• RAR Decompress on iPhone Device

  Has anyone found a solution to decompressing RAR files on iPhone (not Jailbroken)? It would be great if there was a library similar to libz. I did not find anything official from [URL="http://www.rarlab.com/"]RARlab[/URL]. Anyone successful with integrating [URL="http://wdtz.org/iphone/unrar/"]unRAR[/URL] into their app? The source code appears to be C++? I know that this has been asked before, but I've not seen a solution other than porting unRAR which is beyond me. Would greatly appreciate any information or suggestions. Thank you.

• Performing AJAX calls on the "new" controller

  In my rails app, I want to have a sortable list as part of an object creation. The best practice suggested Railscast adds the acts_as_list plugin and then initiates AJAX calls to update item position. However, AJAX calls won't work on an unsaved model, which is the situation with new. One solution would be to save the model immediately on new and redirect to edit. This would have a nice side effect of persisting any change so the user could resume work should he be interrupted. However, this solution adds the unwanted complexity of saving an invalid model, compromising rails' validation processes. Is there any better way to allow AJAX + validations without going into too much work?

• Shipping Integration into a Rails App

  I'm working on integrating a shipping solution into a Rails ecommerce app. We're only going to use one shipping provider. So the question is: Fedex or UPS? I'm wondering what Rails developers think about the tech side of this question. What do you think about the APIs, ease of integration, focus on developer's needs between Fedex and UPS? I was leaning towards Fedex, but from looking at the developers resources sections of both sites, it seems that UPS might be more developer friendly. Also, I'm going to be using Shopify's active_shipping gem: http://github.com/Shopify/active_shipping And I also based my app off the Spree Ecommerce solution, but I don't think that's particularly relevant to the question. Spree wrote a wrapper to integrate active_shipping with the Spree system. I gave away all my points, so SO wont' let me post another link in this question. But if you google "Spree active-shipping", their wrapper on github is the first result. Thanks.

  Im looking for a (free) solution to a bookingcalender. Among many candidates Ive found the Jquery Full Calender which has many cool features. One of the reason that I like this one is because it has "drag and drop" and resize, which I also need. But I also need to have the dayview where I the columms monday, tuesday, wedensday, thursday friday .... gets replaced with fx. Room1, Room2, Room3, Room4, Room5, Room6, Room7.   Just updated albacore to version 0.14 and ran into a major problem. My current environment is: Ruby 1.9.1 Rake 0.8.7 Albacore 0.1.4 The problem is that as of now all my rake build throw a funny little exception: undefined method 'push' for #<Enumerator:0x???????> So far I have traced the problem to albacore msbuild.rb line 38 and 26. To be honest I just don't have a clue why this is happening. • Programming image maps

  Hello, I am looking for a javascript/jquery solution to build a map with selectable tracks. It will consist of area's map (image) with some river routes for boats that have to be selectable - route have to be made clearer on mouse hover and after user clicks on a route a popup window should emerge. Basically I am just looking for a solution for this type of 'map'. Maybe there are some jquery widgets/plugins that would ease the work ? I don't know where to start actually.. It's the matrix that turns time t+1 and t+2 variables into t and t+1 variables (it's a forward-looking model). My question is essentially why is it necessary to reverse the signs of all the partial derivatives in B in order to get this solution? I'm talking about this step: B = [ -coef(:,1:5) ] ; Reversing the sign here obviously reverses the sign of every component of A, but I don't have a clear understanding of why it's necessary. My apologies if the question is unclear or if this isn't the best place to ask.

  I'm looking for some way of using the number-crunching ability of a GPU (with Java perhaps?) in addition to using the multiple cores that the target machine has. I will be working on implementing (at present) the A* Algorithm but in the future I hope to replace it with a Genetic Algorithm of sorts. I've looked at Project Fortress but as I'm building my GUI in JavaFX, I'd prefer not to stray too far from a JVM. Of course, should no feasible solution be available, I will migrate to the easiest solution to implement.

• Storing expression references to data base

  I have standard arithmetic expressions sotred as strings eg. "WIDTH * 2 + HEIGHT * 2" In this example WIDTH and HEIGHT references other objects in my system and the literals WIDTH and HEIGHT refers to a property (Name) on those objects. The problem I'm having is when the Name property on an expression object changes the expression won't match anymore. One solution I came up with is to instead of storing "WIDTH * 2 + HEIGHT * 2" i store "{ID_OF_WIDTH} * 2 + {ID_OF_HEIGHT} * 2" And let my parser be able to parse this new syntax and implement an interface or such on referenced objects IExpressionReference { string IdentifierName { get; } } Anyone have a better/alternative solution to my problem?

  Hi, I'm rather new to Haskell. The problem is to find the sum of all even Fibonacci numbers not greater than 4 million. I can't use lists. If I understand correctly, the below solution is wrong, because it uses lists: my_sum = sum $ filter (even) $ takeWhile (< 4000000) fibs Where fibs is the list of all Fibonacci numbers. Somehow, I find it difficult not to think in Haskell in terms of lists. Could anyone guide me to a solution to this problem? Regards

• Watching a variable for changes without polling.

  I'm using a framework called Processing which is basically a Java applet. It has the ability to do key events because Applet can. You can also roll your own callbacks of sorts into the parent. I'm not doing that right now and maybe that's the solution. For now, I'm looking for a more POJO solution. So I wrote some examples to illustrate my question. Please ignore using key events on the command line (console). Certainly this would be a very clean solution but it's not possible on the command line and my actual app isn't a command line app. In fact, a key event would be a good solution for me but I'm trying to understand events and polling beyond just keyboard specific problems. Both these examples flip a boolean. When the boolean flips, I want to fire something once. I could wrap the boolean in an Object so if the Object changes, I could fire an event too. How can I watch a POJO for changes without polling? In C# there seems to be something interesting called properties. • Proxy calls across a DMZ

  We need to determine a quick way for our web application deployed in a DMZ to communicate to our SQL server that lives in the protected network. Only port 80 is open and available, and no direct SQL traffic is allowed across the firewall. So take the following simple system. A web page (default.aspx) makes a call (string GetData()) that resides in an assembly (Simple.DLL). GetData() uses ADO.NET to open a connection, execute a SQL call, retrieve the data, and return the data to the caller. However, since only port 80 is available and no SQL traffic is allowed, what could we do to accomplish our goal? I believe a .NET remoting solution would work, and I have heard of an architecture where a remoting layer proxies the call from Simple.DLL in the DMZ to another Simple.DLL that runs on the protected side. The remoting layer handles the communication between the two DLL’s. Can someone shed some light on how WCF/remoting can help us and how to get started with a solution?

• How Do I Convert text to a WAV file With Inaudible Waveform?

  I am trying to create an audio watermarking system. I figure the best solution is to create an audio file (WAV) based on a unique string of text and then combine this with the original wav. The part that makes this tricky (for me anyway) is: How do I convert the text string to a wav? How do I ensure that the resulting WAV form is inaudible (or at least barely noticeable to the listener). I would prefer this be done server side (via PHP, etc) but if the processing load isn't too much then would be ok with something in Flash or Javascript. I'd be willing to pay someone to create me a workable solution (complete source code that functions as described). Thanks, Scott!

• PHP/Apache: Permission settings for uploaded JPEG image files not correct.

  I just setup a LAMP development server and am still trouble-shooting some things. The server is installed on one computer and I use a Windows laptop to write my code and test the site via the web browser. My file uploading script works in that JPEG image files are successfully uploaded to the server, but when I try to view the images in the web browser, permission is denied. I check the permissions on the file via the server and they are 600. I can fix the issue by chmod 777 theimage.jpg, but this doesn't seem like a good solution at all. Does the solution have something to do with Apache configuration? Or is there something else I should be doing. Thank-you, Mike

  I have a great deal of javascript that needs to be min'd before being served to the end user. Currently, I'm using JSMIN, but I'd like to switch to something a bit more powerful (such as something with local variable replacement). I'm currently looking at YUI min developed by yahoo, and it got me thinking about the min tool that jquery uses. Does anyone know what it is and if it's publicly available? Also, any recommendations on other min tools that might be better suited than YUI min? If possible, I'd like a java solution so I can just plug the library into what I've already created for the JSMIN solution. Thanks

  I am currently evaluating Wicket and I am trying to figure out how things work. I have a question regarding form submit and panels (or other components). Imagine a custom wicket panel which contains a text field, doing as-you-type validation using ajax. This panel is added to a form. How can the Panel react a form submit (let's say because javascript/ajax is unavailable)? I am currently only aware of one solution: calling a panel's method inside the Form onSubmit() method. But this seems not like a "reusable" approach here, because I have to add boilerplate code to every form's onSubmit() which contains the panel (and every developer which use the panel must know this). So here comes my question: Is there any way that a Panel/Component can "detect" a form submit in some way? Or is there any other solution beside this? Thank you.

  hi, After being through numerous forums available on the net for last 5 days, I am still not able to completely track down the browser close event. My requirement is to generate a popup message, when user tries to close the browser. I have called my javascript function on body 'onbeforeunload' event. And I have hardcoded the conditions to check the mouse-coordinates for the red 'X' buton of browser, refresh, File-close or Alt-F4. My code works fine when browser window is Maximized, but fails if we shrink it after a limit. Please help me, if some body has already found the solution to a similar problem. Thank you.   Hi, I'm creating an iPhone project, and will be communicating with a server via REST. I will be sending push notifications, initiated from another service. I would like to authenticate all communication from the iPhone to my server (e.g., synchronising notifications with the server as the push request is not guaranteed to go through) 2 legged Oauth seems to be the ideal solution, however there is not a lot of information regarding it, especially as most of the libraries seem to be oriented towards consumers and not providers. What library should I use? Is Oauth overkill? If so what do you recommend? I'm looking for the simplest possible solution at the moment; If it is going to take me more than a week to implement Oauth, it's simply not worth it. Thanks

The conversion wizard runs and I see the Welcome screen. I click next. I then see the Ready to Convert screen but it only offers to convert the solution file and the one project. There is no mention of all my other projects. I click Finish and all of my other projects are unavailable. What can I do?

• What tools are people using to measure SQL Server database performance?

  I've experimented with a number of techniques for monitoring the health of our SQL Servers, ranging from using the Management Data Warehouse functionality built into SQL Server 2008, through other commercial products such as Confio Ignite 8 and also of course rolling my own solution using perfmon, performance counters and collecting of various information from the dynamic management views and functions. What I am finding is that whilst each of these approaches has its own associated strengths, they all have associated weaknesses too. I feel that to actually get people within the organisation to take the monitoring of SQL Server performance seriously whatever solution we roll out has to be very simple and quick to use, must provide some form of a dashboard, and the act of monitoring must have minimal impact on the production databases (and perhaps even more importantly, it must be possible to prove that this is the case). So I'm interested to hear what others are using for this task? Any recommendations?
