  • PHP/MySQL Performance Testing with Just PHP

    - by Mike Gifford
I'm trying to diagnose a server where the website is loading very slowly, but unfortunately my client has only provided me with FTP access. I've got FTP access so I can upload PHP scripts, but can't set up any other server side tools. I have access to phpMyAdmin, but not direct access to the MySQL server. It is also unfortunately a Windows server (and we've been a Linux shop for over a decade now). So, if I wan to evaluate MySQL & disk speed performance through PHP on a generic server, what is the best way to do this? There are already tools like: https://github.com/raphaelm/php-benchmark or https://github.com/InfinitySoft/php-benchmark But I'm surprised there isn't something that someone has already set up & configured to just run through and do some basic testing of a server's responsiveness. Every time we evaluate a new server environment it's handy to be able to compare it to an existing one quickly to see if there are any anomalies. I guess I'd just hoped that someone else had written up a script to do this already. I know I have, but that was before Github when there was a handy place to post scraps of code like this. Originally posted in http://stackoverflow.com/questions/12321498/php-mysql-performance-testing-with-just-php but it was recommended that I re-post it here.

  • Run virtualbox in other X session

    - by Valicek1
I'm running ubuntu on my laptop (host). Inside ubuntu, there is running one instance of virtualbox. (where is installed MS Windows). My idea is to run virtualbox in separate X session (something like multiuser). If it is not clear, i'll try to explain... When I want to visit tty1, I'll press CTRL+ALT+F1. To return to my Unity desktop, I'm gona use CTRL+ALT+F7... And here comes what I need. After pressing CTRL+ALT+F8 show fullscreen virtualbox windows system, just to switch as ttys.. I am using Ubuntu 14.10. I have wasted hours by using google to find some solution, but my biggest prolem is I cannot name the problem.

  • Apache2 + Php + Pthreads HowTos

    - by Drug
04 LTS 64 bit. What I would really love to do is sudo apt-get install libapache2-mod-php5 but compile PHP with --enable-maintainer-zts so I could later install pthreads with pecl install pthreads. Sadly I understand that it is not possible. I know that the easiest way is to recompile PHP together with apache support and zts. However I really like the way the standard Ubuntu PHP package is configured and I am used to the path`s for CLI php.ini config, Apache php.ini config and other paths for modules and files that this Ubuntu package defines. So i just want to change the package source a little bit and install it. # Get the stuff necessary to build the package sudo apt-get build-dep php5-common # Get the package source sudo apt-get source php5-common At this point I am getting sources not for the php5-common package but the whole php5 package. If I would sudo make && make install at this point, would it mean that I am installing a lot of unnecessary stuff? # Add configuration options ./configure --enable-maintainer-zts Does this mean that I am appending a configuration option? Or am I generating a whole new config? Alternative at this point Is there a way of getting the config options that this package defines, so that I can grab a php source from php.net and compile it with $ ./configure --prefix=package_prefix \ // Option 1 from package --enable-embed \ // Option 2 from package --with-regex=php \ // Option 3 from package Continuing the main idea ... Solution 1 # Compile (Not compiling) sudo make && make install Will I be building PHP with EVERYTHING at this point? If I compile like this, I will not be able to remove the mess I made using sudo apt-get purge php5? Solution 2 # ReCompile the package dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot -uc -b This does not compile also. Please correct my steps, so I can install everything correctly.

  • PHP Script Won't Run - Apache2/MySQL Servers Running, PHP Installed - Ubuntu 10.04

    - by nicorellius
I am trying to install a CRM on a Linux (Ubuntu 10.04) laptop to do some testing. Installing the current versions of Apache, MySQL and PHP, and getting the CRM to run is easy. It's when I try to go backwards and run it on a previous set of versions I run into problems. This is what I have done: I have installed Apache 2.2.14, MySQL 5.0.83, and PHP 5.2.8. When I type something like mysql --version I get back what I would expect: version and distribution info. The same goes for Apache2 and PHP. The Apache server is running and so is mysqld. So when I go to my browser and look at http://localhost/<CRM dir>/install.php Firefox offers to open the PHP file or save it, as if it doesn't recognize the file. What should happen is that I should get a welcome page and the installation wizard for this CRM distribution should start. I have tried so many different things I probably screwed up something along the way. I have restarted the servers over and over, and even recompiled the versions of MySQL and PHP with no problems. I am hoping I am overlooking something simple because I am lost. Any help is appreciated.

  • Failed to load session "ubuntu"

    - by harsh
I installed CCSM to enable window previews in Unity. But when I went into extras, there was no 'window preview' option. So I tried experimenting with other options in Compiz and now there are no borders in the dialogue boxes (close, minimize, restore buttons are not there, I had enabled some 'flat....' option in Compiz. Later, I uninstalled Compiz and then reinstalled it. Now it says "Failed to load session Ubuntu" I can't even access through the guest account, I am new to Ubuntu.(please explain in detail). All I have access to is the login screen (it still shows my custom wallpaper). Please help, I don't want to lose my stuff.

  • Are session aware Models a bad thing?

    - by kevtufc
I'm thinking specifically in Rails here, but I suspect this is a wider question. In a Rails web application I'm using data from the session in models in order that the models know who is logged in. I use this in a method which filters out some data from the database depending on a very simple permissions system. The thing is: using sessions in models in Rails requires a bit of a workaround. It works, but I've a feeling that it's something that I shouldn't be doing and I'm worried there's a big gotcha I'm missing. I suppose the Right Thing To Do would be to return all the data and filter out the not-wanted bits in the controller before passing that to the view, but doing it in the model seems to avoid quite a bit of code duplication and so feels "cleaner." Can anyone tell me why or shouldn't do this? Or that it's not a problem?

  • Starting off with web dev with php

    - by pavan kumar
I'm currently working with Java / C++. I'm interested in web development and am planning to shift my stream. I heard that PHP is a good platform to start off and also it does not require that much of knowledge in technologies like JSP / Servlets or frameworks like springs / struts / hibernate. I have basic ideas about HTML and Javascript as well. I have gone through previous posts in SO and found out the relevant resources as well: http://net.tutsplus.com/tutorials/php/the-best-way-to-learn-php/ http://www.webhostingtalk.com/archive/index.php/t-1028265.html http://www.killerphp.com/ http://phpforms.net/tutorial/tutorial.html http://www.php5-tutorial.com/ etc. Now, my question is: I heard of PHP frameworks like CodeIgniter, Zend Frameworkd and Yii. Doesn't learning PHP & MySql implicitly makes us aware of these frameworks? Am I making a good choice in stating with PHP? Is it a good idea to shift streams?

  • Recaptcha php problem [closed]

    - by Sam Gabriel
Hey guys, I'm using recaptcha and I've got a problem, when a user clicks the signup button it redirects him to the sign up verification page, and here is the code, found on the very top of the web code, that checks the recaptcha entered data. <?php require_once('recaptchalib.php'); $privatekey = "***"; $resp = recaptcha_check_answer ($privatekey, $_SERVER["REMOTE_ADDR"], $_POST["recaptcha_challenge_field"], $_POST["recaptcha_response_field"]); if (!$resp->is_valid) { header('location: signup.php'); } ?> But it seems whatever I type in in the recaptcha box, be it right or wrong, I get redirected to the signup.php page. Here is the recaptcha code in the signup.php page: <?php ini_set('display_errors', 'On'); error_reporting(E_ALL | E_STRICT); require_once('recaptchalib.php'); $publickey = "***"; echo recaptcha_get_html($publickey); ?>

  • PHP sessions currupt

    - by Baversjo
Using symfony framework 1.4 I have created a website. I'm using sfguard for authentication. Now, this is working great on WAMP (windows). I can login to several accounts on different browsers and use the website. I have ubuntu server 9.10 running apache (everything up to date and default configuration). On my server, when I login to the website in one browser it works great. When I on my other computer login with another user account on the public website, the login is successful. But when I refresh/go to another page the first user is shown as logged in instead! Also, when I press logout, It's not showing that I'm logged out after page load. When I press f5 again I'm logged out. As mentioned, all this works as expected on my local installation. I'm thinking there something wrong with my PHP session configuration on my ubuntu server, but I've never touched it.. Please help me. This is a school project and I'm presenting it today :(

  • Session persistence problem

    - by YsoL8
Hello I'm having a problem with getting sessions to persist, and having no luck searching, I need to ask. I can access the contents of my session as expected when first set, but as soon as the page refreshes I lose everything and I don't see why. session_start() is set and I'm not unseting or destroying anything. I looked at PHP Info under sessions and everything looks ok (but my understanding of sessions is limited). I'm running MAMP on OS 10.5, and the last time I used sessions they worked.

  • PHP fails silently when php-code is within html tag

    - by Michal M
PROBLEM UPDATED, READ BELOW For some reason my CI fails silently when loading view. Loading view is simply called from controller $this->load->view('templates/default.php'); Now. There are some functions in the loaded view that are not defined unless a proper helper is loaded as well. Normally, php would throw an error, but instead it fails silently here. I have no idea why. The template gets outputted till the line containing the undefined function. It took me long time to realise where my script is failing. Here's my setup: Windows 7 Ultimate Apache 2.2.15 PHP 5.3.2 with following error reporting settings: display_errors = On display_startup_errors = On error_reporting = E_ALL | E_STRICT CodeIgniter 1.7.2 Any ideas why would that be? UPDATE After further debugging, it turned out that PHP fails to report any errors when php code is inline with HTML and within the HTML tag. Now this is bizarre. This returns Fatal Error: <p><?php echo $bogus(); ?></p> This doesn't and fails silently: <p class="<?php echo $bogus(); ?>">paragraph</p> Why? :O UPDATE 2 Further investigation showed that if an error_log in PHP is specified, the errors are in fact reported in that file, but still not in the browser... Again, why? UPDATE 3 Actually my code should be slightly different. Checked another PHP installation on completely different machine and it confirmed the PHP bug. Reported here: http://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=52040

  • PHP Session Id changes between pages

    - by willl69
Hi All, I have a problem where i am losing the PHP session between 2 pages. The session_start() is included in a file called session-inc.php into every page requiring a session to be set. This works for all pages on the site except one particular page, member-profile.php. When this page is visited a new session with a different id (same session name) is set and used instead. A few more details: Session name is set manually All pages are on the same server under the same domain name If i put an additional session_start() above the include('session-inc.php') in the member-profile.php file, the session is carried over correctly I have tried setting the session_cookie_domain and session.session_name in the .htaccess, this worked for this domain but it stopped the session being passed over to out payment domain We are running apache 2.2.6 with php 5.2.5 Putting the session_start() above the include('session-inc.php') in the member-profile.php file is the quick and dirty fix for this problem, but i am wondering if anybody know why this would be happening. Cheers Will

  • PHP Sessions Error

As well as this one: Warning: session_start() [function.session-start]: Cannot send session cache limiter - headers already sent by (output started at somefile:someline). The session_start(); is the very first thing in all of my code. I'm not sure what the problem is. It gave me line numbers but all I do on those lines is start the session. Also - I have a portion of code whose POST action is another PHP page. How can I set a $_SESSION variable pertaining to this page within that action page?

  • Problem with session based login after moving relevent files to site root

Hello I have a site which I have been testing in a sub-folder of my clients site-root. I had no log in problems during testing, but then I moved the new site files from a sub-directory to the main site root, and now I'm losing my logged in state after almost every page refresh in secure areas. I am running a $_session based login system that refreshes the session id on every page load, with a comparison value stored in the MySQL database. Does anyone have suggestions for what could be causing this problem?

  • Domain entities into (ASP.NET) Session, or better some kind of DTOs?

    - by Robert
Currently we put Domain Objects into our ASP.NET Sessions. Now we considering moving from InProc sessions to state server. This requires that all objects inside session are serializable. Instead to annotate all objects with the [Serializable] attribute, we thought about creating custom-session objects (DTO Session Objects?), which only contain the information we need: CONS: Entities must be reloaded, which requires additional DB round-trips PROS: Session State is smaller Session information is more specific (could be a CON) No unneeded annotation of Domain-Entities What do you think? Should we use some kind of DTOs to store inside the session, or should we stick with god old entities?

  • /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libc.so.6 causing segmentation fault & session crash

    I am having repeated and frequent crashes ending session whenever I take certain actions such as loading gmail under Chrome. Oddly, the same is not happening when I go to gmail under Chrome. After rooting around in /var/logs it appears to me that he trigger is something to do with libc.so.6 (see below). How can I fix this? 23936.947] [ 23936.947] Backtrace: [ 23936.948] 0: /usr/bin/X (xorg_backtrace+0x49) [0xb7745089] [ 23936.948] 1: /usr/bin/X (0xb75bf000+0x189d7a) [0xb7748d7a] [ 23936.948] 2: (vdso) (__kernel_rt_sigreturn+0x0) [0xb759c40c] [ 23936.948] 3: /usr/bin/X (0xb75bf000+0xfade7) [0xb76b9de7] [ 23936.948] 4: /usr/bin/X (ValidatePicture+0x1d) [0xb76bcb8d] [ 23936.949] 5: /usr/bin/X (CompositePicture+0xc3) [0xb76bcc83] [ 23936.949] 6: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/intel_drv.so (0xb6f18000+0xcf542) [0xb6fe7542] [ 23936.949] 7: /usr/bin/X (0xb75bf000+0x10b1d7) [0xb76ca1d7] [ 23936.949] 8: /usr/bin/X (CompositeGlyphs+0xc4) [0xb76b6d84] [ 23936.949] 9: /usr/bin/X (0xb75bf000+0x104956) [0xb76c3956] [ 23936.949] 10: /usr/bin/X (0xb75bf000+0xfe6f1) [0xb76bd6f1] [ 23936.949] 11: /usr/bin/X (0xb75bf000+0x3798d) [0xb75f698d] [ 23936.949] 12: /usr/bin/X (0xb75bf000+0x253ba) [0xb75e43ba] **[ 23936.950] 13: /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libc.so.6 (__libc_start_main+0xf3) [0xb721d4d3] [ 23936.950] 14: /usr/bin/X (0xb75bf000+0x256f9) [0xb75e46f9] [ 23936.950] [ 23936.950] Segmentation fault at address 0x155 [ 23936.950] Caught signal 11 (Segmentation fault). • grid layout default on wordpress theme

    - by nathan philpott
    I'm having trouble with a multi-layout option on a wordpress theme sight http://sight.wpshower.com/ the traffic have the option of a grid or a list layout at the click of a button. at present the list layout is default. I am interested in making the grid layout default . this is some of the php, i tried simply swapping the word grid for list but although this does work to an extent , if done on the loop.php page it removes the a:hover functions on the post boxes in the grid format. also if done on the index.php it switches buttons on the main index page. any ideas?? loop.php <div id="loop" class="<?php if ($_COOKIE['mode'] == 'grid') echo 'grid'; else echo 'list'; ?> clear"> <?php while ( have_posts() ) : the_post(); ?> <div <?php post_class('post clear'); ?> id="post_<?php the_ID(); ?>"> <?php if ( has_post_thumbnail() ) :?> <a href="<?php the_permalink() ?>" class="thumb"><?php the_post_thumbnail('thumbnail', array( 'alt' => trim(strip_tags( $post->post_title )), 'title' => trim(strip_tags( $post->post_title )), )); ?></a> <?php endif; ?> <div class="post-category"><?php the_category(' / '); ?></div> <h2><a href="<?php the_permalink() ?>"><?php the_title(); ?></a></h2> <!-- <div class="post-meta">by <span class="post-author"><a href="<?php echo get_author_posts_url(get_the_author_meta('ID')); ?>" title="Posts by <?php the_author(); ?>"><?php the_author(); ?></a></span> on <span class="post-date"><?php the_time(__('M j, Y')) ?></span> <em>&bull; </em><?php comments_popup_link(__('No Comments'), __('1 Comment'), __('% Comments'), '', __('Comments Closed')); ?> <?php edit_post_link( __( 'Edit entry'), '<em>&bull; </em>'); ?> </div> --> <?php edit_post_link( __( 'Edit entry'), '<em>&bull; </em>'); ?> <div class="post-content"><?php if (function_exists('smart_excerpt')) smart_excerpt(get_the_excerpt(), 55); ?></div> </div> <?php endwhile; ?> </div> <?php endif; ?> index.php <?php get_header(); ?> <div class="content-title"> Projects <a href="javascript: void(0);" id="mode"<?php if ($_COOKIE['mode'] == 'grid') echo ' class="flip"'; ?>></a> </div> <?php query_posts(array( 'post__not_in' => $exl_posts, 'paged' => $paged, ) ); ?> <?php get_template_part('loop'); ?> <?php wp_reset_query(); ?> <?php get_template_part('pagination'); ?> <?php get_footer(); ?>
