    Link to menu: Professional dropdown #2 I was wondering if these posts Suckerfish meets jQuery or Son of Suckerfish dropdowns in jQuery could optimize the menu above. I need the menu to be optimized for IE6, because when I use the menu as it is, the menu hangs after I click on a menu item that loads a page with heavy processing. It takes too long for the menu to be enabled again. Any ideas?

  • What can we do to make Microsoft add IntelliTrace to VS 2010 Professional Edition?

    Now that Microsoft has released VS 2010 I went to the product page here. To my amazement I found out that IntelliTrace(Historical Debugger) is supported only on the Ultimate Edition of VS 2010. This mean that you have to spend almost $4000 for renewal and almost $12000 for a new license. Does someone have any idea how can we change this decision? Especially make them add this feature to VS 2010 Professional Edition.

  • Joining Windows 7 Professional to a Windows Server 2003 R2 x64 domain fails.

    I have a windows 7 professional (spanish) laptop trying to join a Windows Server 2003 (english) domain. It detect correctly the SRV record, finding the proper domain controller, but then the join fails with the error message (snippet, because the error is in spanish) An Active Directory Domain Controller for This Domain Could Not be Contacted The DNS is correctly set, and client can ping by name and IP the server, the server can ping the client by IP. I've tested with the FW down to no avail. A host of other XP Pro clients are connected to the domain. I've restarted Net Logon and checked that Windows Time is up. Also the times are in sync between the server and the client. I'll put below diagnostics output. I'm wondering if there's anything special to be done on either the server or the client to have a Win 7 Pro join a 2k3 R2 domain.   • Flash Player 10.1 for Flash Professional CS4 playerglobal.swc?

    Adobe released projector, debugger and plugin for Flash 10.1 yesterday. on my Mac i've installed the standalone player and debugger in Adobe Flash CS4/Players/ and Adobe Flash CS4/Players/Debug respectively. however, i think i need to download the globalplayer.swc for 10.1 so that Flash CS4 IDE is directed to use the new players. i've searched but i could only find the globalplayer.swc that was released during the 10.1 betas, and i'm not sure if that's the .swc i should use for the final 10.1 release. Adobe's site doesn't mention anything about replacing the .swc to use 10.1 in CS4, so i'm not sure if it's necessary. i've tried creating actionscripts to include flash.ui.Multitouch and flashx.textLayout and neither can be found. i have no idea how to make Flash Professional CS4 use the new APIs available in Flash Player 10.1 suggestions?

  • where does the professional sheen of a GUI application realistically come from?

    I have been playing around with php-gtk recently and in the past I have experimented with Java to make GUI 'hello world' apps. However both these types of applications have had a bit of a clunky (almost childish) look and feel to them. I cannot deny that they are handy for making apps for in-house use (and I totally respect the amount of community effort that goes into these projects). But I would not necessarily be proud to sell it as a commercial application with a price tag of, say, £450 or £1,000. If I wanted to make an application that had the look and feel of, say, Firefox for Windows, or Adobe xyz, what GUI/language should I use? Is the 'professional sheen' or smart look and feel down to the designer or is it the case that, no matter how good a designer is, picking the right GUI framework is essential to get that look?

  • The file STDOLE2.TLB cannot be found or contains a Visual Basic for Applications library that is not

    In Microsoft Project 2007 Professional, If I select Tools Macro Security the message: The file "STDOLE.TLB" cannot be found or contains a Visual Basic for Applications library that is not valid. Verify that the file name is correct, and try again. If the Visual Basic for Applications library is invalid, reinstall Project. I am a software developer and I have developed an Add-In for MS Project using Visual Studio 2005, with all the problems that entails. As such my machine is configured with both Project 2003 Professional and Project 2007 Professional. I only noticed this error when trying to debug my Add-In. The Add-In loads and draws the menu, but when I click on the menu option I receive this error (which is also generated by the Tools Macros Security option mentioned above). I have tried repairing office installations and uninstalling everything and then re-installing everything all over again, but after several hours I still get the same problem. Does anyone have any idea how to resolve this? Some method of finding out what type libraries are registered with STDOLE2.TLB may help if I can identify what is causing the problem. Also a way of manually unregistering the nasty library may be helpful. My machine is configured as follows: Windows 7 Ultimate x64 Project 2003 Professional Office 2007 Ultimate Project 2007 Professional Visio 2007 Professional Visual Studio 2005 Team Edition for Developers Visual Studio 2005 Tools for Office Second edition Visual Studio 2008 Professional I also installed MS Project 2010 Beta to test my Add-In against, but have since uninstalled it. I have a suspicion that this may have caused the problem, but I cannot be sure.

  • Is there a cheaper non-express non-student, non-msdn version of Visual Studio 2010 that supports plugins in the US than the $710 Professional Edition?

    I've never actually purchased a copy of Visual Studio myself. SharpDevelop and Express edition have always been good enough for my personal use, and my employers always furnished me with the IDEs I needed to serve them. However, I'm thinking of actually paying for a copy for my personal laptop. I need this mainly so I can open solutions that contain web projects. So my question is: Is there an edition cheaper than the $710 Pro edition on Amazon that will do what I need: http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-C5E-00521-Visual-Studio-Professional/dp/B0038KTO8S/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1287456230&sr=8-2 ? What I need is defined as: Open up a solution with C#, Web App, VB.NET, and Web Projects. Install addins like resharper, testdriven.net, etc, SCM plugins, etc. Some level of db project support. At least to be able to open a dbproj. I only need that for SCM hooks. SSMS and SQLCMD are good enough for actually editing databases. Ability to install F#, IronPython, IronRuby etc. Now naturally I'm a fairly intelligent resourceful person so I realize I can get Visual Studio in a questionable manner. Thats not what I'm looking to do. I want a legal copy, I don't want a student copy, or an MSDN copy. I want a real copy, I just want to make sure I get the cheapest edition that serves my needs.

    Possible Duplicate: Naming convention for computers It seems an important and difficult dilemma for me how to name network hosts (routers, servers (while a server can be a router and host diverse services at the same time), virtual machines (while they host important services and can migrate), workstations and notebooks (using pc-username is not the best idea as users may change), printers & MFUs, surveillance IP cameras, etc). Are there known and accepted best practices for this task? Excuse me if there already was a similar question here (I think it probably was), I haven't found it.

  • Netbook with Windows 7 Starter - Can I upgrade to Professional or Ultimate?

    There are finally Windows 7 netbooks available, but they come with Windows 7 "Starter". Can I upgrade "Starter" to Windows 7 Ultimate using a normal retail DVD (and its new licence key)? What about special netbook drivers? Will they be replaced by an in-place upgrade? Does Windows 7 even have a way to upgrade to another edition or will I have to delete and re-install? If I delete and re-install, how will I get the special netbook drivers to install again? In my case it will probably be a HP netbook (HP Mini 110-1115SA). Can I just install the drivers from the HP CD that comes with the computer? Any ideas?

    Is there a reason this port is open, a quick Nmap scan and Nessus scan reveal it's open, why? Are there any ramifications if I close this port via the firewall rule set? Or does anyone here now more info about this port besides Google? WTF? 1)http://www.symantec.com/connect/blogs/who-left-tunnel-door-open-windows-firewall-vista-0 I know the talk is about Vista, but I am pretty sure it's the same port on 7, also. 2)Port 5357 common errors:The port is vulnerable to info leak problems allowing it to be accessed remotely by malicious authors. (Web Services for Devices) I am blocking this crap, if I have issues will just re-enable. Damn windows. Inbound rule for Network Discovery to allow WSDAPI Events via Function Discovery. [TCP 5357] You just got blocked, until I break something, will see. Time to re-Nmap and re-Nessus. Nmap scan 0 open ports after closing Port 5357,Win7 still works for now, one more scan with Nessus just to make sure all is well.

  • Quality wise, is Windows Media Audio 10 Professional equivalent to WMA?

    I noticed that for encoding CD rips, Zune is still using WMA 9.2 instead of WMA 10 Pro. On a given file using the highest quality VBR settings looks like this: VBR Quality 98, 44 kHz, stereo 1-pass VBR On the same file if I use WMA 10 Pro, with the same settings, the resulting file is about 20% smaller. Using my ears, I'm unable to tell the difference, but I'm wondering if this was the goal of WMA 10 Pro (to be as good as WMA at a lower bitrate). Is the quality of a WMA 10 Pro file equal to that of a WMA 9.2 file encoded with the same settings?

  • What differences are there between "home" switches and "professional" switches?

    Our radio station uses a PtP wireless system to stream our radio and TV signals from our studio up a hill to our transmitter. We have been having problems with warbly sound and drop outs that come from some point in this system. An engineer that occasionally visits the station thinks it could be the switches we use on each side of the PtP wireless system to connect the PtP devices to the encoders and decoders and wants us to get two of these switches: http://www.amazon.com/Netgear-JGS516-ProSafe-16-Port-Ethernet/dp/B0002CWPOK/ref=dp_return_1 The encoder/decoder setup only streams 8Mbps total so it seems like the switches we have should not be stressed out, unless they are causing sufficient latency to degrade the performance of the encoder/decoder. At each end of the connection we only have 4 connections, is there any reason we couldn't get a cheaper, "home" quality switch like this: http://www.amazon.com/D-Link-DGS-1005G-5-Port-Gigabit-Desktop/dp/tech-data/B003X7TRWE/ref=de_a_smtd Is there a significant difference that we would notice in terms of latency between these two switches?   • For the professional programmers - do you still write code for fun at home ? [closed]

    Possible Duplicate: Do you ever code just for fun? I've been working as a 'professional' coder for about 11 years. (I've just turned 33.) When I talk to my collegues, I find that most of them actually don't program any more in their spare time - 8 (or 10 :)) hours a day at their job is enough for them. A difference between me and them might be that I was always programming for fun (demoscene stuff etc.) which is why I got into the field, while most of them picked up programming later on (at university or whatever). When I get home my head is always full of ideas, so usually I have a hobby-project going on. Is it weird to spend 8 hours a day programming, and then get home, have dinner, and do some more ? For me the reasons are just - ideas : trying stuff - wanting to develop something all by myself, so when it's finished I can claim it as my own victory How about you ? And if you do, do you have other reasons to do so ? Edit: And if you've got sparetime projects, it might be fun to tell us a bit about it :) Spamming a link to your site/hobbyproject won't be frowned upon here ! I've seen some certifications that could be interesting: CIW Web Security Professional CISSP® - Certified Information Systems Security Professional Certified Secure Software Lifecycle Professional What do you know about these certifications? are they recognized? I'm not trying to become a hacker, I just want to ensure I have enough knowledge about web security to cope with today internet. From my inexpert point of view, "Certified Secure Software Lifecycle Professional" looks exactly as I want, the problem is that it cost more than 500 bucks! Why certification? well, I want to learn but I would like also have a way to demonstrate to a future employer/customer that I had to study and pass exams, not only attend to a course. Regards.

  • I'm a professional Java developer, should I learn .NET?

    Java and .NET seem to have a great number of parallels especially in the web application area. Both languages have many of the same technologies especially in terms of open source libraries (JUnit and NUnit, Hibernate and NHibernate) but there are also plenty of differences and different approaches to solving certain software development problems. As a Java developer I get the feeling I'm missing out on learning about web application development from the .NET point of view and I could learn a lot about the general principles by learning two languages rather than getting stuck in the details of Java and not seeing the bigger picture. So the first question is, do you agree? Does learning two separate but similar languages such as Java and .NET make you a better programmer? Secondly, I'm worried that if I choose to take, for example, a MCPD ASP.NET 3.5 certification it won't actually help me get work doing .NET development because it goes against all my existing experience. Is trying to broaden your skills a good career choice or is it a better decision to choose one technology and stick with that?
