  • WCF Mono - BasicHttpBinding with SSL

    - by TheNextman
    I'm trying to port an existing WCF client application to run on Linux under Mono. Right now I'm testing everything out, figuring out what works on Mono and what doesn't. The client makes a super simple call over basicHttpBinding. It works great, until I enable SSL (that is, specify BasicHttpSecurityMode.Transport in the binding). Running on .NET in Windows, it works great Running on Mono on Ubuntu 9.10 / Mono 2.6 I get the following error: Exception in async operation: System.Net.WebException: Error getting response stream (Write: The authentication or decryption has failed.): SendFailure --- System.IO.IOException: The authentication or decryption has failed. --- Mono.Security.Protocol.Tls.TlsException: Invalid certificate received from server. Error code: 0xffffffff800b010a I've read the Mono security FAQ here: http://www.mono-project.com/FAQ:_Security; however the SSL certificate on the server is from a root CA (a purchased certificate) - issued by Equifax Secure Certificate Authority. I ran the TlsTest tool on the Ubuntu install against the .svc URL and there are no problems/errors. Also I can hit the service fine in Firefox (no security warnings). What am I missing? Thanks in advance, Richard

  • WCF - Increase ReaderQuoatas on REST service

    - by Christo Fur
    I have a WCF REST Service which accepts a JSON string One of the parameters is a large string of numbers This causes the following error - which is visible by tracing and using SVC Trace Viewer There was an error deserializing the object of type CarConfiguration. The maximum string content length quota (8192) has been exceeded while reading XML data. This quota may be increased by changing the MaxStringContentLength property on the XmlDictionaryReaderQuotas object used when creating the XML reader. Now I've read all sorts of articles advising how to rectify this All of them recommend increasing various config settings on the server and client e.g. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/65452/error-serializing-string-in-webservice-call http://bloggingabout.net/blogs/ramon/archive/2008/08/20/wcf-and-large-messages.aspx http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/wcf/thread/f570823a-8581-45ba-8b0b-ab0c7d7fcae1 So my config file looks like this <webHttpBinding> <binding name="webBinding" maxBufferSize="5242880" maxReceivedMessageSize="5242880" > <readerQuotas maxDepth="5242880" maxStringContentLength="5242880" maxArrayLength="5242880" maxBytesPerRead="5242880" maxNameTableCharCount="5242880"/> </binding> </webHttpBinding> ... ... ... <endpoint address="/" binding="webHttpBinding" bindingConfiguration="webBinding" My problem is that I can change this on the server, but there are no WCF config settings on the client as its a REST service and I'm just making a http request using the WebClient object any ideas?

  • WCF and Unity - Dependecy Injection

    - by Michael
    I'm trying to hock up WCF with dependecy injection. All the examples that I have found is based on the assumptions that you either uses a .svc (ServiceHostFactory) service or uses app.config to configure the container. Other examples is also based on that the container is passed around to the classes. I would like a solution where the container is not passed around (not tightly coupled to Unity). Where I don't uses a config file to configure the container and where I use self-hosted services. The problem is - as I see it - that the ServiceHost is taking the type of the service implementation as a parameter so what different does it do to use the InstanceProvider? The solution I have come up with at the moment is to register the ServiceHost (or a specialization) an register a Type with a name ( e.g. container.RegisterInstance<Type>("ServiceName", typeof(Service);). And then container.RegisterType<UnityServiceHost>(new InjectionConstructor(new ResolvedParameter<Type>("ServiceName"))); to register the ServiceHost. Any better solutions out there? I'm I perhaps way of in my assumptions. Best regards, Michael

  • Error in WCF service - Silverlight client communication.

    - by David
    I created a WCF service and I planned to consume this in a Silverlight application. So I created the WCF service in the Website host project. The service is a simple WCF service that only returns a number - something like a Hello World WCF-SL. So after adding a service reference in the silverlight client project to the Service URI, after calling async the service method (by using the generated proxy), I get the following exception in the callback method: An error occurred while trying to make a request to URI 'http://localhost:4566/SLService.svc'. This could be due to attempting to access a service in a cross-domain way without a proper cross-domain policy in place, or a policy that is unsuitable for SOAP services. You may need to contact the owner of the service to publish a cross-domain policy file and to ensure it allows SOAP-related HTTP headers to be sent. This error may also be caused by using internal types in the web service proxy without using the InternalsVisibleToAttribute attribute. Please see the inner exception for more details. I only created a HelloWorld WCF service with nothing else but a simple method that returns a dumb number and it's hosted on my locally. Must I have clientaccesspolicy.xml or crossdomain.xml? I acces my service locally. Every time I create a new simple/dumb WCF-SL solution, I get this error. I use VS2010 and Silverlight 4. I cannot get a simple/dumb WCF-SL solution working locally. Is there something wrong with the configuration? On another machine in the same network, it does work properly, so I assume something is misconfigured. Any thoughts?

  • Complex data types in WCF?

    - by Hojou
    I've run into a problem trying to return an object that holds a collection of childobjects that again can hold a collection of grandchild objects. I get an error, 'connection forcibly closed by host'. Is there any way to make this work? I currently have a structure resembling this: pseudo code: Person: IEnumerable<Order> Order: IEnumberable<OrderLine> All three objects have the DataContract attribute and all public properties i want exposed (including the IEnumerable's) have the DataMember attribute. I have multiple OperationContract's on my service and all the methods returning a single object OR an IEnumerable of an object works perfectly. It's only when i try to nest IEnumerable that it turns bad. Also in my client service reference i picked the generic list as my collection type. I just want to emphasize, only one of my operations/methods fail with this error - the rest of them work perfectly. EDIT (more detailed error description): [SocketException (0x2746): An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host] [IOException: Unable to read data from the transport connection: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.] [WebException: The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a receive.] [CommunicationException: An error occurred while receiving the HTTP response to http://myservice.mydomain.dk/MyService.svc. This could be due to the service endpoint binding not using the HTTP protocol. This could also be due to an HTTP request context being aborted by the server (possibly due to the service shutting down). See server logs for more details.] I tried looking for logs but i can't find any... also i'm using a WSHttpBinding and an http endpoint.

  • What could be causing a "Cannot access a disposed object" error in WCF?

    - by Nima
    I am using the following code: private WSHttpBinding ws; private EndpointAddress Srv_Login_EndPoint; private ChannelFactory<Srv_Login.Srv_ILogin> Srv_LoginChannelFactory; private Srv_Login.Srv_ILogin LoginService; The Login is my constructor: public Login() { InitializeComponent(); ws = new WSHttpBinding(); Srv_Login_EndPoint = new EndpointAddress("http://localhost:2687/Srv_Login.svc"); Srv_LoginChannelFactory = new ChannelFactory<Srv_Login.Srv_ILogin>(ws, Srv_Login_EndPoint); } And I'm using service this way: private void btnEnter_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { try { LoginService = Srv_LoginChannelFactory.CreateChannel(); Srv_Login.LoginResult res = new Srv_Login.LoginResult(); res = LoginService.IsAuthenticated(txtUserName.Text.Trim(), txtPassword.Text.Trim()); if (res.Status == true) { int Id = int.Parse(res.Result.ToString()); } else { lblMessage.Text = "Not Enter"; } } catch (Exception ex) { MessageBox.Show(ex.Message); } finally { Srv_LoginChannelFactory.Close(); } } When the user enters a valid username and password, everything is fine. When the user enters a wrong username and password, the first try correctly displays a "Not Enter" message, but on the second try, the user sees this message: {System.ObjectDisposedException: Cannot access a disposed object. Object name: 'System.ServiceModel.ChannelFactory`1[Test_Poosesh.Srv_Login.Srv_ILogin]'. at System.ServiceModel.Channels.CommunicationObject.ThrowIfDisposed() at System.ServiceModel.ChannelFactory.EnsureOpened() at System.ServiceModel.ChannelFactory`1.CreateChannel(EndpointAddress address, Uri via) at System.ServiceModel.ChannelFactory`1.CreateChannel() How can I fix my code to prevent this error from occurring?

  • How to I get the value of a custom soap header in WCF

    - by Jason Coyne
    I have created a custom soap header, and added it into my message via IClientMessageInspector public object BeforeSendRequest(ref System.ServiceModel.Channels.Message request, System.ServiceModel.IClientChannel channel) { var header = new MessageHeader<AuthHeader>(); header.Content = new AuthHeader(Key); header.Actor = "Anyone"; var header2 = header.GetUntypedHeader("Auth", "xWow"); request.Headers.Add(header2); return null; } [DataContract(Name="Auth")] public class AuthHeader { public AuthHeader(string key) { this.Key = key; } [DataMember] public string Key { get; set; } } I also have an IDispatchMessageInspector, and I can find the correct header in the list. However, there is no value. I know that the value went across the wire correctly, because the message string is correct <s:Envelope xmlns:s=\"http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/\">\r\n <s:Header>\r\n <Auth s:actor=\"Anyone\" xmlns=\"xWow\" xmlns:i=\"http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance\">\r\n <Key xmlns=\"http://schemas.datacontract.org/2004/07/xWow.Lib\">HERE IS MY KEY VALUE!!!!</Key>\r\n </Auth>\r\n <To s:mustUnderstand=\"1\" xmlns=\"http://schemas.microsoft.com/ws/2005/05/addressing/none\">http://localhost:26443/AuthService.svc</To>\r\n <Action s:mustUnderstand=\"1\" xmlns=\"http://schemas.microsoft.com/ws/2005/05/addressing/none\">http://tempuri.org/IAuthService/GetPayload</Action>\r\n </s:Header>\r\n <s:Body>\r\n <GetPayload xmlns=\"http://tempuri.org/\" />\r\n </s:Body>\r\n</s:Envelope>" But there does not seem to be any property to retrieve this value. The MessageHeaderInfo class has Actor, etc, but nothing else useful I can find. On the client side I had to convert between Header and Untyped header, is there an equivalent operation on the server?

  • WCF ReliableMessaging method called twice

    - by Brian
    Using Fiddler, we see 3 HTTP requests (and matching responses) for each call when: WS-ReliableMessaging is enabled, and, the method returns a large amount of data (17MB) The first HTTP request is a SOAP message with the action "CreateSequence" (presumable to establish the reliable session). The second and third HTTP requests are identical SOAP messages invoking our webservice method. Why are there two identical messages? Here is our config: <system.serviceModel> <client> <endpoint address="http://server/vdir/AccountingService.svc" binding="wsHttpBinding" bindingConfiguration="customWsHttpBinding" behaviorConfiguration="LargeServiceBehavior" contract="MyProject.Accounting.IAccountingService" name="BasicHttpBinding_IAccountingService" /> </client> <bindings> <wsHttpBinding> <binding name="customWsHttpBinding" maxReceivedMessageSize="90000000"> <reliableSession enabled="true"/> <security mode="None" /> </binding> </wsHttpBinding> </bindings> <behaviors> <endpointBehaviors> <behavior name="LargeServiceBehavior"> <dataContractSerializer maxItemsInObjectGraph="2147483647"/> </behavior> </endpointBehaviors> </behaviors> </system.serviceModel> Thanks, Brian

  • OData / WCF Data Service - HTTP 500 Error

    - by Eric
    I have created an OData/WCF service using Visual Studio 2010 on Windows XP SP3 with all current patches installed. When I click on "view in browser", the service opens and I see the 3 tables from my EF model. However, when I add a table name ("Commands" in this case) to the end of the query string, rather than seeing the data from the table, I get an HTTP 500 error. (This error (HTTP 500 Internal Server Error) means that the website you are visiting had a server problem which prevented the webpage from displaying.). I have not only followed the examples from 2 sites, but have also tried running the sample application that the blog poster sent me (that works on his machine), and still am not having any luck. The blog post is at Exposing OData from an Entity Framework Model Does anyone have an idea why this is occurring and how to resolve it? Here is the output of the "View in Browser": <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" standalone="yes" ?> - <service xml:base="http://localhost:1883/VistaDBCommandService.svc/" xmlns:atom="http://www.w3.org/2005/Atom" xmlns:app="http://www.w3.org/2007/app" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2007/app"> - <workspace> <atom:title>Default</atom:title> - <collection href="Commands"> <atom:title>Commands</atom:title> </collection> - <collection href="Databases"> <atom:title>Databases</atom:title> </collection> - <collection href="Statuses"> <atom:title>Statuses</atom:title> </collection> </workspace> </service> ============================= Thanks, Eric

  • How do I Pass Parameter in Ajax Url?

    - by Nimit Joshi
    I have developed a service which is running successfully. Following is my service code: namespace WcfService1 { [ServiceContract] public interface IService1 { [OperationContract] [WebInvoke(Method="GET", ResponseFormat = WebMessageFormat.Json, BodyStyle=WebMessageBodyStyle.Wrapped, UriTemplate="/display/{a}/{b}")] string Display(string a, string b); } } My Service: namespace WcfService1 { public class Service1 : IService1 { public string Display(string a, string b) { int ab = Convert.ToInt32(a); int bc = Convert.ToInt32(b); int cb = ab + bc; return cb.ToString(); } } } How do i call this with the help of ajax url? I have tried out the following code but it is not working. <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function () { $('#BtnRegister').click(function () { debugger; var No1 = document.getElementById('TxtFirstNumber').value; var No2 = document.getElementById('TxtSecondNumber').value; $.ajax({ cache: false, type: "GET", async: false, url: "http://localhost:22727/Service1.svc/Display", data: 'a=' +No1+'&b='+No2, contentType: "application/json; charset=ytf-8", dataType: "json", processData: true, success: function (result) { alert("data"); }, error: function (xhr, textStatus, errorThrown) { alert(textStatus + ':' + errorThrown); } }); }); }); </script>

  • MS AJAX Library 4.0 Sys.create.dataView

    - by azamsharp
    One again Microsoft poor documentation has left me confused. I am trying to use the new features of the .NET 4.0 framework. I am using the following code to populate the Title and Director but it keeps getting blank. <script language="javascript" type="text/javascript"> Sys.require([Sys.components.dataView, Sys.components.dataContext,Sys.scripts.WebServices], function () { Sys.create.dataView("#moviesView", { dataProvider: "MovieService.svc", fetchOperation: "GetMovies", autoFetch: true }); }); </script> And here it the HTML code: <ul id="moviesView"> <li> {{Title}} - {{Director}} </li> </ul> IS THIS THE LATEST URL TO Start.js file. Here is the Ajax-Enabled WCF Service: [ServiceContract(Namespace = "")] [AspNetCompatibilityRequirements(RequirementsMode = AspNetCompatibilityRequirementsMode.Allowed)] public class MovieService { [OperationContract] public Movie GetMovies() { return new Movie() { Title = "SS", Director = "SSSSS" }; } } [DataContract] public class Movie { [DataMember] public string Title { get; set; } [DataMember] public string Director { get; set; } }

  • Why won't VS2010 RC use my existing types when I add a service reference?

    - by Johan Driessen
    I have a huge problem getting services references in VS2010 RC to use existing assemblies. Even though I have a class library with all the data contracts (classes marked with DataContract and properties with DataMember) that is shared between the service project and the consuming project (which is a class library), when I add a service reference, the data contracts are regenerated withing the service reference instead of using the existing types. When I was using VS2010 beta 2, this worked fine, and I have existing service references using the very same data contracts. But if I add a new service reference, or even update an old one, it won't use the existing types anymore. I have made a mini-test-solution, with one service, one data contract type and one console app as a consumer (all in the same solution), and there it seems to work, but that's no great comfort to me. Is there any way to see why it can't use the existing types? Edit to clearify. It works to generate the proxy classes with svcutil.exe, and point to the data contracts dll, like this: svcutil.exe http://localhost/MyService.svc /reference:[Path To DataContracts]\DataContracts.dll /n:*,MyProject.MyServiceReference /ct:System.Collections.Generic.List`1 The question is, what possible reason could there be for Visual Studio to generate its own datacontracts instead of using the existing ones even though the "reuse" checkbox is checked and the datacontracts assembly is referenced.

  • How to send a JSONObject to a REST service?

    - by Sebi
    Retrieving data from the REST Server works well, but if I want to post an object it doesn't work: public static void postJSONObject(int store_type, FavoriteItem favorite, String token, String objectName) { String url = ""; switch(store_type) { case STORE_PROJECT: url = URL_STORE_PROJECT_PART1 + token + URL_STORE_PROJECT_PART2; //data = favorite.getAsJSONObject(); break; } HttpClient httpClient = new DefaultHttpClient(); HttpPost postMethod = new HttpPost(url); try { HttpEntity entity = new StringEntity("{\"ID\":0,\"Name\":\"Mein Projekt10\"}"); postMethod.setEntity(entity); HttpResponse response = httpClient.execute(postMethod); Log.i("JSONStore", "Post request, to URL: " + url); System.out.println("Status code: " + response.getStatusLine().getStatusCode()); } catch (ClientProtocolException e) { I always get a 400 Error Code. Does anybody know whats wrong? I have working C# code, but I can't convert: System.Net.WebRequest wr = System.Net.HttpWebRequest.Create("http://localhost:51273/WSUser.svc/pak3omxtEuLrzHSUSbQP/project"); wr.Method = "POST"; string data = "{\"ID\":1,\"Name\":\"Mein Projekt\"}"; byte [] d = UTF8Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(data); wr.ContentLength = d.Length; wr.ContentType = "application/json"; wr.GetRequestStream().Write(d, 0, d.Length); System.Net.WebResponse wresp = wr.GetResponse(); System.IO.StreamReader sr = new System.IO.StreamReader(wresp.GetResponseStream()); string line = sr.ReadToEnd();

  • WCF Fails when using impersonation over 2 machine boundaries (3 machines)

    - by MrTortoise
    These scenarios work in their pieces. Its when i put it all together that it breaks. I have a WCF service using netTCP that uses impersonation to get the callers ID (role based security will be used at this level) on top of this is a WCF service using basicHTTP with TransportCredientialOnly which also uses impersonation I then have a client front end that connects to the basicHttp. the aim of the game is to return the clients username from the netTCP service at the bottom - so ultimatley i can use role based security here. each service is on a different machine - and each service works when you remove any calls they make to other services when you run a client for them both locally and remotley. IE the problem only manifests when you jump accross more than one machine boundary. IE the setup breaks when i connect each part together - but they work fine on their own. I also specify [OperationBehavior(Impersonation = ImpersonationOption.Required)] in the method and have IIS setup to only allow windows authentication (actually i have ananymous enabled still, but disabling makes no difference) This impersonation works fine in the scenario where i have a netTCP Service on Machine A with a client with a basicHttp service on machine B with a clinet for the basicHttp service also on machine B ... however if i move that client to any machine C i get the following error: The exception is 'The socket connection was aborted. This could be caused by an error processing your message or a receive timeout being exceeded by the remote host, or an underlying network resource issue. Local socket timeout was '00:10:00'' the inner message is 'An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host' Am beginning to think this is more a network issue than config ... but then im grasping at straws ... the config files are as follows (heading from the client down to the netTCP layer) <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <configuration> <system.serviceModel> <bindings> <basicHttpBinding> <binding name="basicHttpBindingEndpoint" closeTimeout="00:02:00" openTimeout="00:02:00" receiveTimeout="00:10:00" sendTimeout="00:02:00" allowCookies="false" bypassProxyOnLocal="false" hostNameComparisonMode="StrongWildcard" maxBufferSize="65536" maxBufferPoolSize="524288" maxReceivedMessageSize="65536" messageEncoding="Text" textEncoding="utf-8" transferMode="Buffered" useDefaultWebProxy="true"> <readerQuotas maxDepth="32" maxStringContentLength="8192" maxArrayLength="16384" maxBytesPerRead="4096" maxNameTableCharCount="16384" /> <security mode="TransportCredentialOnly"> <transport clientCredentialType="Windows" proxyCredentialType="None" realm="" /> <message clientCredentialType="UserName" algorithmSuite="Default" /> </security> </binding> </basicHttpBinding> </bindings> <client> <endpoint address="http://panrelease01/WCFTopWindowsTest/Service1.svc" binding="basicHttpBinding" bindingConfiguration="basicHttpBindingEndpoint" contract="ServiceReference1.IService1" name="basicHttpBindingEndpoint" behaviorConfiguration="ImpersonationBehaviour" /> </client> <behaviors> <endpointBehaviors> <behavior name="ImpersonationBehaviour"> <clientCredentials> <windows allowedImpersonationLevel="Impersonation"/> </clientCredentials> </behavior> </endpointBehaviors> </behaviors> </system.serviceModel> </configuration> the service for the client (basicHttp service and the client for the netTCP service) <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <configuration> <system.web> <compilation debug="true" targetFramework="4.0" /> </system.web> <system.serviceModel> <bindings> <netTcpBinding> <binding name="netTcpBindingEndpoint" closeTimeout="00:01:00" openTimeout="00:01:00" receiveTimeout="00:10:00" sendTimeout="00:01:00" transactionFlow="false" transferMode="Buffered" transactionProtocol="OleTransactions" hostNameComparisonMode="StrongWildcard" listenBacklog="10" maxBufferPoolSize="524288" maxBufferSize="65536" maxConnections="10" maxReceivedMessageSize="65536"> <readerQuotas maxDepth="32" maxStringContentLength="8192" maxArrayLength="16384" maxBytesPerRead="4096" maxNameTableCharCount="16384" /> <reliableSession ordered="true" inactivityTimeout="00:10:00" enabled="false" /> <security mode="Transport"> <transport clientCredentialType="Windows" protectionLevel="EncryptAndSign" /> <message clientCredentialType="Windows" /> </security> </binding> </netTcpBinding> <basicHttpBinding> <binding name="basicHttpWindows"> <security mode="TransportCredentialOnly"> <transport clientCredentialType="Windows"></transport> </security> </binding> </basicHttpBinding> </bindings> <client> <endpoint address="net.tcp://5d2x23j.panint.com/netTCPwindows/Service1.svc" binding="netTcpBinding" bindingConfiguration="netTcpBindingEndpoint" contract="ServiceReference1.IService1" name="netTcpBindingEndpoint" behaviorConfiguration="ImpersonationBehaviour"> <identity> <dns value="localhost" /> </identity> </endpoint> </client> <behaviors> <endpointBehaviors> <behavior name="ImpersonationBehaviour"> <clientCredentials> <windows allowedImpersonationLevel="Impersonation" allowNtlm="true"/> </clientCredentials> </behavior> </endpointBehaviors> <serviceBehaviors> <behavior name="WCFTopWindowsTest.basicHttpWindowsBehaviour"> <!-- To avoid disclosing metadata information, set the value below to false and remove the metadata endpoint above before deployment --> <serviceMetadata httpGetEnabled="true" /> <!-- To receive exception details in faults for debugging purposes, set the value below to true. • How do I use HttpWebRequest GET method w/ ContentType="application/json"

    - by Stephen Patten
    Hello, This one is real simple, run this Silverlight4 example with the ContentType property commented out and you'll get back a response from from my service in xml. Now uncomment the property and run it and you'll get an ProtocolViolationException, what should happen is the service returns JSON formatted data. HttpWebRequest wreq = (HttpWebRequest)WebRequestCreator.ClientHttp.Create(new Uri("http://stephenpattenconsulting.com/Services/GetFoodDescriptionsLookup(2100)")); //wreq.ContentType = "application/json"; wreq.BeginGetResponse((cb) => { HttpWebRequest rq = cb.AsyncState as HttpWebRequest; HttpWebResponse resp = rq.EndGetResponse(cb) as HttpWebResponse; // Exception StreamReader rdr = new StreamReader(resp.GetResponseStream()); string result = rdr.ReadToEnd(); rdr.Close(); }, wreq); EDIT: While perusing SO, I noticed similar posts, like this one Why am I getting ProtocolViolationException when trying to use HttpWebRequest? and this one How do I use HttpWebRequest with GET method EDIT: The WCF 4 end point is 'adapted' from this link http://geekswithblogs.net/michelotti/archive/2010/08/21/restful-wcf-services-with-no-svc-file-and-no-config.aspx. I can use Fiddler's request builder to to construct the proper requests and changing the content type does yield the correct results.

  • WCF with SSL- not finding localhost

    - by SteveCav
    Hi guys, I'm trying to get WCF to use SSL with ANYTHING for FIVE DAYS now. I've gone through countless walkthroughs, generated more certificates than a mail order diploma company, even tried hot fixes. After working with MS dev tools since VB1, I am now considering flipping burgers as a career option. WCF, as far as I can see, is a complete lemon. Anyway, to get to my actual question: If I run through this walkthrough: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff648840.aspx I get to step 11 (adding the service reference) and get "There was an error downloading metadata from the address. Please verify that you have entered a valid address". Details of the error gives: There was an error downloading 'https://localhost/SSL6/Service.svc'. Unable to connect to the remote server No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it 127.0.0.1:443 I'm using VS2008 on Windows 7 with IIS7. I followed the walkthrough exactly (apart from step 5 which was different on IIS7- I went into "SSL Settings" for the VD), so it shows my config (yes I've used httpsGetEnabled and mexHttpsBinding). Anyone care to save my sanity and job?

  • WCF cross-domain policy security error

    - by George2
    Hello everyone, I am using VSTS 2008 + C# + WCF + .Net 3.5 + Silverlight 3.0. I host Silverlight control in an html page and debug it from VSTS 2008 (press F5, then run in VSTS 2008 built-in ASP.Net development web server), then call another WCF service (hosted in another machine running IIS 7.0 + Vista). The WCF service is very simple, just return a constant string to client. When invoking the WCF service from Silverlight, I got the following error message, An error occurred while trying to make a request to URI 'https://LabTest/Test.svc'. Here is the clientaccesspolicy.xml file, anything wrong? <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <access-policy> <cross-domain-access> <policy> <allow-from http-request-headers="*"> <domain uri="*"> </domain> </allow-from> <grant-to> <resource path="/" include-subpaths="true"></resource> </grant-to> </policy> </cross-domain-access> </access-policy> thanks in advance, George

  • Problem adding a behaviors element to my WCF client config

    - by SteveChadbourne
    I'm trying to add a behaviors element to my client config file so I can specify maxItemsInObjectGraph. The error I get is: The element 'system.serviceModel' has invalid child element 'behaviors'. List of possible elements expected: 'bindings, client, extensions'. Here is my config: <configuration> <system.serviceModel> <bindings> <basicHttpBinding> <binding name="BasicHttpBinding_KernService" maxBufferSize="2147483647" maxReceivedMessageSize="2147483647"> <security mode="None" /> </binding> </basicHttpBinding> </bindings> <behaviors> <endpointBehaviors> <behavior name="ServiceViewEventBehavior"> <dataContractSerializer maxItemsInObjectGraph="2147483647"/> </behavior> </endpointBehaviors> </behaviors> <client> <endpoint address="http://localhost/KernMobile.WCF/KernService.svc" binding="basicHttpBinding" bindingConfiguration="BasicHttpBinding_KernService" contract="KernWcfService.KernService" name="BasicHttpBinding_KernService" behaviorConfiguration="ServiceViewEventBehavior" /> </client> </system.serviceModel> </configuration> It's also complaining about the behaviorConfiguration attribute in the endpoint element. Any ideas? .Net 4.0 BTW.

  • Doing a POST to a Service Operation in ADO.NET data services

    - by DataServices123
    Is it possible to POST to a service operation defined in an ADO.NET data service (it is decorated with WebInvoke)? I had no problem calling the service operation as an HTTP GET. However, when I switched to doing a POST, the stack trace consistently comes back with "Parameter cannot be NULL". I am using the jQuery syntax below, and sending the POST as JSON (though I'm not including the $.ajax call, the parameter names line up exactly). It would be possible to try this with WCF, as opposed to ADO.NET data services (newly renamed as WCF data services). However, my preference would be to use this approach first. I have tried this with and without the stringify method. Most examples online only show how to use a POST to entities (i.e. for handling CRUD operations). However, in this case we are POSTing to a Service Operation. function PostToDataService() { varType = "POST"; varUrl = "http://dev-server/MyServices/MyService.svc/SampleSO"; varData = { CustomMessage: $("#TextBox1").val() }; varData = JSON.stringify(varData); varContentType = "application/json; charset=utf-8"; varDataType = "json"; varProcessData = true; CallService(); }

  • Publishing WCF .NET 3.5 to IIS 5.1

    - by Adam
    I've been developing a WCF web service using .NET 3.5 with IIS7 and it works perfectly on my local computer. I tried publishing it to a server running IIS 5.1 and even though I can view the WSDL in my browser, the client application doesn't seem to be connecting to it correctly. I launched a packet sniffing app (Charles Proxy) and the response for the first message comes back to the client empty (0 bytes). Every message after the first one times out. The WCF service is part of a larger application that uses ASP .NET 3.5. That application has been working fine on IIS 5.1 for awhile now so I think it's something specific to WCF. I also tried throwing an exception in the SVC file to see if it made it that far and the exception never got thrown so I have a feeling it's something more low level that's not working. Any thoughts? Is there anything I need to install on the IIS5 server? If so how am I still able to view the WSDL in my browser?

  • WCF - "Encountered unexpected character 'c'."

    - by Villager
    Hello, I am trying to do something that I thought would be simple. I need to create a WCF service that I can post to via JQuery. I have an operation in my WCF service that is defined as follows: [OperationContract] [WebInvoke(Method = "POST", BodyStyle = WebMessageBodyStyle.WrappedRequest, RequestFormat=WebMessageFormat.Json, ResponseFormat=WebMessageFormat.Json)] public string SendMessage(string message, int urgency) { try { // Do stuff return "1"; // 1 represents success } catch (Exception) { return "0"; } } I then try to access this operation from an ASP.NET page via JQuery. My JQuery code to access this operation looks like the following: function sendMessage(message) { $.ajax({ url: "/resources/services/myService.svc/SendMessage", type: "POST", contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8", data: ({ message: message, urgency: '1' }), dataType: "json", success: function (data) { alert("here!"); }, error: function (req, msg, obj) { alert("error: " + req.responseText); } }); } When I execute this script, the error handler is tripped. In it, I receive an error that says: "Encountered unexpected character 'c'." This message is included with a long stack trace. My question is, what am I doing wrong? I have received other posts such as this one (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/320291/how-to-post-an-array-of-complex-objects-with-json-jquery-to-asp-net-mvc-controll) without any luck. How do I get this basic interaction working? Thank you!

  • Webinvoke to POST JSON with ajax call

    - by G-Man
    This is my first time that I an using WCF Service with Knockout. I want to POST an entire view model as a JSON object with an ajax call. This is the error message that I get: Endpoints using 'UriTemplate' cannot be used with 'System.ServiceModel.Description.WebScriptEnablingBehavior' I have noticed that some developers send each value as a parameter which I feel is unnecessary especially if you work with a big object. This is my WCF method: [OperationContract] [WebInvoke(UriTemplate = "AddNewEvent?newEvent", Method = "POST", ResponseFormat = WebMessageFormat.Json, RequestFormat = WebMessageFormat.Json)] public bool AddNewEvent(Models.DAL_CRMEvents newEvent) { Entities.CRMEntities dbCRM = new Entities.CRMEntities(); //Models.CRMEvents crmEvent = new Models.CRMEvents(); Entities.Event crmEvent = new Entities.Event(); crmEvent.EventDateCreated = Convert.ToDateTime(newEvent.DateCreated); crmEvent.EventActive = true; crmEvent.EventDescription = newEvent.Description; crmEvent.EventDate = Convert.ToDateTime(newEvent.Date); crmEvent.EventTimeStart = TimeSpan.Parse(newEvent.TimeStart); crmEvent.EventTimeEnd = TimeSpan.Parse(newEvent.TimeEnd); crmEvent.EventAllDay = newEvent.AllDay; dbCRM.AddToEvent(crmEvent); return true; } This is my ajax function function SaveEvent (data) { var s = { newEvent: ko.mapping.toJS(data) } alert(data.AllDay()); $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: "../Services/CRMDataService.svc/AddNewEvent", data: JSON.stringify(s), contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8", dataType: "JSON", success: function (result) { alert(result); }, error: function (jqXHR, textStatus, errorThrown) { if (textStatus == "error" && errorThrown != "") { var n = noty({ text: errorThrown, type: 'warning', dismissQueue: false, modal: true, layout: 'center', theme: 'defaults', callback: { } }) } } }) }
