  hello friends I have a samsung netbook n102sp atom processor 1.6, 2GB ddr3 ram and a intel 3150hd chiset chart, well the problem is the following the regular work pc has audio, lan, wi-fi reconose the video but I only lansa the resolution of 800 x 600 and I can not upload that's in the details of the computer I get into graphics (VESA: Intel ® Graphics XX) and I can not see videos because they only hear the audio and I use the vlc player I investigate intel 3150hd drivers and try to install layered but I was not please someone help me because it's an ugly work 800 x 600 and I can not see videos please, if anyone knows how to install the driver from Intel that are on the web please guide me when applied dpkg-s xserver-xorg-video-intel tells me that this driver installed ( XvMC "XVideo Motion Compensation" drivers for i810/i815 and i9xx and newer chipsets.)

• Getting error-'General Error Mounting Filesystems' while installing ubuntu 12.04 alongside Windows 7 starter edition

  I am trying to install Ubuntu 12.04 on my HP Mini 110 with 2 gb of ram and Windows 7 starter edition. However, when I try to boot from USB, the Ubuntu screen loads and then shows the message-'General Error Mounting Filesystem'. I have to press Ctrl+D to reboot, and the same process starts again until I remove my pen drive. I have tried making a Live USB from UNetBootin and the software Ubuntu suggests, downloaded from pendrivelinux.com. However, Ubuntu still won't load. I am new to the Ubuntu world and don't know what to do, please help.

  I noticed that sometimes when browsing (with other processes in the background), I get very high CPU load for the browser process (over 100%) and the computer becomes really slow. I tried switching from Firefox (with just a few extensions) to Chromium, but same thing happens without me visiting graphics-intense sites, flash sites or anything like that. I also noticed python or node (when running "make") produce the same high CPU load from time to time so this is not necessarily browser-related. When I only have a browser open, it doesn't seem to happen and everything is fine in Windows 7. I switched from unity to gnome3 with no effect. Specs: lenovo w510 (4gb RAM, i7 q820 @ 1.73) + up to date Ubuntu 14.04 64bit. Printscreen: http://imgur.com/8MZJNKC Do you guys have any idea why this might happen?   In order to lengthen the lifespan of my machine I am replacing the weakest link, the hard drive and installing a new OS. I had planned on using xp pro as my virtualbox host and ubuntu as guest. After messing with ubuntu desktop and server I am really impressed and am thinking of reversing the virtualbox setup; ubuntu host xp guest. I would use XP for Adobe Fireworks, Netflix, and iTunes (maybe) that's pretty much it. Any reason not to do ubuntu host with xp guest? I know the xp vbox will run slower as a guest but really how much slower? It's a desktop. 4gb ram, 500gb disk, Pent D 3.2 ghz

  UsING Toporesize-0.7.1 FLash drive is Transcent I want to add all unused space to casper-rw. Disk=3.72GB 2.68 used 1.GB casper-rw=1.95GB caspe=681MG I boot UBUNTU 11.10 64bit and see that size of HOME is about half of casper-rw It is working from flash drive ok. But I was not able to boot 11.10 64bit using USB 3.0 HDD. UBUNTU 11.10 32 bit on usb 2.0 HDD works ok ( currently multiboot with openSUSE) FUDUNTU 2012 on usb 3.0 hdd VERY FAST. Fast USB 3.0 8GB unit is ready. partitioned. Second part is labeled as casper-rw. Will try to install using partitions as base and home.No swap since I have 8GB ram. ANY SUGGESTION? Thanks

• Ubuntu Slows down over time?

  About a few months ago I was using Ubuntu (doing something in the command line) when it started lagging really bad. I would hit S (or any other key) and like 20 seconds later it would show up in my terminal. Naturally I killed the machine and rebooted. The system started working just fine, but about 30 minutes later it did the same thing. Now I'm forced to use Ubuntu in 30 minute spurts. I've looked at my running processes and none of them are taking large amounts of CPU or RAM. Luckily I've dual-booted so I could still use my machine. Now I need to get this fixed and I'm wondering what my options are. Will I be forced to do a fresh install or is there another way?

  My friend has a really slow 2 yr old Toshiba netbook with 1GB of RAM. She is annoyed how slow Windows Starter runs on it so I suggested switching to Ubuntu. Since 12.10 is due in a few days, I'm not sure if we should wait before installing Ubuntu or if we should install it now in order to use Unity 2D. For a low-end device, should we use Unity 2D or use Unity 3D on 12.10 since Unity 2D is no longer present in 12.10? I understand Unity 3D has been greatly improved but is it faster than Unity 2D in the LTS version for a low-spec'd device?

  Webmaster Newbie Question I have a low end vps (128MB RAM)running on Debian.I used a bash script by ilevkov to setup the site. After some trial and error, I managed to set up a WordPress on it. Just now I found out that my VPS can't send any email. I tested using the WordPress reset password email, and it shows The e-mail could not be sent. Possible reason: your host may have disabled the mail() function... After some Google session I noticed that I can send email from ssh. So I tried mail [email protected] Subject: Halo dion some message . and the result said EOT /usr/lib/sendmail: No such file or directory "/root/dead.letter" 9/243 . . . message not sent. The question How can I fix my VPS mail setting?

• Bastion unexpectedly exits when I move my cursor

  I downloaded the Humble Indie Bundle V, mostly because my friend told me about how great Bastion was. When I first installed it, I was getting the seemingly common "black screen" error that most people got (fixed that half with this http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=11992661). But I also have an error where every time I move my cursor, in any direction, any amount, the game closes instantly. I can use the keyboard no problem, but without fail, every time I move my mouse, it crashes. Does anyone know what might be causing this? Has anyone encountered anything like this before? I am worried it may be a hardware issue, but hoping someone might be able to help me out. I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 on a Dell Studio 1558. Graphics card is the stock Intel graphics card, running on 4 GB of RAM.

• Postfix and tmpfs for /var/spool

  My main disk is an SSD so in order to preserve its lifetime by reducing writes I followed some advice and made /var/spool a ram disk by adding this line to /etc/fstab: tmpfs /var/spool tmpfs defaults,noatime,mode=1777 0 0 Later I configured postfix because I have a RAID array on my system and mdadm wants to send me email if the RAID array fails which sounds like a fine idea. Email sending worked fine until I rebooted, at which point: postfix: fatal: open /etc/postfix-out/main.cf: No such file or directory The fix for this is apparently: mkdir /var/spool/postfix postfix check Then I found I also had to do: mkfifo /var/spool/postfix/public/pickup service postfix restart Now sending emails works fine...until the next reboot. So: what is the most correct way to recreate the contents of /var/spool/postfix automatically at boot time if it does not exist? I am using Ubuntu Server 12.04.

• Bootable USB drive won't run installation

  I am having issues installing 12.10 on a laptop from bootable USB Drive 4GB FAT32. Also I changed order on BIOS to boot from USB. But only I see is the black screen with SYSLINUX 4.06 EDD 4.06-pre7 Copyright (C) 1994-2012 H. Peter Anvin et al _ I tried to install 12.10 into my older laptop using the same bootable USB drive just to be sure, and it's all works fine! I have also trying different USB drives, but results were the same. So it looks like there is nothing wrong with my bootable USB drives. Something is wrong with my laptop, but I can't figure out what exactly, because it's very new and Windows7 boots and runs just great. I Googled but found nothing useful. My laptop is really a small one: Acer AOD270 Protcessor: Intel(R) Atom(TM) CPU N26OO 1.60 GHz RAM: 1 GB Windows 7 Starter 32 bit It has no CD drive Any help would be really appreciated please.

• Purple Screen then Black Screen while Booting from CD or Windows Install

  Whenever I try to run Ubuntu from my internal CD drive, I see this screen minus the Ubuntu Text: Then the screen goes black, not even the internal light stays on. Sometimes it restarts itself, other times the black screen is indefinite until I restart the laptop myself. I'm on an HP Quad-Core AMD A8-3500M APU with 8 GB RAM and a Radeon AMD 6620g Discrete-Graphics Card. (HP dv6-6145dx) This is my first time using Linux, I am not too technically-inclined so any simplification would be welcomed. I am good at following technical instructions though which is how I was able to partition my hard drive and change the boot order to allow the internal CD drive first. Thanks in advance!

• Best memory allocation strategy for iOS ?

  Hey guys, I'm debating myself about memory allocation on iOS. I write most of my code in C++ and I really like using ObjectPools, FreeLists, etc. In order to pre-allocate a lot of the stuff that I'll be constantly "alloc/dealloc" during the course of my game, ( like particles, game entities, etc ). Still on iOS, it's not like we are developing for a console like PSP, where I can know for fact that I'll get a fixed amount of memory. iOS , will issue "memory warnings" when the system needs memory. Does anyone have some suggestions about this ? Is it too serious since the new iPod touch/iPhone 4 are carrying more RAM ? or it's still a big concern ? Thanks!

• Why is ubuntu so sluggish?

  I have noticed the trend that ubuntu is getting increasingly slower with each release. It used to be much faster than windows, but now it is really much slower. I have an Asus G74Sx with an i7 processor, 8Gb of RAM, and an Nvidia Geforce GTX 560M graphics card. I am currently using ubuntu 12.10, but will probably be going back to 12.04. Ubuntu is running as the native operating system. There is really no reason for terminal to take more than 25 seconds to open. I love all of the stuff behind ubuntu, what it stands for and everything, but I need to at least be able to open gedit without waiting 3 minutes for it to open. Sorry if this sounds like a rant, but I would really like to know what is going on and if there is anything I can do to get Ubuntu running at a more appropriate speed.

• WebCenter Customer Advisory Board meetings kick off Oracle Open World 2012!

  Welcome to OpenWorld! OpenWorld 2012 got underway today with a series of meetings with the members of the WebCenter Customer Advisory Board. Led by the WebCenter Product Management team, these meetings are a great way for the product team and customers to directly interact and discuss real-life business challenges, product details and to discuss upcoming features and functionality. This year, board members participated in discussions around live demos around product enhancements that will be featured throughout the coming week. Highlights included a variety of new mobile and social solutions, a great new user interface for WebCenter Content plus new Portal and Sites functionality that makes the experience for the everyday user a lot more pleasant. The day kicked off with Roel Stalman, VP of Product Management, giving a detailed overview of what’s new in WebCenter. Given all the improvements to discuss, this session went over 2 hours! Roel showcased the brand new UI for Content, Portal and Sites. He also gave live demos of the new mobile apps for WebCenter Content, Portal and the Oracle Social Network.  The attendees then broke into sub-groups in order to deep-dive with Product Management for the Portal, Sites, and Content product areas on specific functionality and application integrations. • The biggest ADF conference "down under"

  While Oracle Open World is the place to be for ADF presentations, for Aussies living in Perth, San Francisco is a tad far away (believe me from experience, the 23hrs flight from PER-SYD-SFO is tedious).  That's why I'm very excited to see that the Australian Oracle User Group at this year's Perth conference is running its largest set of ADF presentation to date: 5! Okay, it doesn't compare to the 60 ADF sessions at OOW, but it's a small conference of around 300 people that runs for 2 days with 54 sessions total, not 40000 people that runs for 5 days with 1900+ sessions, so I think that's a good effort for a conference that's at the end of the earth! • Speaking at MySQL Connect 2012

  At the end of September, the MySQL Connect 2012 conference will be held as part of Oracle OpenWorld in San Francisco. MySQL Connect is a two day event that allows attendees to focus on MySQL at a technical depth with presentations and interaction with many of the MySQL developers, engineers and other knowledgeable staff. There is also a range a international speakers to give broader knowledge to the presentations. I am presenting a Hands-On Lab on Sunday 30th September 16:15 - 17:15 entitled HOL10474 - MySQL Security: Authentication and Auditing. The sessions goes through an introduction to the plugin API and how it can help expand the capabilities of MySQL. Since it is a hands-on lab, attendees will use practical examples of implementing simple plugins to get a start in developing their own plugins. These plugin examples are based around implementing PAM authentication and how it can be utilized to offer greater security for the MySQL Server. Once the authentication has been tested, a method to monitor it will be implemented using the auditing API and logging different events as they happen in the service. • Advice for Storing and Displaying Dates and Times Across Different Time Zones

  A common question I receive from clients, colleagues, and 4Guys readers is for recommendations on how best to store and display dates and times in a data-driven web application. One of the challenges in storing and displaying dates in a web application is that it is quite likely that the visitors arriving at your site are not in the same time zone as your web server; moreover, it's very likely that your site attracts visitors from many different time zones from around the world. Consider an online messageboard site, like ASPMessageboard.com, where each of 1,000,000+ posts includes the date and time it was made. Imagine a user from New York leaves a post on April 7th at 4:30 PM and that the web server hosting the site is located in Dallas, Texas, which is one hour earlier than New York. When storing that post to the database do you record the post's date and time relative to the visitor (4:30 PM), the relative to the web server (3:30 PM), or some other value? And when displaying this post how do you show that date and time to a reader in San Francisco, which is three hours earlier than New York? Do you show the time relative to the person who made the post (4:30 PM), relative to the web server (3:30 PM), or relative to the user (1:30 PM)? And if you decide to store or display the date based on the poster's or visitor's time zone then how do you know their time zone and its offset? How do you account for daylight savings, and so on? My partitions are: C: Windows8 90GB NTFS D: Blank 25GB FAT32 E: Entertainment 117GB NTFS F: Other 117GB NTFS G: Software 117GB NTFS Now, I've made flash drive for Ubuntu 13.04 and want to install on D: I've tried a lot to install on that partition but every time I got error of No mount point selected. But actually I've selected / as mount point. So please help me to solve this problem. and also suggest me what to do for /home. Note: I want to access windows 8 as my main operating system.

  I'm currently developing the software for a measurement and control system. In addition to the usual SCPI interface I'd also give it a nice HTTP frontend. Now I don't want to reinvent the wheel all over again. I already have a simple HTTPD running, but I don't want to implement all the other stuff. So what I'm looking for is a web application toolkit targeted at embedded system development. In particular this has to run on a ARM Cortex-M4, and I have some 8k of RAM available for this. It must be written in C. Is there such a thing or do I have to implement this myself?
