• How can I improve this SQL to avoid several problems with its results?

  I am having some problems with trying to search. Currently this will only return results that have at least 1 row in the maintenance_parts table. I would like it to return results even if there are 0 parts rows. My second problem is that when you search for a vehicle and it should return multiple results (multiple maintenance rows) it will only return 1 result for that vehicle. Some Background Info: The user has 2 fields to fill out. The fields are vehicle and keywords. The vehicle field is meant to allow searching based on the make, model, VIN, truck number (often is 2 - 3 digits or a letter prefix followed by 2 digits), and a few other fields that belong to the truck table. The keywords are meant to search most fields in the maintenance and maintenance_parts tables (things like the description of the work, parts name, parts number). The maintenance_parts table can contain 0, 1, or more rows for each maintenance row. The truck table contains exactly 1 row for every maintenance row. A truck can have multiple maintenance records. • java.awt.Desktop.open doesn’t work with PDF files?

  It looks like I cannot use Desktop.open() on PDF files regardless of location. • "Add another item" form functionality

  I have a form that lets a user enter their career history - it's a very simple form with only 3 fields - type (dropdown), details (textfield) and year (dropdown). Basically I want to include some dynamic functionality whereby the user can enter multiple items on the same page and then submit them all in one go. I had a search on Google and found some examples but they were all based on tables - my markup is based on DIV tags: <div class="form-fields"> <div class="row"> <label for="type">Type</label> <select id="type" name="type"> <option value="Work">Work</option> </select> </div> <div class="row"> <label for="details">Details</label> <input id="details" type="text" name="details" /> </div> <div class="row"> <label for="year">Year</label> <select id="year" name="year"> <option value="2010">2010</option> </select> </div> </div> So basically the 3 DIV tags with class "row" need to be duplicated, or to simplify things - the div "form-fields" could just be duplicated. I am also aware that the input names would have to converted to array format. Additionally each item will require a "remove" button. There will be a main submit button at the bottom which submits all the data. Anyone got an elegant solution for this?

• Cast exception being generated when using the same type of object

  I was previously using static variables to hold variable data that I want to save between postbacks. I was having problems and found that the data in these variables is lost when the appdomain ends. • The most efficient way to calculate an integral in a dataset range

  I have an array of 10 rows by 20 columns. Each columns corresponds to a data set that cannot be fitted with any sort of continuous mathematical function (it's a series of numbers derived experimentally). I would like to calculate the integral of each column between row 4 and row 8, then store the obtained result in a new array (20 rows x 1 column). I have tried using different scipy.integrate modules (e.g. quad, trpz,...). The problem is that, from what I understand, scipy.integrate must be applied to functions, and I am not sure how to convert each column of my initial array into a function. As an alternative, I thought of calculating the average of each column between row 4 and row 8, then multiply this number by 4 (i.e. 8-4=4, the x-interval) and then store this into my final 20x1 array. The problem is...ehm...that I don't know how to calculate the average over a given range. The question I am asking are: Which method is more efficient/straightforward? Can integrals be calculated over a data set like the one that I have described? How do I calculate the average over a range of rows?

  I try to request an array of IDs, to return each row with that ID, and push each into an Array $finalArray But only the first result from the Query will output, and at the second foreach, it skips the while loop. • Update MySQl table onDrop?

  Hi all. I am writing a PHP/MySQL application (using CodeIgniter) that uses some jQuery functionality for dragging table rows. I have a table in which the user can drag rows to the desired order (kind of a queue for which I need to preserve the rank of each row). I've been trying to figure out how to (and whether I should) update the database each time the user drops a row, in order to simplify the UI and avoid a "Save" button. I have the jQuery working and can send a serialized list back to the server onDrop, but is it good design practice to run an update query this often? The table will usually have 30-40 rows max, but if the user drags row 1 far down the list, then potentially all the rows would need to be updated to update the rank field. I've been wondering whether to send a giant query to the server, to loop through the rows in PHP and update each row with its own Update query, to send a small serialized list to a stored procedure to let the server do all the work, or perhaps a better method I haven't considered. I've read that stored procedures in MySQL are not very efficient and use a separate process for each call. Any advice as to the right solution here? Thanks very much for your help!

I am creating an exercise app that will record the weight used and the number of "reps" the user did in 4 "Sets" per day over a period of 7 days so the user may view their progress. I have built the database table named FIELDS with 2 columns ROW and FIELD_DATA and I can use the code below to load the data into the db. But the code has a sql statement that says, INSERT OR REPLACE INTO FIELDS (ROW, FIELD_DATA)VALUES (%d, '%@'); When I change the statment to: INSERT INTO FIELDS (ROW, FIELD_DATA)VALUES (%d, '%@'); Nothing happens. That is no data is recorded in the db. • OSX: Programmatically added subviews not responding to mouse down events

  I have 3 subclasses: a Block class, a Row class and a Table class. All are subclasses of NSView. I have a Table added with IB which programmatically displays 8 rows, each of which displays 8 blocks. I overrode the mouseDown: method in Block to change the background color to red, but it doesn't work. Still if I add a block directly on top of the Table with IB it does work so I can't understand why it won't work in the first case. • JQuery ajax success help

  Hi all, I am implementing a "Quick delete" function into a page I am creating. The way it works is like this: 1: You click the "delete" button in the table row for the record that you want to delete. 2: The page sends a request to the ajax page and return a successfully message of "yes" or a failure message of "no". My issue is that if I get a successful message of "yes" I want to hide the row for that record. I am having issue "finding" the row using JQuery. • CoffeeScript 2 Dimensional Array Usage

  I feel like I'm missing something with CoffeeScript and 2 dimensional arrays. I'm simply attempting to make a grid of spaces (think checkers). After some searching and a discovery with the arrays.map function, I came up with this: @spaces = [0...20].map (x)-> [0...20].map (y) -> new Elements.Space() And this seems to work great, I have a nice 2 dimensional array with my Space object created in each. But now I want to send the created space constructor the x,y location. Because I'm two layers deep, I lost the x variable when I entered the map function for y. Ideally I would want to do something like: @spaces = [0...20].map (x)-> [0...20].map (y) -> new Elements.Space(x, y) or something that feels more natural to me like: for row in rows for column in row @spaces[row][column] = new Elements.Space(row, column) I'm really open to any better way of doing this. I know how I would do it in standard JavaScript, but really would like to learn how to do it in CoffeeScript.

  Hi, I have a <ul> which refreshes every ten seconds to check if there have been any new tweets (its pulling from a twitter feed). This works fine in Firefox and Chrome etc, but it does not work in any version if Internet Explorer.   I have several classes that are basically interfaces to database rows. Since the class assumes that a row already exists ( __construct expects a field value ), there is a public static function that allows creation of the row and returns an instance of the class. Edit: I changed the example to one that has more database-interface functionality. For most of the time, this kind of class would be instantiated normally, through __construct(). • jquery 2 fades complete at the same time

  Hello again, just another quick one: I am noticing differences with fadeOut dependant on whether this is a target. Here's my structure. I have rows of data on my page, and each row has two icons. One is an update icon for that row, one is a delete icon for that row. When a user clicks the update icon for a particular row, I want both the update and the delete icons to fade away. So, in order to fade the thing the user clicked (the update button) and its corresponding delete button, I am using... $(this).next().add(this).fadeOut('slow'); ...which works, but the two elements don't fade at the same time. this fades first (which is the update icon), and then this.next fades out (the delete icon). But if I specify the two elements by name... $('#updS2, #delS2').fadeOut('slow'); then they fade together. Why is it different? Apologies for Friday rambling.

• php parsing csv with ftell

  I have a 500mb csv file with over 500,000 lines, each with 80 fields. I am using fget to process the file line by line. $col1 = array(); while (($row = fgetcsv($handle, 1000, ",")) !== FALSE) { $col1[] = $row[0]; } Because of an execution time limit on the PHP file by my hosting provider (120 seconds), I can't process the whole file in one run. I tried using ftell() and fseek() to remember the last position for restart. The trouble is, sometimes the ftell() position is in the middle of a row, and resuming means missing the first half of the row. Is there an elegant way to know the last line successfully processed, and resume from the one after it? I realize I can do a simple counter, and then loop through to that point again, but that would produce diminishing returns on the rows I can process towards the end of the file. Is there something like ftell() and fseek() that would work in my case? Or a way to limit ftell() to return the pointer for the end of the previous line?

• Incorrect usage of UPDATE and ORDER BY

  I have written some code to update certain rows of a table with a decreasing sequence of numbers. To select the correct rows I have to JOIN two tables. The last row in the table needs to have a value of 0, the second last -1 and so on. To achieve this I use ORDER BY DESC. Unfortunately my code brings up the following error: Incorrect usage of UPDATE and ORDER BY My reading suggests that I can't use UPDATE, JOIN and ORDER BY together. I've read that maybe subqueries might help? I don't really have any idea how to change my code to do this.
