  • Configuring favicon with expires header in htaccess

    I have implemented Expires headers via mod_expires on my Apache server and have successfully created expires headers for most file types, however I am having trouble with the favicon. I initially tried adding a set of instructions for the .ico files but when checking via YSlow it has no expiry set. When this didn't work I amended it to be a GIF, however this seems to have the same issue. Other gif's on the website have correctly set expires headers (accoridng to YSlow at least). Can anyone shed any light on this situation?

  • Minimizing windows to tray in xfce

    For XFCE (v. 4.8), I'm searching for possible options to minimize windows to tray (iconify). This means that 1) they're not in the window listing and 2) they're not in the alt+TAB menu and 3) when closed, the window hides (it disappears from window listing but still stays running). "alltray" has some weird GTK-related bug (https://bugs.launchpad.net/alltray/+bug/589831; windows hide but unhiding doesn't do anything; they stay in the tray icon until the user undocks them). "trayer" complains that "another systray is already running" and there's no obvious workaround. This question here is to ask about possible minimalistic (as everything in XFCE is) solutions which don't involve manual compiling, and aren't an overkill like cairo-dock is (a rather bloated gnome-style application which creates a new large 'tray' instead of using the existing one).   • Firefox: tabs containing a single image sometimes show generic icon instead of thumbnail

    My version of Firefox is 3.5.9, but I've had this issue since single-image tabs started showing a thumbnail of the contained image. Typically, a tab containing a single image will use a thumbnail of the image as the icon before the tab title. Sometimes, though, this icon will be the generic “shaded sphere on blank page” (or perhaps whatever your theme defaults to). I'm guessing this happens whenever height or width is larger than 1024, but I seem to recall (perhaps erroneously) exceptions to this rule. Anyway, hopefully someone will know the definite answer to: Why does this happen?   • Change Computer Icon?

    After finding out adding an autorun on a flash drive to change the icon to actually look like your flash drive, then after finding out that it'd work for Hard Drives too, I started to wonder if you could change your whole computer's icon so other computers on your network could actually see your physical computer. I doubt that there's a way to do this, but if there is, it'd be pretty cool. :D

  • Gnome Desktop Icons Alignment

    Hi all. It has been a long time since I started to compare the gnome desktop to the windows desktop. But since I began to use linux, I realized that the "gnome way" to align the icons on Desktop is not that nice for me. And comparing to Windows's way, windows is better for me. (remember, for me). I'd like to know if anyone has some tip to make "gnome desktop icon alignment" more like windows do. I tried to reduce the icon's size, did something, but was not that all. So, could anyone tell another tip? I like when I put something on windows desktop, and wherever I put the file, Windows organize the file and put the icon right after the last icon (in a cascade style) (and automatically). Any tips?

  • Adding Street View controls (the two icons just above the +) to a Google Map (v3)

    It's probably something really simple, but I can't find it in the docs and I can't find a map with it to check it's source... I use version 3 of the API. I would like to have the two Street View controls icons too. If you want full source, I'm using this example as a base (how would you add Street View controls to this example?).

    I thought the pictures associated with our profiles were automatically generated until they were manually changed. A lot of people have these cool identicons based on their IP address. How can I get my own identicon? I am looking for an online generator. Gravator does not seem to have any options to generate identicons. Edit: I will probably accept your answer if you just tell me how you made your identicon (and it did not involve downloading/installing stuff)

  • How can I make the icon font color on a windows 7 prof desktop work?

    I have C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper\Scenes\img25.jpg as wallpaper (I think it's a standard windows wallpaper.) The desktop icon font color is white. It cannot be read without heavy eye pain. I want it to be black. I couldn't change the icon font color in advanced properties (ie the good old window color settings dialog) for aero for windows 7 professional x32. I've heard that the icon font color should change automatically to suit my needs, it doesn't work as advertised in my scenario. How could I fix it and rescue my eyes from popping out?   • how do I delete my alternate drive icon on the ubuntu desktop?

    I'm on a system with a Windows drive and an Ubuntu drive (both physical, not virtual). Under the Ubuntu Places menu, there is a "320 GB file system" which is the Windows disk. The same drive also appears as an icon on the desktop (but unlike everything else on the desktop, it does not appear in the directory listing of ~/Desktop). I think the icon was put on the desktop by accident and I never use it because the Places menu suffices. How can I delete this icon? Selecting then deleting does not work.

  • Identify what's painting the empty space in my Windows notification area?

    I have an "icon" in my Windows (XP, if it matters) notification area (by the clock) which renders no image, but rather an empty square space (no borders -- nothing rendered at all in the space where you'd expect an icon). Upon mousing over this space, it immediately collapses (disappears), preventing me from gathering any information about it. I'm assuming the collapse (on mouseover) indicates the process is no longer running. How can I learn what process is painting this "void" in my notification area? I don't control the workstation, so I can't control what launches when.

  • Google Chrome 'ruined' after someone else logged in

    Google Chrome was the default browser that came with my laptop. I have a Google account which I was logged into Chrome with. Someone else logged into my chrome using their account which has resulted in everything being lost. I logged in again to find my theme, bookmarks, history, most visited sites were gone and now instead of 'piling up' under the symbol already pinned to the Windows 7 task bar it opens a second symbol on the taskbar and 'piles up' under that instead which has never happened before. I have tried unpinning and repinning which didn't work. I have tried syncing my account numerous times to no avail, I have searched high and low on the Chrome forums for any kind of answer. I have tried accessing that thing in documents to try and recover my bookmarks but I can't find them (I had hidden files enabled etc etc). I really really want it back how it was as I had a lot of bookmarked sites and quick access to sites and everything was how i used it, and I hate that it now opens a new icon on the taskbar.

  • Eclipse: The icons in "Display View" are all greyed out

    The discussion here describes the "display view" in eclipse which allows one to to quickly evaluate java expressions. The thing is, when I open the display view the icons remain greyed out and I can't execute anything. The only icon that isn't is "clear console". The odd thing is, alot of the screenshots on the web show the same behaviour but the people posting about the feature don't mentioned it. There aren't any options in the context sensitive menu either. I'm trying it on a java project. I've tried it in the debug view and I get the same issue. I'll provide a screenshot once my hosting is sorted. I'm using eclipse 3.4.

  • Why can't I change the icon being displayed for a desktop shortcut?

    I wanted to change the icon showing for a shortcut on the desktop, which points to a .Net utility I created for myself. I rebuilt the exe after changing the icon used within the project. In Windows Explorer the new icon shows in all size variations for the exe. In the 'Change Icon' dialog from the Properties option, the correct icon is showing as present, yet when I Apply it remains with the old icon? Even when I delete the shortcut and create a new one pointing to the newly built exe the old icon somehow is assigned?

    Need some help assigning a mouseover event to display some icons that start out hidden. For every <li> in the ul, I have icons. When the user mouses over the <li> I want the span tag with a class called "icons" to be displayed. When the mouse out event occurs remove the class and/or just hide the span. The problem for me is how to assign event so just the span tag and its contents appear and disapear when the mouse hovers over the <li>.   • Storage location of yellow-blue shield icon

    Where, in Windows, is this icon stored? I need to use it in a TaskDialog emulation for XP and am having a hard time tracking it down. It's not in shell32.dll, explorer.exe, ieframe.dll or wmploc.dll (as these contain a lot of icons commonly used in Windows).
