• Excessive clock drift on AMD Athlon prevents ntpd from synchronizing clock.

  I've got an AMD Athlon XP-2500+ host running 32-bit Ubuntu 9.10 (i686 2.6.31-20-generic kernel). Unfortunately, it appears that the clock drift on it is so bad (it advances close to an extra second every minute) that ntpd can't keep the machine in sync. How do I deal with this so I can get ntpd working?

• What hardware specs do I need to run Apache/PHP and SVN?

  I want to build a linux machine to use as a test server (LAMP) and use SVN on it. I am thinking maybe Ubantu as the OS but what hardware specs would I need. I think the entire site is less than a gig but if SVN is going to keep multiple versions than wouldnt I need a huge hard drive? Any tips would be nice. Thanks!!

  For administrative purposes, I sometimes need to log in as another user to diagnose a problem with their account. I'd like to be able to do this without having to change their password so I don't have to keep bothering them. Under Unix, I can just save the encrypted password from the passwd file, change the password, then edit the old encrypted password back into the passwd file. Is there a way of doing something similar in AD?

• WinSCP clobbers permission & group on replace

  Is there a way to tell winscp to keep the group and permission of my upload file? I am tired of modifying webpages/webapp binaries and needing to change the group to www-data so the server can read them. If not what app might i use instead? I mostly use winscp for the easy of copy/pasting files onto my linux server and the ease of browsing the filesystem (can go between 2+ folders in a second, no typos)

  id appreciate any help in this matter this is in laptop with 2 harddrive bays. i have a wd scorpio that has become 2 small its bootable with windows 7, i have pretty new 3 months old hitachi hd500gb i was using for storage-backup of programs it is not bootable and id like to make it that way without losing saved backed up info on it is there any way to do this, id like to keep only 500gb bootable hard drive due to weight of laptop its 10.lbs desktop replacement gateway p-7805u thanks for your help in advance on this matter, tommy

  Possible Duplicate: How do you do Load Testing and Capacity Planning for Web Sites I've seen tutorials saying they can run decent websites on 64MB RAM (Debian/Lighttpd/PHP/MySQL) however it's not clearly defined how much hits/traffic a "decent" site gets. Is there a rule of thumb on how much RAM a web server needs? To keep things simple, let's say you're running a site with static content and it's averaging at 100,000 hits per hour (HTML + images combined, no MySQL). How much RAM is the minimum requirement for that?

• Executing a command in vim from a commandline

• In utf-8 collation, why 11- is less then 1- ?

  I found that the sort result in ASCII: 1- 11- and in UTF-8: 11- 1- I feel it's so counter-intuitive, and it's not dictionary order. Isn't the character '-' (002d) is always less then [0-9] (0030-0039)? What's the general rule in UTF-8 collation? And how to bypass it, just make - be less then [0-9] while keep other characters unchanged for UTF-8, in Linux? (So it can affects the result of ls --sort, sort, etc. )

  I had to throw a machine together in a bit of a hurry- to replace a machine that suddenly failed (no one had bothered to keep a "warm" backup) It has Windows Server 2008 and SQL 2008 The snag is, I installed them off our MSDN subscription media, due to me not having "licensed" software. I need to put this machine into production. We are in the process of buying the licenses from a MS reseller now. Is there a way to "convert" the MSDN license to production on both Windows Server and SQL?

• Is my external hard drive dying?

  I keep getting this error lately when I try to copy large (200+ MB) files over to my external. Following this, the disk becomes unresponsive and I got to unplug it and plug it in again to work. The copy process also is unreasonably slow. It is worth noting that this happens on Windows too, so it's not the notorious "Error -36" bug OS X had prior to 10.6.3. The disk is a Western Digital 3200BMV. Any ideas?

  hi, i'm having a strange problem with photoshop: i'm creating a new layer then use the path tool for drawing something. the new path will then only show up under "paths" but the current layer remains empty. shouldn't it show up there being labelled as "shape"? what i want is creating a path, apply layer styles to it and keep the possibilty to change that path with layer styles applied. seems like some setting was changed inside my cs4 thanks

  On Linux, we can simply do: cp -pr directory How to do that in Windows? Can it be done in Windows Explorer? Any GUI tool suggestions? It would be the best if I can keep the NTFS permissions and creation/modification/access time. At a minimum, I need to preserve the modification date for the files and the directories. Windows Explorer's copy does not preserve the modification date for directories.

  I use SyncbackSE on Windows to back up files between two hard drives daily. Every time the application starts, it scans every single file in the directories that it watches before copying files that were added or modified. To improve performance, I was wondering if there were a Windows backup application that would hook into Windows to keep tracks of files that were added/modified in given directories, so that it only needs to go through this list when it comes time for a backup. • 'No volume found' on Windows 7 VM (VHD), can I get anything back?

  The worst possible situation... Despite my vigilence doing backups, and trying to keep my PC secure, one of my VMs disk seems to be wiped out. Using the VHD tool from R1Soft (HyperV VHD Explorer), when I attach the VHD, it says no volumes found so it looks like something wiped out the VHD (which it still its original size). It seems that something has sneaked through whatever security I have/had and has wreaked havoc. Can I recover anything from this?

  I have a network mapped like this : just to experiment IPv6 connectivity, i want to configure my LAN network using IPv6, can some one explain me how to convert the connection between the Desktop and the Laptop to IPv6 without loosing the internet connection ?   In Thunderbird the global gloda search is connected to the selection of downloaded/syncronized folders of the IMAP accounts in the Offline-settings.   If I see an email returned due to a hard bounce, after how many days is it acceptable to resend to that email address. It is possible for emails to be reactivated or for temporary outages, so it doesn't make sense to keep an email in my hard bounce email list forever. I've already seen cases where I receive emails from addresses that were put in my hard bounce email list months ago. Any recommendations? Are there specific recommendations from ISPs?
