    Besides lesser errors on 11.10, I ran into a more annoying one: I cannot access NTFS partitions. No matter whether I use nautilus, dolphin, tux commander or archive manager, always does the same thing, could not mount 'disc name': Not authorised' There were several fixes of problems with access to NTFS partitions, but none of them helped. When I used nautilus in sudo mode, the partition looked empty, although when I booted on windows, there were files. It was reported as a bug somewhere. Can anyone help me?

  • System Settings and Software Center does not pull up after fresh install 11.10 amd64

    I've had a few install rounds with ubuntu ever since 8.04 and has worked flawlessly every time. However, for some reason, when I try to click either System Settings or Software Center, the icon pulses as if it were working to come up but never does. The same goes for System Settings. I would expect that a password dialog would appear, but nothing shows. Is there bug with 11.10 that didn't exist with 11.04?

    Thanks to Phoronix there seems to be a fix for the power regression/overheating bug in the Linux Kernel 3.0.1 bouncing around on the Internet. However this supposed fix which I read has been patched to the Kernel in a testing phase is not newbie-friendly (if you know what I mean).   • Getting a null reference exception exporting a slightly complex rdlc report to excel

    Have an issue in exporting a slightly complex report to excel from an rdlc. Exporting a simple tabular report works fine, but getting a null reference exception with a more complex one. As is usually the case, it works on the server in the development environment, but not in the test environment. The server in the development environment has iis, sql and sql reporting services on it and test only has iis (I didn't set them up). I'm guessing there is something that gets installed with SSRS that is not installed with just the report viewer. The report has several parameters going into it and a few generic lists going in for datasources. Some tables for display as well as a list. Working with the 2005 version.   • Bug in CF9: values for unique struct keys referenced and overwritten by other keys.

    We've run into a serious issue with CF9 wherein values for certain struct keys can be referenced by other keys, despite those other keys never being set. See the following examples: Edit: Looks like it isn't just something our servers ate. I'd be curious to know if anyone has encountered this or can reproduce this in their environment. For us, it happens 100% of the time on Apache/CF9 running on Linux, both RH4 and RH5. To see the extent of the problem, we ran a quick loop to find other naming sequences that are affected and found hundreds of matches for 2 letter key names. So i thought rather than modifying the core sales report for this purpose better to do a custom functionality. These are the steps that i did but i am not able to produce it. Used magento 1.4.1 version for this.   • Speedup of fixing an openssl bug with 8192 bit key [on hold]

    This is related to this Bug-Report https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=747453 OpenSSL contains a set of arbitrary limitations on the size of accepted key parameters that make unrelated software fail to establish secure connections. The problem was found while debugging a XMPP s2s connection issue where two servers with long certificate keys (8192 Bit RSA) failed to establish a secure connection because OpenSSL rejected the handshake. This seems to be a small problem to be fixed but although there is an easy patch available to fix the issue in that bug report, no reactions are noticed so far.. The last patch that broke the 2048 barrier took 2 years to be implemented and only resulted in an increase to 4096bit, which seems to be a bad joke. Where would we have to report this to speed up the implementation for such an issue?

  • HUGE EF4 Inheritance Bug

    Well maybe not for everyone but for me is definitely really important. That is why I get straight into the point. We have the following model: Which maps to the following database: We are using EF4.0 and we want to load all Burgers including BurgerDetails. So we write the following query: But it fails. The error is : “The ResultType of the specified expression is not compatible with the required type. The expression ResultType is 'Transient.reference[SampleEFDBModel.Food]' but the required type is 'Transient.reference[SampleEFDBModel.Burger]'.Parameter name: arguments[0]”   So in the new version of EF there is no way to eager load data through Navigation Properties with 1-1 relationships defined in subclasses. Here is the relevant Microsoft Connect Issue. It is described through an other example but the result is the same.  Please if you think this is important vote up on Microsoft Connect.   EF 4.0 has many improvements. I am using it since v1 in large-scale projects and this version is faster,produces cleaner sql, more reliable and can be used for complicated business scenarios. That is why I believe this issue should be solved as soon as possible. I understand that release cycles are slow but I am hoping atleast for a hotfix.     My Excel is in Finnish, but don't let that bother you... First Report Filter "Kupi" has only number values in my source table, for example 643203, 3533, 253244, etc. How ever in Pivot's "Report Filter" all those values are converted to date values MONTH yyyy. How do I reformat the filter values to respect the original cell formatting?! The same problem is with actual date values in my source table when using "Report Filter" in Pivot table. In my source data my dates are in format: dd.mm.yyyy and for some reason in Pivot's "Report Filter" all dates are shown in MONTH yyyy-format?! Why is that and what do I need to do to fix this?

    fired up my Minecraft server again after about a year off. My server used to run 11.04, which has since been upgraded to 12.04; I lost my management scripts in the upgrade (thought I'd backed up the user's home directory), but whatever, I enjoy developing stuff like that anyways. However, this time around, I'm running into issues. I start the Minecraft server using a detached screen, however the script is unable to 'stuff' commands into the screen instance until I attach to the screen then detach again? Once I do that, I can stuff anything I want into the server's terminal using the -X option, until I stop/start the server again, then I have to reattach and detach in order to restore functionality?     What does this code print and why?             HashSet<int> set = new HashSet<int>();             int[] data = new int[] { 1, 2, 1, 2 };             var unique = from i in data                          where set.Add(i)                          select i;   // Compiles to: var unique = Enumerable.Where(data, (i) => set.Add(i));             foreach (var i in unique)             {                 Console.WriteLine("First: {0}", i);             }               foreach (var i in unique)             {                 Console.WriteLine("Second: {0}", i);             }   The output is: First: 1 First: 2 Why is there no output of the second loop? The reason is that LINQ does not cache the results of the collection but it does recalculate the contents for every new enumeration again. Since I have used state (the Hashset does decide which entries are part of the output) I do arrive with an empty sequence since Add of the Hashset will return false for all values I have already passed in leaving nothing to return a second time. The solution is quite simple: Use the Distinct extension method or cache the results by calling .ToList() or ToArray() for the result of the LINQ query. Lession Learned: Do never forget to think about state in Where clauses!

    It’s a curious thing about SQL that the SUM or AVG of no items is not zero, it’s NULL. In this post, you’ll see how this means your SUM and AVG calculations might run at half speed, or worse.
