  • Licensing for the undecided

    - by Jasper
    I am creating a game in C++. Now I am not sure on how I will distribute it yet - though I am pretty sure that I won't be asking money for it. And I am looking into a licensing and I wondered if there is a license that is suited for the undecided like me. My current releases (which are really really early versions of the game, with far from full functionality) are executable only. However, I am actually thinking that I might release the source on an open source license. For now, I am the only contributor, so that would be no problem as I only need my own permission to move to a less restrictive license. However, when I allow other people to contribute, I would need all their permissions to do so (right?). So I was wondering if there is a license that let's me distribute the game executable only for now, but will let me switch to a less restrictive license if I want. Basically I need a license in which contributors give permission to switch to a less restrictive license up front. Does anybody know of license (or other construction) that would allow me to do so?

  • Copying web part pages within SharePoint

    - by Jasper
    Hi, I'm trying to copy some web part pages (aspx) from one library into another. Reason is that I've got sites which are created dynamiccally. I also want to add some content (based on several rules) to those sites, which include aspx web part pages. The deployment works fine, but the web part pages are empty in the target site. As I've read in several blog posts, this has something to do with the ghosting of the files. Is there a way to literally copy all of the content in the ASPX to the site? The webparts aren't site or feature dependant, so the pages should work on every site. When I copy the pages with SPD, it works fine, but I don't understand how SPD does this.

  • How to paste text and variables into a logical expression in R?

    - by Jasper
    I want to paste variables in the logical expression that I am using to subset data, but the subset function does not see them as column names when pasted (either with ot without quotes). I have a dataframe with columns named col1, col2 etc. I want to subset for the rows in which colx < 0.05 This DOES work: subsetdata<-subset(dataframe, col1<0.05) subsetdata<-subset(dataframe, col2<0.05) This does NOT work: for (k in 1:2){ subsetdata<-subset(dataframe, paste("col",k,sep="")<0.05) } for (k in 1:2){ subsetdata<-subset(dataframe, noquote(paste("col",k,sep=""))<0.05) } I can't find the answer; any suggestions?

  • C++ Array of pointers: delete or delete []?

    - by Jasper
    Cosider the following code: class Foo { Monster* monsters[6]; Foo() { for (int i = 0; i < 6; i++) { monsters[i] = new Monster(); } } virtual ~Foo(); } What is the correct destructor? this: Foo::~Foo() { delete [] monsters; } or this: Foo::~Foo() { for (int i = 0; i < 6; i++) { delete monsters[i]; } } I currently have the uppermost constructor and everything is working okey, but of course I cannot see if it happens to be leaking... Personally, I think the second version is much more logical considering what I am doing. Anyway, what is the "proper" way to do this?

  • How to create a changelog?

    - by Jasper Kennis
    I'm building a site that shows changes in deals that we have in our db. For example, if a deals status changes from pending to win, I want to show it, and if the value goes up or down, I want to show it, that kind of thing. Also, if you open the overview page, I want it to show the history of changes. So I need some kind of change logging, to be able to look in the past. How do I do this? It is a rails project, but I think that's irrelevant.

  • dynamic inheritance without touching classes

    - by Jasper
    I feel like the answer to this question is really simple, but I really am having trouble finding it. So here goes: Suppose you have the following classes: class Base; class Child : public Base; class Displayer { public: Displayer(Base* element); Displayer(Child* element); } Additionally, I have a Base* object which might point to either an instance of the class Base or an instance of the class Child. Now I want to create a Displayer based on the element pointed to by object, however, I want to pick the right version of the constructor. As I currently have it, this would accomplish just that (I am being a bit fuzzy with my C++ here, but I think this the clearest way) object->createDisplayer(); virtual void Base::createDisplayer() { new Displayer(this); } virtual void Child::createDisplayer() { new Displayer(this); } This works, however, there is a problem with this: Base and Child are part of the application system, while Displayer is part of the GUI system. I want to build the GUI system independently of the Application system, so that it is easy to replace the GUI. This means that Base and Child should not know about Displayer. However, I do not know how I can achieve this without letting the Application classes know about the GUI. Am I missing something very obvious or am I trying something that is not possible?

  • $(selector).text() equivalent in c# (Revised)

    - by Ian Jasper Bardoquillo
    Hi, I am trying check if the inner html of the element is empty but I wanted to do the validation on the server side, I'm treating the html as a string. Here is my code public string HasContent(string htmlString){ // this is the expected value of the htmlString // <span class="spanArea"> // <STYLE>.ExternalClass234B6D3CB6ED46EEB13945B1427AA47{;}</STYLE> // </span> // From this jquery code--------------> // if($('.spanArea').text().length>0){ // // } // <------------------ // I wanted to convert the jquery statement above into c# code. /// c# code goes here return htmlSTring; } using this line $('.spanArea').text() // what is the equivalent of this line in c# I will know if the .spanArea does really have something to display in the ui or not. I wanted to do the checking on the server side. No need to worry about how to I managed to access the DOM I have already taken cared of it. Consider the htmlString as the Html string. My question is if there is any equivalent for this jquery line in C#? Thanks in advance! :)

  • How to add or remove a value inside a table cell on selection / de-selection of checkbox of that row, trying to submit the value via Jquery?

    - by Raul
    Here is the table: <%= form_tag '', :id => "costs" do %> <table class="table table-bordered" id="service_cost"> <% @services.each do |service| %> <tbody> <tr> <td><%= check_box_tag :open_service, {}, false, :class => 'checkable' %></td> <td><%= service.phone %></td> <td><%= service.internet %></td> <td></td> <td></td> <td></td> <td></td> <td></td> <td><%= service.house_keeping %> </td> <td>0.0 </td> <td><%= service.laundry %></td> <td><%= text_field_tag "service_cost", service.total, :class => "input-small" %></td> </tr> <% end %> when the form gets submitted, the javascript gets into action: $("#costs").submit(function(){ formData=$("#costs").serializeArray(); processFormData(formData) return false; }); This ensures form submission on selecting the checkbox: $('.checkable').live('change', function() { $(this).parents('form:first').submit(); }); But, what I am looking for is adding or removing a cell value based on checkbox selection/de-selection and submitting it, kindly suggest a way to do it.

    Dernière minute : Le co-créateur du XML quitte Oracle pour Google, Tim Bray travaillera sur Android Tim Bray, qui avait été à l'origine (en partie) de l'écriture du XML, vient d'annoncer il y a quelques heures sur son blog qu'il quittait Sun/Oracle pour rejoindre Google à un poste d'"Advocate Developper" centré sur Android. Il prédit que cela sera très excitant et semble ravi de ce changement. Il faut dire que ces derniers mois, ses relations avec son précédent employeur s'étaient quelque peu détériorées, notamment lorsqu'on lui avait fait censurer son blog à propos de la fusion Sun/Oracle. Il a donc cherché à quitter ses fonctions et a trouvé refuge chez Google, qui a carrément crée un poste juste p...

  • JavaOne Afterglow by Simon Ritter

    - by JuergenKress
    Last week was the eighteenth JavaOne conference and I thought it would be a good idea to write up my thoughts about how things went. Firstly thanks to Yoshio Terada for the photos, I didn't bother bringing a camera with me so it's good to have some pictures to add to the words. Things kicked off full-throttle on Sunday.  We had the Java Champions and JUG leaders breakfast, which was a great way to meet up with a lot of familiar faces and start talking all things Java.  At midday the show really started with the Strategy and Technical Keynotes.  This was always going to be tougher job than some years because there was no big shiny ball to reveal to the audience.  With the Java EE 7 spec being finalised a few months ago and Java SE 8, Java ME 8 and JDK8 not due until the start of next year there was not going to be any big announcement.  I thought both keynotes worked really well each focusing on the things most important to Java developers: Strategy One of the things that is becoming more and more prominent in many companies marketing is the Internet of Things (IoT).  We've moved from the conventional desktop/laptop environment to much more mobile connected computing with smart phones and tablets.  The next wave of the internet is not just billions of people connected, but 10s or 100s of billions of devices connected to the network, all generating data and providing much more precise control of almost any process you can imagine.  This ties into the ideas of Big Data and Cloud Computing, but implementation is certainly not without its challenges.  As Peter Utzschneider explained it's about three Vs: Volume, Velocity and Value.  All these devices will create huge volumes of data at very high speed; to avoid being overloaded these devices will need some sort of processing capabilities that can filter the useful data from the redundant.  The raw data then needs to be turned into useful information that has value.  To make this happen will require applications on devices, at gateways and on the back-end servers, all very tightly integrated.  This is where Java plays a pivotal role, write once, run everywhere becomes essential, having nine million developers fluent in the language makes it the defacto lingua franca of IoT.  There will be lots more information on how this will become a reality, so watch this space. Technical How do we make the IoT a reality, technically?  Using the game of chess Mark Reinhold, with the help of people like John Ceccarelli, Jasper Potts and Richard Bair, showed what you could do.  Using Java EE on the back end, Java SE and JavaFX on the desktop and Java ME Embedded and JavaFX on devices they showed a complete end-to-end demo. This was really impressive, using 3D features from JavaFX 8 (that's included with JDK8) to make a 3D animated Duke chess board.  Jasper also unveiled the "DukePad" a home made tablet using a Raspberry Pi, touch screen and accelerometer. Although the Raspberry Pi doesn't have earth shattering CPU performance (about the same level as a mid 1990s Pentium), it does have really quite good GPU performance so the GUI works really well.  The plans are all open sourced and available here.  One small, but very significant announcement was that Java SE will now be included with the NOOB and Raspbian Linux distros provided by the Raspberry Pi foundation (these can be found here).  No more hassle having to download and install the JDK after you've flashed your SD card OS image.  The finale was the Raspberry Pi powered chess playing robot.  Really very, very cool.  I talked to Jasper about this and he told me each of the chess pieces had been 3D printed and then he had to use acetone to give them a glossy finish (not sure what his wife thought of him spending hours in the kitchen in a gas mask!)  The way the robot arm worked was very impressive as it did not have any positioning data (like a potentiometer connected to each motor), but relied purely on carefully calibrated timings to get the arm to the right place.  Having done things like this myself in the past I know how easy it is to find a small error gets magnified into very big mistakes. Here's some pictures from the keynote: The "Dukepad" architecture Nice clear perspex case so you can see the innards. The very nice 3D chess set.  Maya's obviously a great tool. • AJAX 4 no ASP.NET 4 Web Application

    - by renatohaddad
