• How to reference other locations in making multi-boot live cd

  There is a tool in pen drive linux that allows you to boot directly with multiple iso files. And here is a sample in the menu.lst which allows you to choose which iso file you want to boot. title Fedora 13 find --set-root /Fedora-12-i686-L.iso map /ubuntu-10.04-desktop-i386.iso (0xff) map --hook root (0xff) kernel /casper/vmlinuz file=/cdrom/preseed/ubuntu.seed boot=casper persistent iso-scan/filename=/ubuntu-10.04-desktop-i386.iso splash initrd /casper/initrd.lz I'm just using it on my 8gb flash drive and the location of the iso file is in the flash drive itself. Is it possible to reference other locations. So that I could boot from it, without limitations. because the flash drive can only contain 8gb of data. Is it possible? Anyone here tried this before?

  I want to display an exception trace in the HTML page. One way to do this is to escape HTML special characters in the exception trace and dump it inside the <pre> tag. Although it works, it's terribly inefficient. I thought that one approach would be to wrap the trace with CDATA. I've tried it, but nothing get's displayed. My question, can this be done?   I am new to Microsoft Detours. I have installed it to trace the system calls a process makes. I run the following commands which I got from the web syelogd.exe /q C:\Users\xxx\Desktop\log.txt withdll.exe /d:traceapi.dll C:\Program Files\Google\Google Talk\googletalk.exe I get the log file. The problem is I don't fully understand what is happening here. How does detours work? How does it trace the system calls? Also I don't know how to read the output in log.txt. • How to generate a stacktrace when my gcc C++ app crashes

  When my c++ app crashes I would like to generate a stacktrace. I already asked this but I guess I needed to clarify my needs. My app is being run by many different users and it also runs on Linux, Windows and Macintosh ( all versions are compiled using gcc ). I would like my program to be able to generate a stack trace when it crashes and the next time the user run's it, it will ask them if it is ok to send the stack trace to me so I can track down the problem. I can handle the sending the info to me but I don't know how to generate the trace string. Any ideas?

• Using clojure.contrib functions in slime REPL

  I want to use the functions in the clojure.contrib.trace namespace in slime at the REPL. How can I get slime to load them automatically? A related question, how can I add a specific namespace into a running repl? On the clojure.contrib API it describes usage like this: (ns my-namespace (:require clojure.contrib.trace)) But adding this to my code results in the file being unable to load with an "Unable to resolve symbol" error for any function from the trace package. I use leiningen 'lein swank' to start the ServerSocket and the project.clj file looks like this (defproject test-project "0.1.0" :description "Connect 4 Agent written in Clojure" :dependencies [[org.clojure/clojure "1.2.0-master-SNAPSHOT"] [org.clojure/clojure-contrib "1.2.0-SNAPSHOT"]] :dev-dependencies [[leiningen/lein-swank "1.2.0-SNAPSHOT"] [swank-clojure "1.2.0"]]) Everything seems up to date, i.e. 'lein deps' doesn't produce any changes.   Even with just my text editor open (no web browser) and maybe the terminal, the baseline temperature is usually above 40 C. When i open 4-5 browser tabs in Safari (even if none of Sites have Flash) the temp can quickly go over 50 C. (In addition, i am observing these temps even though i have turned the fan up to 3000 rpms). (i have install smcFanControl on my MBA so i can see the temp in the menu bar.) So this means my MBA is running much warmer than my MBP; and in practice, it means that i have to be very careful how i use my MBA. Of course if i load a Site with Flash, it just freaks out, and often quickly goes above 65 C (I've installed a flash blocker to avoid this). Is anyone else observing this behavior? I have checked the Apple boards and sure enough, there are a lot of complaints, but nothing from Apple.

• Core dump utility for .NET

  In my past life as a COBOL mainframe developer I made extensive use of a tool called Abendaid which, in the event of an exception, would give me a complete memory dump including a formatted list of every variable in memory as well as a complete stack trace of the program with the offending statement highlighted. This made pinpointing the cause of an error much simpler and saved a lot of step-through debugging and/or trace statements. Now I've made the transition to C# and .NET web development I find that the information provided by ASP.NET only tells half the story, giving me a stack trace, but not any of the variable or class information. This makes debugging more difficult as you then have to run the process again with the debugger to try and reproduce the error, not easy with intermittent errors or with assemblies that run under the likes of SQL Server or CRM. I've looked around quite a lot for something that does this but I can't find anything obvious. Does anyone have any idea if there is one, or if not, what I'd need to start with in order to write one?

• Why many "normal" string in my flashlog file

I am very confused by this, I thought that the output of the flashlog.txt file should be the same as that of the consul of FlashBuilder.And I don't think I have added such a stupid trace in my code. The question is how can I find out where these "normal" trace come from and how to remove it. This problem is resolved by restarting the computer as suggested.

• Switching PHP to FastCGI from mod_php broke AMFPHP

  Hi, i've just switched my debian server from mod_php to fastcgi following this tutorial everything goes right but now i've found that one of the hosted application that using AMFPHP for flash remoting is broken. I'm trying to understand what's happend. Looking at it with FireBug and FireAMF it seems that the responses has a content but the Flash callbacks never get called and if i try to open the service browser it displays this error: (mx.rpc::Fault)#0 errorID = 0 faultCode = "Client.Error.RequestTimeout" faultDetail = "The request timeout for the sent message was reached without receiving a response from the server." faultString = "Request timed out" message = "faultCode:Client.Error.RequestTimeout faultString:'Request timed out' faultDetail:'The request timeout for the sent message was reached without receiving a response from the server.'" name = "Error" rootCause = (null) It's strange it seems that the server takes a long time to responde, then (in the service browser) flash made a new call to the server and the old one get a response. • Any reason not to always log stack traces?

  Encountered a frustrating problem in our application today which came down to an ArrayIndexOutOfBounds exception being thrown. The exception's type was just about all that was logged which is fairly useless (but, oh dear legacy app, we still love you, mostly). I've redeployed the application with a change which logs the stack trace on exception handling (and immediately found the root cause of the problem) and wondered why no one else did this before. Do you generally log the stack trace and is there any reason you wouldn't do this? Bonus points if you can explain (why, not how) the rationale behind having to jump hoops in java to get a string representation of a stack trace!

Which is a real shame because set table() needs dataSetLoader to already be set in order to call its load() function. So my question is, is there a way to enforce an order on the calls to the set functions when declaring a component?

• How can I make Ruby rake display the full backtrace on uncaught exception

  As you may know rake swallows the full backtrace on uncaught exception. If I want to have a full backtrace, I need to add the --trace option. I find this very annoying because some of my tasks take long time to run (up to 6 hours), when it crashes I don't have any debugging info. I need to run it again with the --trace. On top of that, the system may not be in the same state as when the error occurred, so it may not show afterward. I always have to add --trace on any tasks. This displasy stuff that I don't want to see when the task is executed. Is there a way to change this default behaviour? (which I don't think is useful at all)

• getting java.lang.OutOfMemoryError exception while running a Midlet (using netbeans)

  I am writing a Midlet(using Netbeans) which reads a file containing exactly 2400 lines (each line being 32 characters long) and (extract a part of each line) puts them in an array. I am doing the same for 11 such files( all files have exactly 2400 lines).The Midlet runs fine for reading 6 files and putting them in 6 arrays. However, the Midlet stops while doing it for the 7th file throwing the following exception: TRACE: , startApp threw an Exception java.lang.OutOfMemoryError (stack trace incomplete) java.lang.OutOfMemoryError (stack trace incomplete) I have tried the modifying the netbeans.conf file to increase the heap memory ( as suggested by many forums and blogs) but nothing works for me. Here are the parameters that i had modified in the netbeans.conf file: -J-Xss2m -J-Xms1024m -J-Xmx1024m -J-XX:PermSize=1024m -J-XX:MaxPermSize=1536m -J-XX:+UseConcMarkSweepGC -J-XX:+CMSClassUnloadingEnabled -J-XX:+CMSPermGenSweepingEnabled Can anyone please help me to get me out of this ! • Map folder as drive permanently in Windows

  Lets say I need to map folder C:/D as drive D: One can use SUBST command to map folder as drive in Windows. SUBST d: C:/D I am absolutely happy how SUBST does the work. So I set this command as a startup task using the task manager. A problem here is that if I have a flash in a USB port while booting Windows, the flash is got mapped as D: and SUBST fails. The question is how to make C:/D to be D: permanently. So other drives (especially flash drives) don't break this during startup. P.S. I know I could set D: to be R: which is unlikely to conflict with other drives. But I would greatly appreciate another answer.

  Recently, I loaned my flash disk to one of my friends, who had Mac OS. He copied a file on it, whose name included a backslash (\). The flash disk is NTFS formatted. Windows does not allow such filenames, and neither opens the file, nor deletes it, nor lets me delete the file. There are naive approaches to this problem, like: Formatting the flash disk; Giving it back to my friend and asking to rename it; Loading into some live Linux and renaming it. However, I'm looking for something more clever, like a program that can do the trick under Windows. PS: There's a tool called NTFSWalker which can browse the MFT records of the NTFS, but is unable to make any changes to them.

• Computer hanged in the middle of bios flashing process

  I have a laptop: Toshiba Satellite c660-17j, today I decided to update BIOS. I've downloaded bios updater from manufacturer's web site, and in the middle of flashing process computer hanged. I was waiting more than 30 minutes, but nothing was changed on the screen, i've tryed to PRESS MORE BUTTONS, but there were no reactions, so i've turned it off by removing battery (all other methods failed, even pressing power button for ~10 secs). After that computer can't start. I understand, that there's MESS in BIOS chip, and it's possible to re-flash it with hardware programmer, but I don't have it. I remember, that on some PCs (even on my eeepc) there was possibility to re-flash bios by inserting usb flash-disk (with .dat file on it, which contained BIOS), and power on PC, while holding some keys combination, then PC was switching to BIOS programming mode and re-flashed BIOS, after that it was possible to boot up normaly. Is there a way to recover computer without hardware programming BIOS chip? p.s. sorry for my english.

  i'm trying to trace the x and y coordinates from within a sprite. i've added a rectangle to the stage: var rect:Rectangle = new Rectangle(10, 10, 200, 200); addChild(rect); adding a Mouse_Move event to the rect, i can trace mouseX and mouseY to receive the coordinates of the stage while moving over the rect, but how do i get the local x and y coordinates? so if i mouse over the very top left of the rect sprite, the mouseX and mouseY return 10 as the global coordinates, but how do i make it return 0 and the local coordinates of the sprite? i assumed localX and localY was what i was looking for, but this doesn't work: function mouseOverTraceCoords(evt:MouseEvent):void { trace(mouseX, mouseY, evt.localX, evt.localY); }
