• Arrays of pointers to arrays?

  I'm using a library which for one certain feature involves variables like so: extern const u8 foo[]; extern const u8 bar[]; I am not allowed to rename these variables in any way. However, I like to be able to access these variables through an array (or other similar method) so that I do not need to continually hardcode new instances of these variables into my main code. My first attempt at creating an array is as follows: const u8* pl[] = { &foo, &bar }; This gave me the error cannot convert 'const u8 (*)[]' to 'const u8*' in initialization, and with help elsewhere along with some Googling, I changed my array to this: u8 (*pl)[] = { &foo, &bar }; Upon compiling I now get the error scalar object 'pl' requires one element in initializer. Does anyone have any ideas on what I'm doing wrong? Thanks.

• Flex: Prevent scrollbar from covering content when automatically displayed.

  I have a canvas in Flex that shall be able only to be scrolled in vertical direction, so I set the attributes of the canvas as follows: verticalScrollPolicy="auto" horizontalScrollPolicy="off" The problem here is that the vertical scrollbar covers the content when it appears - altough there is enough horizontal room left. I would have expected that the content size would have been automatically adjusted. When setting the vertical scroll policy to "on", no content is covered also. In case I set both scroll policies to 'auto' I also get a horizontal scroll bar just for scrolling to the area that is covered by the vertical scroll bar. Is there a workaround how I can relayout the content of the canvas when the vertical scroll bar is shown so that it does not cover any content?

  I can't figure this out. I need to extract the second level domain from a FQDN. • Cache for everybody except staff members.

  I have a django site where I want to stick an "admin bar" along the top of every non-admin page for staff members. It would contain useful things like page editing tools, etc. The problem comes from me using the @cache_page decorator on lots of pages. If a normal user hits a page, the cached version comes up without the admin bar (even for admin users) and if an admin hits the page first, normal users see the admin bar. I could tediously step through the templates, adding regional cache blocks but there are a lot of templates, and life is altogether too short. Ideally, there would be a way of telling the caching to ignore cache get/set requests from admin users... But I don't know how to best implement that. How would you tackle this problem?

• How to prevent Windows XP from stealing my input Ctrl-Space which is meant for Emacs

  I am learning and using Emacs. What I found annoying is that Ctrl-Space input will be stolen by Windows XP to switch the language bar instead of setting the mark in Emacs. The "language bar" is the native input languages selection such as Chinese keyboard other than English keyboard. Is there a way to temporarily prevent XP from stealing it? I have disabled the language bar from "Regional and language options" from Control Panel but the problem still exists. It doesn't happen on my Windows 2000 desktop at office but it happens on my work Windows XP laptop. Thank you very much.

There is a quantity field(nonmodel) where the user can enter the quantity While adding a new product if the user enters: type: soda quantity: 3 Then there 3 records should be created in product model with type= soda like the following. id type 2 soda 3 soda 4 soda If user enters location: aisle4 quantity: 2 Then id location 5 ailse4 6 ailse4 Can you tell me how to pass the nonmodel field 'quantity' to the rails(model or controller) and how use it to add the products in groups as mentioned above? or should I create a column called quantity in my product table? Will the history be updated too for all these new records with after_create filter which I already have ? Is there any good tutorial or book which shows how to pass such nonmodel html/javascript fields from view to rails and then back to the view? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

• Saving a "project"-type document (containing sub-documents)

  I'm trying to create a "project"-like document, in that it contains subdocuments in a specified directory. I'd like a brand new save of a document to set up that directory with appropriate subdirectories. I'd like a "Save As" to copy all those subdirectories and any files within them to the new location. But I'd like a "Save" to only update certain data files and (of course) not overwrite all the subdocuments! What's the "safe" way to do this? I tried keeping track of the file's location in my document, and checking to see if it was the same or different than the save location, but it feels messy, and I'm worried that Apple is doing something behind the scenes that will make this direct URL-to-URL comparison fail in some circumstances. Is there a standard way to do something like this?

  Let's say I have a first structure like this: typedef struct { int ivalue; char cvalue; } Foo; And a second one: typedef struct { int ivalue; char cvalue; unsigned char some_data_block[0xFF]; } Bar; Now let's say I do the following: Foo *pfoo; Bar *pbar; pbar = new Bar; pfoo = (Foo *)pbar; delete pfoo; Now, when I call the delete operator, how much memory does it free? sizeof(int) + sizeof(char) Or sizeof(int) + sizeof(char) + sizeof(char) * 0xFF ? And if it's the first case due to the casting, is there any way to prevent this memory leak from happening? Note: please don't answer "use C++ polymorphism" or similar, I am using this method for a reason.

• Tomcat blankpage for default error page

  First off, I'm using Tomcat 5.5 and my .jsp's live in /webapps/foo/bar/*.jsp. I followed the directions here to set up a default 404 error page. In my TOMCAT_HOME/conf/web.xml I entered: <error-page> <error-code>404</error-code> <location>/error.html</location> </error-page> I dropped copies of a test error.html file into each of the dirs (I wasn't sure where /error.html was referring to): /webapps/ /webapps/foo/ /webapps/foo/bar/ Whenever I attempt to access a non-existent page in a browser at url's /foo/missingpage.html or /foo/bar/missingpage.html I'm redirected to my error page that exists in /foo/error.html. However, attempting to access a non-existent page in a browser at url /missingpage.html yields a blankpage. Or any permutation of /missingDir/missingfile.html will also yield a blank page. Any suggestions? Am I missing some extra configuration? Thanks PR

• best practice to obtain time zone for iPhone vs iPod Touch

  I am creating an app that requires the users current time zone. If the device being used is an iPhone and the user has their Time Zone set to automatically change, I think I can be fairly confident that localTimeZone or systemTimezone will give me the correct time zone for the user's location. If on the other hand the device is an iPod Touch, the time zone returned by localTimeZone and systemTimeZone appears to always be whatever time zone is set in the Date & Time settings, regardless of the user's actual location. I tried using location services but, while the lat/long is being provided properly, the time zone offset in the timesStamp I am getting is always the same as whatever the user has set for their time zone setting. Any suggestions? John

  This may be a stupid question, but I have to ask! I have the following code snippets that are supposed to run their corresponding methods when the user interacts with objects. For some reason, "foo" is never printed, but "bar" is. myJSpinner1.addMouseListener(new java.awt.event.MouseAdapter() { public void mouseEntered(java.awt.event.MouseEvent evt() { System.out.println("foo"); //"foo" is not printed } }); myJSpinner2.addChangeListener(new java.awt.event.ChangeListener() { public void stateChanged(java.awt.event.ChangeEvent evt() { System.out.println("bar"); //"bar" is printed } }); I get no exceptions or stack trace.   dears, when try to publish my mroject I get this error: Error 3 Task failed because "AL.exe" was not found, or the correct Microsoft Windows SDK is not installed. The task is looking for "AL.exe" in the "bin" subdirectory beneath the location specified in the InstallationFolder value of the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v6.0A. You may be able to solve the problem by doing one of the following: 1) Install the Microsoft Windows SDK for Windows Server 2008 and .NET Framework 3.5. 2) Install Visual Studio 2008. 3) Manually set the above registry key to the correct location. 4) Pass the correct location into the "ToolPath" parameter of the task.

In the event the script stops, I need it to pick up where it left off. • Classic ASP, ASP.NET, IFrames and response.redirect issue....

  A client has an asp page with an iframe. The Iframe loads an asp.net page inside the asp classic page. The ASP.NET page is responsible for connecting to a webservice, displaying some data, and then when the user clicks a button it does a response.redirect another classic asp page. Since the asp.net page is in an iframe, the asp page loads inside the iframe when ideally it should be taking over the entire page. I have tried putting javascript in the final asp page to break out of iframes but it does not seem to fire. I tried doing onClientCLick() on the asp.net page and making it break out of the iframe using the following javascript top.location = self.location.href But since that sets the location it seems to refresh the page , breaks out of the iframe but does not fire the serverside onclick event which would then perform the backend calculations and do response.redirect. Any ideas on how I can make sure that the final asp page does not appear inside the iframe and breaks out of it ?

  I have an UIImageView that is a subview of an UIView. I'm trying to create a drag rotate effect with the UIImageView similar to spinning a bottle but I'm having trouble calculating the radians to rotate the image by.   Why do Windows programs parse command-line switches out of their executable's path? (The latter being what is commonly known as argv[0].) For example, xcopy: C:\Temp\foo>c:/windows/system32/xcopy.exe /f /r /i /d /y * ..\bar\ Invalid number of parameters C:\Temp\foo>c:\windows\system32\xcopy.exe /f /r /i /d /y * ..\bar\ C:\Temp\foo\blah -> C:\Temp\bar\blah 1 File(s) copied What behavior should I follow in my own programs? Are there many users that expect to type command-line switches without a space (e.g. program/? instead of program /?), and should I try to support this, or should I just report an error and exit immediately? What other caveats do I need to be aware of? (In addition to Anon.'s comment below that "debug/program" runs debug.exe from PATH even if "debug\program.exe" exists.)

  Hi, The Problem: I would like to sort my posts based on custom fields, when the user clicks on a link. I don't know if there is a parameter that can be passed via url to reorder posts. Comparison: I would like it to work similar to how you can sort songs in iTunes. The user simply clicks the "Artist" button and the songs are reorder alphabetically by artist's name. Example: The custom field could be the location where I was when I wrote the post. "Location = home" or "Location = office" etc. When the user click a links the page is reload with the posts reordered. Posts from home before ones from the office. Thanks for the help.

  Hi all, I'm a bit new to using emacs for webdevelopment. I am using php-mode and i am happy with it. There is only one issue i have which causes me a lot of problems because of our company's coding style. When i have a function, e.g.: $instance = new Model('foo', 'bar'); And I want to indent it like this: $instance = new Model( 'foo', 'bar' ); Emacs does the following when i insert a newline before the first argument and indents it like this: $instance = new Model( 'foo', 'bar' ); Can anyone point me in a direction on how i can configure/change this?   I have a Java class like this: public class Foo { public static int counter = 0; public void bar(int counter) { Foo.counter = counter; } } FindBugs warns me about writing to the static field counter via the instance method bar. However, if I change the code to: public class Foo { public static int counter = 0; public static void setCounter(int counter) { Foo.counter = counter; } public void bar(int counter) { setCounter(counter); } } Then FindBugs won't complain. Isn't that wrong? I'm still writing to a static field from an instance method, just via a static method - no?

  Let's say I have the MSP430 assembly segment below: r15: 439c Memory map: 4390: 6045 0200 9c43 6400 8844 5044 363a 0000 Code: 448a: cmp #0x363a, 0x0(r15) 4490: jnz $+0x1c 4492: Code continues . . . 44ac: Jump to location The goal is to have the Z flag high. To do this with a cmp, both src and dst must be equal. If I have 363a in the memory location of r15, why is it that the resulting cmp does not trigger the Z flag? Through experimentation, I found that putting 3a36 in the memory location of r15 did in fact trigger the Z flag, but I don't understand why. If anyone could bring this to light, I would greatly appreciate it. If more information is needed, I will gladly provide it.

  Hello, I just started to use the PHP symfony framework. Currently I'm trying to create fixture files in YAML to easily insert data into my MySQL database. Now my database has a couple of relations, I have the tables Organisation and Location. Organisation org_id (PK) org_name Location loc_id (PK) org_id (FK) loc_name Now I'm trying too link these tables in my fixture file, but for the life of me I cannot figure out how. Since the org_id is auto-incremented I can't simply use org_id: 1 In the location fixture. How can I fix this?

  I'm writing a script to ssh in to a list of machines and compare a variable to another value.. I've run into a problem (I have a couple workarounds, but at this point I'm just wondering why this method isn't working). VAR=ssh $i "awk -F: '/^bar/ {print \$2}' /local/foo.txt" ($i would be a hostname. The hosts are trusted, no password prompt is given) Example of foo.txt: foo:123456:abcdef bar:789012:ghijkl baz:345678:mnopqr I'm assuming it's a problem with quotes, or \'s needed somewhere. I've tried several methods (different quoting, using $() instead of ``, etc) but can't seem to get it right. My script is working correctly using the following: VAR=ssh $i "grep bar /local/foo.txt" | awk -F: '{print \$2}' Like I said, just a curiousity, any response is appreciated.

• How to refresh an activity? Map View refresh fails

  Hi Guys, after implementing some Android Apps, including several Map activities, I try to refresh the activity when the GPS listener's onLocationChanged() mehtod is called. I have no idea how to tell the map activity to refresh on its own and display the new coords... the coords to store will have to be in global values, so that the location listener will have access to it. In my sample GPS-class (see code below) I just changed the text of a text view....but how to do that in map view? private class MyLocationListener implements LocationListener { @Override public void onLocationChanged(Location loc) { final TextView tv = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.myTextView); if (loc != null) { tv.setText("Location changed : Lat: " + loc.getLatitude() + " Lng: " + loc.getLongitude()); } } I think the solution of this Problem won't be very difficult, but I just need the beginning ;-) This whole app shall work like a really simple navigation system.
