  • ASUS EeePC Fn+F2 ruins wireless until restart

    I managed to get my wireless working beautifully (ath5k driver working great), and it works over a disable/enable wireless cycle, even a suspend/wakeup cycle (read some people have issues with that). Unfortunately, I discovered that if I press Fn+F2 on my keyboard (Asus EeePC 900HA, so that's the wireless toggle key), wireless then stops working until I restart the computer. How can I fix this? I'm running UNR 10.10 (with Unity turned off tyvm!). I heard something about Jupiter controlling these keys, but what about asus-laptop? How can I fix this behaviour? TIA. (Note, I'm a power user, but still fairly new to Linux. I'm picking up speed though).

  • Ctrl-Alt-T doesn't open terminal

    I'm using Ubuntu 13.10 and I've been using for a while now as ran it from a daily build about a month ago. It's fully updated with updates, upgrades an dist-upgrades and it was working up until very recently. Not sure exactly when I last issued a Ctrl+Alt+T as I quite often just leave it running however it will have been certainly in the last week. Basically when I hit that key combo I do not get a terminal. I know that each of the keys function as I can Atl+Tab through open applications and I can Ctrl+C to copy and past Ctrl+V to paste and I've typed plenty here that has a "T" in it. I have checked Keyboard Layout in Settings and the correct combo is assigned to the terminal. You'll have to take my word for that as I'm not allowed to post my screenshot!!!!!

  • Regulating brightness using Fn-keys

    I have a laptop with the newest Ubuntu-version (12.04). I want to use the FN-Keys to adjust the brightness of my screen, but it doesnt work. Normally it should be FN+left arrow/right arrow. However adjusting the volume with FN+ up arrow/down arrow works fine. I already searched for a few soulutions, for example tried to replace in the Grub-File GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash" with GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi_backlight=vendor" or GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash cpi_osi=Linux" but it all doesnt work for my laptop.     I have a program program.exe and a document document.txt, and to open the document, I can drag document.txt onto program.exe. So far so good. Now I want to call it with a command-line parameter -param so that the full command line is program.exe -param document.txt Unfortunately, I can't do this with drag and drop, so I need to fire up cmd and type in the command manually. This takes too long, and I need an easier way. How can I create a shortcut that I can drop the file onto, and have it call the program with the command-line parameter? I tried setting the shortcut to program.exe -param "%1", but that didn't work, because it appeared to pass only the file name, and not the path, and since the current directory was the one with the program and not the one with the document, it couldn't find the document.

  • How to make cygwin shortcut stick to Windows 7 dock

    I have recently installed cygwin on a Windows 7 beta machine. Everything works great, except one little annoyance: The cygwin shortcut (Start-All Programs-cygwin-cygwin Bash Shell) cannot be pinned to the Start menu. My guess as to why is that I already have a "Console" window pinned to the start menu. My guess is that Windows sees that the two EXEs are the same and won't let me pin it. This would be fine except I cannot pin the window to the Dock either. While cygwin is running, WIndows interprets it as just a Command Window and won't let me pin it either. How do you pin the cygwin shortcut to the dock?

  • Create a folder shortcut/redirection in Vista

    Given a plain old directory of files in Windows Vista, say "C:\OldFolder\", is it possible to move the contents of that directory to a new location, perhaps "F:\NewFolder\" and keep a shortcut-like 'virtual' folder at C:\OldFolder that will always redirect access to the updated location. Shortcuts work for users accessing through the GUI to some extent, but all application links to the old location won't work anymore even with a shortcut. For example, If MS Word tried to access C:\OldFolder\document.doc I would want Windows to simply rewrite it's request to F:\NewFolder\document.doc... I guess I'm basically looking for Apache's Mod_Rewrite for Windows Vista... any suggestions?

  • Find and raise a window in KDE4 with shortcut

    Hi all! I was wondering about a possibility to find and raise some window in KDE4 with shortcut. Currently in KDE 4.4 there is a possibility to switch to window from krunner (Alt-F2). Say, I have an open konsole widow somewhere and to switch to it, I can Alt-F2, write konsole and choose konsole window I need from the list. This is great, but too much typing. I would like to have a keyboard shortcut to do the same. Maybe some DBUS magic can do that? Any ideas? Thaks! Andre

  • Disable "Print and Close" Preview Shortcut on OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

    I recently upgraded to Mountain Lion from Leopard and there is a global shortcut that I would really like to disable. Apparently, now if you select a document and press Command + p, Preview will open, print the document, then close. I'm sure this was done with the purest intentions but, unfortunately, it is right next to Command + o, which I use many times a day to open files. Since installing Mountain Lion, I've accidentally printed way too many documents just trying to open them! I've gone into the Keyboard preference pane and tried to find where this shortcut is located, but haven't had any success. Anyone know how I can disable this?

  • Keyboard shortcut / navigation references

    I use the mouse much too freely, and my wrists are not thanking me for it. I have been meaning to try and use the keyboard more as my sole means of navigating Windows, but I am having trouble sticking with it because when I need to do something and I cannot find the right shortcut, I grab the mouse and forget to let go of it again. Personally, the main software that I need keyboard reference sheets for would be: Firefox Thunderbird Visual Studio Windows itself But I would encourage more general inclusion of shortcut references in the answers in case anyone else tries to make the same transition I am attempting ;) What I am looking for is reference material that is as comprehensive as possible so that over time I can hopefully learn to do everything with the keyboard and spare my wrists. Bonus points for references that can be printed in a reasonable size so I can keep them next to my machine in hardcopy. I know there is an answer for Windows already: Is there a definitive reference for Windows shortcuts keys?, but I am leaving it in my question in case anyone has a better printable alternative.

    Tried to create a macro in Excel to insert a row: Sub InsertRow() ' ' InsertRow Macro ' ' Keyboard Shortcut: Ctrl+Shift+I ' Selection.EntireRow.Insert End Sub However, this does not insert a new row without first manually selecting a row. Every solution I've found requires that a row be highlighted before inserting a new row. But not all can use Windows 7 right now. When Windows7 was in beta and RC states I really wanted to use this features right now in current Windows version (I had Vista). So I spent my time and wrote this tool. In addition, the tool has functional which can change position of windows (It is useful for laptops, you can move windows with hotkeys). And of course this tool can move windows between monitors. Hot keys can be customized. Interface in English. Now I don’t want to add new functionality, because now I’m using Windows 7 with all functions that this tool have. I wrote this tool on C# with .NET 3.5. You can use this source code for knowing how to work with hotkeys with C#. At first I placed source code on Google Code and then placed it on CodePlex too. So you can download it from one of them. I would be glad if someone will use it. :)
