  • Why does php show error for my SQL query

    - by ZincX
    UPDATE: My mistake - I made a typo. Nevermind this question. I'm using php to update a mysql database. The resultant query I'm using when i print it out on my webpage before executing is as follows: INSERT INTO perch2_content_items (itemOrder, regionID, pageID, itemRev, itemID, itemJSON, itemSearch ) SELECT MAX(itemOrder)+1, 105, 81, 11, 118, 'json', 'search' FROM perch2_content_items WHERE regionID=105 When I copy and paste this query directly into the phpmyadmin SQL interface, it works fine. The table gets updated. However, when I try to execute it using my php code as follows, it throws an error. $insertToPerch = "INSERT INTO perch2_content_items (itemOrder, regionID, pageID, itemRev, itemID, itemJSON, itemSearch ) SELECT MAX(itemOrder)+1, $regionID, $pageID, $regionRev, $newItemID, 'json', 'search' FROM perch2_content_items WHERE regionID=$regionID"; mysql_query(insertToPerch) or die(mysql_error()); The error I'm getting is: You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'insertToPerch' at line 1 Can anybody help me figure out why it is failing.

    - by Abenil
    Hey Guys, i hope someone can help me out on this one here. I use several associative arrays in my php application and i'm using to php documentor to comment my sources. I never really did specified comments for the arrays in an array, but now i need to do that and dont know how. $array = array('id' => 'test', 'class' => 'tester', 'options' => array('option1' => 1, 'option2' => 2)) So how do i comment this array in the correct way for @var and @param comments? I could do this like this, but dunno, if this is correct: @param string $array['id'] @param string $array['class'] @param int $array['options']['option1'] But how to this for the var part? • Handling errors on php contact form

    - by topSearchDesign
    The below code is working great for handling errors for text fields in my contact form, but how do I get this same method to work for dropdown select option boxes and textareas? <input type="text" name="name" value="<?php if($errors){echo $name;} ?>" id="name" size="30" /> For example: <textarea name="message" value="<?php if($errors){echo $message;} ?>" id="message" rows="10" cols="40"></textarea> does not work.

  • CURL issue in PHP while getting location list

    - by Ajay
    I am retrieving the nearest locations available from a given address (Longitude/Latitude) from geolocation website. It works fine, but for some places it gives junk characters in the name. Moreover, in browser I am getting different characters compared to my PHP CURL functionality. Here is the URL http://www.geoplugin.net/extras/nearby.gp?lat=17.7374669&long=83.3214858&limit=5&radius=50&format=php One of the location is "Sitampeta" in original location name, but in browser I am getting "Sitammapeta" where as in CURL function I am getting "SÄ«tammapeta". Please tell me why this difference. I wrote a function to convert browser output to original which works fine. function convert ($old) { $n=""; for ($i=0; $i<strlen($old); $i++) { $n .= chr(ord(substr($old,$i,1))); } return $n; } But I dont understand how I convert the CURL output to original name.

  • Send PHP Mail in intervals

    - by iHeff
    I'm working on a simple text messaging service for my high school's student council and my hosting service only allows 19 PHP mail messages to be sent per minute, so is there a way I can set an interval to only send 15 emails, wait a minute, send another 15, wait, and do so until all the mail is sent? Below is some of my code, all you'll probably need to see is the "foreach" section. $subject = ""; $message = "Hey, $first! $messageget"; $header = 'From: Student Council<[email protected]>' . "\r\n" . 'Reply-To: [email protected]' . "\r\n" . 'X-Mailer: PHP/' . phpversion(); foreach($to as $value) { $result = mail($value, $subject, $message, $header); }

  • How do I control script execution time in PHP

    - by mathew
    for example I do have 5 PHP functions on a page which execute when loading. each functions has its own processing time and some of them take more time sometimes to complete the task. hence the total loading time of the said page is slow. my question is how do I control execution time for each script and set time limit for the same. I am aware that there is an in built function in PHP called set_time_limit(); but it gives fatal error if time is beyond the maximum limit...

  • Selecting two field in MySQL with PHP

    - by Crays
    Hi guys, i'm relatively new to php and mysql and would like to know how to select two value in mysql with php. What i have is $query = sprintf("SELECT COUNT(id) FROM table WHERE UPPER(username) = UPPER('%s') AND password='%s'"... in this case, i'm only selecting and count if the id exist and i use list($count) = mysql_fetch_row($result); if($count == 1) and by using cookies, i would like to retrieve two value from the database, namely user (the user's name) and power (which has value of 1,2 or 3, indicating the menu they would be able to see) basically it is to differentiate if you're admin or normal user, but i wonder if i could do SELECT COUNT(id) AND power FROM table WHERE ... is this possible? or is there any other way? Please guide me, thanks.

  • PHP Value Object auto create

    - by JonoB
    Assume that I have a class value object defined in php, where each variable in the class is defined. Something like: class UserVO { public $id; public $name; } I now have a function in another class, which is expecting an array ($data). function save_user($data) { //run code to save the user } How do I tell php that the $data parameter should be typed as a UserVO? I could then have code completion to do something like: $something = $data->id; //typed as UserVO.id $else = $data->name; //typed as UserVO.name I'm guessing something like the following, but this obviously doesnt work $my_var = $data as new userVO();

  • PHP/MySQL Database Issues

    - by queryne
    PHP/MySQL newbie question. I have a database I've imported into my local phpmyadmin. However it seems I can't access it from my a php application. The connection string seems right and when I try to authenticate user credentials to access database information, no problems. However authenticate everyone and knows when I put in fake credentials. Still it won't pull any other information from the database. For instance, once a users login they should see something like, "Hello username", that kind of thing. At this point I see "Hello" without the username. Any ideas what i might be missing?

  • DOM class injection in PHP

    - by Adam Kiss
    idea Via jQuery, I was able to mark all :first-child and :last-child elements in document (well, almost all :)) with class first which could I later style (i.e. first li in ul#navigation would be easily adressable as ul#navigation .first). I used following code: var $f = $('*:first-child') $f.addClass('first'); var $l = $('body *:last-child') $l.addClass('last'); question Now, my question is if it's possible to do the same via php, so non-JS users/gadgets could have the same effects and additional styling and also it would be less overkill on browser. So, is it possible to capture output, parse it as html and inject this class easily in php?

  • PHP: Safe way to store decryptable passwords

    - by Jammer
    I'm making an application in PHP and there is a requirement that it must be possible to decrypt the passwords in order to avoid problems in the future with switching user database to different system. What encryption/decryption algorithm would you suggest? Is it good idea to just store the encrypted value and then compare the future authentication attempts to that value? Are the passwords still as safe as MD5/SHA1 when the private key is not available to the attacker (Hidden in USB drive for example)? I should still use salting, right? What encryption libraries should I use for PHP?
