  • OBIEE 11.1.1 - Disable Wrap Data Types in WebLogic Server 10.3.x

    By default, JDBC data type’s objects are wrapped with a WebLogic wrapper. This allows for features like debugging output and track connection usage to be done by the server. The wrapping can be turned off by setting this value to false. This improves performance, in some cases significantly, and allows for the application to use the native driver objects directly. Tip: How to Disable Wrapping in WLS Administration Console You can use the Administration Console to disable data type wrapping for following JDBC data sources in bifoundation_domain domain: Data Source Name bip_datasource mds-owsm EPMSystemRegistry   To disable wrapping for each JDBC data source (as stated in above table): 1.     If you have not already done so, in the Change Center of the Administration Console, click Lock & Edit. 2.     In the Domain Structure tree, expand Services, then select Data Sources. 3.     On the Summary of Data Sources page, click the data source name for example “mds-owsm”. 4.     Select the Configuration: Connection Pool tab. 5.     Scroll down and click Advanced to show the advanced connection pool options. 6.     In Wrap Data Types, deselect the checkbox to disable wrapping. 7.     Click Save. 8.     To activate these changes, in the Change Center of the Administration Console, click Activate Changes. Important Note: This change does not take effect immediately—it requires the server be restarted.

  • Password Management for Oracle WebLogic customers

    One of the most common requests for enhancements I get across my desk is that customers wish to allow end users to change their passwords from our products. Now, typically password management is not in the realm of individual applications but it is an infrastructure requirement, so we don't usually add this to our roadmaps by default. The issue is that with the vast range of security stores that can be used with our product line across the Web Application Servers we support, it is almost impossible to come up with a generic enough API to work across them. If you have a specific security store on a specific Web Application Server platform then there are simpler solutions. There are a number of ways of implementing this without providing functionality specific functionality: Oracle sells Identity Management software that offers common API's to manage passwords. You can purchase those products and link to the password change dialog in those products using Navigation Keys. If you are a customer using Oracle WebLogic, then there is a sample JSP's that can be linked to provide this functionality under Oracle TechNet (registration required) under Code Samples (project S20). These can be added as a Navigation Key to complete the functionality. This will allow end users to manage their own passwords. Obviously these are all samples and should be treated as customizations when you implement them. If you wish to understand Navigation Keys, then look at the Oracle Utilities Application Framework Integration Guidelines (Doc Id: 789060.1) available from My Oracle Support.

  • Set up Work Manager Shutdown Trigger in WebLogic Server 10.3.4 Using WLST

    WebLogic Server's Work Managers provide a way to control work and allocated threads. You can set different scheduling guidelines for different applications, depending on your requirements. There is a default self-tuning Work Manager, but you might want to set up a custom work manager in some circumstances: for example, when you want the server to prioritize one application over another when a response time goal is required, or when a minimum thread constraint is needed to avoid deadlock. The Work Manager Shutdown Trigger is a tool to help with stuck threads in which will do the following: Shut down the Work Manager. Move the application to Admin State (not active). Change the Server instance health state to failed. Example of a Shutdown Trigger set on the config.xml for your domain: <work-manager>   <name>stuckthread_workmanager</name>   <work-manager-shutdown-trigger>     <max-stuck-thread-time>30</max-stuck-thread-time>     <stuck-thread-count>2</stuck-thread-count>   </work-manager-shutdown-trigger> </work-manager> Understand that any misconfiguration on the Work Manager can lead to poor performance on the server. Any changes must be done and tested before going to production. How can one create a WorkManagerShutdownTrigger for WLS 10.3.4 using WLST?     In order to configure the time zone with WebLogic Server, use the following JVM startup command: -Duser.timezone=<timezone> For example, in the java arguments in the admin console at Environments -> Servers -> Servername -> - Server Start tab, configure the startup settings that Node Manager will use to start the particular server.   • Migrating WebLogic 10.3.0 to new host. Slow managed server startup times

    We are migrating our Blue Martini Commerce application (only supported on WebLogic 10.3.0) to a new host (Redhat 6.3 on a VMWare ESX vm). We are seeing extremely slow start up times for our managed server(s) that is basically 20x slower than our current production. As a for instance the Publish managed server takes ~30 - 45 seconds in current production and in the new environment it takes ~10 minutes. The setup uses the same domain structure and JVM as the current production environment. The same setup files are used. We use jdk1.6.0_33 on 64 bit architecture. We used the generic 64bit weblogic installer and used pack / unpack utilities to migrate the domain. The JAVA_OPTS to start this server are: "-d64 -Xms256m -Xmx512m -XX:PermSize=48m -XX:MaxPermSize=256m" The sysadmins have checked /etc/sysctl.conf and /etc/limits.conf to ensure we were not hitting some kind of process limit. As I am not sure what this managed server does from a Blue Martini perspective during the phase of startup I also had the DBA check to ensure that Oracle RAC (11.2.0.3) wasn't also hitting some kind of process limit or if there was a tns listener issue. The new host is quite a bit stricter with their server lock downs so there are a few differences.... Redhat 6.3 in new env, RH 5.7 in current SElinux is targeted in new env and disabled in current VM in new env and dedicated hardware in current iptables disabled in current. It was enabled in new prod but I had them disable it just in case I apologize for not being more specific. I am mostly hoping got some tips. I do not have the typical root access I would normally have in this environment. I am just hoping got a path forward. I did a few 'kill -3' to see if there are blocked threads and I got nadda. The service works for all intents and purposes it is just painfully slow. Thanks you all in advance for reading and best regards. Wade

  • How to force Weblogic to start deployments in active state (i.e. not just prepared)

    When I start a Weblogic instance with a deployed application, the deployment is sometimes left in prepared state, not in active state. I have to go to Weblogic Console and start the deployment manually, which is quite slow and annoying repetetive work. Since this is done on a development machine — sometimes 50 times a day, — there are no security implication as the server is only visible on the local network. Is there some way to have it always start the deployment active? Note that I'm not redeploying the application, I instead have it "constantly deployed" and stop/start the Weblogic instance using the scripts in bin directory.

  • Is there a difference between starting a WebLogic Admin Server through the command-line or through t

    I have WebLogic 11g installed on my machine under /srv/wls, and I start Node manager on it with /srv/wls/wlserver_10.3/server/bin/startNodeManager.sh. I create my domain with config.sh, and then I want to start the Admin Server of that domain with Node Manager. So I open a WLST session and do the following: > nmConnect(...) > nmStart('AdminServer') But when I then visit localhost:7001/console, and login, the screen on the browser remains blank and the server logs tell me the server has run out of PermGen space. I don't encounter this problem when starting the Admin Server through the shell script under $DOMAIN/startWebLogic.sh. Then it works fine. Any idea what I am doing wrong? I couldn't find anything in Google nor on the Oracle forums...

I only have a basic understanding of the benefits of doing this but I'm told by security people that it's a Good Thing (tm) Our app is running under JDK1.6.05 and WebLogic10.3.0 After way too much digging around Oracle's website for documentation, I've found good evidence that the first version of WebLogic to support http-only cookies is 10.3.1. By "support," I mean the cookie-http-only deployment-descriptor element. Before we go about upgrading, I'd be nice to have these questions answered: 1a) Is it accurate that WL10.3.1 is the first version to support http-only cookies and that we're out of luck with 10.3.0? 1b) If we do indeed need to upgrade, is there an easy to do so under Windows? I've heard people mention an "upgrade jar" that you just stick in the classpath but I can't find any mention of this by Oracle. Does an easy way exist, or do we need to do a full-install of the new version? 2) What does the cookie-http-only deployment-descriptor element do when enabled? Will it ensure all cookies set by the application have an http-only=true attribute? Will it do more or less?   • Cannot cd to parent directory with cd dirname

    I have made a bash command which generates a one liner for restarting all Weblogic ( 8,9,10) instances on a server /usr/ucb/ps auwwx | grep weblogic | tr ' ' '\n' | grep security.policy | grep domain | awk -F'=' '{print $2}' | sed 's/weblogic.policy//' | sed 's/security\///' | sort | sed 's/^/cd /' | sed 's/$/ ; cd .. ; \/recycle_script_directory_path\/recycle/ ;' | tr '\n' ' ' To restart a Weblogic instance, the recycle ( /recycle_script_directory_path/recycle/) script needs to be initiated from within the domain directory as the recycle script pulls some application information from some .ini files in the domain directory. The following part of the script generates a line to cd to the parent directory of the app i.e. the domain directory sed 's/$/ ; cd .. ; \/recycle_script_directory\/recycle/ ;' | tr '\n' ' ' I am sure there is a better way to cd to the parent directory like cd dirname but every time i run the following cd command , it throws a "Variable syntax" error. cd $(dirname '/domain_directory_path/app_name') How do i incorporate the cd to the directory name in a better way ? Also are there any enhancements for my bash command Some info on my script 1) The following part lists out the weblogic instances running along with their full path /usr/ucb/ps auwwx | grep weblogic | tr ' ' '\n' | grep security.policy | grep domain | awk -F'=' '{print $2}' | sed 's/weblogic.policy//' | sed 's/security\///' | sort 2) The grep domain part is required since all domain names have domain as the suffix
