• Any tool available to detect what's not HTTPS on an encrypted page?

  More often than I like when designers edit some of our sites' pages, they include javascript or an external image our SSL pages that are not encrypted. For example if we have a page like this: https://www.example.com/cart/EnterCreditCard And the designer includes some non-encrypted image like this: <img src='http://www.cardprocessor.com/logo.gif' /> Of course, this creates errors in all browsers: IE: Do you want to view only the webpage content that was delivered securely? Firefox: Connection Partially Encrypted Chrome: (I forget this message) What I'm looking for is a tool or plugin that lets me easily see what objects are not encrypted. A firefox extension or something along those lines would be great.

• asp.net MVC - how to get complete local and global resources

  I'm localizing application and need to provide JSON representation of local and global resources for JS part of application for all views. My current idea is I'd implement HtmlHelper extension methods like GetLocalResourcesJSON/GetGlobalResourcesJSON which should encode all resource keys+values and return them JSON encoded as string (I'd implement caching as well). At the moment I'm able to retrieve single specific key from global or local resource belonging to current view (using httpContext.GetGlobalResourceObject/GetLocalResourceObject), but I'm not able to find out how to retrieve whole resource object and iterate all its keys+values. Is there any method how to achieve this? it looks like ResourceProviderFactory could be the the key to this problem, but it's not accessible publicly anywhere. I could instantiate ResourceExpressionBuilder and use reflection to retrieve the provider using GetLocal/GlobalResourceProvider() methods, but I don't like using reflection here at all...

  Hi, I've got a Customer object with a Collection of CustomerContacts IEnumerable Contacts { get; set; } In some other code I'm using Reflection and have the PropertyInfo of Contacts property var contacts = propertyInfo.GetValue(customerObject, null); I know contacts has at least one object in it, but how do I get it out? I don't want to Cast it to IEnumerable because I want to keep my reflection method dynamic. I thought about calling FirstOrDefault() by reflection - but can't do that easily because its an extension method. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks

  I have an application that has a UITabBarController with two tabs, each having its own navigation controller. Now I want to store the state of the application when the user closes it, so that when the user relauches the application will show the same place as the last time before it was closed. So, in applicationWillTerminate: I have [NSKeyedArchiver archiveRootObject:tabBarController toFile:@"lastVisitedTab"]; Then, in applicationDidFinishLaunching: I have UITabBarController *last= (UITabBarController *)[NSKeyedUnarchiver unarchiveObjectWithFile:@"lastVisitedTab"]; if (last) tabBarController = [last retain]; I also have an extension to UIImage to make it compliant to NSCoding. However, this doesn't work, as the state is not preserved. The first tab gets selected all the time, and no navigation is preserved either. Can someone tell me what's wrong, or show me how to do it correctly?

  Operating system: Mac OS 10.6.2 I'd like to be able to see colour output when piping certain commands through less. Two examples: I've got ls aliased to ls --color=auto, so I'd like to be able to see colour when I do this: ls -l | less I've also got the color extension turned on in Mercurial, so I'd like to see colour output from: hg diff | less and hg st | less After some googling, it seems like some versions of less support either -r or -R to make this work, but no dice for me. I can't see anything in the man page that looks like what I need. (-r or -R SEEM to be the right options, but again, they don't seem to work)

• Evaluating php generated javascript "inline"?

  If you look at the source of this page http://kingston.talking-newspapers.co.uk/ you will see a large amount of inline javascript near the top. I don't really want all this extra stuff floating around in my page source, I'd much rather get it off into a script tag, and then I can minify it and all sorts. If I call it as a php file, this SHOULD work in theory, I just end the js file extension with php instead, and in the header I put the following: header("Content-type:application/x-javascript"); but... a lot of the php variables used to generate the playlist within the javascript are setup at the beginning of the main index.php file, and in calling this php-generated js playlist file like this, it seems to evaluate it entirely separately, so it's full of errors. The only way round it I can think of is to have the page write a file, then immediately read it in. The other thing is, the playlist is likely to change often and dynamically, so I think I need to get minify to NOT cache it?

• Passing empty list as parameter to JPA query throws error

  If I pass an empty list into a JPA query, I get an error. For example: List<Municipality> municipalities = myDao.findAll(); // returns empty list em.createQuery("SELECT p FROM Profile p JOIN p.municipality m WHERE m IN (:municipalities)") .setParameter("municipalities", municipalities) .getResultList(); Because the list is empty, Hibernate generates this in SQL as "IN ()", which gives me error with Hypersonic database. There is a ticket for this in Hibernate issue tracking but there are not many comments/activity there. I don't know about support in other ORM products or in JPA spec either. I don't like the idea of having to manually check for null objects and empty lists every time. Is there some commonly known approach/extension to this? How do you handle these situations?

• Webservice won't accept JSON requests

  Hi, The main issue is that I cannot run a webservice that accepts requests in JSON format. I keep getting a 500 Server error stating that the "request format is invalid." My ASP.NET AJAX extensions are installed. My server is running Plesk Control Panel 8.6 which is undoubtedly causing these problems. The default handler for this specified extension is shown in the web.config like so: For my applications webservice to handle JSON it needs to have this reference: <add name="ScriptHandlerFactory" verb="*" path="*.asmx" preCondition="integratedMode" type="System.Web.Script.Services.ScriptHandlerFactory, System.Web.Extensions, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35"/> Plesk is not allowing the request to be handled properly. I need to know the correct http directive(s) to put into the web.config to properly handle JSON webservices. I tried posting to the Plesk forum two days ago but no response yet. Any insight would be great =)

• WinForms: How do I simulate button behavior on an image?

  I have an extension of the winforms TabControl, it's draws an X on each tab to allow the user to close the tab. How can I similate button look&feel on that image? It's not a button, it's not even an image control. It's just been drawn there. Is there a way to draw an inset border on MouseDown and Raised on MouseUp? Would I be better off generating another image, for the "inset" phase? anyone done this before?   Recently there is a lot of projects that pushes Javascript into other directions: as a general purpose scripting language (GLUEScript, Rhino), as an extension language (QTScript, Adobe Reader, OO Macros), Widgets (Yahoo Widgets, MS Gadgets, Dashboard), and even server-side JS & web frameworks (CommonJS, Helma, Phobos, V8cgi), which seems obvious since it is already a language widely used for web development. But wait, everything is so new and nothing is really mature. However JS is around for almost 15 years, being as powerfull as any other scripting languages, being standardised by the ECMA, and being a mandatory technology for web development. Why did it take so much time to gain acceptance into other domains than web browsers?

• Renaming and Moving Files in Bash or Perl

  HI, I'm completely new to Bash and StackOverflow. I need to move a set of files (all contained in the same folder) to a target folder where files with the same name could already exist. In case a specific file exists, I need to rename the file before moving it, by appending for example an incremental integer to the file name. The extensions should be preserved (in other words, that appended incremental integer should go before the extension). The file names could contain dots in the middle. Originally, I was thinking about comparing the two folders to have a list of the existing files (I did this with "comm"), but then I got a bit stuck. I think I'm just trying to do things in the most complicated possible way. Any hint to do this in the "bash way"? It's OK if it is done in a script other than bash script.

  hi I have a joomla project. In this the text editor is tiny mace. But there is no option to upload a pdf file. So I want to implement Ck editor or fck editor instead of tiny mce. I have downloaded ck editor and install as usual way (admin side -extension-install- uninstall section) and disabled the tiny mce in Plugin Manager. A quick search of stack-overflow told me I need to use something called a background worker. I have read a few pages on the net about this but find it really hard to understand as I'm pretty new to programming. • How to install ferret gem on Windows 7 ?

  Hi, I was trying to run an OpenSource project which requires ferret to be installed. While installing it using gem install ferret, it's giving this error - Building native extensions. This could take a while... ERROR: Error installing ferret: ERROR: Failed to build gem native extension. C:/Ruby/bin/ruby.exe extconf.rb creating Makefile nmake 'nmake' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. Gem files will remain installed in C:/Ruby/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/ferret-0.11.6 for inspection. Results logged to C:/Ruby/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/ferret-0.11.6/ext/gem_make.out So, I tried installing nmake (nmake15.exe), but the one I could find. It does not installs on Windows 7.Please help. • Is OO design's strength in semantics or encapsulation?

  Object-oriented design (OOD) combines data and its methods. This, as far as I can see, achieves two great things: it provides encapsulation (so I don't care what data there is, only how I get values I want) and semantics (it relates the data together with names, and its methods consistently use the data as originally intended). So where does OOD's strength lie? In constrast, functional programming attributes the richness to the verbs rather than the nouns, and so both encapsulation and semantics are provided by the methods rather than the data structures. I work with a system that is on the functional end of the spectrum, and continually long for the semantics and encapsulation of OO. But I can see that OO's encapsulation can be a barrier to flexible extension of an object. So at the moment, I can see the semantics as a greater strength. Or is encapsulation the key to all worthwhile code?

  I'm planning on creating a C# Windows Forms app as an extension for a third-party Win32 application but I'm stumped as to how to do this right now. The farthest I've gotten is knowing it involves Win32 Hooking and that there's this open source project called EasyHook that's supposed to allow me to do this. I'd like to know how I can get the text from a textbox or some other data from a control in a third-party Win32 application. The text/data in a control is to be captured from the external application's running window the moment the user presses a button. I guess the question can be summed up as follows: How do you determine the event to hook to when the user clicks a certain button? How do you get the value displayed by a Win32 control at the time the button is clicked?

• Adding barcodes to pdfs

  is there any way to do something like a mail merge, where the data (9-15 chars long) is converted to a barcode? im using trying to use openoffice's code128 for calc, but for some reason, every 10 strings, the barcode goes crazy, and the ascii tells me to register at the site where the extension came from, which i dont want to do i also found one for oodraw, but that requires the values to be inputted manually. since im not familiar with the macros, i can't write something that will do it automatically what im trying to do is: take an old pdf (only 1 page) covert it to word or picture or something add a function/macro/whatever to show a barcode (whether or not the barcode shows in this file, i dont care), given a string from excel data reconvert to separate pdfs or some other way that adds barcodes to pdfs all other free programs i have found do not do this nicely, and since im not really a pdf person, im not going to buy random programs. i just need this done for one large batch of data

I downloaded release for mvc 1, i have dll on my hard drive, i added a reference to my project, but i always getting following error: 'System.Web.Mvc.HtmlHelper' does not contain a definition for 'Grid' and no extension method 'Grid' accepting a first argument of type 'System.Web.Mvc.HtmlHelper' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?) I am using Visual Web Developer 2008 if this is important The question is: how correctly add this to my project? Can you give me step by step instruction? Thanks

• PHPMailer, fsockopen(), possible Apache issue?

  I'm using PHPMailer to send out site contacts. In development, the script works perfectly with the GMail service over smtp. However, in production, inside the client's DMZ, it appears unable to connect to the SMTP service they have there. I have connected to the same service using telnet to port 25, so I know for sure it exists and is available to the server. Are there any circumstances where php might not be able to open a socket connection (fsockopen)...? The php extension openssl is loaded and ok. The error is "Unable to connect to SMTP service". • Browser for cross-site-script testing (for testing Mozilla Add-On)

  I am working on a Firefox extension that will involve ajax calls to domains that would normally fail due to the same-origin policy set by Firefox (and most modern browsers). I was wondering if there is a way to either turn off the same-origin restriction (in about:config, perhaps) or if there was a standard lite-browser that developers turn to for this. I really would like to avoid using any blackhat tools, if possible. Not because I'm against them, I just don't want to add another learning curve to the process. I can use curl in PHP to confirm that the requests work, but I want to get started on writing the js that the addon will actually use, so I need a client that will execute js. I also tried spidermonkey, but since I'm doing the ajax with jquery, it threw a fit at all of the browser-based default variables. So, short version: is there a reliable browser/client for cross site scripting that isn't primarily a hacker app? Or can I just turn off same-domain policy in Firefox?
