  • Are these hacking attempts or something less sinister?

    I just had a look through our web server error logs, and Terminal services is reporting: "Remote session from client name a exceeded the maximum allowed failed logon attempts. The session was forcibly terminated." Hundreds of times, every 10.5 seconds or so for a period of about 5-10 minutes, once at 2pm yesterday and once again at about 1am this morning. We CURRENTLY have RDP open to the outside, as I am just completing the setup and now and then I/Others need to jump on from an outside office/location (VPN isn't an option) As these are so regular, am I right in assuming that they may be the result of some sort of dictionary attack? or could something like an internal admin's hung session cause such a mass of events? (Win Server 2008 R2)

    I am trying to update a system using an HTTPS package mirror located here: https://mirror.ufs.ac.za/os/linux/distros/ubuntu/ubuntu/ However, during apt-get update, I get the following message: Packages server certificate verification failed. CAfile: /etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt CRLfile: none If you visit the site in your browser, you are warned about the site's certificate, but I trust the site, so it's not an issue for me. I assume I must be able to add this exception somewhere for apt to proceed. Can you tell me where and how?

  • MySQL prevents server from booting unless password is entered

The issue is that when we turn the server on or restart it we are required to enter the MySQL password before it will continue. Where can we script a password or disable this?   • Is there a single book that covers the breadth of computer science fundamentals? [closed]

    When I did my undergraduate studies in elecrical engineering, there was this book called "Basic Electricity" by Van Valkenburgh. If you read that book cover to cover, your fundamentals in electrical engineering would be bulletproof. I would recommend it all my juniors and I absolutely loved it. Is there such a book in the field of computer science? I am not so concerned about the algorithms. I am looking more into something that tells me how does everything work beneath the covers. TCPIP, memory management, DNS, routing, SSL, buffer, queuing etc.

  • My site will not process Credit Cards [closed]

    Authorized.net was processing my credit card purchases until the end of Feb. As of 3/1/2011 they no longer will process electronic cigarette transactions. Processing network told us we would have a seamless transition over to a processor called EPN. Now we can not process and credit card orders at all. I have been told it's an SSL concern (EPN says no) I have been told it's an issue between Authorized.net and EPN again I am told no. Might site worked and functioned fine until the "seamless" transition took place. Please help me out here. Thanks Dave

I was reading on OpenQA's site about a jar and importing the certificate, but that is only for Internet Explorer and Firefox should automatically be handled.     I'll admit, I am pretty new with ASP .NET programming and I have been asked to take all our gateway pages (written in classic ASP) and make one universal gateway page to the few C# .NET applications we have (that I wrote). I tried searching here and the web and couldn't find much of anything describing a great way to do this and figured I was either not searching properly or was not properly naming what I am trying to do. I decided to to take one of the main gateway pages we had in classic ASP and use that as a base for my new gateway. Without boring you with a bunch of code I will summarize my gateway in steps and then can take advice/critique from there. EDIT: Basically what I am trying to do is go from a classic ASP page to a ASP .NET page and then back again. EDIT2: If my question is still unclear I am asking if what I have an the right start and if anyone has suggestions as to how this could be better. It can be as generic as need-be, not looking for a specific off-the-shelf code answer.     Hey everyone! I'm using a Paypal add to cart button for a simple ecommerce website. I had a Paypal IPN handler written in PHP that was successfully working for 'Buy it Now' buttons and purchasing one item at a time. I would run a database query each time to update the store's inventory to reflect the purchase. Now I'm upgrading this store to a 'cart' version so people could check out with multiple items at a time.     I just installed Dynamics CRM 4.0. It is working nicely except for workflows. They won't start. I turned on tracing and it appears that there is an IO error. The server is setup with IFD and SSL. No issues accessing it internally or externally. It was blank. That didn't appear to work. After some more research, I think this might be caused because the Asynch service can't access the SDK web services using SSL. If this is correct, how would one configure a CRM server for secure access, internal and external (IFD) and still allow asynch service to hit web site? Thanks for your help!

    Any options out there? Google Static Maps with SSL (HTTPS) is only available to Premier members. Bing's Open Map API seems to have the same restricts. Any other ideas? I'm debating whether to schedule a cronjob to wget over http and dump the images I need into a folder (named after the content object IDs that reference them), but I'd rather find a free map API (or something less klugey) that supports HTTPS requests.

  • json problems with making a ruby on rails application

    So I'm using Bitnami to learn Ruby on Rails. I have also previously tried the manual installation for ruby and rails and was met by the same problem so I thought I should try first the easy package deal of Bitnami. Anyway my problem with json is that it causes the bundle install to fail. First the auto bundle install that rails new does fails because of an ssl error. Which is easily solved by changing the source in the gemfile which is https to http. However when I try to bundle install it does another error when it tries to install json.     I have a project in Visual Studio that I have been working on for a while, and I have used the debugger extensively. Recently I changed some settings and I have lost the ability to stop the program and step through code. I can't figure out what I had changed that might have affected this. If I put a breakpoint in my code and try to have the program stop there, it doesn't. The break point shows up white with a red outline. If I hover the mouse over it, it says "The breakpoint will not currently be hit. No executable code of the debugger's target code type is associated with this line. Possible causes include: conditional compilation, compiler optimizations, or the target architecture of this line is not supported by the current debugger code type." I know for a fact that the program executes the code where the breakpoint is because I put the breakpoint in the beginning of the InitializeComponent method. The program displays the window fine, but does not stop at the breakpoint. Yes, I am running in debug mode. It seems as though there is a disconnect between the compiled code and the source code displayed. Does anyone know what that would be, or know which compiler settings I should check to re-enable debugging?
