    My Del Dimension E521 running Windows 7 puts itself in sleep mode each night -- despite the fact that I have chosen a power option that specifies NEVER Each morning I find the monitor blank and I have to hit the power button on the PC at which point Windows "resumes". The system event log shows this: Source: Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-Power Date: 3/27/2010 3:21:10 AM Description: The system is entering sleep. Sleep Reason: System Idle My specific power options are: Turn off Display : 20 Minutes Put the computer to sleep : Never Is there some other setting coming into play here?

    From what I hear, Windows 7 is able to burn ISO files natively. I should be able to right-click on a given ISO and choose "Burn disk image", but I do not have that option on any ISO I try. I am assuming that I fudged the associations somehow. Can you help me get back on track?

    I have internet options selected for quick tabs and tab groups in setting, IE8 WIndows XP. I can open a list of favorites from the menu using the blue arrow as a tab group. I can then use the quick tabs button to show the groups open. However, I do not have the "add tab group to favorites" option in the pull down menu for favotites at the Favorite Bar. Is this a Vista feature only?

    I need to frame a page being served by SharePoint 2010's xlsviewer.aspx but this page is setting the HTTP response header X-FRAME-OPTION to SAMEORIGIN, so IE8 refuses to render the page in a frame on another domain, which is what I need. It appears that no other pages being served by this SharePoint instance set X-FRAME-OPTIONS, only _layouts/xlsviewer.aspx Where can I change the HTTP headers or framing options for SharePoint or this specific page? Relevant headers: GET //_layouts/xlviewer.aspx?id=whatever.xlsx&DefaultItemOpen=1 is returning: HTTP/1.1 200 OK . . .   • "Show hidden files" option is not working

    OK, I know this is the very basic thing that goes with Windows, but I am asking it here in search of answer. I put my pendrive and it autoruns. This changed the show hidden files option off, I mean I am not able to see my hidden files as it is not applying the changes. What is the registry file that has modified? I have scanned my computer using 4 antivirus programs. BitDefender found and deleted something in temperary folder. The rest didn't showed anything. I have encountered this problem a few more times but this time I don't want to format it ;-)

    (Related : How can I upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 8 and keep my files and applications? ) I'm trying to upgrade my Windows 7 Pro (msdnaa) to Windows 8 Pro (msdnaa). The Windows 8 is the final version (I don't have access to previews on msdnaa anymore). As you can see on the related question accepted answer, Windows 8 should give an option to keep installed programs. But it does not. The only available options are "Keep only personal datas" and "Nothing". Any idea ? I'm running with SP1. I've got two partitions (one of them only contains data of a virtual machine).     Hi, I'm building a NAS using Openfiler2.3 (from 32-bit ISO), first of all I want to experiment it on VM first before going out and buy the harddrives needed. I created 5 virtual drives on VMware, sda is 2GB and the rest 1GB each (sdb to sde). I left sda blank and want to setup a RAID 10 disk using sdb, sdc, sdd and sde, 4 RAID partitions are setup successfully, but when I try to create a RAID device the only option for RAID level is 1, 0, 5 and 6. RAID 10 is not there! Can someone let me know what have I missed, please? TIA.

  • Quiet Sound while recording using the "Stereo Mix" option on Windows XP.

    I'm trying to record some of my work, and the video capture program I'm using works fine. It's HyperCam2, and since it's not really professional, I don't care about that little thing in the corner. Anyways, If I check the record sound option and put it on the highest quality, and I want it to record the sounds playing from my computer, I have it record the "Stereo Mix" setting. However, after a quick test, I saw that even though my computer was at max volume, the recorded sound was very quiet, almost inaudible. Thinking it was just HyperCam, I downloaded Audacity, and only met similar results. While I'm not entirely savvy with hardware, I BELIEVE this to be my soundcard: SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD Audio

  • Why is the "Standard Account" option disabled (grayed-out)

    I just installed Win7 64bit on a new hard drive, and I created a user account through the OOBE. I want to make my user account a standard user. However, if I go into "User Accounts" and select "Change my account type", the standard user option is greyed out--this account apparently has to be an administrator. I thought maybe it was the only admin account on the machine, so I tried to create a new user account named "Administrator", but was told I couldn't, because one already exists. What gives? What do I have to do to run as a standard user?

    From my understanding, the following should mean exactly the same: ls -1 | xargs file {} ls -1 | xargs -I{} file {} if -I option is not specified, it is default to -I{}. I want to list all files in the current directory and run file command on each of them. Some have spaces in their names. However, I noticed the difference. See below: $ ls -1 Hello World $ ls -1 | xargs file {} {}: ERROR: cannot open `{}' (No such file or directory) Hello: ERROR: cannot open `Hello' (No such file or directory) World: ERROR: cannot open `World' (No such file or directory) $ ls -1 | xargs -I{} file {} Hello World: directory With -I{} explicitly specified, blanks in file names are treated as expected.

    I love the fact that tree and list controls in Windows allows incremental searches. Just select a starting point, and type, and the control will select the best matching node for you. This works in SSMS, but there's an annoying problem, especially so in the table node. SSMS prefixes all table names with the schema name and a dot. To make an incremental search here, I have to type 'dbo.', followed by whatever I'm searching for. Is there an option to turn off this table name representation in SSMS? I hope I'm asking this on the right stack exchange site. If you feel it's off base, let me know!

  • VLC Ati Radeon 6870 Ubuntu 12.04 image skewed flicker

    I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 with ATI Radeon 6870 connected to my 40' Sharp TV. The video image is slightly jigged, like breaking a bit and slightly delayed. It just isn't smooth. The computer is very fast, like i7 with 12gb ram.
