  I ordered a new computer with 8GB RAM with the plan to run Windows 7, 64Bit. Turns out now, that I need to run a 32Bit OS (XP or 7) due to some software which does not run on 64Bit yet (not even with any of the available compatibility settings / modes). Is there anything I can do with the memory above 4GB in this scenario? I'm willing to consider creative solutions like running a hypervisor under XP that offers the memory as a RAM-Disk for swapping etc. ? The software that does not run on 64Bit is CISCO VPN (there seems to be a half-working solution for that) and CISCO IP phone / webcam integration "CISCO Unified Video Advantage" (there is apparently no solution for that).

• I have a perl script that is supposed to run indefinitely. It's being killed... how do I determine who or what kills it?

  I run the perl script in screen (I can log in and check debug output). Nothing in the logic of the script should be capable of killing it quite this dead. I'm one of only two people with access to the server, and the other guy swears that it isn't him (and we both have quite a bit of money riding on it continuing to run without a hitch). I have no reason to believe that some hacker has managed to get a shell or anything like that. I have very little reason to suspect the admins of the host operation (bandwidth/cpu-wise, this script is pretty lightweight). Screen continues to run, but at the end of the output of the perl script I see "Killed" and it has dropped back to a prompt. How do I go about testing what is whacking the damn thing? I've checked crontab, nothing in there that would kill random/non-random processes. Nothing in any of the log files gives any hint. It will run from 2 to 8 hours, it would seem (and on my mac at home, it will run well over 24 hours without a problem). The server is running Ubuntu version something or other, I can look that up if it matters.

In specific, I'm inheriting from a class that has a property declared like this: virtual public Int32 Value { get; set; } What I'd like to do is to override it and do something useful in those set and get's. The problem appears when I override it, I also have to manually assign, or return the value from the property. Is there a way to set or get the value without invoking the code in set and get, or do I have to make a separate name for the actual variable?

So a total of 658 pictures. I want to be able to run each of these pictures through a .exe file that operates on the picture then kicks out the file to a file specified by the user, it also has some threshold arguments: lower, upper. So the typical call for the executable is: ./filter inputfile outputfile lower upper Is there a way that I can loop this call over all the files just from the terminal or by creating some kind of bash script?   I have a large file (wikipedia english arcticles only database as xml file) I am using to read one character at a time using BufferedReader. The psuedo code is: file = BufferedReader... while (file.ready()) character = file.read() is this actually valid? Or will ready just return false when it is waiting for the HDD to return data and not actually when the EOF has been reached? I tried to use if (file.read() == -1) but seemed to run into an infinite loop that I literally could not find. I am just wondering if it is reading the whole file as my statistics say 444 380 wikipedia pages have been read but I thought there were many more articles..
