• Proper usage (best practices) of Browsable attribute in .NET for runtime grid component behavior

  I understand how Browsable attribute is supposed to work. It's supposed to hide a property from showing up in a PropertyGrid in design time. It also has another effect in that it will stop a Property from showing up in components such as Grids, or specifically Infragistics WinGrid. I am not sure if it has this behaviour on regular Windows Forms grids. This works, but it doesn't sound like Browsable is being use as intended when being used for 'Run time' displaying of a property on a grid component. Any literature from Microsoft on proper use. Even though it works, I don't want to use this attribute to hide columns on a grid bound to a business object if it's not indeed the correct usage of the attribute, but rather something some grid vendors decided to use to determine property visibility on their grids.

I hardly follow any naming conventions... neither for variables.. nor for methods... nor for classes... nor for tables, columns, SPs... Further to this, I hardly comment anything while programming... • List getting cleared every button click inside Update Panel?

  No this isn't a copy of this question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/654423/button-in-update-panel-is-doing-a-full-postback I've got a drop down inside an update panel, and I am trying to get it to allow the person using the page to add users to a list that is bound to a gridview. The list is a global variable, and on page_load I set that to the gridview's datasource and databind it. However, anytime I click the 'add a user' button, or the button to remove the user from the list. It appears like it is doing a full post back even though all these elements are inside the update Panel. So if that's the case, why is it calling page_load everytime I click the buttons? I ran this code and debug and I see that even before any of the code associated with button press fires, page_load runs again. I tried putting the gvAssociatedUser.Datasource = associatedFaculty and the line below inside the Page.IsPostBack check, that prevented the page from working. I tried every combination of settings of the update panel for ChildrenAsTriggers and UpdateMode, and none of them worked. I know this is something simple, but all the combinations I've tried won't get it to work. How can I make this thing work? Edited: It wasn't causing a full postback so I was wrong as to the cause. I thought the page was doing a full post back thus resetting my associatedFaculty list global variable, but it isn't doing a full postback. The issue I am having is everytime I click btnAddUser it will add one element to the associatedFaculty list and thus bound to gvAssociatedusers. This works the first time, but the second time I click it, it overwrites the first element. So it appears like my associatedFaculty list is getting reset each time I click the button?

Does anyone know how I'm able to access that?   I need to perform lots of evaluations of the form X(:,i)' * A * X(:,i) i = 1...n where X(:,i) is a vector and A is a symmetric matrix. Ostensibly, I can either do this in a loop for i=1:n z(i) = X(:,i)' * A * X(:,i) end which is slow, or vectorise it as z = diag(X' * A * X) which wastes RAM unacceptably when X has a lot of columns. Currently I am compromising on Y = A * X for i=1:n z(i) = Y(:,i)' * X(:,i) end which is a little faster/lighter but still seems unsatisfactory. I was hoping there might be some matlab/scilab idiom or trick to achieve this result more efficiently?

But I need to make additional convertion (needed to work correctly with legacy apps): for all dates we need to change timezone to UTC and set time to 12:00 PM. So now dates are stored in local database (New York) timezone. I need to convert them this way 25/12/2009 09:12 AM (local timezone) in date column = 25/12/2009 12:00 PM UTC timestamp with local timezone column. Could you advice, how to set timezone for date value in Oracle (I found only suggestions how to convert from one timezone to another) (for example in Java there is setTimeZone method for Calendar objects). We want to make a convertion this way: rename old date column to NAME_BAK create new column timestamp with local timezone iterate over old column for not-null values set timezone to UTC, time to 12:00 PM drop old column after testing of this migration

  Isn't that nicely recursive? I've got a portable command prompt on my external drive, and it has a nice .bat file to configure some initial settings, but I'd like more! Here's what I know how to set from .bat: Colors = (color XY) where x and y are hex digits for the predefined colors Prompt = (prompt $p$g) sets the prompt to "C:\etc\etc " the default prompt Title = (title "text") sets the window title to "text" Screen Size = (mode con: cols=XX lines=YY) sets the columns and lines size of the window Path = (SET PATH=%~d0\bin;%PATH%) sets up local path to my tools and appends the computer's path So that's all great. But there are a few settings I can't seem to set from the bat. I tried different values for format (mm,%m) but all these gives the same output.

• IE7 Jquery UI Sortable problem

  Hey guys, I'm using Jquery UI sortable in my current project to make boxes drag and drop-able into new columns. It works in all modern browsers apart from ie7, in which you can drag and drop, but when you drop, it completely ruins the content of the box you're dropping. • HTML Table <thead> Position Fixed

  Variations of this question have been answered, but none of which dealing with my issue. I don't know if this can be achieved or not but I thought if anyone knew they would know on here. I have a table with a thead and one row with many columns. I want the thead to remain fixed (the row is extremely long) however when the thead is fixed, it gets cut off at the end of the browser. Is there a way I can keep it fixed but when you scroll horozontally for the entire page you can see the rest of the thead?

• Why isn't "String or Binary data would be truncated" a more descriptive error?

  To start: I understand what this error means - I'm not attempting to resolve an instance of it. This error is notoriously difficult to troubleshoot, because if you get it inserting a million rows into a table 100 columns wide, there's virtually no way to determine what column of what row is causing the error - you have to modify your process to insert one row at a time, and then see which one fails. That's a pain, to put it mildly. Is there any reason that the error doesn't look more like this? String or Binary data would be truncated Error inserting value "Some 18 char value" into SomeTable.SomeColumn VARCHAR(10) That would make it a lot easier to find and correct the value, if not the table structure itself. If seeing the table data is a security concern, then maybe something generic, like giving the length of the attempted value and the name of the failing column?

• ManyToMany Relation does not create the primary key

  Hello, I have a ManyToMany relationship between two classes: ClassA and ClassB, but when the table for this relationship (table called objectA_objectB) there is no primary key on it. In my ClassA I have the following: @ManyToMany(fetch=FetchType.LAZY) @OrderBy(value="name") @JoinTable(name="objectA_objectB", joinColumns= @JoinColumn(name="idObjectA", referencedColumnName="id"), inverseJoinColumns= @JoinColumn(name="idObjectB", referencedColumnName="id") ) private List<ClassB> objectsB; and in my ClassB I have the reversed relation @ManyToMany List<ClassA> objectsA; I just want to make a primary key of both id's but I need to change the name of the columns as I do. Why is the PK missing? How can I define it? I use JPA 2.0 Hibernate implementation, if this helps. Thanks.

• PyQt: How to keep QTreeView nodes correctly expanded after a sort

  I'm writing a simple test program using QTreeModel and QTreeView for a more complex project later on. In this simple program, I have data in groups which may be contracted or expanded, as one would expect in a QTreeView. The data may also be sorted by the various data columns (QTreeView.setSortingEnabled is True). Each tree item is a list of data, so the sort function implemented in the TreeModel class uses the built-in python list sort: self.layoutAboutToBeChanged.emit() self.rootItem.childItems.sort(key=lambda x: x.itemData[col], reverse=order) for item in self.rootItem.childItems: item.childItems.sort(key=lambda x: x.itemData[col], reverse=order) self.layoutChanged.emit() The problem is that whenever I change the sorting of the root's child items (the tree is only 2 levels deep, so this is the only level with children) the nodes aren't necessarily expanded as they were before. If I change the sorting back without expanding or collapsing anything, the nodes are expanded as before the sorting change. Can anyone explain to me what I'm doing wrong? I suspect it's something with not properly reassigning QModelIndex with the sorted nodes, but I'm not sure.

  I want to split a large table horizontally, and I would like to make sure that all three of them have the same schema. I can use: statement .executeUpdate("CREATE TABLE AnnotationsBiologicalProcess AS SELECT * FROM AnnotationsMolecularFunction"); to create the other tables with the same columns, but the constraints are not aplied. I could of course just generate the same query-string three times with different table-names in Java, but I would like to know if there is an SQL-way of achieving this.

• Transpose a Collection

  Hello, I've a list of different sizes of a T-Shirt, e.g. S, M, L. Since this might change for T-Shirts (sometimes we just have e.g. M, L), we load this into a List sizes. Since most DataGrids (xamDataGrid, WPF Toolkit DataGrid) need Properties for binding to the Columns, I'd like to transpose somehow my data. Does anyone have an idea how to do this? E.g. Instead of having List where Size { string sizeName, int available, int defect, int ordered} Avail. Defect Ordered [S] 1 2 3 [M] 1 2 3 [L] 1 2 3 I want an Object which has the Properties S, M, L containing the Values like this: [S] [M] [L] Avail. 1 2 3 Defect 1 2 3 Ordered 1 2 3 The problem here is that I don't know how many sizes will be available for the tshirt, it might be 3, 4, or 10. Note : 'code_summary_id' is define as column in code_set_detail table, and define as primary key in code_summary table. To sum-up, I would like define 'code_summary_id' as primary key in code_summary table, and map 'code_summary_id' in code_set_detail table. How to define a primary key in a table, and also map this key to another table ?

  Below is a partial table row that will create a line row of 3 columns. Two columns in each side is links, left is previous year and right is next year links. Center is links for january thru december. When you click a month links, the calendar will show that month you've clicked in the current year the calendar is on. For example, the calendar will open current month and year by default...March 2010.
