  • Java EE@Princeton Java Meetup

    Devoxx 2013 has officially started! Looking forward to catching up with Java community member friends--old and new this week. Tuesday (today) the Hackergarten has returned to Devoxx!  There are Java EE 7 tables and Java SE 8 Lambda tables.  Kudos to Andres Almirey for organizing the event and to Arun Gupta and Stuart Marks for leading the activities -- awesome Adopt-a-JSR participation in action!     I came across this code today whilst reading Accelerated GWT (Gupta) - page 151. public static void getListOfBooks(String category, BookStore bookStore) { serviceInstance.getBooks(category, bookStore.new BookListUpdaterCallback()); } public static void storeOrder(List books, String userName, BookStore bookStore) { serviceInstance.storeOrder(books, userName, bookStore.new StoreOrderCallback()); } What are those new operators doing there? I've never seen such syntax, can anyone explain?

    The first Bay Area JUG Roundup (#roundup10) convened at Oracle HQ on Wednesday evening, in the palatial surroundings of the Oracle Conference Center. (Yes, there will be more!) A couple hundred people were there, I'd say. More came out of this meetup than a bunch of new contacts and some mild indigestion (or even a mild hangover): - We (meaning, Oracle) announced the opening of the eight annual Duke's Choice Awards. As described on the Web page, "The awards celebrate extreme innovation in the world of Java technology and are granted to the best and most innovative projects using the Java platform." Entries will be accepted through July 1, with winners announced at JavaOne 2010. - Even more exciting, we offered a sneak preview of the Java Road Trip, a cross-country, 20-stop bus tour this Summer involving one rock-star bus, one full-time blogger/videographer, a whole bunch of Java demos and speakers, and lots of beer and prizes. Sonya also announced that Maven support for Java.net projects is imminent, with just a contract to be signed in the next couple of weeks.   • A Panorama of JavaOne Latin America

    As you know, JavaOne Latin America 2012 was held at the Transamerica Expo Center in Sao Paulo, Brazil on December 4-6. It was a resounding success with a great vibe, excellent technical content and numerous world class speakers, both local and international. Various folks like Tori Wieldt, Steve Chin, Arun Gupta, Bruno Borges and myself looked at the conference from slightly different colored lenses. It's interesting to put them all together in a panoramatic collage: Tori wrote about the Sao Paulo Geek Bike Ride held the Saturday before the conference here (enjoy the photos and video). She also discusses the keynotes in great detail here. Steve looked at it from the viewpoint of someome instrumental to putting the event together. Read his thoughts here (he has more geek bike ride photos as well as material for his JavaFX/HTML 5 talk). Arun had a more holistic view of the conference.
