And do I need any extra configuration to let Spring handle ejb annotations? I don't want to write any concurrency logic myself.   • Why can I resolve this hostname but not a cname to this hostname?

    if a run dig against a hostname, i get the according cname, however i get an NXDOMAIN error (non existent domain). if i run dig against the cname i got, I can resolve it to an IP address successfully. It is reproduceable. On the system I am currently on it is always the case, on other systems it sometimes works and sometimes not, and on other systems it seems to work all the time. If i run using a nameserver i specify (for example googles public nameserver) i can successfully resolve the hostname. i would just blame the local system, but it seems i am not having the only one problems the 2nd domain (unrestrict.me) is hosted on amazon route 53 nameservers. the 1st one on another dns server which has proofen to be fully functional and reliable over the years. i once switchted with the other domain to amazon dns as well, everything seemed to work, also various dns health check tests reported fine, however i recieved a lot of support tickets that dns resolution would not work. is amazon just "bad" or am i doing something wrong? i did not tamper with the domain in any way on the local system (in case of caching or making a custom dns view or whatever...) joe@joe:~$ dig scorpion.premiumize.me ; <<>> DiG 9.8.1-P1 <<>> scorpion.premiumize.me ;; global options: +cmd ;; Got answer: ;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: NXDOMAIN, id: 10222 ;; flags: qr rd ra; QUERY: 1, ANSWER: 1, AUTHORITY: 0, ADDITIONAL: 0 ;; QUESTION SECTION: ;scorpion.premiumize.me.   • What file or directory is unique to Plesk and unlikely to change in the future?

    I am writing a program that needs to be able to detect the presence of various web hosting control panels. I don't use Plesk, or have access to a server running Plesk, so I am unable to ascertain what file or directory I could test for to reliably conclude that the system is running Plesk. What file or directory indicates "Yes, this has Plesk installed" that is unlikely to ever change in the future, but would be present on all versions of Plesk out in the wild? Thanks in advance :)

Everything else should be avoided. For example the tag "Fred Kej" did not have any "date" tag before it, therefore, it should be flagged as invalid.   • Why did windows change the elevation requirements of my AutoHotKey script, and how can I prevent such in the future?

    I was working on an AutoHotKey (AHK) script to create prefab mouse movements for a very simple model viewer. I worked on it for a good hour. I zipped the script, posted it to a forum, and thought "oh hey, I should add bla bla bla to the script". When I returned to the program, the AHK script would not work. I could see the mouse movements working in other programs (notepad, chrome, etc), but not where I had been working the previous hour. After several hours of throwing darts at the troubleshooting wall, I discovered that the fix was to set the AHK.exe to Run as Administrator. The question here are multiple Why did Windows 7, in all it's wisdom, suddenly decide that elevation was necessary in the middle of usage? Can these permission requirements somehow be reverted by, say, removing a key from the registry or something? How can this kind of Windows behaviour be avoided in the future?

I don't want to put many constraints on him, though I wouldn't mind isolating the site that he'll be developing from others on the server that I will develop. The problem Mainly what I want is to make sure that I retain control over the server in the future. I want to reserve the ability to create/promote/demote and other administrative functions that don't deal with web software. If I make him an admin, he can sudo su - and become root and remove root control from me, for example. What is a good setup for the sudoers file so that he can do things like: *install software (through apt-get) restart apache access mysql configure mysql/apache reboot edit web development configuration type files in /etc * And can't do things like: take away other admin permissions change the root password have control over other security/administrative functions Example sudoer files that accomplish something like that could be useful, I'm sure that people have needed to do this before.

For the last 7/8 or so years I have almost exlusively used laptops, and so have fallen behind a bit with knowledge of various hardware technologies. Anyway, now I'm considering building a new desktop machine. Mainly for development work, but also would be nice to do a bit of gaming. The two main criteria are: I would like the first build to be relatively low cost. I would like to select components that will allow me to upgrade in the future without throwing too much away.     Hi, I want to find out if I can get some data on the percentage wise distribution of video content, for different video codecs currently used for video encoding. I know there are different applications/use-case scenarios which have different encoder used but i want to consdier all that and have a overall usage number(%) My guess is(highest to lowest % of content) - H.264(AVC) DivX MPEG2 VP6 Where do H.263, MPEG4, VC-1, RV, Theora, etc. fit in here.     Do the search requests made by the users influence the Google crawlers "attraction" by this keyword? Let's say Google has some hits on a specific keyword in the search index. And now I search for exactly this keyword. Will the Google crawlers react to the search and keep looking more intense for pages that could match this keyword? A reason why this could be important: Privacy when searching yourself. Assume you just want to know how much Google (and thus other people) can find out about you. If now any (statistical) additional search for your name trigger the crawlers even one step harder to find even more about you, it would have the negative effect that you would actually be found easier in the future, even though you had the intention and hope to find out how few Google finds about you. It's a bit like the dillema in quantum mechanis: Does observing the system automatically change the system?

  • iPhone: Core Data: Updating a pre-filled database in future app versions.

    I am creating an app with a database of information that needs to be pre-filled. This data will change in future versions. In the same database, I also need to store user editable information since that user edited data directly relates to the pre-filled data. My question is, if I'm pre-filling the database by creating a duplicate data model in a second app and copying over the core data file before release, how would I handle updates to that data in future versions of the app without destroying the user's existing data? Do the core data migration methods handle this, or must I write custom methods to programatically handle the merge at first app launch?

  • Which is the future of web development: HTML5 or Silverlight(or other RIA framework)?

    My colleagues have a heated debate on what is the future of web development. One side is supporting HTML5 and the other is supporting Silverlight. There is no conclusion of the debate yet. In my humble opinion as a programmer, HTML5 will not improve programming productivity, while Silverlight will. In my understanding, programmers still need to program in JavaScript to take advantage of HTML5. For Silverlight, we can use C# which is static-type language. A lot of coding defects can be found in compilation time. For HTML5, different browsers might still have different behavior even though there is spec. For Silverlight, generally what works in IE will work the same way in other browsers. Just my thoughts. Any idea on how to choose future direction of web development?

    The recent article of steve jobs link made me think about the future of flash. I'm learning actionscript 3.0 in my studies but is it the right decision still to go for it? I was pretty sure that I will be able to build application in as3 for iphones/ipads in the near future. It seems to me, while I would stay with flash, the market will be polarized by apple and adobe and you will always work double for both clientele, or just lose half of them. Which decision would you take as a designer, if you were still at university and you intend to become a freelancer?

  • Will iPhone App with future "Availability Date" show up in "New Releases" on that day?

    I plan to submit my first iPhone game "The Twiggles" to the iPhone app store today. Like many people suggest, I want to set the "Availability Date" to a date way in the future and change it later. But there are two different opinions on what to do once the app is approved: A: Some people say, I have to quickly change the "Availability Date" to the date the app is approved by Apple right after I get the "app approved" mail. Otherwise it won't show up in the "New Releases" list. B: Some people say, this is not necessary (or maybe no longer necessary). I can set the "Availability Date" to some date in the future (for example, next weekend). The app will be released on that day and will show up in the "New Releases" list on that day. Who is right?

  • Permissions issue Mac OS X Client -> Mac OS X Server

    I can't get access to a folder on our server and can't understand why. Perhaps someone will see what I'm overlooking... Trouble accessing /Library/Subdirectory/NextDirectory/ User joe can ssh to the server just fine and cd to /Library/Subdirectory/ however trying to cd into the next folder, NextDirectory, gives this error: -bash: cd: NextDirectory/: Permission denied both username joe & bill are members of the group admin and both can get INTO Subdirectory without any trouble... hostname:Library joe$ ls -l | grep Subdirectory drwxrwxr-x 3 bill admin 102 Jun 1 14:51 Subdirectory and from w/in the Subversion folder hostname:Subdirectory joe$ ls -l drwxrwx--- 5 root admin 170 Jun 1 22:19 NextDirectory bill can cd into NextDirectory but joe cannot!?! What am I overlooking? What tools do we have to troubleshoot this? thanks!

I need him not to be able to: take away other admin permissions change the root password have control over other security/administrative functions I would like him to still be able to: install software (through apt-get) restart apache access mysql configure mysql/apache reboot edit web development configuration type files in /etc/ Other Standard Setups would be happily considered I've never really set up a good sudoers file, so simple example setups would be very useful, even if they're only somewhat similar to the settings that I'm hoping for above. Edit: I have not yet finalized permissions, standard, useful sudo setups are certainly an option, the lists above are more what I'm hoping I can do, I don't know that that setup can be done.

  • Attempted hack on VPS, how to protect in future, what were they trying to do?

    UPDATE: They're still here. Help me stop or trap them! Hi SF'ers, I've just had someone hack one of my clients sites. They managed to get to change a file so that the checkout page on the site writes payment information to a text file. Fortunately or unfortunately they stuffed up, the had a typo in the code, which broke the site so I came to know about it straight away. I have some inkling as to how they managed to do this: My website CMS has a File upload area where you can upload images and files to be used within the website. The uploads are limited to 2 folders. I found two suspicious files in these folders and on examining the contents it looks like these files allow the hacker to view the server's filesystem and upload their own files, modify files and even change registry keys?! I've deleted some files, and changed passwords and am in the process of trying to secure the CMS and limit file uploads by extensions. Anything else you guys can suggest I do to try and find out more details about how they got in and what else I can do to prevent this in future?

  • Database PK-FK design for future-effective-date entries?

    Ultimately I'm going to convert this into a Hibernate/JPA design. But I wanted to start out from purely a database perspective. We have various tables containing data that is future-effective-dated. Take an employee table with the following pseudo-definition: employee id INT AUTO_INCREMENT ... data fields ... effectiveFrom DATE effectiveTo DATE employee_reviews id INT AUTO_INCREMENT employee_id INT FK employee.id Very simplistic. But let's say Employee A has id = 1, effectiveFrom = 1/1/2011, effectiveTo = 1/1/2099. That employee is going to be changing jobs in the future, which would in theory create a new row, id = 2 with effectiveFrom = 7/1/2011, effectiveTo = 1/1/2099, and id = 1's effectiveTo updated to 6/30/2011. But now, my program would have to go through any table that has a FK relationship to employee every night, and update those FK to reference the newly-effective employee entry. I have seen various postings in both pure SQL and Hibernate forums that I should have a separate employee_versions table, which is where I would have all effective-dated data stored, resulting in the updated pseudo-definition below: employee id INT AUTO_INCREMENT employee_versions id INT AUTO_INCREMENT employee_id INT FK employee.id ... data fields ... effectiveFrom DATE effectiveTo DATE employee_reviews id INT AUTO_INCREMENT employee_id INT FK employee.id Then to get any actual data, one would have to actually select from employee_versions with the proper employee_id and date range. This feels rather unnatural to have this secondary "versions" table for each versioned entity. Anyone have any opinions, suggestions from your own prior work, etc? Like I said, I'm taking this purely from a general SQL design standpoint first before layering in Hibernate on top. Thanks!

  • Cucumber failed scenarios not providing details (Ubuntu)

    When I run cucumber from my Ubuntu server I don't get details on why the scenario is failing.   • Using the apostrophe for PHP associative array element's name

    Hi I've been trying to figure out how to put something like Joe's Fruits into a PHP array something like this: <?php $arr = array( 'Fruitland' => '3ddlskdf3', 'Joe's Fruits' => 'dddfdfer3', ); ?> Using the above for example (stackoverflow's code color should tell you this by now), the array will take it as 'Joe' between the two apostrophes instead of the whole 'Joe's Fruits' is there any way I can do this without just calling it 'Joes Fruits'?
