  • Issues with upgrade to ubuntu 14.04

    First, I should say that I am a total beginner. When answering, please do not take for granted that I understand even the most basic step. Now for my question: Yesterday, I was given the option to update to ubuntu 14.04. I clicked yes, and the system took about 2.5 hours to accomplish this task. Now, whenever I log into my user account, I get an error message and then I am asked to authenticate my user account. When I try to enter the password, my computer freezes. Please help, what can I do to fix this?

  • How do you diagnose constant crashing issues?

    My recent installation 10.10 on my laptop keeps freezing/crashing on start-up after working perfectly for one day. The system just freezes, like a screnshot, and a restart is required. It happens directly after login or just as any application is selected. Nothing new has been installed. I have just moved from XP so I would be very grateful if some one could please explain to me, as simply as possible, how to do the following... How to diagnose the problem so it can be fixed, remember it may have to be before the log in. all help is greatly appreciated.

  • HP mini 210 touchpad issues

    Need help in getting the right mouse click to work on a HP mini 210-1015TU when using the touchpad. If I plug in a USB mouse, both left click and right click function as normal. Using the touchpad however I can only get the left click to work. Attempting to right click gives the result expected from a left click. As per some comments on a forum I added a file 11-touchpad.conf to /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d. I can provide further details if required. This made touchpad operation noticeably smoother but the problem with the right mouse click remains. Not a hardware problem as right clicked worked with 10.04 and still works with Windows 7 starter. 10.10 installed using wubi.

    Do you use E-mail Center Auto-Processing functionality?  Auto-processing rules can be defined which will process an email and initiate actions such as sending an auto-reply, auto-acknowledgement or service request update or creation.  If you're using auto-processing in your environment, then you will have noticed that, when things go wrong, often the only indication that there is an issue is if the email goes to the Supervisor Queue for manual processing instead of being sent.  Oracle Development has developed a script to help you debug when an email is meant to be auto-processed but is failing. There are scripts for R12.0.6 through to R12.1.3. See Doc ID 1427925.1 for details of the script and how to use it.

    I was trying to see the effect of time slicing. And how it can consume significant amount of time. Actually, I was trying to divide a certain work into number of threads and see the effect. I have a two core processor. So two threads can run in parallel. I was trying to see if I have a work w that is done by 2 threads, and if I have the same work done by t threads with each thread doing w/t of the work. How much does time slicing play a role in it As time slicing is time consuming process, I was expecting that when I do the same work using a two thread process or by a t thread process, the amount of time taken by the t thread process will be more Any suggestions?

    A workforce management software has complex GUI (for example values in a page depends on the status (closed or open) of other pages). Only latest and near past development has test coverage. During our last release, we received lots of bugs from customer in-spite of 2 weeks of testing Sprint . We don't have dedicated test team. The developers does the unit test & User acceptance test. Every day triggers automated regression test. I am afraid the developers are not testing the entire workflow because its time consuming also not able to automate it because of its complexity. Any suggestions ?. The legacy code (15 yrs development) has less code coverage. How can I improve quality ? Note: Now not possible to hire testers to have independent test team!!

  • Keyboard Issues After Resuming From Sleep on a Dell Vostro 13

    I'm using Ubuntu 11.10 x64. It's running on my Dell Vostro V13. Everything works great until I shut the lid of my laptop (puts laptop into sleep). Once I come back and resume working in Ubuntu, typing becomes a chore. Ubuntu misses a lot of the keypresses from my keyboard. It usually results in me mashing my keyboard until the letter appears. A full system reboot fixes the problem. Again, typing is never an issue unless I resume from sleep. Any ideas?

  • Basic Android game loop having issues

    I've set up a very basic game loop that should draw a circle, run 100 times, then draw another. I also have a text field that should display how many times the loop has ran. However, the screen seems to not update. It displays a different value for the tick count (different each time the app is ran) and simply stays there. After exiting the app, I get an error saying "Unfortunately, MyApp has stopped."   • Network/browser issues after upgrade to 12.04

    I let my laptop upgrade to 12.04. And have no network afterwards. I went through all the articles I could find in google. Right now, I can ping google, and yahoo, but not cnn.com for example or anything else. Firefox says it can't reach google.com or gmail.com (or anything, not even IP. /etc/network/interfaces dns-nameservers 8.8.8.8 <<<<<added auto lo iface lo inet loopback /etc/dhcp/dhclient.conf #prepend domain-name-servers 8.8.8.8,8.8.4.4; prepend domain-name-servers 127.0.0.1; <<<<< tried both /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf with and without dns=dnsmasq commented out. I can ping my wireless router and connect to it just fine. Have tried proxy/noproxy. This looks like After Upgrade to 12.04 - cannot connect to network but no answer there. I would hate to do a fresh install. Any assistance appreciated.

To the point ------------------------------------------ After upgrading from 13.10 to 14.4 my sound was lost. Even I've tryied several sugestions from you (and other helpers) I've got nothing. My dual (UBUNTU/WINDOWS) Desktop sound works fine in windows!!!(damm!!) my DELL Inspiration laptop sound works fine in UBUNTU 14.4 LTS. ¿?¿? Do anybody knows Which is actually the origin of the problem? Is there any solution diferent to assay-error metodology? Is'nt every newer version of UBUNTU enough double checked before releasing it?   • Upgraded from ubuntu 12.04 to 12.10 issues

    I recently upgraded 12.04 to 12.10 ubuntu and then all hell broke loose. Being more specific, I have a Compaq machine and its hard disk is partitioned into 3 parts, so when I installed Ubuntu 10.04, I installed it in windows, since then have upgraded with each new ubuntu release via the update manager without any problems. I have installed the 64 bit versions. 12.10 downloaded via update manager, and initial downloading of packages was without problems, however, as it tried to install the packages, error messages appeared. The first was one about missing lib files, but I clicked to continue, since I am a relative novice on ubuntu. It continued, and during the restart process, when it was powering down, the computer hanged on the shutting down bit without rebooting for more than half an hour, so I manually shut down the machine and restarted it. Then a new error message appeared stating could not find disk, and I hit the manual fix option, and it now boots to an empty ubuntu desktop with my wallpaper but no launcher and the graphics appears as if this was put on a 640 x 480 resolution, and the screen no longer fits onto my 19" LCD. I had to use Ctrl-Alt-T to log out and then restart from there. How can I resolve this issue. Please help!

  • 12.10 Quantal display issues using nvidiaXineramaInfoOverride

    After updating to 12.10 today, my xorg.conf doesn't seem to be respected by Quantal. Not sure if this is a 'bug' or whether it's just an adjustment I have to make due to changes in the OS. When logging in, it seems Ubuntu is now recognizing only one 3840x1080 screen named "Matrox" and maximizing windows spans them across both screens. In 12.04, this configuration file successfully allowed me to override the data provided by my TripleHead2Go and maximize windows to a single monitor. Any ideas or where to start on trying to debug this?   • Named query not known error trying to call a stored proc using Fluent NHibernate

    I'm working on setting up NHibernate for a project and I have a few queries that, due to their complexity, we will be leaving as stored procedures. I'd like to be able to use NHibernate to call the sprocs, but have run into an error I can't figure out. Since I'm using Fluent NHibernate I'm using mixed mode mapping as recommended here. However, when I run the app I get a "Named query not known: AccountsGetSingle" exception and I can't figure out why. I think I might have a problem with my HBM mapping since I'm not very familiar with using them but I'm not sure.   • Parsing Lisp S-Expressions with known schema in C#

    I'm working with a service that provides data as a Lisp-like S-Expression string. This data is arriving thick and fast, and I want to churn through it as quickly as possible, ideally directly on the byte stream (it's only single-byte characters) without any backtracking. These strings can be quite lengthy and I don't want the GC churn of allocating a string for the whole message. My current implementation uses CoCo/R with a grammar, but it has a few problems. Due to the backtracking, it assigns the whole stream to a string. It's also a bit fiddly for users of my code to change if they have to. I'd rather have a pure C# solution. CoCo/R also does not allow for the reuse of parser/scanner objects, so I have to recreate them for each message. Conceptually the data stream can be thought of as a sequence of S-Expressions: (item 1 apple)(item 2 banana)(item 3 chainsaw) Parsing this sequence would create three objects. The type of each object can be determined by the first value in the list, in the above case "item". The schema/grammar of the incoming stream is well known. Before I start coding I'd like to know if there are libraries out there that do this already. I'm sure I'm not the first person to have this problem.

My problem is, I am stuck with how to use solve to actually solve these equations to get the values of a2 and a3. s2 solve for a3 but it doesn't match what we have on paper (not quite). a2 + a3 + 6 = 3 should yield a3 = -3 - a2. because of the imaginary. Somehow I need to equate the vector solution sol to the values [y 3 2] for each row.
