  • PHP/Mysql issues

    Php/my sql newbie question. I have a database I've imported into my local phpmyadmin. However it seems I can't access it from my a php application. The connection string seems right and when i try to authenticate user credentials to access database information, no problems. However authenticate everyone and knows when i put in fake credentials. Still it won't pull any other information from the database. For instance, once a users login they should see something like, "Hello username"... that kind of thing. At this point I see "Hello" without the username. Any ideas what i might be missing?

    Hi, I have all written code and i want to this code standarise by php code sniffer. I would like to know what is the best way to start with it . I had installed it but when i run the command phpcs /path/to/code/myfile.php in the command line i got the last one hundered line error from 310 to 410 . but if i want to see the starting errors of any line error how can i see that . Mostly errors are 322 | ERROR | Spaces must be used to indent lines; tabs are not allowed 322 | ERROR | Line indented incorrectly; expected at least 8 spaces, found 2 How can i solve these things easily and in future it don't repeat , what it saying that i should not use tab , and use space , by using space it will take time . and how can i start with basic standard ,because don't want to utilise more time in this right now. I'm having trouble submitting a login form via Ajax for a php script to run and return a new set of html items which will be replacing the HTML in #userlinks.... heres what I have so far $("#login_form").submit(function() { return false; }); $('#login_button').click(function(event) { $form = $(this).parent("form"); $.post($form.attr("action"), $form.serialize(), function(data){ $('#userlinks').html(data); }); }); The php script checks for post data of username && password, yet all I'm getting is a page refresh and no changes. Nothing returns unless I turn login_button into a link and change the script a bit... Any help would be appreciated!

    I have just started learning all this coding language and the teacher is asking us to do the following. I know it may sound really easy for people who do this full time or have more time coding. The teacher is always telling us to GOOGLE everything and I have tried too many sites but I haven't found anything that helps me at all. I need to write two JSON documents (products and categories) using PHP that will dynamically read values from my MySQL database. When each document is called upon, it will return perfectly formatted JSON that will validate using http://jsonlint.com/ Honestly I don't know what to do. I don't understand PHP and now this JSON thing is making it more confusing.

    Can someone recommend some good resources for learning about MVC in PHP? It doesn't have to be specific to MVC in PHP. In fact, I'm looking for recommendations of materials that focus on the higher level concepts with examples that could port well to any language so even ASP.net books will be tolerated ;-) Any recommendations for books, websites, blogs, etc would be excellent. UPDATE: I have reviewed the MVC Learning Resources post but all of the references there seemed to be ASP.net specific. I was hoping to gather suggestions that were broader than a single language.

    Hi, I'm new to PHP and I'm having a problem when trying to link my CSS files using include. Basically I need my files to link back to a certain directory no matter how far down the file is. I have tried using <?php include $_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT'] . '/sysprogs/required/header.html'; ?> But header.html contains the links to my css files so the directory it ends up looking for the css files in is http://localhost/SysProgs/software/CSS/style.css instead of where I want it to go to which is http://localhost/SysProgs/required/CSS/style.css I hope that made sense and I hope you can help me

    I have quite a few objects in my system that implement the PHP SPL Iterator interface. As I write them I also write tests. I know that writing tests is generally NOT a cut 'n paste job. But, when it comes to testing classes that implement Standard PHP Library interfaces, surely it makes sense to have a few script snippets that can be borrowed and dropped in to a Test class - purely to test that particular interface. It seems sensible to have these publicly available. So, I was wondering if you knew of any?

I've got it to create the database but now I need to load in several .sql files. I had planned to open the file and mysql_query it a line at a time - until I looked at the schema files and realised they aren't just one query per line. So, please.. how do I load an sql file from within PHP? (as phpMyAdmin does with it's import command).

    At the beginning PHP was a scripting language. But after the introduction and improvement of OOP I see more and more objects added to the core. They started with SPL which grew a lot, now we have DOMDocument family, DateTime family which should be part of PECL, Pear or Zend Framework or implemented by each one of us. Shouldn't be php only for build-in functions and all these objects passed to something else? Example. DateTime class is part of the core and I see it very similar with Zend_Date.

    I'm having trouble when sending emails thorough the mail() function. I have a script that works perfectly fine for an email address like [email protected] but when the first part of the email is something with a dot like [email protected] it doesn't work and returns this error : Warning: mail() [function.mail ]: SMTP server response: 554 : Recipient address rejected: Relay access denied in confirmed.php on line 119 I am using real email address but have changed it in the above example. Any thoughts - I'm not a php master but surely there is an easy way to send emails to address with a 2 part first section?? Thanks in advance Ali

    This is a trick question, while developing a php+ajax application i felt into some long queries, nothing wrong with them, but they could be done in background. I know that there's a way to just send a reply to user while throwing the real processing to another process by exec(), however it dosen't feels right for me, this might generate exploits and it's not pratical on making it compatible with virtual servers and cross platform. PHP offers the ob_* functions although they help on flushing the cache, but the user will keep connected until the script is running. I'm wondering if there's an alternate to exec to keep a script running after sending data to user and closing connection/thread with apache, or a less "dirty" way to have processing data sent to another script.

  • Obtaining photo 'stars' rating using PHP

    I am trying to extract the photo 'stars' rating from .jpg files using php code. My intent is to show the highest rated images as part of a slideshow. I found that using the PHP_JPEG_Metadata_Toolkit_1.11 I am able to get the rating of the file if the rating is set from within Vista (Right click - Properties - Details - Set rating by clicking on stars) by reading the array returned by the Metadata_Toolkit $exif = get_EXIF_JPEG( $photodir . "/" . $filename ); $rating = $exif[0][18246]['Data'][0]; However if I set the rating using Adobe Bridge, I can see the 'stars' in Vista, but the $exif[0][18246]['Data'][0] returns a null value. Is PHP code available to read the ratings applied by both Windows Vista AND Adobe Bridge?

  • MySQL PHP incompatibility.

    Ok maybe I've overlooked something really simple here, but I can't seem to figure this out. I'm running WAMP locally, but connecting to a remote MySQL database. The local version of PHP is the latest 5.3.0. One of the remote databases, being version 5.0.45 works fine. However, the other remote database I'm trying to connect to, which is version 5.0.22 throws the following error before dying: Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: OK packet 6 bytes shorter than expected. PID=5880 in ... Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: mysqlnd cannot connect to MySQL 4.1+ using old authentication in ... WTF? UPDATE: Reverting to PHP 5.2.* i.e. anything lower than 5.3.0 resolves the problem completely. As long as I am not running 5.3.0 I can connect to both databases. I'm not sure what the explanation is for this weirdness.

    I have the following php form. I am trying to make it so that when the form is loaded, the values will be assigned the appropriate check- variable. This variable will contain either "checked or "". If it contains checked, the way it is displayed with the html should cause the relevant checkbox to be checked. As it is, the variables do not seem to be being passed. When I echo out $deleted or $notice from within the submitinfo branch, they are blank. Furthermore, nothing is being inserted into the database, and I am not getting any database error.   • PHP Doxygen Collaboration Diagrams

    I've started playing around with doxygen to generate documentation from my PHP code. I notice there are two diagrams in the generated output - inheritance and collaboration. I know about the inheritance one, but the collaboration one has piqued my interest since reading the manual: If the COLLABORATION_GRAPH and HAVE_DOT tags are set to YES then doxygen will generate a graph for each documented class showing the direct and indirect implementation dependencies (inheritance, containment, and class references variables) of the class with other documented classes. The impression I get from that description is that composition relationships should be represented by the collaboration diagram as well, but it always seems to just be identical to the inheritance one. Is there something I can do to hint to Doxygen the things I would like to appear in this diagram? Does it just not work with PHP?
