• Curious: Could LLVM be used for Infocom z-machine code, and if so how? (in general)

  Forgive me if this is a silly question, but I'm wondering if/how LLVM could be used to obtain a higher performance Z-Machine VM for interactive fiction. (If it could be used, I'm just looking for some high-level ideas or suggestions, not a detailed solution.) It might seem odd to desire higher performance for a circa-1978 technology, but apparently Z-Machine games produced by the modern Inform 7 IDE can have performance issues due to the huge number of rules that need to be evaluated with each turn.   Hi, i'm currently working on a game as an assignment for school in java. the game cuurently is designed for Console. the game is for 2 players, one attacking from north to south, and the other from west to east. the purpose of the game is to build a "bridge"/"path" between the 2 of your sides before your opponent does. for example: A B C D E F 1 _ _ X _ _ _ 1 2 O X X _ _ _ 2 3 O X O O O O 3 4 O X O _ _ _ 4 5 X X _ _ _ _ 5 6 X O _ _ _ _ 6 A B C D E F player that attacks from north to south won (path/bridge from C to A) my problem is, what algorithm would be good to check if the user have managed to create a path (will be checked at the end of each turn). you're help would be very appreciated.

• dojo 1.4: difference in tree html rendering

  Hi, I have written an application using dojo 1.3 in which i have used the dijit tree. I am loading the tree with json data specified in the store which is in turn used by the tree model. In the 1.3 version the tree elements pick up the id directly from the json data.However in 1.4 the tree elements have their own id which is something like dijit__treenode_4. The id's that I have specified in json are unique and im not able to understand why these are not being used anymore. Please help me understand how this functionality has changed and how I can override the automatic id generation.. Thanks in advance, Fell

• Drupal 6: Nice_menus module at navigation block.

  Hi friends, I'm new at drupal. I installed Nice Menus Module. • How do I use BCP or Sql Server Management Studio to get BLOB data our of Sql Server?

  I'm sorry if this question has been asked already, but I couldn't find it anywhere. I have a table that stores files as BLOBS. The column that holds the file is an image datatype. I would like to be able to extract the binary data out of the column and turn it in to an actual file. I would ideally like to be able to do this with BCP or management studio if possible. I have tried BCP, but for some reason when I try and pull out an office document Word thinks it's corrupt. Here's what I've tried so far (obviously the values have been changed to protect the innocent :): bcp "select document_binary_data from database where id = 12345" queryout "c:\filename.doc" -n -S server -U username -P password This isn't working though? Any thoughts?

• Twitter API + OAuth - 401 error developing locally using reverse SSH tunnel

  I'm developing a django application which lets users connect their Twitter account. As I'm developing locally, I have set up a reverse SSH tunnel so that the Twitter API has a valid callback url (myserver.net): ssh -nNTR :6969:localhost:8000 myserver.net On successful authentication, Twitter passes back its OAuth access tokens to myserver.net, which in turn attempts to access Twitter's API, which returns a 401 error. I assume that because the callback is different to the address which is accessing the API (myserver.net / localhost), Twitter denies me access. I have tried this: export http_proxy="http://myserver.net:3128" Where myserver.net:3128 is running a Squid Proxy server to tunnel Twitter's API requests from my development machine so they appear to be coming from myserver, but receive the same 401 error. When I deploy to a server with a proper hostname / static IP address it works fine. What else do I need to do?

• Eclipse+Subversive- Multiple src paths in a single project each from a separate parts of a single re

  In a nutshell, I would like to have a single eclipse project with multiple src directories each managed by subversive (or subclipse). If the code base were small, I would use several projects. However, the code base is not small (50+ src paths). Does anyone know how to do this with the Subversion plugins for eclipse? All of the src paths derive from modules that in turn have a common point node in the repository. However, the modules are versioned, so I can’t checkout all of them. It looks as though Subclipse and Subversive do not support multiple src paths. Can anyone confirm this? Solutions?

• How can programmers get the quiet working environment they need? [closed]

  We have an open plan office with all our programmers, web designers and client service team. Problem is my programmer team has to put up with dance music and wailing guitars all day due to the fact that designers and client services team think this makes the office a better environment. When I turn it off (by blocking the streaming of music on the router, he-he-he) they complain that its so quiet and dull. How do I explain to them that programmers need a calm quiet environment without coming across like a really annoying geek? Any other thoughts or ideas appreciated.

• Importing Classes Within a Module

  Currently, I have a parser with multiple classes that work together. For Instance: TreeParser creates multiple Product and Reactant modules which in turn create multiple Element classes. The TreeParser is called by a render method within the same module, which is called from the importer. Currently, using the class name in the imported module file works only if the file calling the module contains from module_name import *, so the classes are imported into the main namespace. Finally, if the package has dependencies (such as re and another another module within the same folder), where is the best place to require those modules? Within the __init__.py file or within the module itself? I don't really want to add the module name in front of every call to the class, in case I do call import *, however, is it possible to use a variable name of the current module to call the class, or use a workaround in the __init__.py file? I'm probably used to the ruby require '' method instead of python's module system.

  I find myself writing a lot of code in my views that looks like the code below. In this case, I want to add some explanatory HTML for a novice, and different HTML for an expert user. <% if (ViewData["novice"] != null ) { % some extra HTML for a novice <% } else { % some HTML for an expert <% } % This is presentation logic, so it makes sense that it is in a view vs the controller. However, it gets ugly really fast, especially when ReSharper wants to move all the braces around to make it even uglier (is there a way to turn that off for views?). My question is whether this is proper, or should I branch in the controller to two separate views? If I do two views, I will have a lot of duplicated HTML to maintain. Or should I do two separate views with a shared partial view of the stuff that is in common?

  Hello, I have a form that contains 3 blocks (block a, b, c). There is a master-detail relationship between b (detail) and c (master). Data-flow: you enter an ID in block a, which in turn populates block c and corresponding details in block b. Control goes immediately to block c. Objective: I need to be able to update details of block b. Issue: I cannot navigate to block b. Keep in Mind: --In the Property Palette Keyboard Navigable is set to "Yes" --Insert Allowed and Update Allowed are set to "Yes." If someone could respond ASAP I would really appreciate it. • Django remove list_editable on a per row basis.

  On the back of Django 1.2RC1, I have built a great administrator for my client! It's awesome. The client has one request that, if not satisfied, could bring this house of cards crashing down. I have a list of swim meet results. A meet result is added by a superuser. A team rep can edit a meet result (which they must be able to do inline, with list_editable), but after they edit the meet result inline and save, they should no longer be able to edit that result inline. They can only perform one edit. So, my question ... can I turn off list_editable on a per row basis?

  Hi, I am trying to get some data relevant to a stored procedure (or funtion) back from a database using .Net. The first thing I need to be able to do, is get the stored proc from the database and turn it into string format. The information I need is: The return set of columns, tables used within the SP, Stored Procedures called from the SP. The only way of doing this at the moment that i can think of, is though parsing the text and looking for keyword matches. Is there a better way of doing this? Any ideas? Thanks.

• Mercurial merge strategy per file type

  All: I want to use kdiff to merge all files with a certain suffix (say *.c, *.h) and I want to do two things (turn off premerge and use internal:other) for all files with another suffix (say *.mdl). The purpose of this is to allow me to employ a type of 'clobber merge' for a specific file type (ie: un-mergable files like configurations, auto-generated C, models, etc..) In my .hgrc I've tried: [merge-tools] kdiff3= clobbermerge=internal:other clobbermerge.premerge = False [merge-patterns] **.c = kdiff3 **.h = kdiff3 **.mdl = clobbermerge but it still triggers kdiff3 for all files. Thoughts? An extension of this would be to perform a 'clobber merge' on a directory - but once the syntax is clear for a file suffix, the dir should be easy.

  As you know, in Eclipse you can turn on "Unnecessary 'else' statement" check that will trigger on if-then-else with premature return. And, from my experience, there are two most possible situations when use such statement: 1) Pre-check: if (validate(arg1)) { return false; } doLotOfStuff(); 2) Post-check: doLotOfStuff(); if (condition) { return foo; } else { return bar; } In the second case, if the trigger is on, Eclipse will suggest you to change the code to: doLotOfStuff(); if (condition) { return foo; } return bar; However, I think that the return with else statement is more readable as it is like direct mapping of business logic. So I am curios if this "Unnecessary 'else' statement" code convention is widespread or else statement is more preferable?

• How would you create a string of all UTF-8 characters? [PHP]

  There are many ways to represent the +1 million UTF-8 characters. Take the latin capital "A" with macron (A). This is unicode code point U+0100, hex number 0xc4 0x80, decimal number 196 128, and binary 11000100 10000000. I would like to create a collection of the first 65,535 UTF-8 characters for use in testing applications. These are all unicode characters up to code point U+FFFF (byte3). Is it possible to do something like a for($x=0) loop and then convert the resulting decimal to another base (like hex) which would allow the creation of the matching unicode character? I can create the value A using something like this: $char = "\xc4\x80"; // or $char = chr(196).chr(128); However, I am not sure how to turn this into an automated process. // fail! $char = "\x". dechex($a). • Android - Debugging on device

  Hi, How do I install the app that I'm making on an actual device? I'm on Mac Snow Leopard with a Nexus One phone and I've followed the steps here http://developer.android.com/intl/zh-TW/guide/developing/device.html So I added: 1. android:debuggable="true" 2. Turn on "USB Debugging" on your device. However, when I go to the terminal and do "adb devices" only the emulator shows up there. I'm supposed to see my device name too right? What am I missing? • Trouble with Canvas rendering in Safari/Opera

  Been banging my head against this one for a while, and figured I'd turn to the experts for some advice. I've made a jQuery snippet that grabs the values from a table and plots them in a line graph on a canvas element (also generated by the JS). All's well in Firefox and Chrome, but Safari and Opera aren't displaying the plotted points. I've reviewed in Firebug, Web Inspector debugger, JSLint, and checked the markup with the w3 validator, but still can't find anything glaringly obvious. Any chance one of you guys could help me out? • Is there a Delphi standard function for escaping HTML?

  I've got a report that's supposed to take a grid control and produce HTML output. One of the columns in the grid can display any of a number of values, or <Any>. When this gets output to HTML, of course, it ends up blank. I could probably write up some routine to use StringReplace to turn that into &lt;Any&gt; so it would display this particular case correctly, but I figure there's probably one in the RTL somewhere that's already been tested and does it right. Anyone know where I could find it?

• VS.NET 2008 - Stop Giving me a Table Adapter.......

  I'm trying to see if there is a way to stop VS.NET 2008 from doing something which is very annoying to me and our particular standards of coding. When you create a blank dataset and then drag over from the server a table (or tables), VS.NET automatically creates a table adapter for that table, puts the connection information into the XML definition of the XSD and also puts a setting on the property to this database. This requires us to delete the table adapter, get rid of the connection info the XSD file and then go delete the local setting which has been added to the project. I know that I could probably leave all of that stuff and not use it, but that just seems wrong and bloated. Any idea on how to turn this off?

• .NET Multipage Tiff with Lossy Compression

  I need a way to take several jpgs and convert them into a single multi page Tiff. I have that working using GDI+ however it only works with the compression LZW which is lossless. This means that my 3 50KB Jpgs turn into 3MB multipage Tiff file. This is not something I can accept for the software that I am working on. I know that Tiff Image format can use a JPG compression scheme but GDI+ does not seem to support this. If anyone knows how to do this in .NET (C#) or of any component that does this conversion.

  Hi, I am using data grid view to display items as excel spread sheet in VB.NET. I got a table named CostTypes with column names [CostTypeID, CostType] and values [1,External] and [2,Internal] (These are constant but more values can be added to table). I want to create columns with names of the values[External , Internal] in DataGridView. If I use databiding directly I get columns [CostTypeID,CostType] which is not what I am looking for. If some one could explain how to create columns at runtime in datagridview or how to retrieve data from data base using LINQ so that [External , Internal] turn out to be columns that would be great. It seems that the R warning message raises a python error. # enable use of python objects in rpy2 import rpy2.robjects.numpy2ri import numpy as np from rpy2.robjects import r # create an example array a = np.array([[5,2,5],[3,7,8]]) # this line leads to a warning message, which in turn raises an # error message if run within a script. result = r['chisq.test'](a) Running that code example in ipython works, however, running it inside a script raises the errorTypeError: 'module' object is unsubscriptable. • javascript disabling a div or a link? (for a 5-star rating system)

  Basically, I've created a 5-star rating system. Pretty typical. It shows how many stars other people have given the item, and then when a user hovers over the stars, it lights up x number of stars based on how many they're over. It's all run by AJAX. They click 5 stars it automatically adds their 5-star rating to the group. The problem is that after they rate it I want to turn the system off, but I can't seem to be able to do that. I've tried everything I can think of. I've tried using element.disable for the a hrefs and for the div, but it still lets them vote away, over and over again, at least in firefox.... Can anyone help me out with a method to simply "freeze" the stars on what the user voted?? If I need to add code that's cool! I figured it probably wasn't necessary in this situation!
