need to manually mount this temporarily: sudo mount /dev/cdrom /mnt Then run the linux .bin file. Update nofile limits.  Most java apps fail with the standard ubuntu settings: edit /etc/security/limits.conf and add these lines at the end: *     soft nofile 65535 *     hard nofile 65535 root  soft nofile 65535 root  hard nofile 65535 These numbers are very high and I wouldn’t do this on a production system, but for this environment it is fin. To get rid of the annoying piix error on boot, add the following line to the /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf file blacklist i2c_piix4

I've been hearing a lot of talk surrounding the Appcelerator Titanium framework lately, but I'm not sure I fully understand it's purpose. As I understand it, it's a framework for building native mobile apps using web technologies. If I don't have any web dev skills, are there any ways that using Appcelerator Titanium would benefit me? • Windows 7 Install: No drives were found

  I was building a computer for my wife with an older SATA hard drive that I had lying around, and when attempting to do a new install of Windows 7 on it, the installer says: "No drives were found. Click Load Driver to provide a mass storage driver for installation." I ran the diskpart command: list volume, and it showed up as "Raw". So, I formatted it to NTFS and then it showed up as a healthy drive in diskpart. I also ran check disk on it with no errors. Windows 7 installer STILL can't find the drive. As far as BIOS settings, I have tried "Native IDE", AHCI, and Both AHCI/IDE mode (SATA slots 0-2 AHCI, 3-4 IDE). I tried all combinations... still "no drives were found". At this point, I'm just scratching my head. Using the installation dos window, I can see and talk to the drive just fine, but the installer just doesn't see it at all. I've even written folders and files to the drive, and it still "can't be seen". Any help would be great. Items of interest: Motherboard model: Gigabyte GA-A75M-UD2H - BIOS Version F5 (latest) Hard drive model: 80GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 ST380817AS (no other drives) Installing Windows 7 using a FAT32 formatted USB Drive, which I've used for other installs

• How to install Ubuntu 12.04.1 in EFI mode with Encrypted LVM?

  I'm trying to properly install Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS 64-bit PC (AMD64) with the alternate install CD ".iso" on a lenovo Thinkpad X220. Default Hard Disk (with a pre-installed version of Windows 7) has been replaced with a brand new SSD. The UEFI BIOS of the lenovo Thinkpad X220 is set to "UEFI Boot only" & "USB UEFI BIOS Support" is enabled (I'm using an external USB DVD reader to perform Ubuntu installation). The BIOS is a Phoenix SecureCore Tiano, BIOS version is 8DET56WW (1.26). The attempts below are made with the UEFI BIOS settings described above. Here's what I've tried so far: Boot on a live GParted CD Create a GPT partition table Create a FAT32 partition for UEFI System, set the partition to "EF00" type ("boot" flag) Leave remaining space unformated Boot on Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS 64-bit PC (AMD64) with alternate CD: Perform the install with network updates enabled Use manual partitioning FAT32 partition created with GParted is used as "EFI System partition" Remaining space is set to be used as "Physical volume for LVM" Then "Configure encrypted volumes" using the previous "Physical volume for LVM" as the encrypted container, passphrase is setup. "Configure the Logical Volume Manager" creating a volume Group using the encrypted container /dev/mapper/sda2_crypt Creation of the Logical Volumes "Create logical volume", choosing the previously created volume Group Assign a mount point and file system to the Logical volumes : LV-root for / LV-var for /var LV-usr for /usr LV-usr-local for /usr/local LV-swap for swap LV-home for /home NOTE: /tmp would be in RAM only using TMPFS Bootloader step: neither my ESP partition (/dev/sda1, /dev/sda or MBR) seems to be the right place for GRUB, I get the following message (X suffix is for demonstration only): unable to install grub in /dev/sdaX Executing 'grub-install /dev/sdaX' failed This is a fatal error. • Quicktime won't install on Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

  Hi! I am trying to install quicktime (actually just need iTunes..but then iTunes needs qt), but it fails. There seems to be a problem with the folder C:\Program Files(x86)\QuickTime\ - Quick Time wants to write the file QTTask.exe, but complains that it does not have permission to do so. Same thing happens with \PropertyPanels\PanelHelperBase.qpa I have tried deleting all Apple programs (in the order suggested in the support forum) and also tried to delete the temp folder. That did not work. I have tried to manually adjust the permissions of the QuickTime folder - no effect. I have run the installation file with admin rights and with different compatibility modes to no effect. I consider myself to be an experienced user - able to solve most problems - but now I am stuck. I need some input / fresh ideas on how to tackle the problem. This is very annoying as I cannot sync iPhone/iPad/iPod while iTunes is not running - due to the stupid (sorry) idea of only have your device linked to one library. Please help. Thanks!

• HP Laptop recognizes hard drive just long enough to install windows

  I have an HP laptop, DV6500 (CTO). It refused to boot one day, so I ran some diagnostics (a friend lent me "Hirens Boot Disk", "UBCD" and "PC DR 6"). Everything passed, except for the hdd. I replaced the HDD with a used drive of unknown condition. Installed windows with no problems. Installed the wireless driver, tried to reboot ... no luck. So I went to Best Buy, bought a brand new Western Digital 320gb HDD. Put it in the machine, installed windows (vista home premium). Installed the wired networking driver. Tried to reboot. No luck. Put the first hdd back in the machine, reinstalled windows. Started to install some drivers, went to reboot, and the machine won't come back to life. Put the second hdd in the machine, rinse wash and repeat. I've replaced the memory, even though it passed diagnostics. Problem exists with both brand new memory, and old memory. The BIOS recognizes the hard drive. The computer freezes directly after the bios splash screen, and there is no hard drive activity light. I've tried two linux live distros (gentoo and ubuntu). Neither would run on this laptop, but will on a different HP laptop. UBCD and Hirens Boot Disk both ran, as did PC Doctor 6 which refuses to test anything (gets stuck at "enumerating hard disks"). Is there anything else I can try?

• Ubuntu 12.10 64bit host reboots when trying to install any guest system using VirtualBox

  I am having a really nasty problem with VirtualBox as everytime I try to install any guest OS(using ISO file as CD for installation media), the installation starts normally but as soon as it is about to start either installing to virtual hard drive or loading(e.g. as LiveFS) it causes the host system to reboot abruptly. Config is as below: Host system: Ubuntu 12.10 64bit - Intel® Core i7-2640M CPU @ 2.80GHz × 4 Virtualbox version: 4.1.18_Ubuntu r78361 Guest OS systems tried: 32bit version of FreeBSD 9, Debian 6, Tails 0.14 VM setup Tried to have the minimal setup necessary just in case it would avoid for each system to make sure I'd avoid conflicts, but to no avail. I've tried different values and combinations of the below but the problem still persists: Shared Clipboard: Disabled Show in fullscreen/seamless: Disabled Remember runtime changes: DIsabled Base Memory: 2048 MB Chipset: PIIX3 IO APIC: Disabled EFI: Disabled Absolute Pointing device: Disabled Processor(s): 1 CPU PAE/NX: Disabled VT-x/AMD-V: Disabled Video Memory: 12 MB 3d/2d acceleration: Disabled Storage IDE COntroller: PIIX3 (same as chipset instead of PIIX4) Use host I/O cache: No Audio: disabled Network adapter: NAT USB controller: disabled No shared folder Also another sideeffect of the reboot is that it appears that it does not log any information in the error log files; not making things any easier. Please help.

• Migrating JBoss installation and install it on a PHP server

  I'm configuring a new dedicated server that is going to run 3 sites, 2 of then are migrating from a old server. Each site have it's own domain and dedicated ip. 2 of this sites are already up and running on php (one of then use cakePHP), the third site is a migration from an old server and it runs on JBoss. 1) Is it possible to have both Jboss and php running on the same Apache instance, or would I have to install a new one? 2) Can I just move the old JBoss server directory to the new server and start the server with the shell script? From what I red here JBoss is distributed as a zip/tgz file with the server structure, so moving it from the old server to the new one should be the same. I want to do this because the old server is already configured, and it have 2 JBoss instances. I didn't develop this site and I don't have experience with JBoss. I have some documentation of the site, but it is not much, mostly server structure and the technology they used. The new server runs on CentOS with CPanel, I have full root access to the server. This question is similar to this one How can I run JBoss Application Server and Apache on the same server? but there he didn't have a dedicated IP for each domain.

  Hi I've freshly installed Ubuntu 10.4 on a new computer. I'm trying to install on it application I need (my old computer is broken and I have to send it to the service). I've managed to install texlive and than I can't install anything else.   I would like to install Ubuntu on my iMac 10,1 (21.5 inch display). I would prefer to instal Natty Narwhal, but would surely settle for Maverick Meerkat (which I have a install dvd of). I have an install of OS X Snow Leopard AND a Bootcamp Partition of Windows 7. I would like to keep all these partitions and setup a triple boot system. If it can work, I'm also wondering if it'd be safe to install all updates from the update manager once it's installed. Thank you in advance. :)
