  • Sqlite3 : "Database is locked" error

    - by Miraaj
    Hi all, In my cocoa application I am maintaining a SQLite db within resources folder and trying to do some select, delete operations in it but after some time it starts giving me 'Database is locked' error. The methods which I am using for select delete operations are as follows: // method to retrieve data if (sqlite3_open([databasePath UTF8String], &database) != SQLITE_OK) { sqlite3_close(database); NSAssert(0, @"Failed to open database"); } NSLog(@"mailBodyFor:%d andFlag:%d andFlag:%@",UId,x,Ffolder); NSMutableArray *recordsToReturn = [[NSMutableArray alloc] initWithCapacity:2]; NSString *tempMsg; const char *sqlStatementNew; NSLog(@"before switch"); switch (x) { case 9: // tempMsg=[NSString stringWithFormat:@"SELECT * FROM users_messages"]; tempMsg=[NSString stringWithFormat:@"SELECT message,AttachFileOriName as oriFileName,AttachmentFileName as fileName FROM users_messages WHERE id = (select message_id from users_messages_status where id= '%d')",UId]; NSLog(@"mail body query - %@",tempMsg); break; default: break; } sqlStatementNew = [tempMsg cStringUsingEncoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding]; sqlite3_stmt *compiledStatementNew; NSLog(@"before if statement"); if(sqlite3_prepare_v2(database, sqlStatementNew, -1, &compiledStatementNew, NULL) == SQLITE_OK) { NSLog(@"the sql is finalized"); while(sqlite3_step(compiledStatementNew) == SQLITE_ROW) { NSMutableDictionary *recordDict = [[NSMutableDictionary alloc] initWithCapacity:3]; NSString *message; if((char *)sqlite3_column_text(compiledStatementNew, 0)){ message = [NSString stringWithUTF8String:(char *)sqlite3_column_text(compiledStatementNew, 0)]; } else{ message = @""; } NSLog(@"message - %@",message); NSString *oriFileName; if((char *)sqlite3_column_text(compiledStatementNew, 1)){ oriFileName = [NSString stringWithUTF8String:(char *)sqlite3_column_text(compiledStatementNew, 1)]; } else{ oriFileName = @""; } NSLog(@"oriFileName - %@",oriFileName); NSString *fileName; if((char *)sqlite3_column_text(compiledStatementNew, 2)){ fileName = [NSString stringWithUTF8String:(char *)sqlite3_column_text(compiledStatementNew, 2)]; } else{ fileName = @""; } NSLog(@"fileName - %@",fileName); [recordDict setObject:message forKey:@"message"]; [recordDict setObject:oriFileName forKey:@"oriFileName"]; [recordDict setObject:fileName forKey:@"fileName"]; [recordsToReturn addObject:recordDict]; [recordDict release]; } sqlite3_finalize(compiledStatementNew); sqlite3_close(database); NSLog(@"user messages return -%@",recordsToReturn); return recordsToReturn; } else{ NSLog(@"Error while creating retrieving mailBodyFor in messaging '%s'", sqlite3_errmsg(database)); sqlite3_close(database); } // method to delete data if (sqlite3_open([databasePath UTF8String], &database) != SQLITE_OK) { sqlite3_close(database); NSAssert(0, @"Failed to open database"); } NSString *deleteQuery = [[NSString alloc] initWithFormat:@"delete from users_messages_status where id IN(%@)",ids]; NSLog(@"users_messages_status msg deleteQuery - %@",deleteQuery); sqlite3_stmt *deleteStmnt; const char *sql = [deleteQuery cStringUsingEncoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding]; if(sqlite3_prepare_v2(database, sql, -1, &deleteStmnt, NULL) != SQLITE_OK){ NSLog(@"Error while creating delete statement. '%s'", sqlite3_errmsg(database)); } else{ NSLog(@"successful deletion from users_messages"); } if(SQLITE_DONE != sqlite3_step(deleteStmnt)){ NSLog(@"Error while deleting. '%s'", sqlite3_errmsg(database)); } sqlite3_close(database); Things are going wrong in this sequence Data is retrieved 'Database is locked' error arises on performing delete operation. When I retry to perform 1st step.. it now gives same error. Can anyone suggest me: If I am doing anything wrong or missing some check? Is there any way to unlock it when it gives locked error? Thanks, Miraaj

  • iPad issue with a modal view: modal view label null after view controller is created

    - by iPhone Guy
    This is a weird issue. I have created a view controller with a nib file for my modal view. On that view there is a label, number and text view. When I create the view from the source view, I tried to set the label, but it shows that the label is null (0x0). Kinda weird... Any suggestions? Now lets look at the code (I put all of the code here because that shows more than I can just explain): The modal view controller - in IB the label is connected to the UILabel object: @implementation ModalViewController @synthesize delegate; @synthesize goalLabel, goalText, goalNumber; // Done button clicked - (void)dismissView:(id)sender { // Call the delegate to dismiss the modal view if ([delegate respondsToSelector:@selector(didDismissModalView: newText:)]) { NSNumber *tmpNum = goalNumber; NSString *tmpString = [[NSString alloc] initWithString:[goalText text]]; [delegate didDismissModalView:tmpNum newText:tmpString]; [tmpNum release]; [tmpString release]; } } - (void)cancelView:(id)sender { // Call the delegate to dismiss the modal view if ([delegate respondsToSelector:@selector(didCancelModalView)]) [delegate didCancelModalView]; } -(void) setLabelText:(NSString *)text { [goalLabel setText:text]; } /* // The designated initializer. Override if you create the controller programmatically and want to perform customization that is not appropriate for viewDidLoad. - (id)initWithNibName:(NSString *)nibNameOrNil bundle:(NSBundle *)nibBundleOrNil { if ((self = [super initWithNibName:nibNameOrNil bundle:nibBundleOrNil])) { // Custom initialization } return self; } */ -(void) viewWillAppear:(BOOL)animated { [super viewWillAppear:animated]; // bring up the keyboard.... [goalText becomeFirstResponder]; } // Implement viewDidLoad to do additional setup after loading the view, typically from a nib. - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; // set the current goal number to -1 so we know none was set goalNumber = [NSNumber numberWithInt: -1]; // Override the right button to show a Done button // which is used to dismiss the modal view self.navigationItem.rightBarButtonItem = [[[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithBarButtonSystemItem:UIBarButtonSystemItemDone target:self action:@selector(dismissView:)] autorelease]; // and now for the cancel button self.navigationItem.leftBarButtonItem = [[[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithBarButtonSystemItem:UIBarButtonSystemItemCancel target:self action:@selector(cancelView:)] autorelease]; self.navigationItem.title = @"Add/Update Goals"; } - (BOOL)shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation)interfaceOrientation { // Overriden to allow any orientation. return YES; } - (void)didReceiveMemoryWarning { // Releases the view if it doesn't have a superview. [super didReceiveMemoryWarning]; // Release any cached data, images, etc that aren't in use. } - (void)viewDidUnload { [super viewDidUnload]; // Release any retained subviews of the main view. // e.g. self.myOutlet = nil; } - (void)dealloc { [super dealloc]; } @end And here is where the view controller is created, variables set, and displayed: - (void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { // put a checkmark.... UITableViewCell *tmpCell = [tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:indexPath]; [tmpCell setAccessoryType:UITableViewCellAccessoryCheckmark]; // this is where the popup is gonna popup! // ===> HEre We Go! // Create the modal view controller ModalViewController *mdvc = [[ModalViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"ModalDetailView" bundle:nil]; // We are the delegate responsible for dismissing the modal view [mdvc setDelegate:self]; // Create a Navigation controller UINavigationController *navController = [[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:mdvc]; // set the modal view type navController.modalPresentationStyle = UIModalPresentationFormSheet; // set the label for all of the goals.... if (indexPath.section == 0 && indexPath.row == 0) { [mdvc setLabelText:[[[NSString alloc] initWithString:@"Long Term Goal 1:"] autorelease]]; [mdvc setGoalNumber:[NSNumber numberWithInt:1]]; } if (indexPath.section == 0 && indexPath.row == 1) { [mdvc setLabelText:[[[NSString alloc] initWithString:@"Long Term Goal 2:"] autorelease]]; [mdvc setGoalNumber:[NSNumber numberWithInt:2]]; } if (indexPath.section == 0 && indexPath.row == 2) { [mdvc setLabelText:[[[NSString alloc] initWithString:@"Long Term Goal 3:"] autorelease]]; [mdvc setGoalNumber:[NSNumber numberWithInt:3]]; } if (indexPath.section == 0 && indexPath.row == 3) { [mdvc setLabelText:[[[NSString alloc] initWithString:@"Long Term Goal 4:"] autorelease]]; [mdvc setGoalNumber:[NSNumber numberWithInt:4]]; } if (indexPath.section == 1 && indexPath.row == 0) { [mdvc setLabelText:[[[NSString alloc] initWithString:@"Short Term Goal 1:"] autorelease]]; [mdvc setGoalNumber:[NSNumber numberWithInt:5]]; } if (indexPath.section == 1 && indexPath.row == 1) { [mdvc setLabelText:[[[NSString alloc] initWithString:@"Short Term Goal 2:"] autorelease]]; [mdvc setGoalNumber:[NSNumber numberWithInt:6]]; } if (indexPath.section == 1 && indexPath.row == 2) { [mdvc setLabelText:[[[NSString alloc] initWithString:@"Short Term Goal 3:"] autorelease]]; [mdvc setGoalNumber:[NSNumber numberWithInt:7]]; } if (indexPath.section == 1 && indexPath.row == 3) { [mdvc setLabelText:[[[NSString alloc] initWithString:@"Short Term Goal 4:"] autorelease]]; [mdvc setGoalNumber:[NSNumber numberWithInt:8]]; } // show the navigation controller modally [self presentModalViewController:navController animated:YES]; // Clean up resources [navController release]; [mdvc release]; // ==> Ah... we are done... }

  • tableView:didSelectRowAtIndexPath: calls TTNavigator openURLAction:applyAnimated: — UITabBar and na

    - by vikingosegundo
    I have an existing iphone project with a UITabBar. Now I need styled text and in-text links to other ViewControllers in my app. I am trying to integrate TTStyledTextLabel. I have a FirstViewController:UITabelViewController with this tableView:didSelectRowAtIndexPath: - (void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { NSString *url; if ([self.filteredQuestions count]>0) { url = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@%d", @"tt://question/", [[self.filteredQuestions objectAtIndex:indexPath.row] id]]; [[TTNavigator navigator] openURLAction:[[TTURLAction actionWithURLPath: url] applyAnimated:YES]]; } else { Question * q = [self.questions objectAtIndex:indexPath.row] ; url = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@%d", @"tt://question/", [q.id intValue]]; } TTDPRINT(@"%@", url); TTNavigator *navigator = [TTNavigator navigator]; [navigator openURLAction:[[TTURLAction actionWithURLPath: url] applyAnimated:YES]]; } My mapping looks like this: TTNavigator* navigator = [TTNavigator navigator]; navigator.window = window; navigator.supportsShakeToReload = YES; TTURLMap* map = navigator.URLMap; [map from:@"*" toViewController:[TTWebController class]]; [map from:@"tt://question/(initWithQID:)" toViewController:[QuestionDetailViewController class]]; and my QuestionDetailViewController: @interface QuestionDetailViewController : UIViewController <UIScrollViewDelegate , QuestionDetailViewProtocol> { Question *question; } @property(nonatomic,retain) Question *question; -(id) initWithQID:(NSString *)qid; -(void) goBack:(id)sender; @end When I hit a cell, q QuestionDetailViewController will be called — but the navigationBar wont @implementation QuestionDetailViewController @synthesize question; -(id) initWithQID:(NSString *)qid { if (self = [super initWithNibName:@"QuestionDetailViewController" bundle:nil]) { //; TTDPRINT(@"%@", qid); NSManagedObjectContext *managedObjectContext = [(domainAppDelegate*)[[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate] managedObjectContext]; NSPredicate *predicate =[NSPredicate predicateWithFormat:@"id == %@", qid]; NSEntityDescription *entity = [NSEntityDescription entityForName:@"Question" inManagedObjectContext:managedObjectContext]; NSFetchRequest *request = [[NSFetchRequest alloc] init]; [request setEntity:entity]; [request setPredicate:predicate]; NSError *error = nil; NSArray *array = [managedObjectContext executeFetchRequest:request error:&error]; if (error==nil && [array count]>0 ) { self.question = [array objectAtIndex:0]; } else { TTDPRINT(@"error: %@", array); } } return self; } - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; [TTStyleSheet setGlobalStyleSheet:[[[TextTestStyleSheet alloc] init] autorelease]]; [self.navigationController.navigationBar setTranslucent:YES]; NSArray *includedLinks = [self.question.answer.text vs_extractExternalLinks]; NSMutableDictionary *linksToTT = [[NSMutableDictionary alloc] init]; for (NSArray *a in includedLinks) { NSString *s = [a objectAtIndex:3]; if ([s hasPrefix:@"/answer/"] || [s hasPrefix:@"http://domain.com/answer/"] || [s hasPrefix:@"http://www.domain.com/answer/"]) { NSString *ttAdress = @"tt://question/"; NSArray *adressComps = [s pathComponents]; for (NSString *s in adressComps) { if ([s isEqualToString:@"qid"]) { ttAdress = [ttAdress stringByAppendingString:[adressComps objectAtIndex:[adressComps indexOfObject:s]+1]]; } } [linksToTT setObject:ttAdress forKey:s]; } } for (NSString *k in [linksToTT allKeys]) { self.question.answer.text = [self.question.answer.text stringByReplacingOccurrencesOfString:k withString: [linksToTT objectForKey:k]]; } TTStyledTextLabel *answerText = [[[TTStyledTextLabel alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0, 0, 320, 700)] autorelease]; if (![[self.question.answer.text stringByTrimmingCharactersInSet:[NSCharacterSet whitespaceCharacterSet]] hasPrefix:@"<div"]) { self.question.answer.text = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%<div>%@</div>", self.question.answer.text]; } NSString * s = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"<div class=\"header\">%@</div>\n%@",self.question.title ,self.question.answer.text]; answerText.text = [TTStyledText textFromXHTML:s lineBreaks:YES URLs:YES]; answerText.contentInset = UIEdgeInsetsMake(20, 15, 20, 15); [answerText sizeToFit]; [self.navigationController setNavigationBarHidden:NO animated:YES]; [self.view addSubview:answerText]; [(UIScrollView *)self.view setContentSize:answerText.frame.size]; self.view.backgroundColor = [UIColor whiteColor]; [linksToTT release]; } ....... @end This works quite nice, as soon as a cell is touched, a QuestionDetailViewController is called and pushed — but the tabBar will disappear, and the navigationItem — I set it like this: self.navigationItem.title =@"back to first screen"; — won't be shown. And it just appears without animation. But if I press a link inside the TTStyledTextLabel the animation works, the navigationItem will be shown. How can I make the animation, the navigationItem and the tabBar be shown?

  • document directory problem?

    - by senthilmuthu
    When i write Data(53MB ) to Document directory ,the data is not written when i check directly through application support path.i coded like this, - (BOOL)writeApplicationData:(NSData *)data toFile:(NSString *)fileName { NSArray *paths = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES); NSString *documentsDirectory = [paths objectAtIndex:0]; if (!documentsDirectory) { NSLog(@"Documents directory not found!"); return NO; } NSString *appFile = [documentsDirectory stringByAppendingPathComponent:fileName]; return ([data writeToFile:appFile atomically:YES]); } it works fine, but when i read the data using follwing code, the data is null, anyhelp pls? - (NSData *)applicationDataFromFile:(NSString *)fileName { NSArray *paths = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES); NSString *documentsDirectory = [paths objectAtIndex:0]; NSString *appFile = [documentsDirectory stringByAppendingPathComponent:fileName]; NSData *myData = [[[NSData alloc] initWithContentsOfFile:appFile] autorelease]; return myData; }

  • Does the iPhone compress images saved within my app's documents directory?

    - by Jane Sales
    We are caching images downloaded from our server. We write them to our local storage like this: NSArray *paths = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSCachesDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES); NSString *documentsDirectory = [paths objectAtIndex:0] ; NSString* folder = [[documentsDirectory stringByAppendingPathComponent:@"flook.images"] retain]; NSString* fileName = [folder stringByAppendingFormat:@"/%@", aBaseFilename]; BOOL writeSuccess = [anImageData writeToFile:fileName atomically:NO]; The downloaded images are always the expected size, around 45-85KB. Later, we read images from our cache like this: NSArray *paths = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSCachesDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES); NSString *documentsDirectory = [paths objectAtIndex:0] ; NSString* folder = [[documentsDirectory stringByAppendingPathComponent:@"flook.images"] retain]; NSString* fileName = [folder stringByAppendingFormat:@"/%@", aBaseFilename]; image = [UIImage imageWithContentsOfFile:fileName]; Occasionally, the images returned from this cache read are much smaller because they are much more compressed - around 5-10KB. Has the OS done this to us?

  • Interoperability between two AES algorithms

    - by lpfavreau
    Hello, I'm new to cryptography and I'm building some test applications to try and understand the basics of it. I'm not trying to build the algorithms from scratch but I'm trying to make two different AES-256 implementation talk to each other. I've got a database that was populated with this Javascript implementation stored in Base64. Now, I'm trying to get an Objective-C method to decrypt its content but I'm a little lost as to where the differences in the implementations are. I'm able to encrypt/decrypt in Javascript and I'm able to encrypt/decrypt in Cocoa but cannot make a string encrypted in Javascript decrypted in Cocoa or vice-versa. I'm guessing it's related to the initialization vector, nonce, counter mode of operation or all of these, which quite frankly, doesn't speak to me at the moment. Here's what I'm using in Objective-C, adapted mainly from this and this: @implementation NSString (Crypto) - (NSString *)encryptAES256:(NSString *)key { NSData *input = [self dataUsingEncoding: NSUTF8StringEncoding]; NSData *output = [NSString cryptoAES256:input key:key doEncrypt:TRUE]; return [Base64 encode:output]; } - (NSString *)decryptAES256:(NSString *)key { NSData *input = [Base64 decode:self]; NSData *output = [NSString cryptoAES256:input key:key doEncrypt:FALSE]; return [[[NSString alloc] initWithData:output encoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding] autorelease]; } + (NSData *)cryptoAES256:(NSData *)input key:(NSString *)key doEncrypt:(BOOL)doEncrypt { // 'key' should be 32 bytes for AES256, will be null-padded otherwise char keyPtr[kCCKeySizeAES256 + 1]; // room for terminator (unused) bzero(keyPtr, sizeof(keyPtr)); // fill with zeroes (for padding) // fetch key data [key getCString:keyPtr maxLength:sizeof(keyPtr) encoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding]; NSUInteger dataLength = [input length]; // See the doc: For block ciphers, the output size will always be less than or // equal to the input size plus the size of one block. // That's why we need to add the size of one block here size_t bufferSize = dataLength + kCCBlockSizeAES128; void* buffer = malloc(bufferSize); size_t numBytesCrypted = 0; CCCryptorStatus cryptStatus = CCCrypt(doEncrypt ? kCCEncrypt : kCCDecrypt, kCCAlgorithmAES128, kCCOptionECBMode | kCCOptionPKCS7Padding, keyPtr, kCCKeySizeAES256, nil, // initialization vector (optional) [input bytes], dataLength, // input buffer, bufferSize, // output &numBytesCrypted ); if (cryptStatus == kCCSuccess) { // the returned NSData takes ownership of the buffer and will free it on deallocation return [NSData dataWithBytesNoCopy:buffer length:numBytesCrypted]; } free(buffer); // free the buffer; return nil; } @end Of course, the input is Base64 decoded beforehand. I see that each encryption with the same key and same content in Javascript gives a different encrypted string, which is not the case with the Objective-C implementation that always give the same encrypted string. I've read the answers of this post and it makes me believe I'm right about something along the lines of vector initialization but I'd need your help to pinpoint what's going on exactly. Thank you!

  • How to calculate the height of the text rectangle from an NSString?

    - by mystify
    I know there is this one: sizeWithFont:minFontSize:actualFontSize:forWidth:lineBreakMode: But since the CGSize always has the same height and doesn't adjust to any shrinked text or whatsoever, the CGSize is not telling how heigh the text is. Example: Make a UILabel with 320 x 55 points and put a loooooooooooooong text in there. Let the label shrink the text down. Surprise: CGSize.height remains the same height even if the text is so tiny that you need a microscope. Ok so after banging my head against my macbook pro which is half way broken now, the only think that can help is that nasty actualFontSize. But the font size is in pica I think, it's not really what you get on the screen, isn't it? When that font size is 10, is my text really 10 points heigh at maximum? Once in a while I tried exactly that, and as soon as the text had a y or some character that extends to below (like that tail of an y does), it is out of bounds and the whole text is bigger than 10 points. So how would you calculate the real text height for a single line uilabel without getting a long beard and some hospital experience?

  • How we can perform Action on Sequence UIButtons?

    - by Prince Shazad
    As My Screen shot show that i am working on word matching game.In this game i assign my words to different UIButtons in Specific sequence on different loctions(my red arrow shows this sequence)and of rest UIButtons i assign a one of random character(A-Z).when i Click on any UIButtons its title will be assign to UILabel which is in Fornt of Current Section:i campare this UILabel text to below UILabels text which is in fornt of timer.when it match to any of my UILabels its will be deleted.i implement all this process already. But my problem is that which is show by black lines.if the player find the first word which is "DOG". he click the Two UIButtons in Sequence,but not press the Third one in Sequence.(as show by black line).so here i want that when player press the any UIButtons which is not in Sequence then remove the previous text(which is "DO") of UILabel and now the Text of UILabel is only "G" . Here is my code to get the UIButtons titles and assign it UILabel. - (void)aMethod:(id)sender { UIButton *button = (UIButton *)sender; NSString *get = (NSString *)[[button titleLabel] text]; NSString *origText = mainlabel.text; mainlabel.text = [origText stringByAppendingString:get]; if ([mainlabel.text length ]== 3) { if([mainlabel.text isEqualToString: a]){ lbl.text=@"Right"; [btn1 removeFromSuperview]; score=score+10; lblscore.text=[NSString stringWithFormat:@"%d",score]; words=words-1; lblwords.text=[NSString stringWithFormat:@"%d",words]; mainlabel.text=@""; a=@"tbbb"; } else if([mainlabel.text isEqualToString: c]){ lbl.text=@"Right"; [btn2 removeFromSuperview]; score=score+10; lblscore.text=[NSString stringWithFormat:@"%d",score]; words=words-1; lblwords.text=[NSString stringWithFormat:@"%d",words]; mainlabel.text=@""; c=@"yyyy"; } else if([mainlabel.text isEqualToString: d]){ lbl.text=@"Right"; [btn3 removeFromSuperview]; score=score+10; lblscore.text=[NSString stringWithFormat:@"%d",score]; words=words-1; lblwords.text=[NSString stringWithFormat:@"%d",words]; mainlabel.text=@""; d=@"yyyy"; } else { lbl.text=@"Wrong"; mainlabel.text=@""; } }} Thanx in advance

  • Objective-C and Cocoa : crash when calling a class function without entering the function

    - by Oliver
    Hello, I have a class function (declared and implemented) in a class MyUtils : + (NSString*) theFunction:(NSString*)param1 param2:(NSString*)param2 param3:(NSString*)param3; When I call this function, with : NSString *item = [MyUtils theFunction:@"abc" param2:aPreviousNSString param3:@"xyz"; my app crashes. In the debugger I have a breakpoint on the first action of the "theFunction" function. And this breakpoint is never reached. If I replace the call by NSString *item = @"youyou"; then everything is ok. Forcing a retain on aPreviousNSString before the call does not change anything. Do you have an idea of what is happening ? Thanks

    I know that NSString and CFString are toll-bridge, they can convert in such a way. CFStringRef cfStr; NSString* anStr=(NSString*)cfStr; however,when I convert string in such a case when dealing addressbook NSString* homeLabel=(NSString*)kABWorkLabel; then homeLabel is "$!!$"; the other pre-defined CFStringRef in the addressbook property is the same. in my program,I want to get both the label and the label item's info. NSString* label=ABMultiValueCopyLabelAtIndex(multi,i); so how to correctly get the string of the label? Thanks!

  • objective-c - calling one constructor from another

    - by synic
    Say you had the following two constructors: - (id)initWithTitle:(NSString *)title; - (id)initWithTitle:(NSString *)title page:(NSString *)page; The second constructor is no different from the first, except that it sets up the member variable "page". Since it basically has to do the same thing, is there a way to call the first one from the second one to reduce code duplication, or do you have to set up a third method to do the common tasks? I'm talking about something similar to this, though I doubt this will work: - (id)initWithTitle:(NSString *)_title { if(self = [super init]) { self.title = _title; } return self; } - (id)initWithTitle:(NSString *)_title page:(NSString *)_page { if(self = [self initWithTitle:_title]) { self.page = _page; } return self; }

  • How optimize code with introspection + heavy alloc on iPhone

    - by mamcx
    I have a problem. I try to display a UITable that could have 2000-20000 records (typicall numbers.) I have a SQLite database similar to the Apple contacts application. I do all the tricks I know to get a smoth scroll, but I have a problem. I load the data in 50 recods blocks. Then, when the user scroll, request next 50 until finish the list. However, load that 50 records cause a notable "pause" in loading and scrolling. Everything else works fine. I cache the data, have opaque cells, draw it by code, etc... I swap the code loading the same data in dicts and have a performance boost but wonder if I could keep my object oriented aproach and improve the actual code. This is the code I think have the performance problem: -(NSArray *) loadAndFill: (NSString *)sql theClass: (Class)cls { [self openDb]; NSMutableArray *list = [NSMutableArray array]; NSAutoreleasePool *pool = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc] init]; DbObject *ds; Class myClass = NSClassFromString([DbObject getTableName:cls]); FMResultSet *rs = [self load:sql]; while ([rs next]) { ds = [[myClass alloc] init]; NSDictionary *props = [ds properties]; NSString *fieldType = nil; id fieldValue; for (NSString *fieldName in [props allKeys]) { fieldType = [props objectForKey: fieldName]; fieldValue = [self ValueForField:rs Name:fieldName Type:fieldType]; [ds setValue:fieldValue forKey:fieldName]; } [list addObject :ds]; [ds release]; } [rs close]; [pool drain]; return list; } And I think the main culprit is: -(id) ValueForField: (FMResultSet *)rs Name:(NSString *)fieldName Type:(NSString *)fieldType { id fieldValue = nil; if ([fieldType isEqualToString:@"i"] || // int [fieldType isEqualToString:@"I"] || // unsigned int [fieldType isEqualToString:@"s"] || // short [fieldType isEqualToString:@"S"] || // unsigned short [fieldType isEqualToString:@"f"] || // float [fieldType isEqualToString:@"d"] ) // double { fieldValue = [NSNumber numberWithInt: [rs longForColumn:fieldName]]; } else if ([fieldType isEqualToString:@"B"]) // bool or _Bool { fieldValue = [NSNumber numberWithBool: [rs boolForColumn:fieldName]]; } else if ([fieldType isEqualToString:@"l"] || // long [fieldType isEqualToString:@"L"] || // usigned long [fieldType isEqualToString:@"q"] || // long long [fieldType isEqualToString:@"Q"] ) // unsigned long long { fieldValue = [NSNumber numberWithLong: [rs longForColumn:fieldName]]; } else if ([fieldType isEqualToString:@"c"] || // char [fieldType isEqualToString:@"C"] ) // unsigned char { fieldValue = [rs stringForColumn:fieldName]; //Is really a boolean? if ([fieldValue isEqualToString:@"0"] || [fieldValue isEqualToString:@"1"]) { fieldValue = [NSNumber numberWithInt: [fieldValue intValue]]; } } else if ([fieldType hasPrefix:@"@"] ) // Object { NSString *className = [fieldType substringWithRange:NSMakeRange(2, [fieldType length]-3)]; if ([className isEqualToString:@"NSString"]) { fieldValue = [rs stringForColumn:fieldName]; } else if ([className isEqualToString:@"NSDate"]) { NSDateFormatter* dateFormatter = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init]; [dateFormatter setDateFormat:@"yyyy-MM-dd'T'HH:mm:ss"]; NSString *theDate = [rs stringForColumn:fieldName]; if (theDate) { fieldValue = [dateFormatter dateFromString: theDate]; } else { fieldValue = nil; } [dateFormatter release]; } else if ([className isEqualToString:@"NSInteger"]) { fieldValue = [NSNumber numberWithInt: [rs intForColumn :fieldName]]; } else if ([className isEqualToString:@"NSDecimalNumber"]) { fieldValue = [rs stringForColumn :fieldName]; if (fieldValue) { fieldValue = [NSDecimalNumber decimalNumberWithString:[rs stringForColumn :fieldName]]; } } else if ([className isEqualToString:@"NSNumber"]) { fieldValue = [NSNumber numberWithDouble: [rs doubleForColumn:fieldName]]; } else { //Is a relationship one-to-one? if (![fieldType hasPrefix:@"NS"]) { id rel = class_createInstance(NSClassFromString(className), sizeof(unsigned)); Class theClass = [rel class]; if ([rel isKindOfClass:[DbObject class]]) { fieldValue = [rel init]; //Load the record... Also i am a total beginner with Xcode and Obj C i was told to have a look at a website that provided sample code to http auth however so far i have had little luck in getting this working. below is the main code for the button press in my application, there is also another unit called Base64 below that has some code in i had to change to even get it compiling (no idea if what i changed is correct mind you). NSURL *url = [NSURL URLWithString:@"my URL"]; NSString *userName = @"UN"; NSString *password = @"PW"; NSError *myError = nil; // create a plaintext string in the format username:password NSMutableString *loginString = (NSMutableString*)[@"" stringByAppendingFormat:@"%@:%@", userName, password]; // employ the Base64 encoding above to encode the authentication tokens char *encodedLoginData = [base64 encode:[loginString dataUsingEncoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding]]; // create the contents of the header NSString *authHeader = [@"Basic " stringByAppendingFormat:@"%@", [NSString stringWithCString:encodedLoginData length:strlen(encodedLoginData)]]; //NSString *authHeader = [@"Basic " stringByAppendingFormat:@"%@", loginString];//[NSString stringWithString:loginString length:strlen(loginString)]]; NSMutableURLRequest *request = [NSMutableURLRequest requestWithURL: url cachePolicy: NSURLRequestReloadIgnoringCacheData timeoutInterval: 3]; // add the header to the request. Here's the $$$!!! [request addValue:authHeader forHTTPHeaderField:@"Authorization"]; // perform the reqeust NSURLResponse *response; NSData *data = [NSURLConnection sendSynchronousRequest: request returningResponse: &response error: &myError]; //*error = myError; // POW, here's the content of the webserver's response. NSString *result = [NSString stringWithCString:[data bytes] length:[data length]]; [myTextView setString:result]; code from the BASE64 file #import "base64.h" static char *alphabet = "ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZabcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz0123456789+-"; @implementation Base64 +(char *)encode:(NSData *)plainText { // create an adequately sized buffer for the output. every 3 bytes // become four basically with padding to the next largest integer // divisible by four. char * encodedText = malloc((((([plainText length] % 3) + [plainText length]) / 3) * 4) + 1); char* inputBuffer = malloc([plainText length]); inputBuffer = (char *)[plainText bytes]; int i; int j = 0; // encode, this expands every 3 bytes to 4 for(i = 0; i < [plainText length]; i += 3) { encodedText[j++] = alphabet[(inputBuffer[i] & 0xFC) >> 2]; encodedText[j++] = alphabet[((inputBuffer[i] & 0x03) << 4) | ((inputBuffer[i + 1] & 0xF0) >> 4)]; if(i + 1 >= [plainText length]) // padding encodedText[j++] = '='; else encodedText[j++] = alphabet[((inputBuffer[i + 1] & 0x0F) << 2) | ((inputBuffer[i + 2] & 0xC0) >> 6)]; if(i + 2 >= [plainText length]) // padding encodedText[j++] = '='; else encodedText[j++] = alphabet[inputBuffer[i + 2] & 0x3F]; } // terminate the string encodedText[j] = 0; return encodedText;//outputBuffer; } @end when executing the code it stops on the following line with a EXC_BAD_ACCESS ?!?!? NSString *authHeader = [@"Basic " stringByAppendingFormat:@"%@", [NSString stringWithCString:encodedLoginData length:strlen(encodedLoginData)]]; any help would be appreciated as i am a little clueless on this problem, not being very literate with Cocoa, objective c, xcode is only adding fuel to this fire for me.

  • Application shows low memory warning and crashes while loading images?

    I am using following code for loading images from server using following code.When i scroll UITableView application crashes. I have attached heapshot analysis screen shot of it.Here non Object consumes so much of memory what is that?

  • Javascript style objects in Objective-C

    - by awolf
    Background: I use a ton of NSDictionary objects in my iPhone and iPad code. I'm sick of the verbose way of getting/setting keys to these state dictionaries. So a little bit of an experiment: I just created a class I call Remap. Remap will take any arbitrary set[VariableName]:(NSObject *) obj selector and forward that message to a function that will insert obj into an internal NSMutableDictionary under the key [vairableName]. Remap will also take any (zero argument) arbitrary [variableName] selector and return the NSObject mapped in the NSMutableDictionary under the key [variableName]. e.g. Remap * remap = [[Remap alloc] init]; NSNumber * testNumber = [NSNumber numberWithInt:46]; [remap setTestNumber:testNumber]; testNumber = [remap testNumber]; [remap setTestString:@"test string"]; NSString * testString = [remap testString]; NSMutableDictionary * testDict = [NSMutableDictionary dictionaryWithObject:testNumber forKey:@"testNumber"]; [remap setTestDict:testDict]; testDict = [remap testDict]; where none of the properties testNumber, testString, or testDict are actually defined in Remap. The crazy thing? It works... My only question is how can I disable the "may not respond to " warnings for JUST accesses to Remap? P.S. : I'll probably end up scrapping this and going with macros since message forwarding is quite inefficient... but aside from that does anyone see other problems with Remap? Here's Remap's .m for those who are curious: #import "Remap.h" @interface Remap () @property (nonatomic, retain) NSMutableDictionary * _data; @end @implementation Remap @synthesize _data; - (void) dealloc { relnil(_data); [super dealloc]; } - (id) init { self = [super init]; if (self != nil) { NSMutableDictionary * dict = [[NSMutableDictionary alloc] init]; [self set_data:dict]; relnil(dict); } return self; } - (void)forwardInvocation:(NSInvocation *)anInvocation { NSString * selectorName = [NSString stringWithUTF8String: sel_getName([anInvocation selector])]; NSRange range = [selectorName rangeOfString:@"set"]; NSInteger numArguments = [[anInvocation methodSignature] numberOfArguments]; if (range.location == 0 && numArguments == 4) { //setter [anInvocation setSelector:@selector(setData:withKey:)]; [anInvocation setArgument:&selectorName atIndex:3]; [anInvocation invokeWithTarget:self]; } else if (numArguments == 3) { [anInvocation setSelector:@selector(getDataWithKey:)]; [anInvocation setArgument:&selectorName atIndex:2]; [anInvocation invokeWithTarget:self]; } } - (NSMethodSignature *) methodSignatureForSelector:(SEL) aSelector { NSString * selectorName = [NSString stringWithUTF8String: sel_getName(aSelector)]; NSMethodSignature * sig = [super methodSignatureForSelector:aSelector]; if (sig == nil) { NSRange range = [selectorName rangeOfString:@"set"]; if (range.location == 0) { sig = [self methodSignatureForSelector:@selector(setData:withKey:)]; } else { sig = [self methodSignatureForSelector:@selector(getDataWithKey:)]; } } return sig; } - (NSObject *) getDataWithKey: (NSString *) key { NSObject * returnValue = [[self _data] objectForKey:key]; return returnValue; } - (void) setData: (NSObject *) data withKey:(NSString *)key { if (key && [key length] >= 5 && data) { NSRange range; range.length = 1; range.location = 3; NSString * firstChar = [key substringWithRange:range]; firstChar = [firstChar lowercaseString]; range.length = [key length] - 5; // the 4 we have processed plus the training : range.location = 4; NSString * adjustedKey = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@%@", firstChar, [key substringWithRange:range]]; [[self _data] setObject:data forKey:adjustedKey]; } else { //assert? } } @end

  • Using NSXMLParser with CDATA

    - by Robb
    I'm parsing an RSS feed with NSXMLParser and it's working fine for the title and other strings but one of the elements is an image thats like <!CDATA <a href="http:image..etc> How do I add that as my cell image in my table view? Would I define that as an image type? This is what i'm using to do my parsing: - (void)parser:(NSXMLParser *)parser didStartElement:(NSString *)elementName namespaceURI:(NSString *)namespaceURI qualifiedName:(NSString *)qName attributes:(NSDictionary *)attributeDict{ //NSLog(@"found this element: %@", elementName); currentElement = [elementName copy]; if ([elementName isEqualToString:@"item"]) { // clear out our story item caches... item = [[NSMutableDictionary alloc] init]; currentTitle = [[NSMutableString alloc] init]; currentDate = [ [NSMutableString alloc] init]; currentSummary = [[NSMutableString alloc] init]; currentLink = [[NSMutableString alloc] init]; } } - (void)parser:(NSXMLParser *)parser didEndElement:(NSString *)elementName namespaceURI:(NSString *)namespaceURI qualifiedName:(NSString *)qName{ //NSLog(@"ended element: %@", elementName); if ([elementName isEqualToString:@"item"]) { // save values to an item, then store that item into the array... [item setObject:currentTitle forKey:@"title"]; [item setObject:currentLink forKey:@"link"]; [item setObject:currentSummary forKey:@"description"]; [item setObject:currentDate forKey:@"date"]; [stories addObject:[item copy]]; NSLog(@"adding story: %@", currentTitle); } } - (void)parser:(NSXMLParser *)parser foundCharacters:(NSString *)string{ //NSLog(@"found characters: %@", string); // save the characters for the current item... if ([currentElement isEqualToString:@"title"]) { [currentTitle appendString:string]; } else if ([currentElement isEqualToString:@"link"]) { [currentLink appendString:string]; } else if ([currentElement isEqualToString:@"description"]) { [currentSummary appendString:string]; } else if ([currentElement isEqualToString:@"pubDate"]) { [currentDate appendString:string]; } }
