  • Double type returns -1.#IND/NaN error when calculating pi iteratively

    I am working through a problem for my MCTS certification. The program has to calculate pi until the user presses a key, at which point the thread is aborted, the result returned to the main thread and printed in the console. Simple enough, right? This exercise is really meant to be about threading, but I'm running into another problem. The procedure that calculates pi returns -1.#IND. I've read some of the material on the web about this error, but I'm still not sure how to fix it. When I change double to Decimal type, I unsurprisingly get Overflow Exception very quickly. So, the question is how do I store the numbers correctly? Do I have to create a class to somehow store parts of the number when it gets too big to be contained in a Decimal?   • AJAX Submit to PHP still loading page after preventDefault()

    I have a webpage that I am using .ajax to send variables to a php script. The php page is loading into the browser as if I was navigating to it. The script is loading the data correctly, so my issue is stopping the navigation and keeping the user on the original page.     Hey there. I'm running into a bit of trouble while trying to cancel the submit of a form. I've been following this tutorial (even though i'm not making a login script), and it seems to be working for him. My first thought was that it might be outdated, but it's actually "just" a year ago. So do anyone see what's wrong? Thanks in advance. EDIT: From what i've read the easiest and most appropriate way to abort the submit is to return false? But i can't seem to get it working. I've searched the forum and i've found several helpful threads but none of them actually works. I must be screwing something up.

  • What is the benefit of triple buffering?

    I read everything written in a previous question. From what I understand in double buffering the program must wait until the finished drawing is copied or swapped before starting the next drawing. In triple buffering the program has two back buffers and can immediately start drawing in the one that is not involved in such copying. But with triple buffering if you're in a situation where you can take advantage of the third buffer doesn't that suggest that you are drawing frames faster than the monitor can refresh. So then you don't actually get a higher frame rate. So what is the benefit of triple buffering then?

For example, I have a model Article, containing a file upload(a picture). class Article include Mongoid::Document field :title, :type => String field :content, :type => String mount_uploader :asset, AssetUploader end But I would like to only store the file once, in the case where I'll upload many times the same file for differents articles. I saw GridFS has a MD5 checksum. What would be the best way to prevent duplication of identicals files ? Thanks

  • Which knowledge base/rule-based inference engine to choose for real time Runway incursion prevention

    Hello, we are designing a project that would listen to dialog between airport controllers and pilots to prevent runway incursions (eg. one airplane is taking off while other is crossing the runway). Our professor wants us to use Jena for knowledge base (or anything else but it should be some sort of rule-based engine). Inference is not the main thing in Jena and there's not much documentation and examples of this. So we need an engine that would get messages from pilots as input and output possible risks of incursion or any other error in message protocol. It should be easy to write rules, and should be easy to provide engine with real time data. I image it something like this: A pilot sends a message that he lands on some runway, the system remembers that the runway is busy and no one should cross it If someone is given an instruction to cross this runway, the engine should fire a rule that something is wrong When the pilot sends a message that he left the runway and goes to the gate, the system clears the runway and lets other planes to use it. So is Jena, or prolog or any other rules engine suitable for this? I mean it is suitable, but do we really need to use it? I asked the prof. if we could just keep state of the runway and use some simple checks based on messages we receive and he said that it is not scalable and we need the knowledge base. Can someone give me any advise on which approach to use for this system? If you recommend k.b., then which one should we use? The project is written in java. Thank you.

  • jQuery hold form submit until "continue" button pressed

    I am trying to submit a form, which I have had working, but have now modified it to include a modal jQuery UI box, so that it won't submit until the user presses "continue". I've had various problems with this, including getting the form to hold until that button is pressed, but I think I have found a solution to that, but implementing it, I am getting a SyntaxError which I can't find the source of. With the help of kevin B managed to find the answer was the form was submitting, but the returned JSON response wasn't quite formatted right. The response was that the form wasn't being submitted, so that problem is still occurring. So updated the code with the provided feedback, now need to find out why the form isnt submitting. I know its something to do with the 2nd function isnt recognising the submit button has been pressed, so need to know how to submit that form data without the form needing to be submitted again.     Hi, I'm developing a web app where users can response to blog entries. This is a security problem because they can send dangerous data that will be rendered to other users (and executed by javascript). They can't format the text they send. No "bold", no colors, no nothing. Just simple text. I came up with this regex to solve my problem: [^\\w\\s.?!()] So anything that is not a word character (a-Z, A-Z, 0-9), not a whitespace, ".", "?", "!", "(" or ")" will be replaced with an empty string. Than every quatation mark will be replaced with: "&quot". I check the data on the front end and I check it on my server. Is there any way somebody could bypass this "solution"? I'm wondering how StackOverflow does this thing? There are a lot of formatting here so they must do a good work with it.
