  Id like to convert it to uppercase for the simple purpose of formatting so it will adhere to a future case statement. As I thought case statements are case sensitive. • Best way to do text processing in linux/mac ?

  I generally need to do a fair amount of text processing for my research, such as removing the last token from all lines, extracting the first 2 tokens from each line, splitting each line into tokens, etc. What is the best way to perform this ? Should I learn Perl for this? Or should I learn some kind of shell commands? The main concern is speed. If I need to write long code for such stuff, it defeats the purpose.

  I having trouble scraping a certain long dash that is encoded as — ; on the Time magazine site. It looks like this: —. It works fine when this dash is encoded as mdash, but when the problem dash is scraped, it is returned as unknown characters. I am using Nokogiri and am wondering if I have to use some sort of special encoding? The page says it is encoded with UTF-8.

  I am developing a CICS web service requestor application to consume a distributed web service. I used the web services assistant DFHWS2LS to transform the wsdl to copybooks successfully. I have no problem issuing the PUT CONTAINER and INVOKE SERVICE api commands, but when I issue GET CONTAINER I am not receiving any containers or data.   I installed rvm as root to setup an Ubuntu LTS 8.04 as a web hosting server for my rails apps. rvm is installed in: /usr/local/rvm Everything works fine, gems installation included and users are able to use ruby and gem commands. sudo gem install rails My problem is that the gems EXECUTABLE DIRECTORY is not included in my PATH and thus I cannot use rails command. Is there a way to dynamycally include gems executable directory in my PATH? Can it be done directly through rvm?

Is there a reason why die wouldn't get called here? purgePhotograph() has no script killing commands either.
