    My question has two parts: 1) In your team or organization, do you ever do in-person code reviews with all or part of a team, as opposed to online reviews using some sort of tool? 2) How do you structure these meetings? Do you choose to focus on one person's code in a given meeting? Do you look at everything? Take a random sample? Ask people on the team what they'd like to have looked at of theirs? I'd love to add this practice to my development team, so I'd like to hear how others are doing it.

    I am soon going to be in a team where a very talented programmer works. Everyone int the company likes him as he knows a lot of thing and does a lot of programming. The PM and the CEO likes him a lot. I am his fan as a programmer. But as a team mate? I always try to avoid him. The reason is, in the very early days of our company our CEO used to choose both of us in a same team we worked together. Then I had many terrible experiences. Most of the time he is doing others work. When team leader breaks the work load and distributes it, He used to work more than a workday everyday and also doing my own work. The result was same duplicate code. He is not working my working finishing his own, he is doing it in the middle. how do you treat such team-mates.

    This is year 3 and product is selling good enough. Now we need to enforce good software development practices. The goal is to monitor incoming bug reports and reduce them, allow never ending features and get ready for scaling 10x. The phrases "test-driven-development" and "continuous-integration" are not even understood by the team cause they were all in the first 2 year product race. Tech team size is 5.     Well first I would like to add at the moment I have had 1174 page views. That does not count people who just browse via the homepage so add around another 200 visitors! Well back on the subject I have recently joined Ubuntu-AU (Australia) LoCo team and it is great! Basilar it is a Ubuntu loco community group and just before the my first time being at a meeting I was emailing the admin and he said that there was a stop for a team reporter and I put my hand up and he said 'yes'. He was actually going to ask at the team meeting I would have said no way! But because I saw it before hand and I asked him I wanted to do it. If you live in Australia consider join Ubuntu-AU they also have a Launchpad team.

  • how to exclude a Web Reference from Code Coverage in VS 2008 Team System

    When I run my MSTest tests in Visual Studio 2008 Team System and get code coverage results, I always see a particular web service included. I don't care how well this web service is tested, I'm intentionally only using a small part of it. How can I exclude the Web Reference from showing up in my Code Coverage results? I see that someone asked this very question over on Microsoft Connect and it's marked as postponed, but I was hoping someone knew of a workaround.

    Hello Everyone, Yesterday, I asked a question Migrate to TFS and the answer mentioned some very good tools which can be very helpful. Thanks to jwanagel. But I forgot to mention there the VSS server and TFS server are two different machines. And when you've both on different location it seems you would have to take a different path. What would I have to do to migrate my Visual SourceSafe database which is on a different machine to a TFS Server which is on an another machine? Thanks.

  • How to handle build rule with unknown targets in OMake when target list generator is built

    I have a project which uses OMake for its build system, and I am trying to handle a rather tough corner case. I have some definition files and a tool which can take these definition files and create GraphViz files. There are two problems, though: Each definition file can produce multiple graphs, and the list of graphs it can produce is encoded in the file. My dump tool does have a -list option which lists all the graphs a definition file will produce. This dump tool is built in the source tree. I want this list available in the OMakefile so I can use other rules to convert the DOT files to SVG, and have a phony target depend on all the SVGs (goal: a single build command which builds SVG descriptions of all my graphs). If I only had the first problem, it would be easy - I would run the tool to build a list, and then use that list to build a target which invokes the dumper to output the GraphViz files. However, I am rather stuck on forcing the dump tool to be built before it is needed. If this were make, I would just run make recursively to build the dump tool. OMake does not allow recursive invocation, however, and the build function is only usable from osh. Any suggestions for a good solution to this problem?
