  I have created a pkg for my regular simple commands. They are non-static, to be more extensible, but somewhat more time-consuming to use because of creating object to use one. My other classes use them. $ ls *.java CpF.java IsBinary.java RmLn.java Tools.java F2S.java IsRoot.java SaveToDisk.java WordCount.java Filters.java ModRelativePaths.java SetWord.java WordNumber.java Find.java powerTools.java Sort.java Which option would you choose to use them easier? to develop a small interface like 'powerTools.java' for the pkg. to create a class with static methods for them. to add a static method to each class to stop overusing 'creating too many files' and centralising some? sthing else?

• Logging into oracle db as a global user

  We are trying to shape up an old, 2 tier, Delphi based application. It originally uses database authentication, we'd like to transform the db user accounts to global users, so an OID server could perform the authentication instead of the database. The Delphi program can no longer log into the database if the account is a global user. I'm trying to understand the login protocol, so far without results. Similar thing happens with SQLDeveloper, I can't connect as a global user. SQLPlus however works with both kinds of users. We checked the information flow with Wireshark. When the dbserver asks back for a password, the SQLPlus sends it, while the SQLDeveloper doesn't send a password when attempting to connect as a global user. The client sends the application name too in the login request. Is it possible that we have to store the client app name in the LDAP itself?

  I am not sure how to use StructureMap to scan for all repositories in a particular namespace. Most repositories take the form: namespace CPOP.Infrastructure.Repositories { public class PatientRepository : LinqRepository<Patient>, IPatientRepository { } } namespace CPOP.Infrastructure.Repositories { public class LinqRepository<T> : Repository<T>, ILinqRepository<T> { } } namespace CPOP.Domain.Contracts.Repositories { public interface IPatientRepository : ILinqRepository<Patient> { } } I tried: x.Scan(scanner => { scanner.Assembly(Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly()); scanner.ConnectImplementationsToTypesClosing(typeof(ILinqRepository<>)); }) But, it only picks up the LinqRepository class. What's the best way to pick up the various repositories I'll be dumping in there?

• GNU Smalltalk text interface hard to use

  I built GNU Smalltalk from source on my Mac because I couldn't get it working using fink and I found VMs like Squeak hard to understand. When I run the gst command it works fine, but unlike command line interfaces such the Python and Lua ones, it is hard to use because when I use the left or right arrow keys, I want the cursor to move left or right, but instead it inserts text like "^[[D". I understand why it does this but is there any way to fix it so it is more usable?

  I feel this should be very simple but my brain is short-circuiting on it. If I have an object representing the current user, and want to query for all users except the current user, how can I do this, taking into account that the current user can sometimes be nil? This is what I am doing right now: def index @users = User.all @users.delete current_user end What I don't like is that I am doing post-processing on the query result. Besides feeling a little wrong, I don't think this will work nicely if I convert the query over to be run with will_paginate. Any suggestions for how to do this with a query? Thanks.

  I have a Linux box and I want to be able to telnet into it (port 77557) and run few required commands without having to access to the whole Linux box. So, I have a server listening on that port, and echos the entered command on the screen. (for now) Telnet 192.168.1.100 77557 Trying 192.168.1.100... Connected to 192.168.1.100. Escape character is '^]'. hello<br /> You typed: "hello"<br /> NOW: I want to create lot of commands that each take some args and have error codes. Anyone has done this before? It would be great if I can have the server upon initialization go through each directory and execute the init.py file and in turn, the init.py file of each command call into a main template lib API (e.g. RegisterMe()) and register themselves with the server as function call backs. At least this is how I would do it in C/C++. But I want the best Pythonic way of doing this. /cmd/ /cmd/myreboot/ /cmd/myreboot/ini.py (note underscore don't show for some reason) /cmd/mylist/ /cmd/mylist/init.py ... etc IN: /cmd/myreboot/_ini_.py: from myMainCommand import RegisterMe RegisterMe(name="reboot",args=Arglist, usage="Use this to reboot the box", desc="blabla") So, repeating this creates a list of commands and when you enter the command in the telnet session, then the server goes through the list, matches the command and passed the args to that command and the command does the job and print the success or failure to stdout.   I have a pre-existing c++ object model which represents the business layer tier of an application. I want to be able to expose the object model to applications written in other languages i.e vbscript, VB, javascript etc. I believe the best way of doing this is to wrap the business objects with a COM layer. What fast and effective methods are there for doing this. Any advice, links to practical "How to" documentation would be very much appreciated. Because I'm starting a bounty on this , here's a few extra guidelines for potential bounty hunters :- 1)I've decided on an ATL approach 2)I'm now specifically looking for links to really good "how to and quickly" documentation on wrapping a pre-existing c++ object model to make it useable by a scripting language like javascript 3) Something with small working examples showing me what code needs to be added to what files, e.g what goes into the cpp , idl and hpp/h etc. It' must include an example I can compile test and change to get a better understanding.

• How to extract delegates from ViewController class?

  Hi I have the problem that my view controller class has too many delegates and starts to get big. I want to write the delegates in separate classes to keep the view controller class small. For delegates that are programmatically created (like UIAlertViewDelegate) I could do it easily. The problem is in the delegates assigned in Interface Builder. How can I tell the IB to assign, for example, another class as the UITableViewDelegate or UITableViewDataSource? Or how to choose another IBAction method for a Touch UP inside Event on a button? One solution would be to delete the connections from IB and write them programmatically at ViewDidLoad, but since I have a lot of ViewControllers, this would take a long time. any other ideas?

  In JBoss 4.2.3 the System property 'user.dir' is defined to be <JBoss-root>/bin when I ran the same application on JBoss 5.1 I noticed that it cannot find the System property user.dir why there is no default definition for version 5.1? and how can I define it manually? I followed this suggestion and added my property into properties-service.xml but it had no affect and still JBoss couldn't find the system:user.dir value.

  Most of the sites capture the date (e.g. birth date) information as either a single entity (i.e via a calendar control) or instead as separate fields (date, month, year). Are there any benefits in showing them as separate fields? Are they represented in the database as DATE data type or as separate fields. I am just trying to understand the pros & cons of representing the date field.

  I'm trying to secure an application so that users can only see objects which are assigned to them. I've got a custom QuerySet which works for this, but I'm trying to find a way to force the use of this additional functionality. Here is my Model: class Inquiry(models.Model): ts = models.DateTimeField(auto_now_add=True) assigned_to_user = models.ForeignKey(User, blank=True, null=True, related_name="assigned_inquiries") objects = CustomQuerySetManager() class QuerySet(QuerySet): def for_user(self, user): return self.filter(assigned_to_user=user) (The CustomQuerySetManager is documented over here, if it is important.) I'm trying to force everything to use this filtering, so that other methods will raise an exception. For example: Inquiry.objects.all() ## Should raise an exception. Inquiry.objects.filter(pk=69) ## Should raise an exception. Inquiry.objects.for_user(request.user).filter(pk=69) ## Should work. inqs = Inquiry.objects.for_user(request.user) ## Should work. inqs.filter(pk=69) ## Should work. It seems to me that there should be a way to force the security of these objects by allowing only certain users to access them. I am not concerned with how this might impact the admin interface.

  I have two NIB's ParentViewController.xib ChildViewController.xib ParentViewController.xib contains a UIView and a UIViewController. ChildViewController.xib contains a UIButton I want ChildViewController.xib to load in the ParentViewController.xib's UIView I have done the following: Created @property for UIView in ParentViewController Connected File's Owner to UIView in ParentViewController Set UIViewController in ParentViewController's NIB Name property to ChildViewController in Interface Builder Set ChildViewController view property to UIView in ParentViewController I was hoping this would load ChildViewController into my UIView in ParentViewController but no luck. I did get the following warning, which could be the culprit: 'View Controller (Child View)' has both its 'NIB Name' property set and its 'view' outlet connected. This configuration is not supported. I also have added additional code in ParentViewController's viewDidLoad(): - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; ChildViewController *childViewController = [[ChildViewController alloc]initWithNibName:@"ChildViewController" bundle:nil]; childViewController.view = self.myView; } Any thoughts on why ChildViewController does not load in the UIView of ParentViewController?

• Sort NSFetchedResultsController results by user location

  I have an application that contains some Locations in Core Data, and I want to show them to the user in order of proximity to the user's location. I am using an NSFetchedResultsController to serve the locations to the Table View. I thought about creating a virtual accessor method that returns the location's distance from the user, that would be calculated using a "global" CoreLocationManager, but it crashes with reason: Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: 'keypath distanceFromCurrentLocation not found in entity < NSSQLEntity Location id=4' I also give the user the option to sort alphabetically, so I would prefer it if I kept the NSFetchedResultsController, if possible. How should I do it? Thanks!

• Problem deriving a user control from an abstract base class in website project

  In a Visual Studio website, I have created a user control. This control is derived from a class (in App_Code) that is itself derived from System.Web.UI.UserControl. This is an abstract class with an abstract method. I then try to implement that method in the user control, but I get the following errors from Visual Studio: Error 1 'WebUserControl.AbstractMethod()': no suitable method found to override C:\Users\User\Documents\Visual Studio 2010\WebSites\Delme\WebUserControl.ascx.cs 10 28 C:\...\Delme\ Error 2 'WebUserControl' does not implement inherited abstract member 'AbstractBaseClass.AbstractMethod()' c:\Users\User\AppData\Local\Temp\Temporary ASP.NET Files\delme\0eebaa86\f1a48678\App_Web_nrsbzxex.0.cs 14 Error 1 says that my override of the abstract method is invalid, it doesn't recognise the abstract method in the base class. Error 2 says that the partial class automatically built by asp.net doesn't implement the abstract method! Note that this works fine when the code is used in a Web Application project. Why is this happening?

• Object Oriented Perl interface to read from and write to a socket

  I need a perl client-server implementation as a wrapper for a server in C#. A perl script passes the server address and port number and an input string to a module, this module has to create the socket and send the input string to the server. The data sent has to follow ISO-8859-1 encoding. On receiving the information, the client has to first receive 3 byte, then the next 8 bytes, this has the length of the data that has to be received next.. so based on the length the client has to read the next data. each of the data that is read has to be stored in a variable and sent another module for further processing.   This guide from apple https://developer.apple.com/iphone/prerelease/library/documentation/UserExperience/Conceptual/TableView_iPhone/TableViewCells/TableViewCells.html (you need login) explains how to use "The Technique for Static Row Content" to use Interface Builder to setup the cells in a tableview. I have some cells with different heights in my tableview. Without using the heightForRowAtIndexPath method everything get messed up. Do I still need to use this method or can I in some way setup the height of the cells inside the IB as I created them there? Also when using the "The Technique for Static Row Content" from the guide you still need to use the cellForRowAtIndexPath to setup the cells even if they are created in IB. I would like to setup the full layout of the tableview with all cells in IB (drag the cells right into the tableview), is that possible in some way? Thanks!

• IIS7 Itegrated Pipeline Mode: Context.User is intermittently null for Windows Auth

  Our code relies on checking the Context.User.Identity value in the Global.asax Application_AuthenticateRequest(...) method to retrieve some information about the logged in user. This works fine in classic mode but when I flip IIS to use the Integrated Pipeline "Context.User" comes back as null, but only intermittently. Any ideas why? I have < authentication mode="Windows" and only Windows Auth enabled in the Virtual Directory.
