• PHP controllable menubar position

  I'm an admin for a page and I want to give certain users dynamic control of the menubar layout. The ideal would be a page with a list with menu items and arrows pointing up and down with each item and when you click them the item is reordered. I have a pretty basic idea of how I can do it but I would like some suggestions. The items are stored in MySQL and I only need help figuring out how the items should be ordered or numbered and how to re-order them. This probably needs some javascript trickery and I'm not familiar with JS.

With passion for automation and elegancy, but limited knowledge/knowhow, im stuck with "my hands in my hair" as we Dutch say, for my current menu system works perfectly, but is a pain in the a*s to update! So, i would appreciate it greatly, if you can suggest how to automate this in php: how to let the php generate the html menu code basing on a flat menu input file with TABS indented. OLD SITUATION <ul> <!-- about 100 of these <li>....</li> lines --> <li><a href="carrot.php"><p class="mnu" style="background-position:0 -820px"><? echo __("carrot juice") ?></p></a></li> <!-- lots of data, with only little bit thats really the menu itself--> </ul a javascript file reads a ul/li structure as input to build menu of format in that ul/li, the items with a hyperlink and sprite-bg position represent webpages, (inside LI) while items without hyperlink and sprite-bg are just headers of that menusection, (inside H6) to highlight the current page in the menu, the javascript menumaker uses an id number. this number corresponds to the consequtive li that is a webpage, skips h6 headers correctly. these h6 headers are only there for when importing sections of the same menu as submenu. non-li headers are not shown in menu, nore counted by the javascript menu for their ID. to know which page should be shown, i have to count from ID 0, the li items till finding the current webpage in the li structure and then manually put it in each webpage! BUT: changing an item in li order, means stupidly re-counting their entire li again! each webpage has an icon (= sprite bg-position numer), which is also used in the webpage. INTENDED RESULT I dream of, once setting what the current webpage is (e.g carrot.php) the menu system automatically "finds" and "counts" the li's and returns the id nr (for proper highlight of main menu); generates the entire menu html, and depending on which headings are set for submenu, (e.g. meals, drinks) generates those submenu (entire section below each given header); ginally adds h5 highlight inside the li of that submenu item. For the menu, i wish an easily readable, simple plain txt menu that is indented with tabs, (each tab is one depth for example) and further tabs follow for url and sprite position of icon. • How to roll my own index in c#?

  I need a faster way to create an index file. The application generates pairs of items to be indexed. I currently add each pair as it is generated to a sorted dictionary and then write it out to a disk file. This works well until the number of items added exceeds one million, at which time it slows to the point that is unacceptable. There can be as many as three million data items to be indexed. I prefer to avoid a database because I do not want to significantly increase the size of the deployment package, which is now less than one-half of one megabyte. I tried Access but it is even slower than the sorted dictionary -if it had an efficient bulk load utility then that might work, but I do not find such a tool for Access. Is there a better way to roll my own index?

• Switching Javascript Function states

  Dear experts, I would like to implement a API of Javascript that sort of resemble a light switch. For instance, there are two buttons on the actual HTML page act as the UI. Both of the buttons have event handlers that invokes a different function. Each function have codes that act like a state, for instance. button1.onclick=function (){ $("div").click( //code effects 2 ) } button2.onclick=function (){ $("div").click( //Code effects 2 ) } I the code works fine on the surface but the 2 state functions overlap. the effects is going to take place for the rest of the way until the next reload of the document. Basically what I want to achieve is that when 1 button is clicked, it will switch "OFF" the state of function invoked by the other button and vice versa. Thus, the effects achieved are unique are not overlapped. Is there anyway to achieve this or could any experts point me to the right direction. Thanks in advance.

  hi, so i have a table lets say call it "tbl.items" and there is a column "title" in "tbl.items" i want to loop through each row and for each "title" in "tbl.items" i want to do following: the column has the datatype nvarchar(max) and contains a string... filter the string to remove words like in,out, where etc (stopwords) compare the rest of the string to a predefined list and if there is a match perform some action which involves inserting data in other tables as well.. the problem is im ignotent when it comes to writing T-sql scripts, plz help and guide me how can i achieve this? whether it can be achieved by writing a sql script?? or i have to develope a console application in c# or anyother language?? im using mssql server 2008 thanks in advance

• UIScrollView - with paging enabled, can I "change" the page width?

  What's the simplest way to have a scroll view (with pagingEnabled set to YES) have a page width set to something other than the scroll view's bounds? Let me give an example. Suppose I have a scroll view with 10 items, each 150 pixels wide, and my scroll view is 300 pixels wide. If I start with views 1 and 2 visible and scroll horizontally to the right, I want the next "page" to show items 2 and 3. If I scroll one more page to the right, I would see items 3 and 4. Has anyone done this? If not, what strategy would you use?

So the third List should have 1 instance of Item 1, since 'items' had 2 instances. Any ideas of how this can be done through Linq?

• ASP.NET DropDownList Replacement

  Currently, I'm populating a drop down list when a file is created in a configurable folder. if (!downloadRspDropDown.Items.Contains(new ListItem(txt, fileData.FullName)) Then, I add the file and remove "No Responses Available". However, if the same file is resubmitted (i.e., the file name is the same but the timestamp is different), then I want to remove the older entry and replace it with a new entry in the drop down list. I have the filename, so I go into the "else" block from the line of code above. From there, I'm checking to see if I have the same filename and a different creation time. if (downloadRspDropDown.Items.Contains(new ListItem(txt, fileData.FullName) && downloadRspDropDown.Items.Contains(new ListItem(txt, fileData.CreationTime) From here, I want to find the position, remove it, and add the new text. This approach isn't working. Can anyone offer an alternate approach?

• Ajax DragPanelExtender drag an item from one panel to another

  I have a panel called "ItemPot" and several panels called "ItemBank1", "ItemBank2" etc. Currently I have dynamically added 5 items to the pot and given each one a DragPanelExtender so that those items can be moved around within the panel, however what I wan't to be able to do is to move those items into the banks and then save there new parent ID ("itembank1") to the database using C#. Does anyone know of an easy way of doing that? I have looked around the internet and I have found loads of ways of doing similar things using JQuery or Mootools but I would rather not have to use Javascript if possible, I know that might be wishful thinking lol.

  I am using System.Linq.Dynamic to do custom where clauses from an ajax call in .Net MVC 1.0. It works fine for strings, int etc but not for DateTime, I get the exception cannot compare String to DateTime. The very simple test code is items = items.Where(string.Format(@" {0} {1}{2}{1} ", searchField, delimiter, searchString)); Where searchField will be for example start_date and the data type is DateTime, delimiter is " (tried with nothing as well) and searchString will be 01-Jan-2009 (tried with 01/01/2009 as well) and items is an IQueryable from LinqToSql. Is there a way of specifying the data type in a dynamic where, or is there a better approach. It is currently already using some reflection to work out what type of delimiter is required.

  I am looking into thrift for serialization of data. But Document says cyclic structs - Structs can only contain structs that have been declared before it. A struct also cannot contain itself One of our requirement is Struct A List of Child items Items(Items are Struct A ) So reading requirement i can't have Struct within itself at any level? can i have it in cyclic model as i have it above. Struct is not member of Struct directly but it has some other member and it contains struct. Their document is not so well descriptive. Is it possible in Thrift? Does protobuf supports it?

• Why must I rewind IteratorIterator

I'm curious why it requires that rewind() be called. I imagine there's good reason for it, but I would have expected it to simply start iteration at whatever state it's inner iterator is in, and leave it as an option to rewind before beginning iteration. calling next() also seems to put it in a "valid" state(although it advances to the next position, suggesting it was previously at the first position). $arrayIter = new ArrayIterator(array(1,2)); $iterIter = new IteratorIterator($arrayIter); $iterIter->next(); var_dump($iterIter->valid()); Again, I'm curious why I need to call rewind(), despite the inner iterator being in a valid state.

• Dynamically render partial templates using mustache

  Is there a way to dynamically inject partial templates (and have it work the same way in both Ruby & Javascript)? Basically, I'm trying to render different types of objects in a list. The best I can come up with is this: <div class="items"> {{#items}} <div class="item"> {{#is_message}} {{< message}} {{/is_message}} {{^is_message}} {{#is_picture}} {{< picture}} {{/is_picture}} {{^is_picture}} {{/is_picture}} {{/is_message}} </div> {{/items}} </div> For obvious reasons, I'm not super-psyched about this approach. Is there a better way? Also note that the different types of models for the views can have non-similar fields. I suppose I could always go to the lowest common denominator and have the data hash contain the html, however I would rather use the mustache templates.

• iPhone tableview: titleForHeaderInSection derived from array

  I have a tableview that is populated by an array. Currently the tableview has no grouping. What I would like to do is check a value of each array object, such as State, and group all the CA items together, all the OR items together, etc. Then, assign those groups a title. The array is dynamic, and will grow and get new values in the future, so I can't hardcode titles, I would like these to somehow come from my initial array. Currently I am using the following, but it does not take into account sorting of the array, or if I removed all of the items in the array that have to do with California. - (NSString *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView titleForHeaderInSection:(NSInteger)section { if (section == 0) { return @"California"; } else if (section == 1) { return @"Washington"; } else { return @"Utah"; } }//end tableView So, I am confusing myself as to how this would be possible.   Hi, Im loading an entity 'Member' from its id in route data. [ListItemsForMembershipType(true)] public ActionResult Edit(Member someMember) {...} The attribute on the action loads the membership type list items for a dropdown box and sticks it in viewdata. This is fine for add forms, and search forms (it gets all active items) but I need the attribute to execute BASED ON THE VALUE someMember.MembershipTypeId, because its current value must always be present when loading the item (i.e. all active items, plus the one from the loaded record). So the question is, what is the standard pattern for this? How can my attribute accept the value or should I be loading the viewdata for the drop down in a controller supertype or during model binding or something else? It is in an attribute now because the code to set the viewdata would otherwise be duplicated in each usage in each action.

If the user checks some of the sub-items, then a blue square appears inside the main items checkbox. It should look something like this. How do I do that in Java 1.6? Can I use swing or any external library? I would like to choose the easiest and the fastest way to achieve this? My aim is to create only 1 level of nesting.

• How to get WordPress Twenty Ten theme sub-menus to expand to their contents (CSS)?

  Hope this isn't "too" niche, because the CSS involved likely applies in other spots. I'm working with the new Twenty Ten theme in WordPress 3 beta/nightlies, and I'd really like it if the drop-down sub-menus (Pages/custom menus) would expand to the width of whatever is in them, rather than wrap the items at 130px. Here's an example page set up that contains nothing but the relevant HTML and the Twenty Ten theme CSS file: http://almostexciting.com/wordpress-twentyten-menu.html I've tried changing the "width" for the link items to a "min-width", which doesn't work - nor does completely removing it. I can't seem to locate any other styles that are constricting the width of the menu items, so I'm a bit desperate for help. Been tearing this thing up in Firebug for too long now.

• Rails Load Data into Application every time a New User is Created

  Hi I am trying to figure out the "right" way to do this. In my application every time I create a new user I want to have specific data loaded into an associated table. The associated table is a different preset lists. So a User has many lists and those lists have many items. Some of those Items I want to be loaded when the User is created. I really don't know how to go about doing this but I am guessing something like: create User after_create: create Lists (need already existing data for the list names) after_create List then populate Items table with existing data for these Lists. Should I be using seed data for this? Is that alright for production and if so how exactly would I go about doing that. Any guidance or other recommendations are greatly appreciated.

  Here goes: T1 [id] [desc] 1 lovely 2 ugly 3 slender T2 [id] [userid] [vote] 1 1 3 1 2 5 1 3 2 2 1 1 2 2 4 2 3 4 In one query (if possible) I'd like to return: T1.id, T1.desc, AVG(T2.vote), T2.vote (for user viewing the page) I can get the first 3 items with: SELECT T1.id, T1.desc, AVG(T2.vote) FROM T1 LEFT JOIN T2 ON T1.id=T2.id GROUP BY T1.id and I can get the first, second, and fourth items with: SELECT T1.id, T1.desc, T2.vote FROM T1 LEFT JOIN T2 ON T1.id=T2.id WHERE T2.userid='1' GROUP BY T1.id but I'm at a loss as to how to get all four items in one query. I tried inserting a select as the fourth term: SELECT T1.id, T1.desc, AVG(T2.vote), (SELECT T2.vote FROM T2 WHERE T2.userid='1') AS userVote etc etc but I get an error that the select returns more than one row... Help? My reason for wanting to do this in one query instead of two is that I want to be able to sort the data within MySQL rather than one it's been split into a number of arrays.

• Structs inside #define in C++

  Being pretty new to C++, I don't quite understand some instructions I encounter such as: #ifndef BOT_H_ #define BOT_H_ #include "State.h" /* This struct represents your bot in the game of Ants */ struct Bot { State state; Bot(); void playGame(); //plays a single game of Ants void makeMoves(); //makes moves for a single turn void endTurn(); //indicates to the engine that it has made its moves }; #endif //BOT_H_ What I don't understand is the "#ifndef BOT_H_" and the "#define -- #endif" From what I gather, it defines a constant BOT_H_ if it's not already defined when the precompiler looks at it. I don't actually get how the struct inside it is a constant and how it is going to let me access the functions inside it. I also don't see why we're doing it this way? I used C++ a while back and I wasn't using .h files, so it might be something easy I'm missing.
