  • slow mysql count because of subselect

    - by frgt10
    how to make this select statement more faster? the first left join with the subselect is making it slower... mysql> SELECT COUNT(DISTINCT w1.id) AS AMOUNT FROM tblWerbemittel w1 JOIN tblVorgang v1 ON w1.object_group = v1.werbemittel_id INNER JOIN ( SELECT wmax.object_group, MAX( wmax.object_revision ) wmaxobjrev FROM tblWerbemittel wmax GROUP BY wmax.object_group ) AS wmaxselect ON w1.object_group = wmaxselect.object_group AND w1.object_revision = wmaxselect.wmaxobjrev LEFT JOIN ( SELECT vmax.object_group, MAX( vmax.object_revision ) vmaxobjrev FROM tblVorgang vmax GROUP BY vmax.object_group ) AS vmaxselect ON v1.object_group = vmaxselect.object_group AND v1.object_revision = vmaxselect.vmaxobjrev LEFT JOIN tblWerbemittel_has_tblAngebot wha ON wha.werbemittel_id = w1.object_group LEFT JOIN tblAngebot ta ON ta.id = wha.angebot_id LEFT JOIN tblLieferanten tl ON tl.id = ta.lieferant_id AND wha.zuschlag = (SELECT MAX(zuschlag) FROM tblWerbemittel_has_tblAngebot WHERE werbemittel_id = w1.object_group) WHERE w1.flags =0 AND v1.flags=0; +--------+ | AMOUNT | +--------+ | 1982 | +--------+ 1 row in set (1.30 sec) Some indexes has been already set and as EXPLAIN shows they were used. +----+--------------------+-------------------------------+--------+----------------------------------------+----------------------+---------+-----------------------------------------------+------+----------------------------------------------+ | id | select_type | table | type | possible_keys | key | key_len | ref | rows | Extra | +----+--------------------+-------------------------------+--------+----------------------------------------+----------------------+---------+-----------------------------------------------+------+----------------------------------------------+ | 1 | PRIMARY | <derived2> | ALL | NULL | NULL | NULL | NULL | 2072 | | | 1 | PRIMARY | v1 | ref | werbemittel_group,werbemittel_id_index | werbemittel_group | 4 | wmaxselect.object_group | 2 | Using where | | 1 | PRIMARY | <derived3> | ALL | NULL | NULL | NULL | NULL | 3376 | | | 1 | PRIMARY | w1 | eq_ref | object_revision,or_og_index | object_revision | 8 | wmaxselect.wmaxobjrev,wmaxselect.object_group | 1 | Using where | | 1 | PRIMARY | wha | ref | PRIMARY,werbemittel_id_index | werbemittel_id_index | 4 | dpd.w1.object_group | 1 | | | 1 | PRIMARY | ta | eq_ref | PRIMARY | PRIMARY | 4 | dpd.wha.angebot_id | 1 | | | 1 | PRIMARY | tl | eq_ref | PRIMARY | PRIMARY | 4 | dpd.ta.lieferant_id | 1 | Using index | | 4 | DEPENDENT SUBQUERY | tblWerbemittel_has_tblAngebot | ref | PRIMARY,werbemittel_id_index | werbemittel_id_index | 4 | dpd.w1.object_group | 1 | | | 3 | DERIVED | vmax | index | NULL | object_revision_uq | 8 | NULL | 4668 | Using index; Using temporary; Using filesort | | 2 | DERIVED | wmax | range | NULL | or_og_index | 4 | NULL | 2168 | Using index for group-by | +----+--------------------+-------------------------------+--------+----------------------------------------+----------------------+---------+-----------------------------------------------+------+----------------------------------------------+ 10 rows in set (0.01 sec) The main problem while the statement above takes about 2 seconds seems to be the subselect where no index can be used.   • MySQL + Joomla + remote c# access

    - by Jimmy
    Hello, I work on a Joomla web site, installed on a MySQL database and running on IIS7. It's all working fine. I now need to add functionality that lets (Joomla-)registered users change some configuration data. Though I haven't done this yet, it looks straightforward enough to do with Joomla. The data is private so all external access will be done through HTTPS. I also need an existing c# program, running on another machine, to read that configuration data. Sure enough, this data access needs to be as fast as possible. The data will be small (and filtered by query), but the latency should be kept to a minimum. A short-term, client-side cache (less than a minute, in case a user updates his configuration data) seems like a good idea. I have done practically zero database/asp programming so far, so what's the best way of doing that last step? Should the c# program access the database 'directly' (using what? LINQ?) or setup some sort of Facade (SOAP?) service? If a service should be used, should it be done through Joomla or with ASP on IIS? Thanks

  • Problem with mysql query in paging

    - by jasmine
    I have a very simple paging and mysql query. Im not sure that my query is right: $perPage =4; $page= (isset($GET['page']) && is_numeric($GET['page'])) ? $_GET['page'] : 1; $start = ($page * $perPage ) - $perPage ; if (is_numeric($_GET['cID'])){$cid = $_GET['cID'];} $totalCount = sprintf("SELECT COUNT(*) as 'Total' FROM content WHERE catID = %d", $cid ) ; $count = mysql_query($totalCount); $rowCount = mysql_fetch_array($count); $sql = sprintf("SELECT id, title, abstract, content_image FROM content WHERE catID = %d ORDER BY id DESC LIMIT %d, %d", $cid, $start, $perPage ); $query = mysql_query($sql) or die(mysql_error()); while($row = mysql_fetch_array($query)){ echo $row['id'].' : '. $row['title'] .'<br>'; } with /categories.php?cID=1&page=2 and /categories.php?cID=1&page=1 The output is: 95 : titlev 94 : titlex 93 : titlec 92 : titleb and not changed. What is wrong in my query? Thanks in advance

  • Determining Best Table Structure for MySQL Performance

    - by Joe Majewski
    I'm working on a browser-based RPG for one of my websites, and right now I'm trying to determine the best way to organize my SQL tables for performance and maintenance. Here's my question: Does the number of columns in an SQL table affect the speed in which it can be queried? I am not a newbie when it comes to PHP or MySQL. I used to develop things with the common goal of getting them to work, but I've recently advanced to the stage where a functional program is not good enough unless it's fast and reliable. Anyways, right now I have a members table that has around 15 columns. It contains information such as the player's username, password, email, logins, page views, etcetera. It doesn't contain any information on the player's progress in the game, however. If I added columns for things such as army size, gold, turns, and whatnot, then it could easily rise to around 40 or 50 total columns. Oh, and my database structure IS normalized. Will a table with 50 columns that gets constantly queried be a bad idea? Should I split it into two tables; one for the user's general information and one for the user's game statistics? I know I could check the query time myself, but I haven't actually created the tables yet and I think I'd be better off with some professional advice on this important decision for my game. Thank you for your time! :)

  • MySql stored procedure not found in PHP

    - by kaupov
    Hello, I have a trouble with MySql stored procedure that calls itself recursively using PHP (CakePHP). Calling it I receive following error: SQL Error: 1305: FUNCTION dbname.GetAdvertCounts does not exist The procedure itself is following: delimiter // DROP PROCEDURE IF EXISTS GetAdvertCounts// CREATE PROCEDURE GetAdvertCounts(IN category_id INT) BEGIN DECLARE no_more_sub_categories, advert_count INT DEFAULT 0; DECLARE sub_cat_id INT; DECLARE curr_sub_category CURSOR FOR SELECT id FROM categories WHERE parent_id = category_id; DECLARE CONTINUE HANDLER FOR NOT FOUND SET no_more_sub_categories = 1; SELECT COUNT(*) INTO advert_count FROM adverts WHERE category_id = category_id; OPEN curr_sub_category; FETCH curr_sub_category INTO sub_cat_id; REPEAT SELECT advert_count + GetAdvertCounts(sub_cat_id) INTO advert_count; FETCH curr_sub_category INTO sub_cat_id; UNTIL no_more_sub_categories = 1 END REPEAT; CLOSE curr_sub_category; SELECT advert_count; END // delimiter ; If I remove or comment out the recursive call, the procedure is working. Any idea what I'm missing here? The categories are 2 level deep.

  • Inexplicably slow query in MySQL

    - by Brandon M.
    Given this result-set: mysql> EXPLAIN SELECT c.cust_name, SUM(l.line_subtotal) FROM customer c -> JOIN slip s ON s.cust_id = c.cust_id -> JOIN line l ON l.slip_id = s.slip_id -> JOIN vendor v ON v.vend_id = l.vend_id WHERE v.vend_name = 'blahblah' -> GROUP BY c.cust_name -> HAVING SUM(l.line_subtotal) > 49999 -> ORDER BY c.cust_name; +----+-------------+-------+--------+---------------------------------+---------------+---------+----------------------+------+----------------------------------------------+ | id | select_type | table | type | possible_keys | key | key_len | ref | rows | Extra | +----+-------------+-------+--------+---------------------------------+---------------+---------+----------------------+------+----------------------------------------------+ | 1 | SIMPLE | v | ref | PRIMARY,idx_vend_name | idx_vend_name | 12 | const | 1 | Using where; Using temporary; Using filesort | | 1 | SIMPLE | l | ref | idx_vend_id | idx_vend_id | 4 | csv_import.v.vend_id | 446 | | | 1 | SIMPLE | s | eq_ref | PRIMARY,idx_cust_id,idx_slip_id | PRIMARY | 4 | csv_import.l.slip_id | 1 | | | 1 | SIMPLE | c | eq_ref | PRIMARY,cIndex | PRIMARY | 4 | csv_import.s.cust_id | 1 | | +----+-------------+-------+--------+---------------------------------+---------------+---------+----------------------+------+----------------------------------------------+ 4 rows in set (0.04 sec) I'm a bit baffled as to why the query referenced by this EXPLAIN statement is still taking about a minute to execute. Isn't it true that this query only has to search through 449 rows? Anyone have any idea as to what could be slowing it down so much?

  • MySQL Join Question

    - by rbaker86
    Hi i'm struggling to write a particular MySQL Join Query. I have a table containing product data, each product can belong to multiple categories. This m:m relationship is satisfied using a link table. For this particular query I wish to retrieve all products belonging to a given category, but with each product record, I also want to return the other categories that product belongs to. Ideally I would like to achieve this using an Inner Join on the categories table, rather than performing an additional query for each product record, which would be quite inefficient. My simplifed schema is designed roughly as follows: products table: product_id, name, title, description, is_active, date_added, publish_date, etc.... categories table: category_id, name, title, description, etc... product_category table: product_id, category_id I have written the following query, which allows me to retrieve all the products belonging to the specified category_id. However, i'm really struggling to work out how to retrieve the other categories a product belongs to. SELECT p.product_id, p.name, p.title, p.description FROM prod_products AS p LEFT JOIN prod_product_category AS pc ON pc.product_id = p.product_id WHERE pc.category_id = $category_id AND UNIX_TIMESTAMP(p.publish_date) < UNIX_TIMESTAMP() AND p.is_active = 1 ORDER BY p.name ASC I'd be happy just retrieving the category id's releated to each returned product row, as I will have all category data stored in an object, and my application code can take care of the rest. Many thanks, Richard

  • Rails 3 MySQL 2 reports an error in what looks to be valid SQL syntax

    - by John Judd
    I am trying to use the following bit of code to help in seeding my database. I need to add data continually over development and do not want to have to completely reseed data every time I add something new to the seeds.rb file. So I added the following function to insert the data if it doesn't already exist. def AddSetting(group, name, value, desc) Admin::Setting.create({group: group, name: name, value: value, description: desc}) unless Admin::Setting.find_by_sql("SELECT * FROM admin_settings WHERE group = '#{group}' AND name = '#{name}';").exists? end AddSetting('google', 'analytics_id', '', 'The ID of your Google Analytics account.') AddSetting('general', 'page_title', '', '') AddSetting('general', 'tag_line', '', '') This function is included in the db/seeds.rb file. Is this the right way to do this? However I am getting the following error when I try to run it through rake. rake aborted! Mysql2::Error: You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'group = 'google' AND name = 'analytics_id'' at line 1: SELECT * FROM admin_settings WHERE group = 'google' AND name = 'analytics_id'; Tasks: TOP => db:seed (See full trace by running task with --trace) Process finished with exit code 1 What is confusing me is that I am generating correct SQL as far as I can tell. In fact my code generates the SQL and I pass that to the find_by_sql function for the model, Rails itself can't be changing the SQL, or is it? SELECT * FROM admin_settings WHERE group = 'google' AND name = 'analytics_id'; I've written a lot of SQL over the years and I've looked through similar questions here. Maybe I've missed something, but I cannot see it.

  • MySQL COUNT() total posts within a specific criteria?

    - by newbtophp
    Hey, I've been losing my hair trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong, let me explain abit about my MySQL structure (so you get a better understanding) before I go straight to the question. I have a simple PHP forum and I have a column in both tables (for posts and topics) named 'deleted' if it equals 0 that means its displayed (considered not deleted/exists) or if it equals 1 it hidden (considered deleted/doesn't exist) - bool/lean. Now, the 'specific criteria' I'm on about...I'm wanting to get a total post count within a specific forum using its id (forum_id), ensuring it only counts posts which are not deleted (deleted = 0) and their parent topics are not deleted either (deleted = 0). The column/table names are self explanatory (see my efforts below for them - if needed). I've tried the following (using a 'simple' JOIN): SELECT COUNT(t1.post_id) FROM forum_posts AS t1, forum_topics AS t2 WHERE t1.forum_id = '{$forum_id}' AND t1.deleted = 0 AND t1.topic_id = t2.topic_id AND t2.deleted = 0 LIMIT 1 I've also tried this (using a Subquery): SELECT COUNT(t1.post_id) FROM forum_posts AS t1 WHERE t1.forum_id = '{$forum_id}' AND t1.deleted = 0 AND (SELECT deleted FROM forum_topics WHERE topic_id = t1.topic_id) = 0 LIMIT 1 But both don't comply with the specific criteria. Appreciate all help! :)

  • Database (MySQL) structuring: pros and cons of multiple tables

    - by Gideon
    I am collecting data and storing it MySQL, for: 75 variables 55 countries Each year I have, at this stage since I am building this tool created a single table, of variables / countries (storing 1 year worth of data). Next year (and for several years after that) a new set of data will be input for each country. There are therefore 3 variables in controlling data returned to a user reviewing all collected data. The general form of any query would be: Show me these specifics variables, for these specific countries, for these specific years. (Show me average age and weight, for USA and Canada, for 2012 and 2009, for example) My question is, it seems that I have two options for arranging this data: -Multiple tables where I create a table of country / variable for each year data is collected - Single table and simply add a column (field) for the year that data relates to. As far as I can tell I could make these database calls with either sructure, but is one more powerful / efficient / quicker, and why? Thanks for your consideration. It's a PDO / PHP interface if that is relevent.

  • Help Optimizing MySQL Table (~ 500,000 records).

    - by Pyrite
    I have a MySQL table that collects player data from various game servers (Urban Terror). The bot that collects the data runs 24/7, and currently the table is up to about 475,000+ records. Because of this, querying this table from PHP has become quite slow. I wonder what I can do on the database side of things to make it as optomized as possible, then I can focus on the application to query the database. The table is as follows: CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `people` ( `id` bigint(20) unsigned NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, `name` varchar(40) NOT NULL, `ip` int(4) unsigned NOT NULL, `guid` varchar(32) NOT NULL, `server` int(4) unsigned NOT NULL, `date` int(11) NOT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`id`), UNIQUE KEY `Person` (`name`,`ip`,`guid`), KEY `server` (`server`), KEY `date` (`date`), KEY `PlayerName` (`name`) ) ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1 COMMENT='People that Play on Servers' AUTO_INCREMENT=475843 ; I'm storying the IPv4 (ip and server) as 4 byte integers, and using the MySQL functions NTOA(), etc to encode and decode, I heard that this way is faster, rather than varchar(15). The guid is a md5sum, 32 char hex. Date is stored as unix timestamp. I have a unique key on name, ip and guid, as to avoid duplicates of the same player. Do I have my keys setup right? Is the way I'm storing data efficient? Here is the code to query this table. You search for a name, ip, or guid, and it grabs the results of the query and cross references other records that match the name, ip, or guid from the results of the first query, and does it for each field. This is kind of hard to explain. But basically, if I search for one player by name, I'll see every other name he has used, every IP he has used and every GUID he has used. <form action="<?php echo $_SERVER['PHP_SELF']; ?>" method="post"> Search: <input type="text" name="query" id="query" /><input type="submit" name="btnSubmit" value="Submit" /> </form> <?php if (!empty($_POST['query'])) { ?> <table cellspacing="1" id="1up_people" class="tablesorter" width="300"> <thead> <tr> <th>ID</th> <th>Player Name</th> <th>Player IP</th> <th>Player GUID</th> <th>Server</th> <th>Date</th> </tr> </thead> <tbody> <?php function super_unique($array) { $result = array_map("unserialize", array_unique(array_map("serialize", $array))); foreach ($result as $key => $value) { if ( is_array($value) ) { $result[$key] = super_unique($value); } } return $result; } if (!empty($_POST['query'])) { $query = trim($_POST['query']); $count = 0; $people = array(); $link = mysql_connect('localhost', 'mysqluser', 'yea right!'); if (!$link) { die('Could not connect: ' . mysql_error()); } mysql_select_db("1up"); $sql = "SELECT id, name, INET_NTOA(ip) AS ip, guid, INET_NTOA(server) AS server, date FROM 1up_people WHERE (name LIKE \"%$query%\" OR INET_NTOA(ip) LIKE \"%$query%\" OR guid LIKE \"%$query%\")"; $result = mysql_query($sql, $link); if (!$result) { die(mysql_error()); } // Now take the initial results and parse each column into its own array while ($row = mysql_fetch_array($result, MYSQL_NUM)) { $name = htmlspecialchars($row[1]); $people[] = array( 'id' => $row[0], 'name' => $name, 'ip' => $row[2], 'guid' => $row[3], 'server' => $row[4], 'date' => $row[5] ); } // now for each name, ip, guid in results, find additonal records $people2 = array(); foreach ($people AS $person) { $ip = $person['ip']; $sql = "SELECT id, name, INET_NTOA(ip) AS ip, guid, INET_NTOA(server) AS server, date FROM 1up_people WHERE (ip = \"$ip\")"; $result = mysql_query($sql, $link); while ($row = mysql_fetch_array($result, MYSQL_NUM)) { $name = htmlspecialchars($row[1]); $people2[] = array( 'id' => $row[0], 'name' => $name, 'ip' => $row[2], 'guid' => $row[3], 'server' => $row[4], 'date' => $row[5] ); } } $people3 = array(); foreach ($people AS $person) { $guid = $person['guid']; $sql = "SELECT id, name, INET_NTOA(ip) AS ip, guid, INET_NTOA(server) AS server, date FROM 1up_people WHERE (guid = \"$guid\")"; $result = mysql_query($sql, $link); while ($row = mysql_fetch_array($result, MYSQL_NUM)) { $name = htmlspecialchars($row[1]); $people3[] = array( 'id' => $row[0], 'name' => $name, 'ip' => $row[2], 'guid' => $row[3], 'server' => $row[4], 'date' => $row[5] ); } } $people4 = array(); foreach ($people AS $person) { $name = $person['name']; $sql = "SELECT id, name, INET_NTOA(ip) AS ip, guid, INET_NTOA(server) AS server, date FROM 1up_people WHERE (name = \"$name\")"; $result = mysql_query($sql, $link); while ($row = mysql_fetch_array($result, MYSQL_NUM)) { $name = htmlspecialchars($row[1]); $people4[] = array( 'id' => $row[0], 'name' => $name, 'ip' => $row[2], 'guid' => $row[3], 'server' => $row[4], 'date' => $row[5] ); } } // Combine people and people2 into just people $people = array_merge($people, $people2); $people = array_merge($people, $people3); $people = array_merge($people, $people4); $people = super_unique($people); foreach ($people AS $person) { $date = ($person['date']) ? date("M d, Y", $person['date']) : 'Before 8/1/10'; echo "<tr>\n"; echo "<td>".$person['id']."</td>"; echo "<td>".$person['name']."</td>"; echo "<td>".$person['ip']."</td>"; echo "<td>".$person['guid']."</td>"; echo "<td>".$person['server']."</td>"; echo "<td>".$date."</td>"; echo "</tr>\n"; $count++; } // Find Total Records //$result = mysql_query("SELECT id FROM 1up_people", $link); //$total = mysql_num_rows($result); mysql_close($link); } ?> </tbody> </table> <p> <?php echo $count."   • Difficulty Inserting from HTML form into MySQL (created in Workbench)

    - by Chaya Cooper
    I created a MySQL database in Workbench 5.2.35 for purposes of storing and using information submitted in html forms but I'm having difficulty inserting records from the html form. The relevant SQL script was saved as Demo2.sql, the schema is C2F, and the table is customer_info. I wasn't sure if that was the problem, so I tried replacing the database name (Demo2) with the schema name, but that didn't work either. My html file includes: form action="insert.php" method="post" The insert.php file states: ?php $con = mysql_connect("localhost","root","****"); if (!$con) { die('Could not connect: ' . mysql_error()); } mysql_select_db("Demo2", $con); $sql="INSERT INTO customer_info(fname, lname, user, password, reminder, answer) VALUES ('$_POST[fname]','$_POST[lname]','$_POST[user]','$_POST[password]','$_POST[reminder]','$_POST[answer]')"; if (!mysql_query($sql,$con)) { die('Error: ' . mysql_error()); } echo "1 record added"; mysql_close($con) ? I've also tried INSERT INTO c2f.customer_info(fname, lname, etc. and INSERT INTO 'c2f'.'customer_info'

  • How to update MySQL table with a cumulative count of events with the same date

    - by John
    I have a table which I pull data from. This data has a date and a stock symbol. There can be multiple rows of data with the same date and different stock symbols. I need to update the table so that there is a running total for all rows with the same date. When a new date occurs the cumulative count re-sets to 1 and then resumes. A typical query: mysql> SELECT Sym 'sym' , fdate as 'FilledDate', TsTradeNum 'numT' -> FROM trades_entered_b2 -> WHERE fDate >= '2009-08-03' AND fDate <= '2009-08-07' -> LIMIT 10; +------+------------+------+ | sym | FilledDate | numT | +------+------------+------+ | WAT | 2009-08-03 | 0 | | ALGN | 2009-08-04 | 0 | | POT | 2009-08-05 | 0 | | PTR | 2009-08-06 | 0 | | SCHW | 2009-08-06 | 0 | | FDO | 2009-08-07 | 0 | | NBL | 2009-08-07 | 0 | | RRC | 2009-08-07 | 0 | | WAT | 2009-08-08 | 0 | | COCO | 2009-08-08 | 0 | +------+------------+------+ What I want: +------+------------+------+ | sym | FilledDate | numT | +------+------------+------+ | WAT | 2009-08-03 | 1 | | ALGN | 2009-08-04 | 1 | | POT | 2009-08-05 | 1 | | PTR | 2009-08-06 | 1 | | SCHW | 2009-08-06 | 2 | | FDO | 2009-08-07 | 3 | | NBL | 2009-08-07 | 4 | | RRC | 2009-08-07 | 5 | | WAT | 2009-08-08 | 1 | | COCO | 2009-08-08 | 2 | +------+------------+------+ What I need to do is update the TsTradeNum column with the correct values. I have tried to create a function and various queries all failed. Any ideas? Thanks in advance

  • Need help with transferring data between MySQL db's using PHP

    - by JM4
    In one of the sites I manage, the client has decided to take on ACH/Bank Account administration where it was previously outsourced. As a result, the information submitted in our online form which used to simply store in a single database for processing now must sit in 'limbo' until the funds used for payment have been verified. My original plan is as follows: At the end of an enrollment, all form data is collected and stored in a single MySQL database. Our internal administrator will receive an email notification reminding him enrollments have taken place. He will process the ACH information collected and wait the 3-4 business days needed for payment to clear. Once the payment information has been returned as Good (haven't considered what I will do with the 'bad' yet), the administrator can log into a secure portal which allows him to click a button to 'process' the full information once compared and verified. the process is simplified as: Enrollment complete: data stored in DB 'A' Funds verified and link clicked: data from 'A' is copied to DB 'B' and 'A' is deleted. I have run similar processes with CSV output before and simply used //transfers old data to archive $transfer = mysql_query('INSERT INTO '.$archive.' SELECT * FROM '.$table) or die(mysql_error()); //empties existing table $query = mysql_query('TRUNCATE TABLE '.$table) or die(mysql_error()); but in those cases, ALL data returned was copied and deleted. I only want to copy and delete a single record. Any idea how to accomplish this?

  • mysql - multiple where and search

    - by Shamil
    I'm trying to write a SQL query that satisfies multiple criteria. Of these, most are connected via a column, so joins are possible, however, some queries are such that I'd have to search additional tables for the information. What would be the least expensive and best way to do this? Let's say that we have a few tables. One table contains information such as sales information for a server: the salesperson, client id, service lease term, timestamps etc. It is possible that a client has multiple sales but with a different "service". I'd need to pick up all of the different ones. Another table has the quotes for the services, I'd need to pick some information out about this, whilst another, which could be joined to this one has some more information. Those tables are linked by a common client ID, so joins are possible, but I'd also need to search the first table for multiple instances of the client ID. Of course, I'd want to restrict the search to certain timestamps, which I can easily do as the timestamps are stored in MySQL format.

  • Need help managing MySql connections

    - by David Jenings
    I'm having trouble finding a clear explanation of connection pooling. I'm building an app using the .NET connector I downloaded from mysql.com. The app only needs one db connection but will be running simultaneously on about 6 machines on my network. Normally, I'd create the connection at startup and just leave it. But I'm seeing lots of posts from people who say that's bad practice. Also I'm concerned about timeouts. My app will run 24/7 and there may be extended periods without database activity. I'm leaning toward the following: using (MySqlConnection conn = new MySqlConnection(connStr)) { conn.Open(); // use connection } But I'm not sure I understand what's going on in the background. Is this actually closing the connection and allowing gc to kill the object, or is there a built in pooling behavior that preserves the object and redelivers it the next time I try to create one? I certainly don't want the app reauthenticating across the network every time I hit the database. Can anyone offer me some advise?

  • Finding 'free' times in MySQL

    - by James Inman
    Hi, I've got a table as follows: mysql> DESCRIBE student_lectures; +------------------+----------+------+-----+---------+----------------+ | Field | Type | Null | Key | Default | Extra | +------------------+----------+------+-----+---------+----------------+ | id | int(11) | NO | PRI | NULL | auto_increment | | course_module_id | int(11) | YES | MUL | NULL | | | day | int(11) | YES | | NULL | | | start | datetime | YES | | NULL | | | end | datetime | YES | | NULL | | | cancelled_at | datetime | YES | | NULL | | | lecture_type_id | int(11) | YES | | NULL | | | lecture_id | int(11) | YES | | NULL | | | student_id | int(11) | YES | | NULL | | | created_at | datetime | YES | | NULL | | | updated_at | datetime | YES | | NULL | | +------------------+----------+------+-----+---------+----------------+ I'm essentially wanting to find times when a lecture doesn't happen - so to do this I'm thinking a query to group overlapping lectures together (so, for example, 9am-10am and 10am-11am lectures will be shown as a single 9am-11am lecture). There may be more than two lectures back-to-back. I've currently got this: SELECT l.start, l2.end FROM student_lectures l LEFT JOIN student_lectures l2 ON ( l2.start = l.end ) WHERE l.student_id = 1 AND l.start >= '2010-04-26 09:00:00' AND l.end <= '2010-04-30 19:00:00' AND l2.end IS NOT NULL AND l2.end != l.start GROUP BY l.start, l2.end ORDER BY l.start, l2.start Which returns: +---------------------+---------------------+ | start | end | +---------------------+---------------------+ | 2010-04-26 09:00:00 | 2010-04-26 11:00:00 | | 2010-04-26 10:00:00 | 2010-04-26 12:00:00 | | 2010-04-26 10:00:00 | 2010-04-26 13:00:00 | | 2010-04-26 13:15:00 | 2010-04-26 16:15:00 | | 2010-04-26 14:15:00 | 2010-04-26 16:15:00 | | 2010-04-26 15:15:00 | 2010-04-26 17:15:00 | | 2010-04-26 16:15:00 | 2010-04-26 18:15:00 | ...etc... The output I'm looking for from this would be: +---------------------+---------------------+ | start | end | +---------------------+---------------------+ | 2010-04-26 09:00:00 | 2010-04-26 13:00:00 | | 2010-04-26 13:15:00 | 2010-04-26 18:15:00 | Any help appreciated, thanks!

  • saving mySql row checkpoint in table ?

    - by Keet
    hello, I am having a wee problem, and I am sure there is a more convenient/simpler way to achieve the solution, but all searches are throw in up a blanks at the moment ! I have a mysql db that is regularly updated by php page [ via a cron job ] this adds or deletes entries as appropriate. My issue is that I also need to check if any details [ie the phone number or similar] for the entry have changed, but doing this at every call is not possible [ not only does is seem to me to be overkill, but I am restricted by a 3rd party api call limit] Plus this is not critical info. So I was thinking it might be best to just check one entry per page call, and iterate through the rows/entires with each successive page call. What would be the best way of doing this, ie keeping track of which entry/row in the table that the should be checked next? I have 2 ideas of how to implement this: 1 ) The id of current row could be save to a file on the server [ surely not the best way] 2) an extra boolean field [check] is add to the table, set to True on the first entry and false to all other. Then on each page call it; finds 'where check = TRUE' runs the update check on this row, 'set check = FALSE' 'set [the next row] check = TRUE' Si this the best way to do this, or does anyone have any better sugestion ? thanks in advance ! .k PS sorry about the title

  • Time calculations with MySQL TIMEDIFF

    - by Oli
    Hi there, I have the following table: mysql> SELECT id,start1,stop1,start2,stop2 FROM times; +----+---------------------+---------------------+---------------------+---------------------+ | id | start1 | stop1 | start2 | stop2 | +----+---------------------+---------------------+---------------------+---------------------+ | 4 | 2010-04-23 08:05:00 | 2010-04-23 12:15:00 | 2010-04-23 12:45:00 | 2010-04-23 16:50:00 | | 2 | 2010-04-26 09:30:00 | 2010-04-26 12:10:00 | 2010-04-26 12:50:00 | 2010-04-26 16:50:00 | | 7 | 2010-04-28 08:45:00 | 2010-04-28 11:45:00 | 2010-04-28 13:10:00 | 2010-04-28 17:29:00 | | 6 | 2010-04-27 09:30:00 | 2010-04-27 12:15:00 | 2010-04-27 12:55:00 | 2010-04-27 18:44:00 | +----+---------------------+---------------------+---------------------+---------------------+ I want to sum total worktime and the difference to the "needed work hours". It works pretty well with the statement below, but for unknown reasons it doesn't work for id 6. start*/stop* fields are in format datetime. SELECT *, TIME_FORMAT(TIMEDIFF(totaltime,'08:24'),'%H:%i') AS diff, totaltime > '08:24' AS redorgreen FROM ( SELECT DATE_FORMAT(start1,'%a %e. %M %Y') AS date, TIME_FORMAT(SUM(TIMEDIFF(stop1,start1) + TIMEDIFF(stop2,start2)),'%H:%i') AS totaltime, TIME_FORMAT(start1,'%H:%i') AS start1, TIME_FORMAT(stop1,'%H:%i') AS stop1, TIME_FORMAT(start2,'%H:%i') AS start2, TIME_FORMAT(stop2,'%H:%i') AS stop2, id as id FROM times GROUP BY id ASC ) AS somethingwedontneed; This is the result: select id, TIME_FORMAT(SUM(TIMEDIFF(stop1,start1) + TIMEDIFF(stop2,start2)),'%H:%i') AS totaltime from times group by id; +----+-----------+ | id | totaltime | +----+-----------+ | 2 | 06:40 | | 4 | 08:15 | | 6 | NULL | | 7 | 07:19 | +----+-----------+ Thanks in advance for every hint.

  • PHP & MySQL username validation and storage problem.

    - by php
    For some reason when a user enters a brand new username the error message <p>Username unavailable</p> is displayed and the name is not stored. I was wondering if some can help find the flaw in my code so I can fix this error? Thanks Here is the PHP code. if($_POST['username'] && trim($_POST['username'])!=='') { $u = "SELECT * FROM users WHERE username = '$username' AND user_id <> '$user_id'"; $r = mysqli_query ($mysqli, $u) or trigger_error("Query: $u\n<br />MySQL Error: " . mysqli_error($mysqli)); if (mysqli_num_rows($r) == TRUE) { echo '<p>Username unavailable</p>'; $_POST['username'] = NULL; } else if(isset($_POST['username']) && mysqli_num_rows($r) == 0 && strlen($_POST['username']) <= 255) { $username = mysqli_real_escape_string($mysqli, $_POST['username']); } else if($_POST['username'] && strlen($_POST['username']) >= 256) { echo '<p>Username can not exceed 255 characters</p>'; } }

  • Mysql dropping inserts with triggers

    - by user2891127
    Using mysql 5.5. I have two tables. One has a whitelist of hashes. When I insert a new row into the other table, I want to first compare the hash in the insert statement to the whitelist. If it's in the whitelist, I don't want to do the insert (less data to plow through later). The inserts are generated from another program and are text files with sql statements. I've been playing with triggers, and almost have it working: BEGIN IF (select count(md5hash) from whitelist where md5hash=new.md5hash) 0 THEN SIGNAL SQLSTATE '45000' SET MESSAGE_TEXT = 'Already Whitelisted'; END IF; END But there's a problem. The Signal throwing up the error stops the import. I want to skip that line, not stop the whole import. Some searching didn't find any way to silently skip the import. My next idea was to create a duplicate table definition, and redirect the insert to that dup table. But the old and new don't seem to apply to table names. Other then adding an ignore column to my table then doing a mass drop based on that column after the import, is there any way to achieve my goal?

  • Need help INSERT record(s) MySQL DB

    - by JM4
    I have an online form which collects member(s) information and stores it into a very long MySQL database. We allow up to 16 members to enroll at a single time and originally structured the DB to allow such. For example: If 1 Member enrolls, his personal information (first name, last name, address, phone, email) are stored on a single row. If 15 Members enroll (all at once), their personal information are stored in the same single row. The row has information housing columns for all 'possible' inputs. I am trying to consolidate this code and having every nth member that enrolls put onto a new record within the database. I have seen sugestions before for inserting multiple records as such: INSERT INTO tablename VALUES (('$f1name', '$f1address', '$f1phone'), ('$f2name', '$f2address', '$f2phone')... The issue with this is two fold: I do not know how many records are being enrolled from person to person so the only way to make the statement above is to use a loop The information collected from the forms is NOT a single array so I can't loop through one array and have it parse out. My information is collected as individual input fields like such: Member1FirstName, Member1LastName, Member1Phone, Member2Firstname, Member2LastName, Member2Phone... and so on Is it possible to store information in separate rows WITHOUT using a loop (and therefore having to go back and completely restructure my form field names and such (which can't happen due to the way the validation rules are built.)
