• windows 7 numlock issues with rdp causes machine to go crazy

  After going through a few rdp sessions to xp machines, when I come back to my local machine it appears some setting has been tripped so every key I type is registered as one of the function/alt keys plus the key I type, causing windows to open and close windows randomly and other erratic behavior. Pressing windows key and numlock returns everything to normal. Any ideas what causes this. I have experienced this on multiple win 7 machines, but never in vista or xp.

  I'm trying to write an backup script that will exclude files over a certain size. My script gives the proper command, but when run within the script it outputs an an error. However if the same command is run manually everything works...??? • can't ssh from mac to windows (running ssh server on cygwin)

  I set up an ssh server on a fresh windows 7 machine using the latest version of cygwin. Disabled the firewall. I can ssh into it from itself, from a different windows box (using winssh), and from a linux vm. In spite of that, I tried to ssh in from two different macs, and neither would let me!   Is the following I will explain possible with a key combination? Here is the image: As you can see, the terminal is the focus window (Front window) and Nautilus is in the background (Back Window). How can I grab a folder or file from Nautilus without loosing focus on the terminal (Without making the terminal go to the background and Nautilus to the front) and drop it in the terminal?. What I want is not to have to ALT+TAB again just to do this. Options like resizing the windows to fit the screen are not what I am looking for. Like in the image, we have a fullscreen window that we want it to stay like that. We can drag the terminal window around but anytime I access the background nautilus window, I should not loose focus on the terminal (It should not go to the background every time I access Nautilus). Maybe like a key combination that freezes the current focus windows positions and I can drag from background windows to background windows or background windows to the front focused one.

• Defining a function that is both a generator and recursive [on hold]

  I am new to python, so this code might not necessarily be clean, it's just for learning purposes. I had the idea of writing this function that would display the tree down the specified path. Then, i added the global variable number_of_py to count how many python files were in that tree. That worked as well. Finally, i decided to turn the whole thing into a generator, but the recursion breaks. My understanding of generators is that once next() is called python just executes the body of the function and "yields" a value until we hit the end of the body. Can someone explain why this doesn't work?   We all know about Enums types and use them every single day. What is not that often used is to decorate the Enum type with the FlagsAttribute. When an Enum type has the FlagsAttribute we can assign multiple values to it and thus combine multiple information into a single enum. The enum values should be a power of two so that a bit set is achieved. • XNA hlsl tex2D() only reads 3 channels from normal maps and specular maps

  Our engine uses deferred rendering and at the main draw phase gathers plenty of data from the objects it draws. In order to save on tex2D calls, we packed our objects' specular maps with all sorts of data, so three out of four channels are already taken. To make it clear: I am talking about the assets that come with the models and are stored in their material's Specular Level channel, not about the RenderTarget. So now I need another information to be stored in the alpha channel, but I cannot make the shader to read it properly! Nomatter what I write into alpha it ends up being 1 (255)! I tried: saving the textures in PNG/TGA formats. turning off pre-computed alpha in model's properties. Out of every texture available to me (we use Diffuse map, Normal Map and Specular Map) I was only able to read alpha successfully from the Diffuse Map!   I am trying to make an ahk for putty to send the keycodes that I want for some key combinations in order for my program to work over terminal too. For this I have an ahk already with some key combinations working properly by experimenting awfully much time from here and there, from key tables, etc but I still don't get, did not came up with a clear, logical method to calculate the escape key that I want. An example: ^F1::SendInput ^[O5P It gives 28 in my test prog. I see that for ^[1 I get 377 and for ^[2 376... and I see that there can be used letters out of the hexa numbers (A-F) and also ; and ~ or double [[ Do you understand how this works? Any good descriptive material for this? Thanks a lot!

  How can I find out which keyboard shortcuts are defined inside the Start menu? And what shortcuts they are assigned to? Platform: Windows XP SP2 64 bit. Example: I open my main Visual Studio solution with a shortcut key, Ctrl+Alt+M. This is setup by having a shortcut inside the Start menu with: Target: "D:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\IDE\devenv.exe" D:\dproj\MSQall\MSQuant\MSQuant.sln Shortcut key: Ctrl+ALT+M If a new shortcut is added and its shortcut key is also set to Ctrl+Alt+M then there are now two shortcuts with the same shortcut key (conflict). To prevent this it would be nice to know which shortcut keys are already assigned and to which shortcuts.

• How to push to github from a server account with multiple users?

  We have a web server which contains a web application stored as a github project. Now all of us can push from our local machines to github and then pull on the server but sometimes we want to make small changes and immediately see the effect so it would be great to be able to push at the server too. Now I created an ssh key for the server but I don't want to add the servers ssh key to my github account because then all github actions done from the server are counted to my account. Is it possible to add the ssh key to the github web application project without creating a new user for the server and what is the best practice for this situation? I also don't want to copy my private key to the server obviously.

  On my Debian Linux machine Ctrl+Alt+F1 is bound to a virtual terminal. I can see the corresponding entry by running xmodmap -pke keycode 67 = F1 XF86_Switch_VT_1 F1 XF86_Switch_VT_1 Per this thread, which I might add is consistent with what I've read elsewhere, the columns on the right hand side of = correspond to key, Shift+key, AltGr+key and Shift+AltGr+key. Given that, I don't understand how the keycode mapping for F1 (above) works for Ctrl+Alt+F1. It seems it should really be either Shift+F1 or Shift+AltGr+F1?   I can connect to an OpenVPN server from Windows without any problems.   Hi, I have the ubntun machine... under my /home/user/.ssh i have my id_rsa.pub key... i carefully copied that key and paste my key to respository Git account. After that i try to connect from locat system to my git respository i got the following error warning: Authentication failed. Disconnected; no more authentication methods available (No further authentication methods available.). . I removed SSH in system and re-enable and did agin.. but no luck.... I have no idea what's happening with my SSH key ....can any one please tell me on this... Note : i noticed in my home /home/user/.ssh && /home/user/.ssh2

• How to re-map command and option keys on Mac OS X with a PC-keyboard ?

  Hi, in my keyboard the command key is mapped to the windows key (I'm using a regular PC keyboard) so I only have a left command, because the space on the right is occupied by the useless Fn key. I've used Ukelele and also edited keyboard mappings but that's for printable characters, doesn't actually allow you to map modifier keys on the keyboard. Thanks!

• What kind of SSL Cert do I need and where do I get it?

  I want to have subdomains with SSL within my domain. The main difference is that each subdomain is hosted by a different person with a different public key/private key pair. Let me illustrate with an example: User send his public key and requests subdomain from foo.com User is added and assigned subdomain bar (bar.foo.com). Users public key is stored for future validation against bar.foo.com User goes to bar.foo.com and see's a validated SSL connection. From what I gather, this means that I need to create a CA, which is fine. The problem is that from what I recall, a CA needs a special sort of SSL Cert. How do I go about getting this?

• Where does ubuntu store keyboard shortcut settings?

  I'm having trouble setting a keyboard shortcut in Ubuntu. Trying to use the win (super) key as a modifier, but as soon as I press the win key the keyboard shortcut UI just assumes I wanted to use just that key. I figure the easiest thing would be to modify the settings file itself, where I should be able to put in whatever I want. But I can't figure out where that's stored. Does anyone know?
