  • How can I force mod_perl to only allow one process per connection?

    I have a perl cgi script that's fairly resource intensive (takes about 2 seconds to finish). This is fine as long as only at most 4 or 5 of them are running at the same time and that's usually the case. The problem is that when a user clicks a link that calls this script, a new process is spawned to handle that connection request, so if a user clicks many times (if they're impatient), the server gets overloaded with new processes running and most of them are redundant. How can I ensure that only one instance of this process is running per host? This is an old system that I'm maintaining which uses an old framework for the frontend, and I would like to avoid using javascript to disable the button client side if possible. Converting this to fast-cgi perl is out of the question as well, again because this is an old system and adding fast-cgi to apache might break a lot of other things that this thing runs.

    in the html file: <!--#exec cgi="/cgi-bin/test.pl"--> the perl script: #!/usr/bin/perl print "Content-Type: text/html\n\n"; print "<input type=\"hidden\" name=\"aname\" value=\"avalue\">\n"; print "<img src=\"/cgi-bin/script.pl\" />"; This does not give me an 'error processing directive' error, nor does it output my HTML inplace of the tag. I'll also add that the ssi tag gets replaced with nothing.

  • Why doesn't my Perl script start under FastCGI?

    I am getting this error in error_log one of my Perl CGI application. I am pretty sure I haven't changed my script at all and all of a sudden i have started getting this error. This is what I see in error_log: [Wed Jul 8 15:18:20 2009] [warn] FastCGI: server "/local/web/test/cgi-bin/test.pl" (pid 17033) terminated by calling exit with status '255' [Wed Jul 8 15:18:20 2009] [warn] FastCGI: server "/local/web/test/cgi-bin/test.pl" has failed to remain running for 30 seconds given 3 attempts, its restart interval has been backed off to 600 seconds (The snippet was edited for clarity) Also, the AddHandler line for FastCGI exists in the config file. Can any tell me the possible reasons for this error? There is nothing recorded in Apache logs.

  • Configure APC for maximum hit rate

    I'm currently running php5 with APC, the latter with default configuration. However after setting up munin to monitor APC, I'm surprised by the results: apc.shm_size: 30 apc.gc_ttl: 3600 apc.ttl: 0 Used: 14MB Request rate: 100 requests/second Fragmentation: 0 Hit ratio: 80% (dropping to 0 a few times per hour) So the obvious question: how can I adapt the configuration to achieve a higher hitrate. I find it very strange that the available memory is not fully used which the hitratio is still below what I would expect. Thank for any hints!

I'm not sure what's causing the issue, or have been able to recreate it. My guess is that one of the softwares I listed below is freezing or something.   • Trying to setup virtual hosts on unix PHP on nginx

    I have tried to install php5-fpm and Nginx on Ubuntu machine, but I got a problem. When I have only one virtual host on a unix port it is all fine but when I try to add another virtual host Nginx goes to default web page "Welcome to Nginx!" but when I run it on a tcp port example port 9000 it work fine with multisites. It is a fresh install of ubuntu 11.10, Nginx 1.2.3 with php5-fpm installed. It also has extra php installs such as php-apc. I can only give the links to the virtual hosts because I am doing it from a mobile phone.     just installed php 5.3.2 with apache 2.2. I am not able to restart apache because apache is not able to load the php5 module. The dll file php5apache2_2.dll exists, the path is correct in the conf file, still it doesn't load. My OS is windows XP 64 bit. What am I doing wrong? :(

  • Open source file upload with no timeout on IIS6 with ASP, ASP.NET 2.0 or PHP5

    I'm after a cross-platform cross-browser way of uploading files such that there is no timeout. Uploads aren't necessarily huge -- some just take a long time to upload because of the uploader's slow connection -- but the server times out anyway. I hear that there are methods to upload files in chunks so that somehow the server decides not to timeout the upload. After searching around all I can see is proprietary upload helpers and Java and Flash (SWFUpload) widgets that aren't cross-platform, don't upload in chunks, or aren't free. I'd like a way to do it in any of these platforms (ASP, ASP.NET 2.0 or PHP5), though I am not very clued up on all this .NET class/controller/project/module/visual studio/compile/etc stuff, so some kind of runnable complete project that runs on .NET 2.0 would be helpful. PHP and ASP I can assume will be more straight-forward. Unless I am completely missing something, which I suspect/hope I am, reasonable web uploads are bloody hard work in any language or platform. So my question is: how can I perform web browser uploads, cross-platform, so that they don't timeout, using free software? Is it possible at all?

  • Hosting Mecurial HG via VisualSVN Server

    I have tried to host a Mercurial HG repository using a Scriptalias. ScriptAlias /hg/ "htdocs/hgwebdir.cgi" If I go to Chrome it display the contents of the cgi file. In IE it does render however images and links are not displayed. In either case the repository I want to display is not shown. Has anyone managed to get this working with VisualSVN? Also will this work if I have windows authentication and https? Thanks David

  • Can't Install libcurl PHP on Ubuntu Linux

    I am trying to use the new facebook api and it requires libcurl PHP. I used sudo apt-get install php5-curl sudo apachectl -k restart And it didn't work. I get the same error and the phpinfo() page says nothing about libcurl. The source of this problem is probably that I built some of the tools from source (apache2, php), but then I got bored so installed a lot of the extensions with the package manager. But I'm not exactly how to go about diagnosing the point of failure. The apt-get install for curl definitely worked, and can be found in /usr/lib/php5/20060613/curl.so I think a lot of my confusion stems from not knowing which files go where, and what purpose they have.     I have a custom built Ubuntu 11.04 server with a 6 disk software RAID 10 primary drive. On it I'm primarily running a PostgreSQL and a few other utilities that stream data from the web. I often find after a few hours of uptime the server starts to lag with all kinds of processes. For example, it may take 10-15 seconds after log-in to get a shell prompt. It might take 5-10 seconds for top to come up. An ls might take a second or two. When I look at top there is almost no CPU usage. There's a fair amount of memory used by the PostgreSQL server but not enough to bleed into swap. I have no idea where to go from here, other than to suspect the RAID10 (I've only ever had software RAID 1's before). I am trying to get started on nginx with PHP-FPM, but I noticed that the server block setup I currently have (gathered from several guides including the nginx Pitfalls wiki page) produces $_SERVER variables that are different from what I'm used to seeing in Apache setups. After spending the last evening trying to "fix" this, I decided to install Apache on my local computer and gather the variables that I'm interested in under different conditions so that I could try and mimic them on nginx. The Apache setup I've on my computer has only one mod_rewrite rule: RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{SCRIPT_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{SCRIPT_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /index.php/$1 [L] And these are the values I get for different request URIs (left is Apache, right is nginx): localhost/ - http://www.mergely.com/GnzBHRV1/ localhost/foo/bar/baz/?foo=bar - http://www.mergely.com/VwsT8oTf/ localhost/index.php/foo/bar/baz/?foo=bar - http://www.mergely.com/VGEFehfT/ What configuration directives would allow me to get similar values on requests handled by nginx? I'm running PHP 5.4.8 and nginx/1.1.19. I don't know what else to try... Help?
