  • Access Google Apps Global Address List from Thunderbird

    We're considering using Google Apps as groupware, with our Mac and Linux users (and likely a few of the Windows users as well) accessing mail and calendar using Thunderbird with Lightning. We seem to have worked out most features, but have not found a way to access Global Address List. Is there a way to sync the Global Address List to Thunderbird? Update: The Zindus addon as suggested by @superuser, does not have support for Global Address List from Google Apps (it does however support GAL from a Zimbra server)

Sometimes the documents are password protected and I need to obtain access to a Windows machine with Office installed in order to read them. Is there a quicker / less hassle requiring method ? I don't want to have to install Vmware / Parallels nor Office on my fresh and sterile macbook.

    Is it possible to edit contents of e-mail messages (including headers) in any mailbox stored on Exchange Server (Exchange Server 2010 SP3 UR2 - 14.3.158.1)? Or, alternatively, edit the email messages in the OST file (of MS Outlook), so that they then can be synchronized with the Exchange server? PS.     I am running Ubuntu Server 9.10 with ProFTPD, and I also have Webmin. I have DNS setup for 3 domains, mail setup for 3 domains, as well as Apache2 setup for those domains. They work great. Now I want to give FTP access for an incoming user, but point them to /var/www/[domain] and have them come in as something like user "ftpuser" but want this to translate to user "www-data" so that web permissions will be correct. What is the technique to do this?

    I am currently using IIS 6 SMTP to send out some of our mail and I unfortunately amn't finding the logging performed by it to be verbose enough - nor am I able to customise it to the level I would find verbose enough. I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a piece of third-party SMTP software which would allow for customisability of the logging down to the point where I can inject in my own columns or perform regular expressions on the outgoing message data or headers.

He supplies as 'Login:' his student index number and a new, locked account is created with random password that is sent to his [email protected] mail as authentication method. After he logs in with this password, account is fully created and activated/unlocked and the user is asked/forced to change the pass for a new one.

    I like to tag my emails in Mozilla Thunderbird 10.0.2, but the tagging system that is built in just isn't sufficient, I want to use something a little closer to the suggest tag system that is built into Stackexchange, where existing tags will display as I type them, and they will be separated using some sort of delimiter (such as a space or a comma). Does anyone know of any mail tagging plugins like that?

    When I have to choose my DNS I think that I should consider: Speed Reliability Privacy Control (reports and stats) The main options that come to my mind, and how I weigh them according to the above factors, are: My ISP = faster (closer to me) but less privacy (they can associate my DNS requests to myself) OpenDNS and such = more control and more privacy (all they have is one of my e-mail addresses) Google = less privacy (they can associate my DNS requests to my Google Account and my searches) What weighting factors, or other options, have I missed?

    XP is my host. Ubuntu is my Guest in VMware. When I do the following commands, I should get SMTP respones but now get no response. I use wireshark to analayze it.
