• How can I view my video card's temperature via SSH?

  I've finally managed to set up my two ATI Radeon 6950 video cards in my machine, but the cards can get quite hot. Based on the arrangement of my apartment, I want to be able to SSH into the machine an execute a command to find out the temperature. What I have tried so far is this... export DISPLAY=:0.0 sudo aticonfig --adapter=0 --od-gettemperature However, when I do that via SSH, I get the following error: ERROR - X needs to be running to perform ATI Overdrive(TM) commands If I turn on X forwarding when I remote into the machine, then it just seems to affect my local machine instead of the remote machine. Am I doing this correctly? Is there a better way to monitor my video card's temperature?

• UINavigationController from scratch?

  I have a view based app that works well. (In other words, I'm not going to start over with a Navigation-Based App template.) It's an immersive app of sorts and I'm trying to add a Table View that loads in a new view when a button is pressed. The loading the nib part works, but I can't seem to be able to add a navigation controller to the new view. I want to see a navigation bar on top with a done button and an edit button. Also, I want to the Table View entries to be empty. I added a new file like so: File-> New File -> UINavigationController subclass. I checked the UITableViewController Subclass and With XIB for user interface. All I see when the view is pulled up is a blank Table View. I am able to customize things in the view controller. What can I do to make the table show a navigation bar and be editable? I need some direction here please. EDIT: I'm working with the latest Public SDK. (XCode 3.2.2)

• Organising files and classes in XCode (iPhone application)

  It's a generic question and really a newbie one too, so bear with me... I'm playing with some iPhone development, and trying to create a simple "flip type" application. Nothing sophisticated, let's say on the flip side is a short application summary, bit like 'help' and on the main screen is a simple board game, let's say tic-tac-toe or similar. Now, XCode has generated me 'Main View', 'Flipside View' and 'Application Delegate' folders, with default template files in them. Now the question is where do I create appropriate 'MVC' classes? Let's say (V)iew classes are going to be the ones that have been automatically created. So the Flipside view class is responsible for generating text/images etc on the 'help' view. 'Main View' class is what draws the items on the table and updates the counters, etc. Where should I place the 'controller' class? And also, should it only be dealing with proxying only to the model? According to this the controller method is called from the view and manipulates the method classes. Similarly, the results from model are passed back to the view class by the controller issuing the calls to appropriate view methods. Similarly, where does the model class go? or should I just create a new folder for each, controller and model class files? What I'm after is the best practices, or just a short description how people normally structure their applications. I know it's very specific and also undefined... I came from Django background, so the way stuff is organised there is slightly different. Hope this makes sense, sorry if it's all bit vague, but I have to start somewhere :) And yes I've read quite few docs on the apple developer site, but trouble is that the documents are either going into too much detail about the language/framework/etc and the examples are way too simplistic. Actually, this leads me to the final question, has anyone know any good example of relatively complete application tutorial which I could use as a reference in organising my files?...

• Where can I view rountrip information in my ASP.NET application?

  Hi All, I'm playing around with storing application settings in my database, but I think I may have created a situation where superfluous roundtrips are being made. Is there an easy way to view roundtrips made to an MS Access (I know, I know) backend? I guess while I'm here, I should ask for advice on the best way to handle this project. I'm building an app that generates links based on file names (files are numbered ints, 0-5000). The files are stored on network shares, arranged by name, and the paths change frequently as files are bulk transfered to create space, etc. Example: Files 1000 - 2000 go to /path/1000s Files 2001 - 3000 go to /path/2000s Files 3001 - 4000 go to /path/3000s etc I'm sure by now you can see where I'm going with this. Ultimately, I'm trying to avoid making a roundtrip to get the paths for every single file as they are displayed in a gridview. I'm open to the notion that I've gone about this all wrong and that my idea might be rubbish. I've toyed around with the notion of just creating a flat file, but if I do that, do I still run into the problem of having that file opened and closed for every file displayed in a gridview?

  I have a column of product views in a database (e.g. top, bottom, front, back). I'm trying to generate a series of file inputs to allow the user to upload an image for each view. This is the result I'm after: ... <label>Top</label> <input type="file" name="image[Top]"><br> <label>Bottom</label> <input type="file" name="image[Bottom]"><br> <label>Front</label> <input type="file" name="image[Front']"><br> ... • Android: Adding header to dynamic listView

  I'm still pretty new to android coding, and trying to figure things out. I'm creating a listview dynamically as shown below (and then disabling items dynamically also) - you'll notice that there's no xml file for the activity itself, just for the listitem. What I'd like to do is add a static header to the page. Could someone explain to me how I can modify the code below to EITHER add this programatically within the java file, before the listView, OR edit the code below so that it targets a listView within an xml file! • In RoR, is there an easy way to prevent the view from outputting <p> tags?

  I'm new to Ruby and Rails and I have a simple controller that shows an item from the database in a default view. When it is displaying in HTML it is outputting <p> tags along with the text content. Is there a way to prevent this from happening? I suppose if there isn't, is there at least a way to set the default css class for the same output in a statement such as this: <% @Items.each do |i| %> <%= i.itemname %> <div class="menu_body"> <a href="#">Link-1</a> </div> <% end %> So the problem is with the <%= i.itemname %> part. Is there a way to stop it from wrapping it in its own <p> tags? Or set the css class for the output? Thanks!

• View old Inbox messages in (OS X) Mail.app via Exchange IMAP?

  We're thinking of migrating our Mac users away from Entourage 2008 and instead using Mail.app (built into OS X Snow Leopard). We're running SBS 2003 so it's Exchange 2003 for now. When I setup an "Exchange IMAP" Mail account for a user, their Inbox shows up as empty. However, all of their other folders appear to be populated with their existing email correctly. New email shows up correctly in their Inbox. What do you have to do to see all of the old messages already in the Inbox? Thank you.

"There are a couple of ways to configure Process Monitor to record logon operations: one is to use Sysinternals PsExec to launch it in the session 0 so that it survives the logoff and subsequent logon and another is to use the boot logging feature to capture activity from early in the boot, including the logon." How does one do either of these options using process monitor to find out what is happening during a user login?

• Drupal 6: Creating "ON/OFF News Links" functionality for a block created with View Module.

  Hi friends, I'm a drupal newbie who needs some advice... I have a news list block at homepage, created with View Module. It is listing all added news' title and link. Everything is cool so far. Now I need to add an ON/OFF option at admin side for homepage news block. When the setting is ON, it will work as it is. When it is OFF, only the titles will be listed with no linking to news detail page. So, now where should I add this ON/OFF option? I have only add/edit/delete pages for each news, there is no common news page to add such option. Should I create an admin page with such ON/OFF option in? Also I think I need to create a db table to keep this ON/OFF status. and controlling this value at homepage block, if it is 1 or 0, and displaying links according to db value :/ it looks too long way Create db table Create an page with ON/OFF option in add php codes to update db for admin's choice get the db value in homepage block to display links, etc. is there any shorter, better way to do what I need? • Remove in between folder structure from the url in a php website

  I have a php website having following folder structure (basic structure). project_name app controller model view css js img index.php So when I view index.php in WAMP the url is http://localhost/project_name/ But when I go inside the site (eg. login.php which resides under view folder) url is like this. http://localhost/project_name/app/view/login.php I found that using .htaccess we can change the urls. So I tried this (in .htaccess). RewriteEngine on RewriteBase / Redirect 301 /project_name/app/view/login.php /project_name/login.php RewriteRule ^/project_name/login.php$ /project_name/app/view/login.php [L] Now url is http://localhost/project_name/login.php It is correct. But it seems php does not use the original link to grab the file (ie. from /project_name/app/view/login.php) but from here /project_name/login.php So it throws 404 error. What should I change? Please help me, i am just trying to hide /app/view/ part from the url so that user won't see my folder structure. I have read about various ways of doing that for about 9hrs today but still couldn't get anything working correctly. Hope my question is clear enough. Any help is greatly appreciated!

However, when ever I move a window, the redraw of that window takes 3-8 seconds. Even moving the window takes the same amount of time Is this being done in software rather than the nVidea hardware? The windows themselves do not respond. I have seen a few old threads but no relevant fixes - If anyone could suggest a fix I would very much appreciate it. I have tried: sudo nvidea-xconfig sudo nvidia-settings Then configure TwinView go to save the config... and the error unable to parse xorg.conf file and the error in the console VALIDATION ERROR: Data incomplete in file /etc/X11/xorg.conf. I know about one such great tool - that is "Comodo firewall". It can smoothly block and accurately display apps accessing internet. The only problem of installing this is, Windows recommends only one firewall apps and as Im running Windows 7 x64 Ultimate there will be complications if I install this one. I need a tool which can accurately display which apps are accessing internet (through which port) and how much data they are receiving or sending. I also need some arrangement within the app so that I can easily temporarily block that app from accessing internet.

• How do I get a reference to a rootViewController to a sub-view?

  An answer posted for one of my previous questions brings up another question; I am calling a new view controller, "RuleBuilder," from my rootViewController. The rootViewController holds a reference to a contacts array. How do I get a reference to that array into the RuleBuilder? I tried adding UITableViewController *rootViewController; ... @property (nonatomic, retain) UITableViewController *rootViewController; to RuleBuilder.h, and then @synthesize rootViewController; in RuleBuilder.m. When I instantiate and push the RuleBuilder from within rootViewController, I do this: ruleBuilder.rootViewController = self; But when I try this [rootViewController.contacts addObject:newContact]; from within RuleBuilder, I get a compiler error to the effect of "request for 'contacts' in something not a struct" (or very similar; I haven't implemented this exact snippet of code, but I tried an identical approach not an hour ago for a couple of different references that I never was able to get working). • How to export or view audio file references in a PDF?

  I have a an interactive PDF file that is over 90+ pages long. Each page is a map with city names that contains a Spanish pronunciation of that city in a .wav file. I'd say there are about 10-15 audio files for each map which comes out to 1000+ audio files. Is there a way to extract/export a list of the sound file names associated with each map? I tried to save the PDF to an HTML file, but it only exported images and text, and because the audio files were embedded in the PDF, the file names did not carry over to the HTML file. Any other ideas? I need to see what audio file goes with what map/page.

• Can Google App users view Exchange users public calendars and contacts?

  My company currently uses MS Exchange 2003 for company email, contacts, and calendars. We have approximately 150 users. Construction industry. I would like to look into migrating from Exchange to Google Apps. It will be an easier sell to the powers that be if we can migrate certain smaller departments first successfully than an entire company move. I would like to first migrate our field superintendents who are usually out of the office working remotely. Approx 30 users. Will Google App users be able to see our Exchange user's calendars and vice versa? How about public folders? Anyone's migration story is much appreciated. Thank you.

  So, let's say I run sudo apt-get upgrade on my Lucid Lynx and it upgrades a couple of packages I'm interested in. Is there a command to run that will open some kind of info or manual that tells me what changes were made in this new version of the package? For instance, if run the apt-get upgrade and it installs a new version of empathy. Do I have to go over to their site to review the changes made in this version, or is there a quicker command line way?

• What goes into the "Controller" in "MVC"?

  I think I understand the basic concepts of MVC - the Model contains the data and behaviour of the application, the View is responsible for displaying it to the user and the Controller deals with user input. What I'm uncertain about is exactly what goes in the Controller. Lets say for example I have a fairly simple application (I'm specifically thinking Java, but I suppose the same principles apply elsewhere). I organise my code into 3 packages called app.model, app.view and app.controller. Within the app.model package, I have a few classes that reflect the actual behaviour of the application. These extends Observable and use setChanged() and notifyObservers() to trigger the views to update when appropriate. The app.view package has a class (or several classes for different types of display) that uses javax.swing components to handle the display. Some of these components need to feed back into the Model. If I understand correctly, the View shouldn't have anything to do with the feedback - that should be dealt with by the Controller. So what do I actually put in the Controller? Do I put the public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) in the View with just a call to a method in the Controller? If so, should any validation etc be done in the Controller? If so, how do I feedback error messages back to the View - should that go through the Model again, or should the Controller just send it straight back to View? If the validation is done in the View, what do I put in the Controller? Sorry for the long question, I just wanted to document my understanding of the process and hopefully someone can clarify this issue for me!
