  • MXMLC Ant task results in java.lang.OutOFMemoryError

    - by Mims H. Wright
I'm making a change to a set of code for a Flex project that I didn't write and was set up to compile using ant tasks. I assume that the codebase was stable at the last checkin but I'm running into memory issues when trying to build a project using MXMLC and ant (see stack trace below). Before, I was just getting an out of memory error. I tried using a different machine and got this more verbose exception (including problems with the image fetcher). I've tried using various versions of the SDK, I've tried replacing the <mxmlc> tag with <exec executable="mxmlc"> with no luck. Here is my java version in case that has anything to do with it: » java -version java version "1.6.0_20" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_20-b02-279-10M3065) Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 16.3-b01-279, mixed mode) Any help would be appreciated. • HP-UX: libstd_v2 in stack trace of JNI code compiled with g++

Hello, uname -mr: B.11.23 ia64 g++ --version: g++ (GCC) 4.4.0 java -version: Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0.06-jinteg_20_jan_2010_05_50-b00) Java HotSpot(TM) Server VM (build 14.3-b01-jre1.6.0.06-rc1, mixed mode) I'm trying to run a Java application that uses JNI. The crash happens in the following code, when method str() returns: class JniString { std::string m_utf8; public: JniString(JNIEnv* env, jstring instance) { const char* utf8Chars = env-GetStringUTFChars(instance, 0); if (utf8Chars == 0) { env-ExceptionClear(); // RPF throw std::runtime_error("GetStringUTFChars returned 0"); } m_utf8.assign(utf8Chars); env-ReleaseStringUTFChars(instance, utf8Chars); } std::string str() const { return m_utf8; } }; Simultaneous usage of the two C++ implementations could likely be a reason for the crash, but that should not be happening. Any ideas?

  • Neo4j increasing latency as SKIP increases on Cypher query + REST API

    - by voldomazta
My setup: Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_45-b18) Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 24.45-b08, mixed mode) Neo4j 2.0.0-M06 Enterprise First I made sure I warmed up the cache by executing the following: START n=node(*) RETURN COUNT(n); START r=relationship(*) RETURN count(r); The size of the table is 63,677 nodes and 7,169,995 relationships Now I have the following query: START u1=node:node_auto_index('uid:39') MATCH (u1:user)-[w:WANTS]->(c:card)<-[h:HAS]-(u2:user) WHERE u2.uid <> 39 WITH u2.uid AS uid, (CASE WHEN w.qty < h.qty THEN w.qty ELSE h.qty END) AS have RETURN uid, SUM(have) AS total ORDER BY total DESC SKIP 0 LIMIT 25 This UID has about 40k+ results that I want to be able to put a pagination to. The initial skip was around 773ms. I tried page 2 (skip 25) and the latency was around the same even up to page 500 it only rose up to 900ms so I didn't really bother. Now I tried some fast forward paging and jumped by thousands so I did 1000, then 2000, then 3000. I was hoping the ORDER BY arrangement will already have been cached by Neo4j and using SKIP will just move to that index in the result and wont have to iterate through each one again. But for each thousand skip I made the latency increased by alot. It's not just cache warming because for one I already warmed up the cache and two, I tried the same skip a couple of times for each skip and it yielded the same results: SKIP 0: 773ms SKIP 1000: 1369ms SKIP 2000: 2491ms SKIP 3000: 3899ms SKIP 4000: 5686ms SKIP 5000: 7424ms Now who the hell would want to view 5000 pages of results? 40k even?! :) Good point! I will probably put a cap on the maximum results a user can view but I was just curious about this phenomenon. Will somebody please explain why Neo4j seems to be re-iterating through stuff which appears to be already known to it? Here is my profiling for the 0 skip: ==> ColumnFilter(symKeys=["uid", " INTERNAL_AGGREGATE65c4d6a2-1930-4f32-8fd9-5e4399ce6f14"], returnItemNames=["uid", "total"], _rows=25, _db_hits=0) ==> Slice(skip="Literal(0)", _rows=25, _db_hits=0) ==> Top(orderBy=["SortItem(Cached( INTERNAL_AGGREGATE65c4d6a2-1930-4f32-8fd9-5e4399ce6f14 of type Any),false)"], limit="Add(Literal(0),Literal(25))", _rows=25, _db_hits=0) ==> EagerAggregation(keys=["uid"], aggregates=["( INTERNAL_AGGREGATE65c4d6a2-1930-4f32-8fd9-5e4399ce6f14,Sum(have))"], _rows=41659, _db_hits=0) ==> ColumnFilter(symKeys=["have", "u1", "uid", "c", "h", "w", "u2"], returnItemNames=["uid", "have"], _rows=146826, _db_hits=0) ==> Extract(symKeys=["u1", "c", "h", "w", "u2"], exprKeys=["uid", "have"], _rows=146826, _db_hits=587304) ==> Filter(pred="((NOT(Product(u2,uid(0),true) == Literal(39)) AND hasLabel(u1:user(0))) AND hasLabel(u2:user(0)))", _rows=146826, _db_hits=146826) ==> TraversalMatcher(trail="(u1)-[w:WANTS WHERE (hasLabel(NodeIdentifier():card(1)) AND hasLabel(NodeIdentifier():card(1))) AND true]->(c)<-[h:HAS WHERE (NOT(Product(NodeIdentifier(),uid(0),true) == Literal(39)) AND hasLabel(NodeIdentifier():user(0))) AND true]-(u2)", _rows=146826, _db_hits=293696) And for the 5000 skip: ==> ColumnFilter(symKeys=["uid", " INTERNAL_AGGREGATE99329ea5-03cd-4d53-a6bc-3ad554b47872"], returnItemNames=["uid", "total"], _rows=25, _db_hits=0) ==> Slice(skip="Literal(5000)", _rows=25, _db_hits=0) ==> Top(orderBy=["SortItem(Cached( INTERNAL_AGGREGATE99329ea5-03cd-4d53-a6bc-3ad554b47872 of type Any),false)"], limit="Add(Literal(5000),Literal(25))", _rows=5025, _db_hits=0) ==> EagerAggregation(keys=["uid"], aggregates=["( INTERNAL_AGGREGATE99329ea5-03cd-4d53-a6bc-3ad554b47872,Sum(have))"], _rows=41659, _db_hits=0) ==> ColumnFilter(symKeys=["have", "u1", "uid", "c", "h", "w", "u2"], returnItemNames=["uid", "have"], _rows=146826, _db_hits=0) ==> Extract(symKeys=["u1", "c", "h", "w", "u2"], exprKeys=["uid", "have"], _rows=146826, _db_hits=587304) ==> Filter(pred="((NOT(Product(u2,uid(0),true) == Literal(39)) AND hasLabel(u1:user(0))) AND hasLabel(u2:user(0)))", _rows=146826, _db_hits=146826) ==> TraversalMatcher(trail="(u1)-[w:WANTS WHERE (hasLabel(NodeIdentifier():card(1)) AND hasLabel(NodeIdentifier():card(1))) AND true]->(c)<-[h:HAS WHERE (NOT(Product(NodeIdentifier(),uid(0),true) == Literal(39)) AND hasLabel(NodeIdentifier():user(0))) AND true]-(u2)", _rows=146826, _db_hits=293696) The only difference is the LIMIT clause on the Top function. I hope we can make this work as intended, I really don't want to delve into doing an embedded Neo4j + my own Jetty REST API for the web app.

  • Using Comparable to compare objects and sorting them in a TreeMap

    - by arjacsoh
    II cannot understand how should the natural ordering of class be "consistent with equals" when implementing the Comparable interface. I deteted a flaw in my program and therefore I deteced that in the documentantion of the interface Comparable. My problem is that although two Objects are considered as distinct on the base of equals method, the TreeMap structure treats them as equal and consequently does not accept the second insert. The sample code is: public class Car implements Comparable<Car> { int weight; String name; public Car(int w, String n) { weight=w; name=n; } public boolean equals(Object o){ if(o instanceof Car){ Car d = (Car)o; return ((d.name.equals(name)) && (d.weight==weight)); } return false; } public int hashCode(){ return weight/2 + 17; } public String toString(){ return "I am " +name+ " !!!"; } public int compareTo(Car d){ if(this.weight>d.weight) return 1; else if(this.weight<d.weight) return -1; else return 0; } /*public int compareTo(Car d){ return this.name.compareTo(d.name); }*/ } public static void main(String[] args) { Car d1 = new Car(100, "a"); Car d2 = new Car(110, "b"); Car d3 = new Car(110, "c"); Car d4 = new Car(100, "a"); Map<Car, Integer> m = new HashMap<Car, Integer>(); m.put(d1, 1); m.put(d2, 2); m.put(d3, 3); m.put(d4, 16); for(Map.Entry<Car, Integer> me : m.entrySet()) System.out.println(me.getKey().toString() + " " +me.getValue()); TreeMap<Car, Integer> tm = new TreeMap<Car, Integer>(m); System.out.println("After Sorting: "); for(Map.Entry<Car, Integer> me : tm.entrySet()) System.out.println(me.getKey().toString() + " " +me.getValue()); } The output is : I am a !!! 16 I am c !!! 3 I am b !!! 2 After Sorting: I am a !!! 16 I am c !!! 2 That is, that the object c has replaced (somewhat) object b. If I comment the original equals method and uncomment the second equals method, which compares the objects according name, the output is the expected: I am a !!! 16 I am c !!! 3 I am b !!! 2 After Sorting: I am a !!! 16 I am b !!! 2 I am c !!! 3 Why does it come around in this way and what should I alter in order to insert and sort different objects with some attributes of equal value in a TreeMap?

  • Getting text position while parsing pdf with Quartz 2D

    - by Koteg
    Hi guys, another question regarding pdf parsing... Just read PDF Reference version 1.7 "5.3.1 Text-Positioning Operators" and I am a little bit confused. I wrote some code to get transformation matrix and initial text position. CGPDFOperatorTableSetCallback (table, "MP", &op_MP);//Define marked-content point CGPDFOperatorTableSetCallback (table, "DP", &op_DP);//Define marked-content point with property list CGPDFOperatorTableSetCallback (table, "BMC", &op_BMC);//Begin marked-content sequence CGPDFOperatorTableSetCallback (table, "BDC", &op_BDC);//Begin marked-content sequence with property list CGPDFOperatorTableSetCallback (table, "EMC", &op_EMC);//End marked-content sequence //Text State operators CGPDFOperatorTableSetCallback(table, "Tc", &op_Tc); CGPDFOperatorTableSetCallback(table, "Tw", &op_Tw); CGPDFOperatorTableSetCallback(table, "Tz", &op_Tz); CGPDFOperatorTableSetCallback(table, "TL", &op_TL); CGPDFOperatorTableSetCallback(table, "Tf", &op_Tf); CGPDFOperatorTableSetCallback(table, "Tr", &op_Tr); CGPDFOperatorTableSetCallback(table, "Ts", &op_Ts); //text showing operators CGPDFOperatorTableSetCallback(table, "TJ", &op_TJ); CGPDFOperatorTableSetCallback(table, "Tj", &op_Tj); CGPDFOperatorTableSetCallback(table, "'", &op_apostrof); CGPDFOperatorTableSetCallback(table, "\"", &op_double_apostrof); //text positioning operators CGPDFOperatorTableSetCallback(table, "Td", &op_Td); CGPDFOperatorTableSetCallback(table, "TD", &op_TD); CGPDFOperatorTableSetCallback(table, "Tm", &op_Tm); CGPDFOperatorTableSetCallback(table, "T*", &op_T); //text object operators CGPDFOperatorTableSetCallback(table, "BT", &op_BT);//Begin text object CGPDFOperatorTableSetCallback(table, "ET", &op_ET);//End text object So this is the output after application lunch: 2010-09-02 15:09:23.041 testSearch[8251:207] op_BT begin Integer value: 0 2010-09-02 15:09:23.043 testSearch[8251:207] op_BT end 2010-09-02 15:09:23.043 testSearch[8251:207] op_Tf begin Integer value: 1 2010-09-02 15:09:23.044 testSearch[8251:207] op_Tf end 2010-09-02 15:09:23.044 testSearch[8251:207] op_Tm begin Float value: 557.364197 2010-09-02 15:09:23.045 testSearch[8251:207] op_Tm end 2010-09-02 15:09:23.045 testSearch[8251:207] op_TJ begin 2010-09-02 15:09:23.046 testSearch[8251:207] Array string value [0]: F 2010-09-02 15:09:23.046 testSearch[8251:207] Array integer value [1]: 94985208 2010-09-02 15:09:23.047 testSearch[8251:207] Array string value [2]: r 2010-09-02 15:09:23.047 testSearch[8251:207] Array integer value [3]: 94985208 2010-09-02 15:09:23.048 testSearch[8251:207] Array string value [4]: o 2010-09-02 15:09:23.048 testSearch[8251:207] Array integer value [5]: 94985208 2010-09-02 15:09:23.049 testSearch[8251:207] Array string value [6]: m s 2010-09-02 15:09:23.049 testSearch[8251:207] Array integer value [7]: 94985208 2010-09-02 15:09:23.049 testSearch[8251:207] Array string value [8]: a 2010-09-02 15:09:23.050 testSearch[8251:207] Array integer value [9]: 94985208 2010-09-02 15:09:23.050 testSearch[8251:207] Array string value [10]: m 2010-09-02 15:09:23.051 testSearch[8251:207] Array integer value [11]: 94985208 2010-09-02 15:09:23.051 testSearch[8251:207] Array string value [12]: p 2010-09-02 15:09:23.052 testSearch[8251:207] Array integer value [13]: 94985208 2010-09-02 15:09:23.053 testSearch[8251:207] Array string value [14]: l 2010-09-02 15:09:23.054 testSearch[8251:207] Array integer value [15]: 94985208 2010-09-02 15:09:23.055 testSearch[8251:207] Array string value [16]: e t 2010-09-02 15:09:23.055 testSearch[8251:207] Array integer value [17]: 94985208 2010-09-02 15:09:23.057 testSearch[8251:207] Array string value [18]: o r 2010-09-02 15:09:23.057 testSearch[8251:207] Array integer value [19]: 94985208 2010-09-02 15:09:23.058 testSearch[8251:207] Array string value [20]: e 2010-09-02 15:09:23.058 testSearch[8251:207] Array integer value [21]: 94985208 2010-09-02 15:09:23.059 testSearch[8251:207] Array string value [22]: s 2010-09-02 15:09:23.059 testSearch[8251:207] Array integer value [23]: 94985208 2010-09-02 15:09:23.060 testSearch[8251:207] Array string value [24]: u 2010-09-02 15:09:23.061 testSearch[8251:207] Array integer value [25]: 94985208 2010-09-02 15:09:23.061 testSearch[8251:207] Array string value [26]: l 2010-09-02 15:09:23.062 testSearch[8251:207] Array integer value [27]: 94985208 2010-09-02 15:09:23.062 testSearch[8251:207] Array string value [28]: t 2010-09-02 15:09:23.063 testSearch[8251:207] op_TJ end If someone is familiar with text matrix and text positioning operators it would be nice to explain how all those thing work. • Java fatal error, don't know what it means

    - by Thomas King
It happens at the same place in my code (albeit not the first time the method is executed) but I can't make head or tail of what is wrong. (Doubly so as it's code for a robot). Be most appreciative if someone can give me an idea of what kind of problem it is. I assume it's to do with threading (multi-threaded app) but I don't really know what?!? Worried as deadline for uni project is looming!!! • How to use Crtl in a Delphi unit in a C++Builder project? (or link to C++Builder C runtime library)

    - by Craig Peterson
I have a Delphi unit that is statically linking a C .obj file using the {$L xxx} directive. The C file is compiled with C++Builder's command line compiler. To satisfy the C file's runtime library dependencies (_assert, memmove, etc), I'm including the crtl unit Allen Bauer mentioned here. unit FooWrapper; interface implementation uses Crtl; // Part of the Delphi RTL {$L FooLib.obj} // Compiled with "bcc32 -q -c foolib.c" procedure Foo; cdecl; external; end. If I compile that unit in a Delphi project (.dproj) everthing works correctly. If I compile that unit in a C++Builder project (.cbproj) it fails with the error: [ILINK32 Error] Fatal: Unable to open file 'CRTL.OBJ' And indeed, there isn't a crtl.obj file in the RAD Studio install folder. There is a .dcu, but no .pas. Trying to add crtdbg to the uses clause (the C header where _assert is defined) gives an error that it can't find crtdbg.dcu. If I remove the uses clause, it instead fails with errors that __assert and _memmove aren't found. So, in a Delphi unit in a C++Builder project, how can I export functions from the C runtime library so they're available for linking? I'm already aware of Rudy Velthuis's article. I'd like to avoid manually writing Delphi wrappers if possible, since I don't need them in Delphi, and C++Builder must already include the necessary functions. Edit For anyone who wants to play along at home, the code is available in Abbrevia's Subversion repository at https://tpabbrevia.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/tpabbrevia/trunk. I've taken David Heffernan's advice and added a "AbCrtl.pas" unit that mimics crtl.dcu when compiled in C++Builder. That got the PPMd support working, but the Lzma and WavPack libraries both fail with link errors: [ILINK32 Error] Error: Unresolved external '_beginthreadex' referenced from ABLZMA.OBJ [ILINK32 Error] Error: Unresolved external 'sprintf' referenced from ABWAVPACK.OBJ [ILINK32 Error] Error: Unresolved external 'strncmp' referenced from ABWAVPACK.OBJ [ILINK32 Error] Error: Unresolved external '_ftol' referenced from ABWAVPACK.OBJ AFAICT, all of them are declared correctly, and the _beginthreadex one is actually declared in AbLzma.pas, so it's used by the pure Delphi compile as well. To see it yourself, just download the trunk (or just the "source" and "packages" directories), disable the {$IFDEF BCB} block at the bottom of AbDefine.inc, and try to compile the C++Builder "Abbrevia.cbproj" project.

  • How to Run Low-Cost Minecraft on a Raspberry Pi for Block Building on the Cheap

    - by Jason Fitzpatrick
We’ve shown you how to run your own blocktastic personal Minecraft server on a Windows/OSX box, but what if you crave something lighter weight, more energy efficient, and always ready for your friends? Read on as we turn a tiny Raspberry Pi machine into a low-cost Minecraft server you can leave on 24/7 for around a penny a day. Why Do I Want to Do This? There’s two aspects to this tutorial, running your own Minecraft server and specifically running that Minecraft server on a Raspberry Pi. Why would you want to run your own Minecraft server? It’s a really great way to extend and build upon the Minecraft play experience. You can leave the server running when you’re not playing so friends and family can join and continue building your world. You can mess around with game variables and introduce mods in a way that isn’t possible when you’re playing the stand-alone game. It also gives you the kind of control over your multiplayer experience that using public servers doesn’t, without incurring the cost of hosting a private server on a remote host. While running a Minecraft server on its own is appealing enough to a dedicated Minecraft fan, running it on the Raspberry Pi is even more appealing. The tiny little Pi uses so little resources that you can leave your Minecraft server running 24/7 for a couple bucks a year. Aside from the initial cost outlay of the Pi, an SD card, and a little bit of time setting it up, you’ll have an always-on Minecraft server at a monthly cost of around one gumball. What Do I Need? For this tutorial you’ll need a mix of hardware and software tools; aside from the actual Raspberry Pi and SD card, everything is free. 1 Raspberry Pi (preferably a 512MB model) 1 4GB+ SD card This tutorial assumes that you have already familiarized yourself with the Raspberry Pi and have installed a copy of the Debian-derivative Raspbian on the device. If you have not got your Pi up and running yet, don’t worry! Check out our guide, The HTG Guide to Getting Started with Raspberry Pi, to get up to speed. Optimizing Raspbian for the Minecraft Server Unlike other builds we’ve shared where you can layer multiple projects over one another (e.g. the Pi is more than powerful enough to serve as a weather/email indicator and a Google Cloud Print server at the same time) running a Minecraft server is a pretty intense operation for the little Pi and we’d strongly recommend dedicating the entire Pi to the process. Minecraft seems like a simple game, with all its blocky-ness and what not, but it’s actually a pretty complex game beneath the simple skin and required a lot of processing power. As such, we’re going to tweak the configuration file and other settings to optimize Rasbian for the job. The first thing you’ll need to do is dig into the Raspi-Config application to make a few minor changes. If you’re installing Raspbian fresh, wait for the last step (which is the Raspi-Config), if you already installed it, head to the terminal and type in “sudo raspi-config” to launch it again. One of the first and most important things we need to attend to is cranking up the overclock setting. We need all the power we can get to make our Minecraft experience enjoyable. In Raspi-Config, select option number 7 “Overclock”. Be prepared for some stern warnings about overclocking, but rest easy knowing that overclocking is directly supported by the Raspberry Pi foundation and has been included in the configuration options since late 2012. Once you’re in the actual selection screen, select “Turbo 1000MhHz”. Again, you’ll be warned that the degree of overclocking you’ve selected carries risks (specifically, potential corruption of the SD card, but no risk of actual hardware damage). Click OK and wait for the device to reset. Next, make sure you’re set to boot to the command prompt, not the desktop. Select number 3 “Enable Boot to Desktop/Scratch”  and make sure “Console Text console” is selected. Back at the Raspi-Config menu, select number 8 “Advanced Options’. There are two critical changes we need to make in here and one option change. First, the critical changes. Select A3 “Memory Split”: Change the amount of memory available to the GPU to 16MB (down from the default 64MB). Our Minecraft server is going to ruin in a GUI-less environment; there’s no reason to allocate any more than the bare minimum to the GPU. After selecting the GPU memory, you’ll be returned to the main menu. Select “Advanced Options” again and then select A4 “SSH”. Within the sub-menu, enable SSH. There is very little reason to keep this Pi connected to a monitor and keyboard, by enabling SSH we can remotely access the machine from anywhere on the network. Finally (and optionally) return again to the “Advanced Options” menu and select A2 “Hostname”. Here you can change your hostname from “raspberrypi” to a more fitting Minecraft name. We opted for the highly creative hostname “minecraft”, but feel free to spice it up a bit with whatever you feel like: creepertown, minecraft4life, or miner-box are all great minecraft server names. That’s it for the Raspbian configuration tab down to the bottom of the main screen and select “Finish” to reboot. After rebooting you can now SSH into your terminal, or continue working from the keyboard hooked up to your Pi (we strongly recommend switching over to SSH as it allows you to easily cut and paste the commands). If you’ve never used SSH before, check out how to use PuTTY with your Pi here. Installing Java on the Pi The Minecraft server runs on Java, so the first thing we need to do on our freshly configured Pi is install it. Log into your Pi via SSH and then, at the command prompt, enter the following command to make a directory for the installation: sudo mkdir /java/ Now we need to download the newest version of Java. At the time of this publication the newest release is the OCT 2013 update and the link/filename we use will reflect that. Please check for a more current version of the Linux ARMv6/7 Java release on the Java download page and update the link/filename accordingly when following our instructions. At the command prompt, enter the following command: sudo wget --no-check-certificate http://www.java.net/download/jdk8/archive/b111/binaries/jdk-8-ea-b111-linux-arm-vfp-hflt-09_oct_2013.tar.gz Once the download has finished successfully, enter the following command: sudo tar zxvf jdk-8-ea-b111-linux-arm-vfp-hflt-09_oct_2013.tar.gz -C /opt/ Fun fact: the /opt/ directory name scheme is a remnant of early Unix design wherein the /opt/ directory was for “optional” software installed after the main operating system; it was the /Program Files/ of the Unix world. After the file has finished extracting, enter: sudo /opt/jdk1.8.0/bin/java -version This command will return the version number of your new Java installation like so: java version "1.8.0-ea" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0-ea-b111) Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 25.0-b53, mixed mode) If you don’t see the above printout (or a variation thereof if you’re using a newer version of Java), try to extract the archive again. If you do see the readout, enter the following command to tidy up after yourself: sudo rm jdk-8-ea-b111-linux-arm-vfp-hflt-09_oct_2013.tar.gz At this point Java is installed and we’re ready to move onto installing our Minecraft server! Installing and Configuring the Minecraft Server Now that we have a foundation for our Minecraft server, it’s time to install the part that matter. We’ll be using SpigotMC a lightweight and stable Minecraft server build that works wonderfully on the Pi. First, grab a copy of the the code with the following command: sudo wget http://ci.md-5.net/job/Spigot/lastSuccessfulBuild/artifact/Spigot-Server/target/spigot.jar This link should remain stable over time, as it points directly to the most current stable release of Spigot, but if you have any issues you can always reference the SpigotMC download page here. After the download finishes successfully, enter the following command: sudo /opt/jdk1.8.0/bin/java -Xms256M -Xmx496M -jar /home/pi/spigot.jar nogui Note: if you’re running the command on a 256MB Pi change the 256 and 496 in the above command to 128 and 256, respectively. Your server will launch and a flurry of on-screen activity will follow. Be prepared to wait around 3-6 minutes or so for the process of setting up the server and generating the map to finish. Future startups will take much less time, around 20-30 seconds. Note: If at any point during the configuration or play process things get really weird (e.g. your new Minecraft server freaks out and starts spawning you in the Nether and killing you instantly), use the “stop” command at the command prompt to gracefully shutdown the server and let you restart and troubleshoot it. After the process has finished, head over to the computer you normally play Minecraft on, fire it up, and click on Multiplayer. You should see your server: If your world doesn’t popup immediately during the network scan, hit the Add button and manually enter the address of your Pi. Once you connect to the server, you’ll see the status change in the server status window: According to the server, we’re in game. According to the actual Minecraft app, we’re also in game but it’s the middle of the night in survival mode: Boo! Spawning in the dead of night, weaponless and without shelter is no way to start things. No worries though, we need to do some more configuration; no time to sit around and get shot at by skeletons. Besides, if you try and play it without some configuration tweaks first, you’ll likely find it quite unstable. We’re just here to confirm the server is up, running, and accepting incoming connections. Once we’ve confirmed the server is running and connectable (albeit not very playable yet), it’s time to shut down the server. Via the server console, enter the command “stop” to shut everything down. When you’re returned to the command prompt, enter the following command: sudo nano server.properties When the configuration file opens up, make the following changes (or just cut and paste our config file minus the first two lines with the name and date stamp): #Minecraft server properties #Thu Oct 17 22:53:51 UTC 2013 generator-settings= #Default is true, toggle to false allow-nether=false level-name=world enable-query=false allow-flight=false server-port=25565 level-type=DEFAULT enable-rcon=false force-gamemode=false level-seed= server-ip= max-build-height=256 spawn-npcs=true white-list=false spawn-animals=true texture-pack= snooper-enabled=true hardcore=false online-mode=true pvp=true difficulty=1 player-idle-timeout=0 gamemode=0 #Default 20; you only need to lower this if you're running #a public server and worried about loads. max-players=20 spawn-monsters=true #Default is 10, 3-5 ideal for Pi view-distance=5 generate-structures=true spawn-protection=16 motd=A Minecraft Server In the server status window, seen through your SSH connection to the pi, enter the following command to give yourself operator status on your Minecraft server (so that you can use more powerful commands in game, without always returning to the server status window). op [your minecraft nickname] At this point things are looking better but we still have a little tweaking to do before the server is really enjoyable. To that end, let’s install some plugins. The first plugin, and the one you should install above all others, is NoSpawnChunks. To install the plugin, first visit the NoSpawnChunks webpage and grab the download link for the most current version. As of this writing the current release is v0.3. Back at the command prompt (the command prompt of your Pi, not the server console–if your server is still active shut it down) enter the following commands: cd /home/pi/plugins sudo wget http://dev.bukkit.org/media/files/586/974/NoSpawnChunks.jar Next, visit the ClearLag plugin page, and grab the latest link (as of this tutorial, it’s v2.6.0). Enter the following at the command prompt: sudo wget http://dev.bukkit.org/media/files/743/213/Clearlag.jar Because the files aren’t compressed in a .ZIP or similar container, that’s all there is to it: the plugins are parked in the plugin directory. (Remember this for future plugin downloads, the file needs to be whateverplugin.jar, so if it’s compressed you need to uncompress it in the plugin directory.) Resart the server: sudo /opt/jdk1.8.0/bin/java -Xms256M -Xmx496M -jar /home/pi/spigot.jar nogui Be prepared for a slightly longer startup time (closer to the 3-6 minutes and much longer than the 30 seconds you just experienced) as the plugins affect the world map and need a minute to massage everything. After the spawn process finishes, type the following at the server console: plugins This lists all the plugins currently active on the server. You should see something like this: If the plugins aren’t loaded, you may need to stop and restart the server. After confirming your plugins are loaded, go ahead and join the game. You should notice significantly snappier play. In addition, you’ll get occasional messages from the plugins indicating they are active, as seen below: At this point Java is installed, the server is installed, and we’ve tweaked our settings for for the Pi.  It’s time to start building with friends!

  • Removing malware of a particular kind

    - by Cyclone
I need to remove some malware from my computer. It is a trojan, and very annoying. It blocks access to Google and search sites. The trojan, with its name spelled out on each line cause it seems to block sites when i reference it in a url, is a r t (some text to mess it up) e m (more text i s First off, what is it, what does it do? Second, why can't I access google or yahoo or any other search sites at all? Third, can it be removed via McAffee? It says it quarantined it when I scanned I found a suspicious process "c"s"r"s"s".exe and it will not let me terminate it, and this is what Mcaffee says it is. Why on earth isn't Mcaffee getting rid of it? I even blocked internet access for this program. Thanks so much, I get kinda freaked out with things like this... • How do I present Prism module views?

    - by Maciek
Heya, I'm writing a prism application, I've just created my 1st module, fired it all up and amazingly - it works. The application is going to grow soon(TM), and I'll be facing the need to host those modules in separate GUI elements. What type of GUI elements would you recommend to host the modules? Is it possible to data-bind a module to some control like a tab-control? How is it done? Is there some kind of a dock manager (similiar to AvalonDock) for Silverlight?

  • How to debug a native Java crash on Linux?

    - by Paul J. Lucas
    I've seen this question and this article on how to debug a native Java crash. The article is with respect to Windows. What are the equivalent debugging aids on Linux? Note: All I have is this crash log from a user in the field. I do not have access to the machine on which the crash occurred. Update: I am pretty sure the crash is due to JNI code we have. I never meant to imply that it was the JVM itself that was faulty. Per request, here is the crash dump (or as much of it as will fit in the 30K stackoverflow limit): # # An unexpected error has been detected by Java Runtime Environment: # # SIGSEGV (0xb) at pc=0x06300e76, pid=9983, tid=4106996592 # # Java VM: Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (1.6.0_03-b05 mixed mode, sharing) # Problematic frame: # V [libjvm.so+0x300e76] # # If you would like to submit a bug report, please visit: # http://java.sun.com/webapps/bugreport/crash.jsp # --------------- T H R E A D --------------- Current thread (0x0922e000): VMThread [id=9985] siginfo:si_signo=11, si_errno=0, si_code=1, si_addr=0x00000008 Registers: EAX=0x00000008, EBX=0x88a829b3, ECX=0x88a829b0, EDX=0xa7d6c1dc ESP=0xf4cbba5c, EBP=0xf4cbba68, ESI=0xa7d6d1d8, EDI=0x00000404 EIP=0x06300e76, CR2=0x00000008, EFLAGS=0x00010202 Top of Stack: (sp=0xf4cbba5c) 0xf4cbba5c: a7d6c1c8 0920cc30 aa0de5c0 f4cbba98 0xf4cbba6c: 063517d7 cf8f2a20 a7d6c1c8 0920cc30 0xf4cbba7c: 0920cc30 00000000 00000000 6d224c40 0xf4cbba8c: 00000001 f4cbbbb0 0920b440 f4cbbab8 0xf4cbba9c: 061dd4df 0920cc30 f4cbbb10 f4cbbac8 0xf4cbbaac: 0633cb7e 0643b5b8 f4492968 f4cbbad8 0xf4cbbabc: 061dcd68 f4cbbaf0 0920cc30 f4cbbaf8 0xf4cbbacc: 061df31e f4cbbb10 d4cbcc2c f4cbbb08 Instructions: (pc=0x06300e76) 0x06300e66: 82 39 f2 73 34 90 8d 74 26 00 8b 02 85 c0 74 22 0x06300e76: 8b 18 80 3d 45 10 42 06 00 74 0c 89 d8 31 c9 83 Stack: [0xf4c3c000,0xf4cbd000), sp=0xf4cbba5c, free space=510k Native frames: (J=compiled Java code, j=interpreted, Vv=VM code, C=native code) V [libjvm.so+0x300e76] V [libjvm.so+0x3517d7] V [libjvm.so+0x1dd4df] V [libjvm.so+0x1dcd68] V [libjvm.so+0x1dc3cc] V [libjvm.so+0x1d4c52] V [libjvm.so+0x1d32cc] V [libjvm.so+0x1d4229] V [libjvm.so+0x1dc82a] V [libjvm.so+0x1d1d34] V [libjvm.so+0x186125] V [libjvm.so+0x1d20bc] V [libjvm.so+0x3b2cbe] V [libjvm.so+0x3c5037] V [libjvm.so+0x3c46bc] V [libjvm.so+0x3c488a] V [libjvm.so+0x3c446f] V [libjvm.so+0x30b719] C [libpthread.so.0+0x5cb2] VM_Operation (0xf2b60728): generation collection for allocation, mode: safepoint, requested by thread 0x09449c00 --------------- P R O C E S S --------------- Java Threads: ( = current thread ) 0x092afc00 JavaThread "RawImageCache" daemon [_thread_blocked, id=10026] 0xf37d1000 JavaThread "TimerQueue" daemon [_thread_blocked, id=10022] 0x09410000 JavaThread "SunTileScheduler0Standard7" daemon [_thread_blocked, id=10021] 0x0940f000 JavaThread "SunTileScheduler0Standard6" daemon [_thread_blocked, id=10020] 0x0946fc00 JavaThread "SunTileScheduler0Standard5" daemon [_thread_blocked, id=10019] 0x0946e800 JavaThread "SunTileScheduler0Standard4" daemon [_thread_blocked, id=10018] 0x0946d400 JavaThread "SunTileScheduler0Standard3" daemon [_thread_blocked, id=10017] 0x0946c000 JavaThread "SunTileScheduler0Standard2" daemon [_thread_blocked, id=10016] 0x0946ac00 JavaThread "SunTileScheduler0Standard1" daemon [_thread_blocked, id=10015] 0x0946a000 JavaThread "SunTileScheduler0Standard0" daemon [_thread_blocked, id=10014] 0x0944a800 JavaThread "Image List Poller" [_thread_blocked, id=10012] 0x09449c00 JavaThread "Image Task Queue" [_thread_blocked, id=10011] 0xf37e3c00 JavaThread "Laf-Widget fade tracker" [_thread_blocked, id=10010] 0x094abc00 JavaThread "FileCacheMonitor" daemon [_thread_blocked, id=10009] 0xf37e3800 JavaThread "DestroyJavaVM" [_thread_blocked, id=9984] 0xf37ee400 JavaThread "Thread-6" daemon [_thread_blocked, id=10006] 0xf3a7c800 JavaThread "DirectoryMonitor.MonitorThread" daemon [_thread_blocked, id=10005] 0xf3a73800 JavaThread "AWT Watchdog" daemon [_thread_blocked, id=10004] 0xf3adb800 JavaThread "TileReaper" daemon [_thread_blocked, id=10003] 0x093c3c00 JavaThread "process reaper" daemon [_thread_in_native, id=10001] 0x093ac800 JavaThread "Timer-0" daemon [_thread_blocked, id=9999] 0x093a8c00 JavaThread "AWT-EventQueue-0" [_thread_blocked, id=9997] 0x093a8000 JavaThread "AWT-Shutdown" [_thread_blocked, id=9996] 0x09378c00 JavaThread "AWT-XAWT" daemon [_thread_blocked, id=9994] 0x09368400 JavaThread "Java2D Disposer" daemon [_thread_blocked, id=9993] 0x09350000 JavaThread "Thread-1" daemon [_thread_blocked, id=9992] 0x0923b400 JavaThread "Low Memory Detector" daemon [_thread_blocked, id=9990] 0x09239c00 JavaThread "CompilerThread0" daemon [_thread_blocked, id=9989] 0x09238800 JavaThread "Signal Dispatcher" daemon [_thread_blocked, id=9988] 0x09230800 JavaThread "Finalizer" daemon [_thread_blocked, id=9987] 0x0922f400 JavaThread "Reference Handler" daemon [_thread_blocked, id=9986] Other Threads: =0x0922e000 VMThread [id=9985] 0x09245000 WatcherThread [id=9991] VM state:at safepoint (normal execution) VM Mutex/Monitor currently owned by a thread: ([mutex/lock_event]) [0x09205178/0x092051a0] Threads_lock - • Can you return an assignable lvalue in Scala?

    - by Alex R
(note, lvalue is actually a term from the C grammar, I don't know what it's called in Scala!) Trying to learn Scala... this evening I'm working on an internal DSL for a dynamically scoped language that might resemble PHP syntax. My REPL is: Welcome to Scala version 2.7.6.final (Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM, Java 1.6.0). I have some made-up example code: class $(any: Any) { def update(sym: Symbol, any: Any) { println("line 2 executed");} def -(sym: Symbol) : $ = { println("line 1 executed"); return this } def update(any: Any) { println("line 3 executed");} } The following works as expected: scala var a = new $(0) a: $ = $@19238ad scala a('x) = "blah" line 2 executed On the other hand, why does the following not invoke the 1-parameter update method? scala a = 1 :6: error: type mismatch; found : Int(1) required: $ a = 1 ^ Ultimately, I would like this to work: a-'x = "blah" Thanks

  • DotNetOpenAuth DesktopConsumer with GData help needed

Hi folks, I am trying to get DotNetOpenAuth's DesktopConsumer to work with Google, with not much success actually... Here is what I am doing (reduced to essential code parts): myApp = new DesktopConsumer(google, tm); var extraParameters = new Dictionary<string, string> { { "scope", GetScopeUri(Applications.Calendar) }, }; AuthorizeForm af = new AuthorizeForm(); af.setAuthUrl(myApp.RequestUserAuthorization(extraParameters, null, out requestToken)); // This makes a webbrowser control in the AuthorizeForm navigate to the google page //which asks for login and authorization af.ShowDialog(); // Open the form, as modal var accessTokenResponse = myApp.ProcessUserAuthorization(requestToken, af.getVerifier()); // af.getVerifier gets the verificatino code which the user has to copy from the // webbrowser control to a textbox (if he grants the authorization, of course :D) HttpWebRequest req = myApp.PrepareAuthorizedRequest( new MessageReceivingEndpoint( "http://www.google.com/calendar/feeds/default/owncalendars/full", HttpDeliveryMethods.GetRequest ), accessTokenResponse.AccessToken); WebResponse rsp = req.GetResponse(); // Here I get the "401 Unauthorized" exception Any idea what I am doing wrong? Thanks in advance, Dmitri

  • chomsky hierarchy and programming languages

    - by dader51
Hi, I'm trying to learn some aspects of the CH ( chomsky hierarchy ) which are related to PL ( programming languages ), and i still have to read the Dragon Book. I've read that most of the PL can be parsed as CFG ( context free grammar ). In term of computational power, it equals the one of a pushdown non deterministic automaton. Am I right ? If it's true, then how could a CFG holds a UG ( unrestricted grammar, which is turing complete ) ? I'm asking because, even if PL are CFG they are actually used to describe TM (turing machines ) and through UG. I think that's because of at least two different levels of computing, the first, which is the parsing of a CFG focuses on the syntax related to the structure ( representation ? ) of the language, while the other focuses on the semantic ( sense, interpretation of the data itself ? ) related to the capabilities of the pl which is turing complete. Again, are these assumptions rights ? thanx a lot.

In scala.util.matching.Regex trait MatchData I see that there support for groupnames (Named Capturing Groups) But since Java does not support groupnames until version 7 as I understand it, Scala version 2.8.0.RC4 (Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM, Java 1.6. gives me this exception: scala> val pattern = """(?<login>\w+) (?<id>\d+)""".r java.util.regex.PatternSyntaxException: Look-behind group does not have an obvio us maximum length near index 11 (?<login>\w+) (?<id>\d+) ^ at java.util.regex.Pattern.error(Pattern.java:1713) at java.util.regex.Pattern.group0(Pattern.java:2488) at java.util.regex.Pattern.sequence(Pattern.java:1806) at java.util.regex.Pattern.expr(Pattern.java:1752) at java.util.regex.Pattern.compile(Pattern.java:1460) So the question is Named Capturing Groups supported in Scala? If so any examples out there? If not I might look into the Named-Regexp lib from clement.denis.

  • Is there such a thing as a virtual COM port receipt printer?

    - by Blorgbeard
I'm debugging some code that writes directly to a COM port in order to print receipts on a receipt printer. The printer model is something like an Epsom TM-88. Instead of printing reams of thermal paper while debugging this code, it would be nice if I could use some kind of virtual printer. Like PDFCreator or FinePrint, but with a virtual COM port instead of a virtual windows printer. Does anyone know of such a thing? Edit: The code sends control characters to get bold text and other formatting. I'd like to see this in the output if possible.
