  • I used disk copy to clone my drive, now my windows 7 profile won't load correctly

    I used easeuse disk copy, after acronis, clonezilla, windows image restore failed me. Basically it copys all sectors, I set it to skip bad sectors(40). The source drive works, it just gave me a couple errors and stopped booting at one point. The drive is an identical copy, minus 40 bad errors. The drive is set to C and active partition, I rebuilt the boot order. I've ran sfc /scannow and ran chkdsk /r chkdsk found 20kb of bad sectors if I remember right. Now the issue I get is when I log into my profile which was saved right, I get a blank light blue wallpaper (non-license) explorer.exe is not running, and there are only 4 processes running in taskmanager, including taskmanager. I would try a repair install but CRTL-E would not open, nothing will open once I force start explorer.exe, almost like all services are down. What should I do? Fresh install is almost not a possibility I will try and fix this issue. sfc /scannow /offbootdir=c:\ /offwindir=c:\windows returns "Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation"

  • Multiple computers with a standard iPhone developer program

    I have enrolled on the standard iPhone Developer Program and I've successfully created a provisioning profile for my iMac. But I also have a MacBook Pro that I use to work while I'm traveling. But with the standard iPhone Developer Program there seems to be no way to have 2 computers to work, unless I spend time revoking and re-creating/re-validating certification authorities when switching machines. Am I right? Or is there some way to use the same CA across multiple machines?

    i installed and setup all the certificates, provisions , etc. and selected the did what was needed in the project edit page. i have the device in the usb and once i build i get this error. The iPhone “myname” doesn’t have the provisioning profile with which the application was signed. i have tried everything, read tutorials and what i can to get this to work. what are some things i can try that you have? tahnks

    I have a mac and a macbook, and one iPhone device and want to develop on both systems. My enrollment type is individual. How am I able to install the developer certificate and provisioning profiles on both machines? On the macbook it says 'a valid signing identity matching this profile could not be found in your keychain'. In my keychain I have a 'green status' for my developer certificate and in the xcode organizer for my device as well.

  • Is there any way to enable the HiDef graphics profile property on a Silverlight 5 3d Web App?

    I have an XNA Windows Game that uses the HiDef profile to load complex fbx and obj files. Trying to move it over to a Silverlight 3d Web App, Silverlight seems to only want to use the Reach profile, and I get an error that the Reach profile does not support a sufficient number of primitive draws per call. Is there any way to change to HiDef in Silverlight 5? It is not in the project properties and attempting to change it in mainpage.xaml.cs only gives me the option of setting it to Reach.

  • Should I embed the sRGB color profile in JPEG files?

    I have a large (growing) collection of scanned images. They are TIFF files, mostly 48 bit with the Adobe RGB color space. This color profile is integrated in the files. When such a file is opened in IrfanView (with plugins), it says (Image - Information) Adobe RGB 1998. "Normal images", like the JPG files from a digital camera, do not (necessarily) have a color profile integrated in the file. I understand that it's necessary to include the Adobe RGB profile in an image file which uses the Adobe RGB space, so the color values can be interpreted correctly. Here's a test image with a completely different color profile, programs that ignore the included profile (like MSIE8 or Gwenview) will render it as sRGB (?): I'm planning to convert my TIF files to JPG, so I'm wondering if there's anything wrong with using IrfanView that would save them as sRGB without embedding the sRGB profile. I've heard that images should always be saved with the color profile included. Since every image seems to be interpreted as sRGB by default (by software without color management), I don't understand why the sRGB profile should be included?

  • Javascript not showing up on Facebook Application's Profile Tab

    Hi, This may sound very noobish but I have tried to read the forum posts and docs on javascript behavior on Facebook's profile tabs. I understand that profile tabs don't support referencing external javascript but even my inline tags are not showing up on profile pages. In fact I am trying the fbjs-swf bridge and the code needed to instantiate the swf does not show up on the page <fb:fbjs_bridge/> <div id="swfContainer"></div> <script> var swf = document.createElement('fb:swf'); swf.setId('my_swf_id'); swf.setWidth('630'); swf.setHeight('520'); swf.setSWFSrc('http://www.muziboo.com/swf/player4-2.swf'); document.getElementById('swfContainer').appendChild(swf); document.getElementById('my_swf_id').callSWF('asMethod', 'one', 'two'); </script> I see a swf embedded (the one for the fbjs bridge) but I don't see any script tag containing the above javascript code.   • Loading Facebook fb:profile-pic via AJAX in Facebook Connect site

    After a page loads, I'm making an AJAX request to pull down an HTML chunk that contains tags representing a Facebook user profile picture. I append the result to a point in the DOM but the logos don't load, instead all I see is the default silhouette.     (I'm talking about the shell Fish, esp. Fish's Fish.) For Bash/ZSH, I had ~/.profile with some exports, aliases and other stuff. I don't want to have a separate config for environment variables for Fish, I want to re-use my ~/.profile. How? In The FAQ, it is stated that I can at least import those via /usr/local/share/fish/tools/import_bash_settings.py, however I don't really like running that for each Fish-instance.

  • How do I speed up load times on roaming profiles with Active Directory?

    I've done some reading and apparently the main obstacle to fast remote profile syncing is that Samba takes a long time to transfer lots of little files like cookies. After reading Roaming Profiles: Best Practices , I plan to use Folder Redirection, but I want my users to be able to login as rapidly as possible, even if it means that their data is still coming in when they reach their desktop. Is there a way to do this with GPO or a third party add-on that can load user profile data faster/speed up the login process for users?

  • Why can't “knife data bag from file” find existing json file on chef server?

    Summary: I'm running into a problem with "knife data bag from file", where knife doesn't recognize the .json data bag file pulled down from a remote git repo. Background: I'm currently trying to transition from chef-solo use to chef server while using the cookbooks, data bags and other chef info from our remote git repo. I've currently pulled down a copy of our git repo and set the cookbook path and data bag path in knife.rb. I also loaded the cookbooks, made adjustments, etc. Details: When trying to load our .json data bags by doing "knife data bag add from file FOLDER FILE" it looks like it worked until I do "knife data bag list" and it comes up blank. So I decided to try adding the edit option at the end to see what's being loaded, if it is. This is the error I get: knife data bag from file local_settings test.json -e nano ERROR: Could not find or open file 'test.json' in current directory or in 'data_bags/local_settings/test.json' The data bag file does exist, in the proper location, in a tested, working json file. I've also sometimes gotten an error saying "could not open data bag "local_settings". I would obviously like to keep the data bag path within the appropriate git repo folder to be able to keep track of changes in a more centralized location (our git repo, as opposed to the chef server). Any solutions, advice or pointers in the right direction are appreciated.

    I've searched around but i'm having no luck with some peculiar behavior with a flash archive. I'm using HP Server Automation 9.14 to deploy the OS. I'm creating a Solaris 10 flash archive to create a snapshot default build in our environment. I create the flash archive with # flar create -c -S -n g8-solaris10-u10 g8-solaris10-u10.flar It seems to create the file without any problems (exit status 0). When deploying to a new system (same hardware), it extracts to a point and then bails. The last error in the log I can see is Extracted 2047.00 MB ( 82% of 2488.98 MB archive) ERROR: Could not read file (172.27.118.100:/media/opsware/sunos/flar/g8-solaris10-u10.flar ERROR: Errors occurred during the extraction of flash archive. The file /tmp/flash_errors contains the list of errors encountered ERROR: Could not extract Flash archive ERROR: Flash installation failed The error log contained the following message cannot receive new filesystem stream: invalid backup stream A previous version of this flash archive (1.8gb) worked ok, so I suspect size may be a factor. The source system (the one the flash archive is an image of) is an HP BL460C GEN8 some more info below.   • Authenticating Active Directory Users to Mac OS X Mavericks Server L2TP VPN Service

    We have a Windows Server 2012 Active Directory Infrastructure that consists of two domain controllers. Bound to the Active Directory Domain is a Mac OS X Mavericks Server 10.9.3. The server runs Profile Manager and VPN Services. My Active Directory users are able to authenticate to the Profile Manager, but not the VPN. I have found several threads on other forums of other users reporting similar issues, here is just one of many references: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5174619 It appears as though the issue is related to a CHAP authentication failure. Can anyone suggest what next troubleshooting steps I might take? Is there a way to liberalize the authentication mechanism to include MSCHAP? Here is an excerpt of the transaction from the logs.     i created a distribution profile of my application,installed and tested it on my iphone and uploaded the binary to app store...due to some usual reasons apple rejected it and asked me to make a few changes...meanwhile i deleted the application from my iphone...now when i reinstall it says valid provisioning profile is not present so will i have to repeat the whole process of making a distribution profile and then upload it to the store...provisional profile cannot change so should i create the new distribution profile with the same one and delete the old distribution profile i made??

    I want to setup chef server as cheaply as possible, while leaving it enough room to run without crashing. The only article I found on the subject warned that RabbitMQ would crash on a micro instance due to insufficient memory. The question is: what's the cheapest EC2 instance that can run chef server reliably, considering that I don't use CouchDB or RabbitMQ for anything else in my app, so would probably have to set them up exclusively for chef server on that same instance.

  • Kickstart: Serve dynamic kickstart images via a CGI or PHP script?

    I'd like to kickstart a couple dozen RHEL6/SL6 servers. However, some of these servers are different and I don't want to create a new ks.cfg file for each class of server. Are there any products which can generate a Kickstart file dynamically on the fly, from a template? For example, if I append a line like this to the KERNEL: APPEND ks=http://192.168.1.100/cgi-bin/ks.cgi Then the script ks.cgi can determine what host this is (Via the MAC address), and print out Kickstart options which are appropriate for that host. I could optionally override some options by passing parameters to the script, like this: APPEND ks=http://192.168.1.100/cgi-bin/ks.cgi?NODETYPE=production&IP=192.168.2.80 After we kickstart the server, we activate Cfengine/Puppet on this system and manage the system using our favorite Configuration Management product. We're experimenting with xCAT but it is proving too cumbersome. I've looked into Cobbler, but I'm not sure it does this. Update: A roll-your-own solution is discussed in the O'Reilly book: Managing RPM-Based Systems with Kickstart and Yum, Chapter 3. Customizing Your Kickstart Install Dynamic ks.cfg, which echos some of the comments in this thread: To implement such a tool is beyond the scope of this Short Cut, but I can walk through the high-level design. Any such solution would mix a data store (the things that change) with a templating solution (the things that don’t change). The data store would hold the per-machine data, such as the IP address and hostname. You would also need a unique identifier, perhaps the hostname, such that you could pick up a given machine’s data. The data store could be a flat file, XML data, or a relational database such as PostgreSQL or MySQL. In turn, to invoke the system, you pass a machine’s unique identifier as a URL parameter. For example: boot: linux ks=http://your.kickstart.server/gen_config?host-server25 In this example, the CGI (or servlet, or whatever) generates a ks.cfg for the machine server25. But where, oh where, is the code for ks.cgi?

  • Remotely Installing Windows 2008 on SunBlade 6000/6250... any gotchas?

    I'm preparing to remotely install Windows 2008 Standard onto a 6250 blade module mounted in a SunBlade 6000 chassis rack. Are there any gotchas (aside from the predictable issues related to bandwidth in transferring the ISO, etc.) for this? Has anyone else successfully completed this task? I'm not a hardware guy, I'm a software guy who has been handed this task because the guys in the datacenter don't want to touch it. Any help is appreciated.

  • Migrating Identity Providers - specifying a new users password hash.

    We'd like to switch Identity Provider (and Web Access Manager), and also the user directory we use, but would like to do so without users needing to change their password. We currently have the SSHA of the passwords. I'm expecting to write code to perform the migration. I don't mind how complex the code has to be, rather my concern is whether such a migration is possible at all. MS Active Directory would be our preferred user store, but I believe that it can not have new users set up in it with a particular password hash. Is that correct? What user directory stores can be populated with users already set up with a SSHA password? What Identity Provider and Access Management products work with those stores?

    Are there some ways field-tested ways to keep a kind of logbook for a server? Including: software installations (and de-installations) custom configurations (e.g. of a webserver, ssh daemon, etc.) personal notes The big picture. I am preparing a server and would like to extensively document the state and how it was established over time, so that a new person can easily see, what's going on and why. The setup is not too complicated, but I would like to do it anyway. I once used something like Maintain /etc with mercurial on Debian and it was nice, but I am looking for a little more flexible solution. Addendum: So I am interested in logging and documentation first. In an ideal world however, I would like to have a command, which in a few steps would take me from a bare newly installed unix system to a functional environment with all the components setup and in place by the means of, say an 'executable' log. But that would be very ideal, I imagine.

  • Firefox 29 - how do I delete history entries visited fewer than x times

    Context: I've been using my Firefox profile for a couple of years now. My history file has become huge, naturally. I got Firefox Sync set up between my main desktop PC and my laptop. HW configs: PC: i5-3450, 8 GB DDR3 RAM, Crucial M4 128 GB SSD laptop: Pentium SU4100, 4 GB DDR3 RAM, WD 5400 rpm HDD Accessing history entries when typing into the Awesome Bar on my desktop takes quite a long time despite the decent config, the laptop is even slower. The experience is quite unresponsive. I figured if I cleared the history up a little bit, I might avoid creating a new profile to speed things up. The question itself: to illustrate: Is there a way to delete all history entries that have been visited fewer than x (let's say 5) times and at the same time the recent visit is fewer than y (let's say 120) days old? afaik the history file is some kind of SQL database, but I'm not really sure how the data is saved, if there's a "safe way" to edit it and what the query to do what I need would look like. Thanks in advance for any help. I kept browsing through previous SuperUser questions to see if I could find relevant information. "In my Firefox profile directory, there is a filed named places.sqlite. Opening it with sqlite reveals (amongst others) the tables moz_places and moz_historyvisits. It seems that moz_historyvisits uses the primary of moz_places to refer to the URLs." As I'm unfamiliar with databases, I don't really understand the way the two tables mentioned in the quote are related. screenshot of a part of the tables I've noticed the visit_count is in a standard format, making it easy to work with. The last_visit_date looks encrypted to my naked eye, but I can't see in which way. Hope that helps, I'm at my wits' end.

  • Office 2010 OCT Outlook Filepaths

    I'm playing around with customizing Office 2010 installs on my network, normally I just do a full manual install, but as the environment grows and the lazier I get its becoming a pain to do it manually every time. I've read up and downloaded the Office 2010 OCT tool and it looks relatively straight forward - with one exception - the Outlook Profile. I can 'get around it' by just leaving it all as default (or not enabling offline use) but I'd like to customise it slightly so that its all setup no matter who logs onto the PC. The only issue I have, and my question is: In the OCT - Outlook section What do you enter into the Path and Filename for the OST file and the Offline Address book seetings under Enable Offline Use section? I'm sweet with everything else - just that one section, and I think if I bugger that one it will kill the whole Outlook Profile?? It would need to go into each users unique filepath for their profile correct? I have a fair idea of what should be there but I'm struggling with the correct syntax. I know this is a stupid question....but its late in the day and my brain is fried ;) As usual - any and all help/assistance is appreciated ;)
