• I have a problem with a AE1200 Cisco/Linksys Wireless-N USB adapter having stopped working after I ran the update manager in Ubuntu 12.04

  Here is the problem, I use a Cisco/Linksys AE1200 wireless network adapter to connect my desktop to a public wifi internet connection. I use ndiswrapper to use the windows driver and it had been working fine for me untill I ran the update manager overnight a few days ago. • Getting hp-snmp-agents on HP ProLiant DL360 on Lenny working

  After receiving our HP ProLiant DL360 I'd like to integrate the machine into our Munin system and thus enable ProLiant specific information to be exposed via SNMP. I'm running Debian Lenny with kernel 2.6.26-2-vserver-amd64 . I've followed http://downloads.linux.hp.com/SDR/getting_started.html and the HP repository has been added to /etc/apt/sources.list.d/HP-ProLiantSupportPack.list . Setting up Lenny SNMP itself is not a problem, I configure it to have a public v1 community string to read all data and it works. I install hp-snmp-agents and run hpsnmpconfig and it adds additional lines to the top of /etc/snmp/snmpd.conf : dlmod cmaX /usr/lib64/libcmaX64.so snmpd gets restarted. Via lsof I can see that libcmaX64 was loaded and is used by snmpd, put I do not get any additional information out of snmp. I use snmpwalk -v 1 -c public ... and I can see many OIDs but I do not see the new ones I'd expect, most notably temperatures, fan speed and such. Is this expected behavior?

• Using Internet Explorer 8 and 9 beta under internet options -advanced java does not show to check the box

  I am using internet 8 and under internet options advanced there is not box to check to enable java. I was told to reset which did nto work. I have tried to uninstall java 6-21 32 bit but I get windows installer error 1723. I brought up the java console and made sure it was pointing to the right target. But I guess the main thing is I have no enable java under internet options, advanced. It was under security to enable java scripting. Any answers?

• What is the need for 'discoverability' in a REST API when the clients are not advanced enough to make use of it anyway?

  The various talks I have watched and tutorials I scanned on REST seem to stress something called 'discoverability'. To my limited understanding, the term seems to mean that a client should be able to go to http://URL - and automatically get a list of things it can do. What I am having trouble understanding - is that 'software clients' are not human beings. They are just programs that do not have the intuitive knowledge to understand what exactly to do with the links provided. Only people can go to a website and make sense of the text and links presented and act on it. So what is the point of discoverability, when the client code that accesses such discoverable URLs cannot actually do anything with it, unless the human developer of the client actually experiments with the resources presented? This looks like the exact same thing as defining the set of available functions in a Documentation manual, just from a different direction and actually involving more work for the developer. Why is this second approach of pre-defining what can be done in a document external to the actual REST resources, considered inferior?

• Advanced searching in Tracker Search Tool? Filter by folders?

  Hi, I have checked several "Tracker Search Tool" questions, but they all stop at very superficial usage. Google, at least for me, didn't turn out anything either. Here is my situation: I have a lot of documents, and I want to index them all, and do fulltext searching on them. I have organized them by folders in advance, and sometimes I want to search across all subfolders, sometimes only in a specific subfolders. Is there any way to do it? Right now, I am changing the locations in the search preferences and triggering a hard-reset of the Tracker database, but that's far from ideal. I am using Maverick, 10.10.

• What kind of math should I be expecting in advanced programming?

  And I don't mean just space shooters and such, because in non-3D environments it's obvious that not much beyond elementary math is needed to implement. Most of the programming in 2D games is mostly going to involve basic arithmetic, algorithms for enemy AI and dimensional worlds, rotation, and maybe some Algebra as well depending on how you want to design. But I ask because I'm not really gifted with math at all. I get frustrated and worn out just by doing Pre-Algebra, so Algebra 2 and Calculus would likely be futile for me. I guess I'm not so "right-brained" when it comes down to pure numbers and math formulas, but the bad part is that I'm no art-expert either. What do you people here suppose I should do? Go along avoiding as much of the extremely difficult maths I can't fathom, or try to ease into more complex math as I excel at programming?

• Multiple IP addresses to one NIC, but advanced IP settings window only shows one?

  The ipconfig of my Windows Server 2003 server shows that the IP addresses 10.0.0.3, 10.0.0.11, and 10.0.0.12 are assigned to it. However, when I look in the Advanced TCP/IP Settings window for that connection, I only see the IP address of 10.0.0.3 listed there. In the Support tab for the connection, it shows that it's connected through 10.0.0.12, and in the Support Details window, it shows all the previously mentioned IP addresses. Where are these phantom IP addresses being stored and how can I free them up so I don't have any IP conflicts?

• In ADUC MMC, Advanced View, how to get Attribute Editor tab on the result of a Find?

  In Win2008 MS added a new Tab on objects in ADUC. Called Attribute Editor it is like Novell Console One's Other tab, or an arbitrary LDAP editor view, or an ADSI Edit style view. Basically it shows all allowed attributes for the object class, and allows you to edit according to your permissions. You need to enable Advanced Options in the View menu before it shows up. This is great, however it only shows up when you browse the directory tree and select an object. If you use the Find tool and open an object Attribute Editor is not shown. How annoying! Especially if your domain has more than 2000 users in a single container, then you almost must use Find to get to an object. Is there any way to make the Attribute Editor tab show up after using Find to open an object?

• How to increase my "advanced" knowledge of PHP further? (quickly)

  I have been working with PHP for years and gotten a very good grasp of the language, created many advanced and not-so-advanced systems that are working very well. The problem I'm running into is that I only learn when I find a need for something that I haven't learned before. This causes me to look up solutions and other code that handles the problem, and so I will learn about a new function or structure that I hadn't seen before. It is in this way that I have learned many of my better techniques (such as studying classes put out by Amazon, Google or other major companies). The main problem with this is the concept of not being able to learn something if you don't know it exists. For instance, it took me several months of programming to learn about the empty() function, and I simply would check the string length using strlen() to check for empty values. I'm now getting into building bigger and bigger systems, and I've started to read blogs like highscalability.com and been researching MySQL replication and server data for scaling. I know that structure of your code is very important to make full systems work. After reading a recent blog about reddit's structure, it made me question if there is some standard or "accepted systems" out there. I have looked into frameworks (I've used Kohana, which I regretted, but decided that PHP frameworks were not for me) and I prefer my own library of functions rather than having a framework. My current structure is a mix between WordPress, Kohana and my own knowledge.   I have a library that draws regular bezier path figures (complex paths formed of a lot of bezier points), using midpoint approximation. I can draw them without problem, but I need to add support for advanced geometry operations: Nearest point of a curve, intersection, figure contains point, and more importantly, path combinations: difference, intersection, exclusive-or, union, ... Is there any good source to get all this? Thanks

  Of course, by 'advanced' I mean here just something beyond what every programmer does know. I'm currently more-or-less comfortable with the basics and want to understand the most important, most elegant and most practically applicable achievements of modern type theory. I just do not have much time, desire and mental powers to study all the formalistics more thoroughly and that may change in the future. But there is something really attractive for me in that branch, that just forces to ask silly questions like this :) Thank you very much!

  I am planning to write a Swing-based application (using Netbeans 6.8). It seems that Netbeans has a very advanced GUI Editor... Still I have my doubts regarding the code generated by it. Additionally I don't like the fact the part of the code is locked (still I understand the need). Has anybody used Netbeans GUI Editor with success ? Does it "scale" ?

  I've got a MySQL query similar to the following: SELECT *, MATCH (`Description`) AGAINST ('+ipod +touch ' IN BOOLEAN MODE) * 8 + MATCH(`Description`) AGAINST ('ipod touch' IN BOOLEAN MODE) AS Relevance FROM products WHERE ( MATCH (`Description`) AGAINST ('+ipod +touch' IN BOOLEAN MODE) OR MATCH(`LongDescription`) AGAINST ('+ipod +touch' IN BOOLEAN MODE) ) HAVING Relevance > 1 ORDER BY Relevance DESC Now, I've made the query more advanced by also searching for UPC: SELECT *, MATCH (`Description`) AGAINST ('+ipod +touch ' IN BOOLEAN MODE) * 8 + MATCH(`Description`) AGAINST ('ipod touch' IN BOOLEAN MODE) + `UPC` = '123456789012' * 16 AS Relevance FROM products WHERE ( MATCH (`Description`) AGAINST ('+ipod +touch' IN BOOLEAN MODE) OR MATCH(`LongDescription`) AGAINST ('+ipod +touch' IN BOOLEAN MODE) ) AND `UPC` = '123456789012' HAVING Relevance > 1 ORDER BY Relevance DESC That'll return results, but the fact that I had a successful match on the UPC does not increase the value of Relevance. Can I only do that kind of calculation w/full text searches like MATCH() AGAINST()? Clarification: Okay, so my real question is, why does the following not have a Relevance = 16? SELECT `UPC`, `UPC` = '123456789012' * 16 AS Relevance FROM products WHERE `UPC` = '123456789012' HAVING Relevance > 1 ORDER BY Relevance DESC
