  • I just don't know what it is, tried everything, IE 7 bug

    - by Emmy
    Has anyone seen this bug? I have a sidebar with a ul nav background image for the hover state, floated right, looks great in all browsers. Then...I added another div underneath it for ad space. inside, there's an anchored image. That image tucks underneath the background image of the nav, but only in IE7 (i abandoned trying to please ie6). So I took it out of the sidebar, played with float, display,height hacks, but nothing works I can declare a large top margin with some more top padding do get it to clear but it breaks the design. i even tried creating a div called clear and put a top margin there. so it displays with this huge gap in chrome, FF, safari but this tiny space between in IE. i even tried creating a div called clear and put a top margin there. I have spent hours trying to find someone with the same problem but to no avail. Any suggestions? Here's a code snippet: <div id="leftsidebar"> <div id="leftnav"> <ul class="slidenav" id="sidenav"> <li id="overview" class="inactive"> <a href="expat.html">expat lifestyle</a> </li> <li id="tips" class="inactive"> <a href="traveltips.html">travel tips</a> </li> <li id="bts" class="inactive"> <a href="bts-mrt.html">bts/mrt</a> </li> <li id="bus" class="inactive"> <a href="bus.html">bus system</a> </li> <li id="van" class="inactive"> <a href="taxi.html">vans/taxis</a> </li> <li id="boat" class="inactive"> <a href="klong.html">boats/klong</a> </li> <li id="boat" class="inactive"> <a href="klong.html">boats/klong</a> </li> <li id="tuk" class="inactive"> <a href="tuk.html">tuk-tuks</a> </li> <li id="train" class="inactive"> <a href="train.html">trains</a> </li> <li id="airport" class="inactive"> <a href="airport.html">int'l airport</a> </li> <li id="dangers" class="inactive"> <a href="dangers.html">dangers</a> </li> <li id="fun" class="inactive"> <a href="fun.html">fun places</a> </li> <li id="shopping" class="inactive"> <a href="shopping.html">shopping</a> </li> </ul> </div> </div> <div id="store"> <a href="astore.amazon.com/ten044-20"; title="Shop WIB store"> <img src="images/WIBstore.png" height="70" width="200" border="none"/> </a> </div> the corresponding CSS: #leftsidebar { float:right; width: 210px; margin: 40px 0 0 0; padding: 0; height:1%; } #store { margin: 20px 0px 0 0px; padding: 0 10px 0 0; float: right; height: 1%; display: inline; } And an image:

  • jquery select problem

    - by codedude
    Say I have an unordered list like so: <ul> <li>Some Text</li> <li>Some Text</li> <li>Some Text</li> <li>Some Text</li> </ul> I want to use jquery so that when I click a "li", the background changes to blue. So I do this: $('li').click(function() { $(this).addClass('active'); }); And the "active" class has as background of blue. However, I can't figure out how to make it so that when I click another "li", the other "li" that has a background of blue stops having a background of blue. I guess what I'm trying to say is how to make only one "li" have a background of blue at a time--using jquery.

  • Put text directly to the left of an <LI>

    - by Horace Loeb
    I have a list of songs, and I want to put the word "New!" to the left of the new songs like this: How can I do this so that all the songs line up? I.e., I want the names of songs that aren't new to line up with the names of songs that are new, not with the start of the word "New" Note that this is trivial if "New!" is an image. I.e., I set the image as the background-image of the <li> and give it some padding-left

    I have an UL list : <ul> <li data-sel='foo'></li> <li></li> <li data-sel='foo'></li> <li class='selected'></li> <li data-sel='foo'></li> </ul> I can access the first previous element of li.selected who do not have attribute data-sel=foo by using :not selector var element = $('.selected').prev("li:not([data-sel='foo'])"); But how can i access the first previous element of li.selected who have attribute data-sel=foo ?

  • Checking for length of ul and removing an li element

    - by Legend
    I am trying to remove the last <li> element from a <ul> element only if it exceeds a particular length. For this, I am doing something like this: var selector = "#ulelement" if($(selector).children().length > threshold) { $(selector + " >:last").remove(); } I don't like the fact that I have to use the selector twice. Is there a shorter way to do this? Something like a "remove-if-length-greater-than-threshold" idea. I was thinking that maybe there is a way to do this using the live() function but I have no idea how.

  • c++ Design pattern for CoW, inherited classes, and variable shared data?

    - by krunk
    I've designed a copy-on-write base class. The class holds the default set of data needed by all children in a shared data model/CoW model. The derived classes also have data that only pertains to them, but should be CoW between other instances of that derived class. I'm looking for a clean way to implement this. If I had a base class FooInterface with shared data FooDataPrivate and a derived object FooDerived. I could create a FooDerivedDataPrivate. The underlying data structure would not effect the exposed getters/setters API, so it's not about how a user interfaces with the objects. I'm just wondering if this is a typical MO for such cases or if there's a better/cleaner way? What peeks my interest, is I see the potential of inheritance between the the private data classes. E.g. FooDerivedDataPrivate : public FooDataPrivate, but I'm not seeing a way to take advantage of that polymorphism in my derived classes. class FooDataPrivate { public: Ref ref; // atomic reference counting object int a; int b; int c; }; class FooInterface { public: // constructors and such // .... // methods are implemented to be copy on write. void setA(int val); void setB(int val); void setC(int val); // copy constructors, destructors, etc. all CoW friendly private: FooDataPrivate *data; }; class FooDerived : public FooInterface { public: FooDerived() : FooInterface() {} private: // need more shared data for FooDerived // this is the ???, how is this best done cleanly? };

    - by Eric

I don't have a live preview, but I attached an image. I can get it to line up in one browser, but when I open it in the other, its off again. • How to take name in one preg_match

    - by Julianto
    Hello guys, I am trying to extract just the names result from the hypothetical HTML file below. <ul class="cat"> <li>sport</li> <li>movie</li> </ul> <ul class="person-list"> <li>name 1</li> <li>name 2</li> <li>name 3</li> <li>name 4</li> <li>name 5</li> <li>name 6</li> </ul> Ideally, the result should come in an array format like the one below: Array( name 1 , name 2 , name 3 , .......... ) OK I can easily do this with 2 regex matches but I was wondering if I can do it with just one. Thanks in advance!

  • li + float crashes IE6

    - by DMin
    I know. The dreaded ugly browser we don't want to support, but, it seems it couldn't be simpler to crash this thing. The URL The images gallery is a Joomla Plugin(Sigplus) and works fine with all other standard browsers. In IE it was not showing correctly, all the images were showing in one line vertically one below the other. But the browser would not hang or crash and the gallery worked as well. This is a Joomla plugin and I didn't want to mess with how it works, so, for IE I added a simple rule in the header : <!--[if lt IE 7]> <style> li { float:left; margin-right:5px; } </style> <![endif]--> This fixed the issue and the gallery shows up as it should. But, as you scroll down, as you reach the last row of images IE hangs and crashes. I tried deleting the last 5 images thinking it was something to do with the images themselves. But now it hangs on the current last row and crashes. Know what it could be?

I think I should be using an array to achieve the above but I'm not sure how I would set it up or how to reference certain things in the array. The other question is how can I get how many times something was repeated? The URL I have no problem with. Can anyone help me out?

  • jQuery: Main nav items selected depending on URL or page name

    - by Ricardo
    Ok, I've looked all over for a solution for this but so far I'm unable to find anything related to what I need to accomplish. What I need is very simple as far as logic goes. I have a nav bar like this one: <nav> <ul> <li><a href="download.shtml">Download</a></li> <li><a href="documentation.shtml">Documentation</a></li> <li><a href="contact.shtml">Contact</a></li> <li><a href="about.shtml">About</a></li> </ul> </nav> And the URLs of the site are straightforward: http://domain.net/download.shtml http://domain.net/documentation.shtml http://domain.net/contact.shtml http://domain.net/about.shtml Question: How can I detect which page/URL I'm on and add a class of .active to the corresponding nav item? The end result would be, for example if I'm in the Download page: <nav> <ul> <li><a href="download.shtml" class="active">Download</a></li> <li><a href="documentation.shtml">Documentation</a></li> <li><a href="contact.shtml">Contact</a></li> <li><a href="about.shtml">About</a></li> </ul> </nav> Thanks in advance for any help on this matter.

  • drop down menu will not display outside containing div in IE7..

    - by playahabana
    I am tearing my hair out over this, I have a dropdown menu using CSS and jQuery (thanks to Soh Tanaka) and it works perfectly in Firefox, Safari, Google chrome and I.E. 8, but in IE 7 it will not drop down outside the 'Banner div'. It drops below the nav div however. I have moved the nav div higher in the banner the result is the same, menu drops until it reaches the border of the banner div and then vanishes.... Below is the css. This is my first website and I have some limited understanding of what I am doing. The drop down menu includes transparent png's as links (I know, I know...but it's what the Boss wants...) please could someone take a quick scan at the below CSS and let me know what is wroong? Is this some form of the IE z-index bug? i have tried all different combinations of z-index and still I can't get a different result. . The html is below as well. • CSS Positioning Issues: Wordpress

    - by cam
    I'm following this tutorial here http://www.kriesi.at/archives/create-a-multilevel-dropdown-menu-with-css-and-improve-it-via-jquery on adding a menu with jquery. I've created my menu, but I'm having trouble adding it to wordpress. I opened up the header.php file since I want it to appear below the banner, and I paste it in it's own div, but it always "pushes" everything below it to the right. How do I stop it from doing this? Here's the code: <ul id="nav"> <li><a href="#">1 HTML</a></li> <li><a href="#">2 CSS</a></li> <li><a href="#">3 Javascript</a> <ul> <li><a href="#">3.1 jQuery</a> <ul> <li><a href="#">3.1.1 Download</a></li> <li><a href="#">3.1.2 Tutorial</a></li> </ul> </li> <li><a href="#">3.2 Mootools</a></li> <li><a href="#">3.3 Prototype</a></li> </ul> </li>

  • Z-index vs Accessibility

    - by MetalAdam
    Here's a simplification of my code that I'm having problems with, in regards to layering. <ul id="main_menu"> <li>Option 1 <ul id="submenu1"> <li>link</li> <li>link</li> <li>link</li> </ul> </li> <li>Option 2 <ul id="submenu2"> <li>link</li> <li>link</li> <li>link</li> </ul> </li> </ul> My issue is that submenu2 seems to be above Option 1. I have tried to give them appropriate z-indexes, but they don't seem to work... I'm assuming because submenu2 is a child of Option 2, and has no relevance to Option 1. Any idea of any work around that would help resolve my issue? I'm using large graphics for most of these links, so the overlapping is quite obvious.

  • Help with Collapse and Expand Accordion at same time using JQuery (demo)

    - by Evan
    I'm stuck on an Expand/Collapse accordion using JQuery. After the initial headline is clicked and it expands, if you click to another headline it will collapse the former headline completely FIRST then it will expand the headline you clicked. This collapse first then expand second technique is very distracting and what should happen is as the headline is expanding it should collapse the initial headline. What am I missing? You can experience a demo here: http://media.apus.edu/it/evan-testing/accordion.htm Below is all my work Javascript <script src="http://www.apus.edu/bin/l/y/jquery-1.3.2.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> //<!-- $(document).ready(function() { $(".accordian>li.expanded").removeClass("expanded"); $(".accordian>li h2").addClass("jse").click(function() { var doOpen = !$(this).parent().hasClass('expanded'); var openContainers = $(".accordian>li.expanded").length>0; var targetNode = this; if(openContainers) { $(".accordian>li.expanded h2") .parent() .removeClass('expanded') .end() .nextAll() .slideUp(100,function(){ if($(".accordian>li.expanded").length==0) performOpen(doOpen,targetNode); }); } else { performOpen(doOpen,targetNode); } // if containers are open, proceed on callback // else proceed immediately }).nextAll().slideUp(100); }); function performOpen(doOpen,whichNode) { if(doOpen) { $('html,body').animate({scrollTop: $(whichNode).offset().top}, 1000); //target code $(whichNode).nextAll().slideDown(100).parent().addClass('expanded'); } } //--> </script> CSS <style> .accordian { list-style : none; padding : 0px; margin : 0px; font-size : 12px; } .accordian li { list-style : none; padding : 0px; margin : 0px; } .accordian li a:hover { text-decoration : underline; } .accordian li h2 { cursor : auto; text-decoration : none; padding : 0px 0px 4px 22px; } .accordian li h2.jse { background-image : url(http://www.apus.edu/bin/m/p/toggle_arrow.gif); background-position : 4px -35px; background-repeat : no-repeat; } .accordian li h2:hover { cursor : pointer; text-decoration : underline; } .accordian li li { margin-bottom : 5px; margin-left : 0px; margin-top : 0px; padding : 0px; } .accordian li p { display : block; padding-top : 0px; padding-bottom : 15px; padding-left : 10px; margin-left : 30px; margin-top : 0px; } .accordian li ul { margin-bottom : 30px; margin-top : 0px; padding-top : 0px; padding-left : 0px; margin-left : 0px; } .accordian li.expanded h2.jse { background-position : 4px -5px; } .accordianContainer { margin-top : 0px; padding-top : 0px; } .accordianContainer h2 { padding : 3px; } .accordian_nolist { list-style : none; } </style> HTML <table height="120"><tr><td>&nbsp;</td></tr></table> <div class="accordianContainer"> <ul class="accordian"> <li><h2>Title 1 Goes here -   • jQuery: List expands on page load

    - by Hasanah
    I've been looking for something very simple: How to make a side navigation expand with animation on page load, but all the tutorial websites I usually go to don't seem to have it. The closest I could find is this jQuery sample: http://codeblitz.wordpress.com/2009/04/15/jquery-animated-collapsible-list/ I've managed to strip down the list like so: <script type="text/javascript" src="jquery-1.3.2.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(function(){ $('li') .css('pointer','default') .css('list-style','none'); $('li:has(ul)') .click(function(event){ if (this == event.target) { $(this).css('list-style', (!$(this).children().is(':hidden')) ? 'none' : 'none'); $(this).children().toggle('slow'); } return false; }) .css({cursor:'pointer', 'list-style':'none'}) .children().hide(); $('li:not(:has(ul))').css({cursor:'default', 'list-style':'none'}); }); <body> <fieldset> <legend>Collapsable List Demo</legend> <ul> <li>A - F</li> <li>G - M <ul> <li>George Kent Technology Centre</li> <li>Hampshire Park</li> <li>George Kent Technology Centre</li> <li>Hampshire Park</li> </ul> </li> <li> N - R </li> <li>S - Z</li> </ul> </fieldset> My question is: Is there any way to make this list expand on page load instead of on click? I also don't need it to collapse at all; basically I need only the animating expansion. Thank you for your time and advice. :)

  • Help with css selector for jquery

    - by NachoF
    I have this wordpress blog that has many pages with subpages that dropdown on hover.... the thing is, I dont want the pages that you hover to link to anything unless they dont have any ul with many anchors inside so just the subpages will have a href different than "#" So basically Im hacking my way through this with some simple javascript. jQuery(document).ready(function(){ jQuery("#menus li > a").attr("href","#"); }); This is selecting every a.. and I dont want that... I just want the anchors that are main pages, not subpages... heres the html so maybe you can think of a better way to select this. Ill explain first the structure is an ul with many li that have an anchor inside if the li also has a ul inside then those are subpages that will appear on hover. hence the initial anchor should have href="#" if there is no ul inside the li then the li a should keep its href. <ul id="menus"> <li> <a href="somelink">Main Page</a> //href should be changed to # <ul> <li> <a href="somelink2/">Subpage1</a> </li> <li> <a href="somelink3">Subpage2</a> </li> </ul> </li> <li> <a href="somelink">MainPage-with-no-subpages</a> //href should not be changed </li> <li> <a href="somelink4">MainPage</a> //href should be changed to # <ul> <li> <a href="somelink5">Subpage</a> </li> <li> <a href="somelink6">Subpage</a> </li> </ul> </li> </ul>

  • jQuery bind efficiency

    - by chelfers
    I'm having issue with load speed using multiple jQuery binds on a couple thousands elements and inputs, is there a more efficient way of doing this? The site has the ability to switch between product lists via ajax calls, the page cannot refresh. Some lists have 10 items, some 100, some over 2000. The issue of speed arises when I start flipping between the lists; each time the 2000+ item list is loaded the system drags for about 10 seconds. Before I rebuild the list I am setting the target element's html to '', and unbinding the two bindings below. I'm sure it has something to do with all the parent, next, and child calls I am doing in the callbacks. Any help is much appreciated. loop 2500 times <ul> <li><input type="text" class="product-code" /></li> <li>PROD-CODE</li> ... <li>PRICE</li> </ul> end loop $('li.product-code').bind( 'click', function(event){ selector = '#p-'+ $(this).prev('li').children('input').attr('lm'); $(selector).val( ( $(selector).val() == '' ? 1 : ( parseFloat( $(selector).val() ) + 1 ) ) ); Remote.Cart.lastProduct = selector; Remote.Cart.Products.Push( Remote.Cart.customerKey, { code : $(this).prev('li').children('input').attr('code'), title : $(this).next('li').html(), quantity : $('#p-'+ $(this).prev('li').children('input').attr('lm') ).val(), price : $(this).prev('li').children('input').attr('price'), weight : $(this).prev('li').children('input').attr('weight'), taxable : $(this).prev('li').children('input').attr('taxable'), productId : $(this).prev('li').children('input').attr('productId'), links : $(this).prev('li').children('input').attr('productLinks') }, '#p-'+ $(this).prev('li').children('input').attr('lm'), false, ( parseFloat($(selector).val()) - 1 ) ); return false; }); $('input.product-qty').bind( 'keyup', function(){ Remote.Cart.lastProduct = '#p-'+ $(this).attr('lm'); Remote.Cart.Products.Push( Remote.Cart.customerKey, { code : $(this).attr('code') , title : $(this).parent().next('li').next('li').html(), quantity : $(this).val(), price : $(this).attr('price'), weight : $(this).attr('weight'), taxable : $(this).attr('taxable'), productId : $(this).attr('productId'), links : $(this).attr('productLinks') }, '#p-'+ $(this).attr('lm'), false, previousValue ); });

  • Linking to a section of a site that is hidden by a hide/show JavaScript function

    - by hollyb
    I am using a bit of JavaScript to show/hide sections of a site when a tab is clicked. I'm trying to figure out if there is a way I can link back to the page and have a certain tab open based on that link. Here is the JS: var ids=new Array('section1','section2','section3','section4'); function switchid(id, el){ hideallids(); showdiv(id); var li = el.parentNode.parentNode.childNodes[0]; while (li) { if (!li.tagName || li.tagName.toLowerCase() != "li") li = li.nextSibling; // skip the text node if (li) { li.className = ""; li = li.nextSibling; } } el.parentNode.className = "active"; } function hideallids(){ //loop through the array and hide each element by id for (var i=0;i<ids.length;i++){ hidediv(ids[i]); } } function hidediv(id) { //safe function to hide an element with a specified id document.getElementById(id).style.display = 'none'; } function showdiv(id) { //safe function to show an element with a specified id document.getElementById(id).style.display = 'block'; } And the HTML <ul> <li class="active"><a onclick="switchid('section1', this);return false;">One</a></li> <li><a onclick="switchid('section2', this);return false;">Two</a></li> <li><a onclick="switchid('section3', this);return false;">Three</a></li> <li><a onclick="switchid('section4', this);return false;">Four</a></li> </ul> <div id="section1" style="display:block;"> <div id="section2" style="display:none;"> <div id="section3" style="display:none;"> <div id="section4" style="display:none;"> I haven't been able to come up with a way to link back to a specific section. Is it even possible with this method? Thanks!
