  • Inheriting from multiple classes in Java (and possibly not using interface)

    So, let's say we have classes A, B and C and I want to inherit from all those classes and have another class called D, it can be done using implements and interfaces in Java. But let's say we don't want to use this simple solution, would you be able to inherit class D from classes A, B and C in any other way in Java? (This question might be related to design patterns, it has been brought up after challenging my colleague at lunch discussing design patterns) I don't think there is any other way to have multiple inheritance in Java other than using multiple interfaces.

  • Django - User account with multiple identities

    Synopsis: Each User account has a UserProfile to hold extended info like phone numbers, addresses, etc. Then, a User account can have multiple Identities. There are multiple types of identities that hold different types of information. The structure would be like so: User |<-FK- UserProfile | |<-FK- IdentityType1 |<-FK- IdentityType1 |<-FK- IdentityType2 |<-FK- IdentityType3 (current) |<-FK- IdentityType3 |<-FK- IdentityType3 The User account can be connected to n number of Identities of different types but can only use one Identity at a time. Seemingly, the Django way would be to collect all of the connected identities (user.IdentityType1_set.select_related()) into a QuerySet and then check each one for some kind of 'current' field. Question: Can anyone think of a better way to select the 'current' marked Identity than doing three DB queries (one for each IdentityType)?

    Hi, I want to create a MSWindows Python program that would launch a new Firefox window with multiple tabs each time it is run. For example if I want to search "hello", a new window pops out (even if a Firefox window is already open) and then launches a Google and Bing tabs searching for "hello". If I change the keyword to "world", a new browser pops out again with Google and Bing tabs searching for "world". I've looked at the webbrowser module but couldn't get it to: 1. Launch a new browser when a browser is already open: e.g. webbrowser.open('http://www.google.com',new=1) will instead open a new tab 2. Notepad does not support Multiple Document Interface (MDI). 5.       In conclusion, there is nothing you can do trying to rely on System.Diagnostics.Process class to open multiple documents within a single instance of an application because it is controlled by the application itself. The best approach is to read any developer or user guide of the application and make sure: 1. The application supports Multiple Document Interface (MDI) 2. The application provides command line argument of passing multiple documents. Then, you can use Process class and the command line argument syntax to open multiple documents for the application.

  • Is it better to have multiple domains for cities or one single TLD?

    I make websites for small businesses, and for some reason business owners love to have several domains with the same website but the TLD containing the city name. For example: 1. smallbizname.com 2. clevelandsmallbizname.com 3. columbussmallbizname.com 4. cincinnatismallbizname.com ... and so on. I've seen questions about localization per country aspects, but this is a much smaller scale, so I don't think the same rules apply. The problem I have is the companies never want to write separate content per domain, just have the same website hosted several times at each domain. I feel this probably hurts SEO for two reasons: 1. Traffic gets scattered throughout domains, could be boosting just one domain. 2. Duplicate content penalty because the content is identical. My question boils down to this... Should I redirect all the city domains to the main business name domain, or does having these separate sites help to rank better per city? And if they are redirected, how does google rank the redirects? Thanks for any input on this issue!!

    We have a few websites that we are running on one instance of IIS that need to be mapped for each of their domain names. For example. Site A has the domain name coolness.com Site B has the domain name 6to8Weeks.com Site C has the domain name PhatTech.com When I look at the "Web Site Identification" section of the IIS configuration window, I notice that I can specify an IP address and port, but if I click the Advanced button, I can also configure the site based on host header values as well. How do I configure each site in IIS? Ideally I would like them to all be able to listen to port 80, so I don't have weird URLs, but I'm not sure if I do this using headers, IP addresses, both, or something else.

    I have an HTML table, and each row has a checkbox for selecting or deselecting its row. Whenever a checkbox changes value, I need to add or remove highlighting to the row and also ensure that the page's submit button is only enabled when at least one row is selected and disabled otherwise. However, IE 7 does not handle keyboard interaction well (mouse interaction works fine). The problem is that if a checkbox has the focus and I hit the spacebar, the checkbox doesn't get checked -- instead it gets half checked (it has the same shadowed appearance that it would get immediately after a mousedown). I have to press the spacebar a second time to actually check the box. Similarly, it requires two key presses to uncheck it. Oddly enough, if I hold down the spacebar for a few moments, then a single press works as expected. Can anyone explain what is going on here? Is there something I'm doing wrong in the JavaScript code that is causing this behavior? How can I fix this?

SetCloseTime= new RelayCommand<bool>(ExecuteSetCloseTime); The parameter in the action for the command always resolves to the previous state of the CheckBox, e.g. false when the CheckBox is checked, and true when the CheckBox is unchecked. void ExecuteSetCloseTime(bool isChecked) { if (isChecked) { // do something } } Is this expected behavior? I have a workaround where I have separate triggers (and commands) for the Checked and Unchecked and use a RelayCommand instead of RelayCommand<bool>. Each command executes correctly when the CheckBox is checked and unchecked. Feels a little dirty though - even dirtier than having UI code in my ViewModel :) Thanks

  • Using db4o with multiple application instances under medium trust

    I recently stumbled over the object database engine db4o which I think looks really interesting. I would like to use it in an ASP.NET MVC application that will be deployed to a shared hosting environment under medium trust. Because of the trust level, I'm restricted to using db4o in embedded/in-process mode. That in itself should be no problem, but the hosting provider also transparently runs each web application in multiple (load-balanced) server instances with shared storage, which I would say is normally a very nice feature for a $10/month hoster. However, since an instance of a db4o server with write access (whether in-process or networked) locks the underlying database file, having multiple instances of the application using the same file won't work (or at least I can't see how it would). So the question is: is it possible to use db4o in this specific environment? I have considered letting each application have its own database which is synchronized with a master database using replication (dRS), but that approach will most likely end up with very frequent bi-directional replication (read master changes at beginning of each request, write to master after each change) which I don't think will be very efficient. Summary of the web application/environment characteristics: Read-intensive (but not entirely read-only) Some delay (a few seconds) is acceptible between the time that a change is made and the time when the change shows up in all the application instances' data Must run in medium trust No guarantee that the load-balancer uses "sticky sessions" All suggestions are much appreciated!

    Ok, there seems to be a problem with the JS Code for Opera browsers, as it only removes the last option tag that is selected within a multiple select tag, can someone please help me. Here is the HTML for this: <select id="actions_list" name="layouts" multiple style="height: 128px; width: 300px;"> <option value="forum">forum</option> <option value="collapse">collapse</option> <option value="[topic]">[topic]</option> <option value="[board]">[board]</option> </select> Ofcourse it's within a form tag, but there's a ton more code involved with this form, but here is the relevant info for this. Here is the JS that should handle this, but only removes the last selected option in Opera, not sure about other browsers, but it really needs to remove all selected options, not just the last selected option... argg var action_list = document.getElementById("actions_list"); var i = action_list.options.length; while(i--) { if (action_list.options[i].selected) { action_list.remove(i); } } What is wrong with this?     In Ruby 1.9.1 strings are no longer enumerable and string.each is undefined. This causes a problem when parsing values for an array of generated checkboxes since the field value, when submitted, becomes an array of strings. For example: <% for map in Map.find(:all) %> <%= check_box_tag "listing[map_ids][]", map.id %> <%= map.title %> <% end %> This will result in an error, undefined method `each' for "1":String, in process_parameter_filter because map_ids is being passed as "map_ids"=["1","2"] (if checkboxes with values 1 and 2 have been checked that is). What is the recommended way to fix this?

    I am dealing with an old application which uses struts 1.2. And for some reason, we are using pure html form to submit to struts action. For example: for the content output of testAction.do, I try to submit to itself. item 1 item 2 Then I associate an form bean TestForm with testAction. I am not sure how to specify the properties in the form so that it take the value from myitem1 after user click "submit" I tried to add getMyitem1(), setMyitem1(String[] items), getSelectedMyitem1(), setSelectedMyitem1(String[] items) Those set methods are only called when page are loaded. I guess my understanding of ActionForm in struts 1.x must be wrong. Please advise, thanks.

    I have a query that is using multiple joins. The goal is to say "Out of table A, give me all the customer numbers in which you can match table A's EmailAddress with either email_to or email_from of table B. Ignore nulls, internal emails, etc.". It seems like it would be better to use an or condition in the join than multiple joins since it is the same table. When I try to use AND/OR it does not give the behaviour I expect... AND finishes in a reasonable time, but yields no results (I know that there are matches, so it must be some flaw in my logic) and OR never finishes (I have to kill it). Here is example code to illustrate the question: --my original query SELECT DISTINCT a.CustomerNo FROM A a WITH (NOLOCK) LEFT JOIN B e WITH (NOLOCK) ON a.EmailAddress = e.email_from RIGHT JOIN B f WITH (NOLOCK) ON a.EmailAddress = f.email_to WHERE a.EmailAddress NOT LIKE '%@mydomain.___' AND a.EmailAddress IS NOT NULL AND (e.email_from IS NOT NULL OR f.email_to IS NOT NULL) Here is what I tried, (I am attempting logical equivalence): SELECT DISTINCT a.CustomerNo FROM A a WITH (NOLOCK) LEFT JOIN B e WITH (NOLOCK) ON a.EmailAddress = e.email_from OR a.EmailAddress = e.email_to WHERE a.EmailAddress NOT LIKE '%@mydomain.___' AND a.EmailAddress IS NOT NULL AND (e.email_from IS NOT NULL OR e.email_to IS NOT NULL) So my question is two-fold: Why does having AND in the above query work in a few seconds and OR goes for minutes and never completes? What am I missing to make a logically equivalent statement that has only one join?

    I noticed that PHP seems to return only values of checked checkboxes. I would like to see a list of checkboxes, not just values of checked checkboxes. Is there a way to detect variables of unchecked boxes? I asked because I want to be able to update settings. For example, I have a few options that are already checked but if an user decides to uncheck an option, I need to know that unchecked value so I can update the option to be disabled.

    Hi In my website i use ASP MVC 2 + Fluent NHibernate as orm, StructureMap for IoC container. There are several databases with identical metadata(and so entities and mappings are the same). On LogOn page user fiils in login, password, rememberme and chooses his server from dropdownlist (in fact he chooses database). Web.config contains all connstrings and we can assume that they won't be changed in run-time. I suppose that it is required to have one session factory per database. Before using multiple databases, i loaded classes to my StructureMap ObjectFactory in Application_Start ObjectFactory.Initialize(init => init.AddRegistry<ObjectRegistry>()); ObjectFactory.Configure(conf => conf.AddRegistry<NhibernateRegistry>()); NhibernateRegistry class: public class NhibernateRegistry : Registry { public NhibernateRegistry() { var sessionFactory = NhibernateConfiguration.Configuration.BuildSessionFactory(); For<Configuration>().Singleton().Use( NhibernateConfiguration.Configuration); For<ISessionFactory>().Singleton().Use(sessionFactory); For<ISession>().HybridHttpOrThreadLocalScoped().Use( ctx => ctx.GetInstance<ISessionFactory>().GetCurrentSession()); } } In Application_BeginRequest i bind opened nhibernate session to asp session(nhibernate session per request) and in EndRequest i unbind them: protected void Application_BeginRequest( object sender, EventArgs e) { CurrentSessionContext.Bind(ObjectFactory.GetInstance<ISessionFactory>().OpenSession()); } Q1: How can i realize what SessionFactory should i use according to authenticated user? is it something like UserData filled with database name (i use simple FormsAuthentication) For logging i use log4net, namely AdoNetAppender which contains connectionString(in xml, of course). Q2: How can i manage multiple connection strings for this database appender, so logs would be written to current database? I have no idea how to do that except changing xml all the time and reseting xml configuration, but its really bad solution.
