  • Getting rsync to move file from source to destination ?

    Is rsync is a good choice for my project ? I have to : - copy files from source to destination folder via SSH, - be sure all files are copied, - delete source files after copy. - if I have conflict name, I have to rename files. It looks like I can use option : --remove-source-files (to delete source files) But how rsync manage conflict, can I had rules ? Use case on my project : I run scientific calculation on server A and results are inserted in folder "process", for each calculation I have a repository like this : /process/calc1. Now I would like to transfer repository "/calc1" to server B (I get /process/calc1), and delete "calc1" from server A. ...During another calculation I get "/process/calc2" on server A, the idea is also to move "calc2" in "/process/" directory on server B, then I have now on server B : - /process/calc1 - /process/calc2 (and /process/ on server A is empty). How rsync will manage conflict (on server B) if I have another folder like "/process/calc1" in server A after a new calculation (if "/process/calc1" already exist on server B) ? Is it possible to add rules with rsync, and rename "/process/calc1" by "process/calc1R2" in server B ? And so on (ex:calc1R3) ? Thanks.

  • Is Visual Source Safe (The latest Version) really that bad? Why? What's the Best Alternative? Why? [closed]

    Over the years I've constantly heard horror stories, had people say "Real Programmers Dont Use VSS", and so on. BUT, then in the workplace I've worked at two companies, one, a very well known public facing high traffic website, and another high end Financial Services "Web-Based" hosted solution catering to some very large, very well known companies, which is where I currently Reside and everything's working just fine (KNOCK KNOCK!!). I'm constantly interfacing with EXTREMELY Old technology with some of these financial institutions.. OLD LIKE YOU WOULDN'T BELIEVE.. which leads me to the conclusion that if it works "LEAVE IT", and that maybe there's some value in old technology? at least enough value to overrule a rewrite!? right?? Is there something fundamentally flawed with the underlying technology that VSS uses? I have a feeling that if i said "someone said VSS Sucks" they would beg to differ, most likely give me this look like i dont know -ish, and I'd never gain back their respect and my credibility (well, that'll be hard to blow.. lol), BUT, give me an argument that I can take to someone whose been coding for 30 years, that builds Platforms that leverage current technology (.NET 3.5 / SQL 2008 R2 ), write's their own ORM with scaffolding and is able to provide a quality platform that supports thousands of concurrent users on a multi-tenant hosted solution, and does not agree with any benefits from having Source Control Integrated, and yet uses the Infamous Visual Source Safe. I have extensive experience with TFS up to 2010, and honestly I think it's great when a team (beyond developers) can embrace it. I've worked side by side with someone whose a die hard SVN'r and from a purist standpoint, I see the beauty in it (I need a bit more, out of my SS, but it surely suffices). So, why are such smarties not running away from Visual Source Safe? surely if it was so bad, it would've have been realized by now, and I would not be sitting here with this simple old, Check In, Check Out, Version Resistant, Label Intensive system. But here I am... I would love to drop an argument that would be the end all argument, but if it's a matter of opinion and personal experience, there seems to be too much leeway for keeping VSS. UPDATE: I guess the best case is to have the VSS supporters check other people's experiences and draw from that until we (please no) experience the breaking factor ourselves. Until then, i wont be engaging in a discussion to migrate off of VSS.. UPDATE 11-2012: So i was able to convince everyone at my work place that since MS is sun downing Visual Source Safe it might be time to migrate over to TFS. I was able to convince them and have recently upgraded our team to Visual Studio 2012 and TFS 2012. The migration was fairly painless, had to run analyze.exe which found a bunch of errors (not sure they'll ever affect the project) and then manually run the VSSConverter.exe. Again, painless, except it took 16 hours to migrate 5 years worth of everything.. and now we're on TFS.. much more integrated.. much more cooler.. so all in all, VSS served it's purpose for years without hick-up. There were no horror stories and Visual Source Save as source control worked just fine. so to all the nay sayers (me included). there's nothing wrong with using VSS. i wouldnt start a new project with it, and i would definitely consider migrating to TFS. (it's really not super difficult and a new "wizard" type converter is due out any day now so migrating should be painless). But from my experience, it worked just fine and got the job done.

  • How can I get PHP to compile a LaTeX document if it (www-data) can't get access to the required packages?

    I have a PHP script that compiles LaTeX documents with the use of: exec('cd /path/to/doc && /usr/bin/latexmk -pdf filename.tex'); This is working for some of my LaTeX documents but my latest document doesn't compile and a look at the log reveals: !pdfTeX error: pdflatex (file ecrm1000): Font ecrm1000 at 600 not found ==> Fatal error occurred, no output PDF file produced! Which I have found is the result of LaTeX not being able to see the required font packages. When I run the same compile command under my username the document compiles as it should. So my question is, how can I get PHP (executing as www-data) to get access to the necessary LaTeX packages? I have tried installing the required package under the www-data account using: sudo -u www-data sudo apt-get install texlive-fonts-recommended but it askes for www-data's password, which I don't believe was set by me and isn't anything I've thrown at it. I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 if it's any help.

    Recently when I have found good sources packages for ghc 6.12/6.10 on Hackage I've been forced to do some minor or major changes to the cabal files to make those packages to work under windows. Besides to fork and merge my fixes with github, what seems to be the best way/ good enough practice to take these modified builds to a couple of other windows boxes that only has a basic haskell platform installed? I should prefer if I somehow could work with the cabal-install because that is what one normally use. Should one put the modfied build dirs on a shared/networked dir and mount from the targeted windows box? Say something like this: on machine prepare cabal fetch foo cabal unpack foo cd foo edit .cabal and .hs cabal configure cabal build On machine useanddevelopnormal cd machinepreparemount cd foo cabal install

Or am I missing som basic concept here?

    Alright, so recently I was using Notepad++ for all of my programming needs, but I've started using Eclipse for larger-scale Java projects now. I decided to pick up an old project of mine which used various classes within the "javax.xml.*" namespaces. When I was compiling and running the program with Notepad++ it worked just fine, however Eclipse can't seem to find these packages. My question is this, since I obviously have the classes somewhere within my current installation of JDK 6 (since I had no problems when using Notepad++), where can I find the location of the .JAR file(s) that include these namespaces/classes so that I can add them to my Eclipse project?   • How to handle added input data colums without having to maintain multiple versions of SSIS packages?

    I’m writing to solicit ideas for a solution to an upcoming problem. The product that provides data to our ETL process currently has multiple versions. Our clients are all using some version of the product, but not all use the same version and they will not all be upgraded at the same time. As new versions of the product are rolled out, the most common change is to add new data columns. Columns being dropped or renamed may happen occasionally, but our main focus right now is how to handle new columns being added. The problem that we want to address is how to handle the data for clients who use an older version of the product. If we don’t account for the new columns in our SSIS packages, then the data in those columns for clients using an older product version will not be processed. What we want to avoid is having to maintain a separate version of the SSIS packages for each version of the product. Has anyone successfully implemented a solution for this situation?

  • Prevent your Silverlight XAP file from caching in your browser.

    If you work with Silverlight daily then you have run into this problem. Your XAP file has been cached in your browser and you have to empty your browser cache to resolve it. If your using Google Chrome then you typically do the following: Go to Options –> Clear Browsing History –> Empty the Cache and finally click Clear Browsing data. As you can see, this is a lot of unnecessary steps. It is even worse when you have a customer that says, “I can’t see the new features you just implemented!” and you realize it’s a cached xap problem.  I have been struggling with a way to prevent my XAP file from caching inside of a browser for a while now and decided to implement the following solution. If the Visual Studio Debugger is attached then add a unique query string to the source param to force the XAP file to be refreshed. If the Visual Studio Debugger is not attached then add the source param as Visual Studio generates it. This is also in case I forget to remove the above code in my production environment. I want the ASP.NET code to be inline with my .ASPX page. (I do not want a separate code behind .cs page or .vb page attached to the .aspx page.) Below is an example of the hosting code generated when you create a new Silverlight project. If you view the page source of your Silverlight Application then you can verify it worked properly by looking at the param name = “source” tag as shown below. <param name="source" value="ClientBin/SilverlightApplication2.xap?634299001187160148" /> If the debugger is not attached then it will use the standard source tag as shown below. <param name="source" value="ClientBin/SilverlightApplication2.xap"/> At this point you may be asking, How do I prevent my XAP file from being cached on my production app? Well, you have two easy options: 1) I really don’t recommend this approach but you can force the XAP to be refreshed everytime with the following code snippet.  <param name="source" value="ClientBin/SilverlightApplication2.xap?<%=Guid.NewGuid().ToString() %>"/> NOTE: You could also substitute the “Guid.NewGuid().ToString() for anything that create a random field. (I used DateTime.Now.Ticks earlier). 2) Another solution that I like even better involves checking the XAP Creation Date and appending it to the param name = source.     The situation in all its glory: 30 megs for ATIs' "Display Driver Only". Almost 100 megs for NVidias' GeForce/Ion bloatware. 300 megs for an HP printer driver with immense amount of crap 30 megs for a Realtek integrated sound card driver. 50 megs for a mouse driver ...and dozens and dozens of other similar examples Additinally, UI/UX on vendors' sites is really terrible: I have to carefully pick and choose the exact model of my whatever, although this packages do contain drivers for pretty much every possible hardware model out there. My question is: How and where can I download true minimal drivers without all these ATI "Installation Managers", Realtek GUIs, ASUS tools, etc.?

Needs to be open-source or have a license level that grants access to source, and needs to be ASP.net (C# preferred, but could live with VB.net) Ultimately, we'll need to be able to assign facilities and instructors, manage attendees, send notifications, and build calendar views. We'll also be integrating with our website to allow on-line sign-up and other things for attendees to manage on their own. We do expect to implement quite a bit of it in-house, but we'd like as broad of a base to start from as we can get. Still, just a really good web-based meeting-room reservation system might make a good enough starting point.   • Unable to open Synaptic manager, unable to install packages, what can I do?

    I have installed the sun java6-jdk package but it's not installed completely. After that it's giving an error when I try to install a new package. In terminal when I write "sudo apt-get install [any package name]" I get an error like this: E: could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock -open (11 Resource temporable ) E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg). Also Synaptic package manager is not opening and none of the packages are downloading through any of the methods I know. Please help!

  • On WHM/cPanel how can you tell which packages are in use?

    I want to find out a) which packages are currently in use, and b) which accounts are using them, so I can do some housekeeping. If I go to 'Show Reseller Accounts', it'll list all the accounts by reseller and I can see which accounts use which, so I could go the longhand route of counting through them one by one, but I wondered if there's a way of getting a simple listing. NB: I've seen that if I go to 'Edit Reseller privileges & nameservers' for one of my resellers, I'll see a 'Package limits' table which has a 'Current' column that shows exactly what I'm looking for... but it's for that reseller only, and I don't get this table for resellers that have no package limits (e.g. me).

    I'm trying to follow the Ubuntu OpenCV documentation at OpenCV. The provided script has a line which executed for some time, taking away more packages than I expected (such as ubuntu-studio video); sudo apt-get -qq remove ffmpeg x264 libx264-dev When the script gets to the line below, it bombs; sudo apt-get -qq install libopencv-dev build-essential checkinstall cmake pkg-config yasm libtiff4-dev libjpeg-dev libjasper-dev libavcodec-dev libavformat-dev libswscale-dev libdc1394-22-dev libxine-dev libgstreamer0.10-dev libgstreamer-plugins-base0.10-dev libv4l-dev python-dev python-numpy libtbb-dev libqt4-dev libgtk2.0-dev libfaac-dev libmp3lame-dev libopencore-amrnb-dev libopencore-amrwb-dev libtheora-dev libvorbis-dev libxvidcore-dev x264 v4l-utils ffmpeg The error msg is; E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages. I've since run Update-Manager, run sudo apt-get updates, rebooted, tried the above script line manually, and still no change. I've just run sudo apt-get install -f and nothing seemed to change. It did mention that some packages were no longer needed and could be removed by apt-get autoremove, so I ran that. It removed a number of packages, so I reran the install command above. Still same problem of held broken packages. I just ran sudo apt-get -u dist-upgrade Part of the response was; The following packages have been kept back: gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg I'm not sure what that means. I do know that it shows up in my Update-Manager and cannot be checked I then ran sudo dpkg --configure -a and then reran sudo apt-get -f install and the package was still not upgraded, though there was this very interesting comment; Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of Incoming.     I upgraded from 11.10 to 12.04, had no issues that I noticed. Recently tried to install something via software center, but it was throwing errors. Changed to trying to sudo apt-get install instead but again no luck. I've genuinely tried as much as I know to fix this, but I can't so I figured I'd ask here. I've done sudo apt-get update successfully but sudo apt-get upgrade failed with... You might want to run ‘apt-get -f install’ to correct these. I have a PPA with 2 packages: mypackage (currently version 1~ppa1~quantal) mypackagelib (currently version 1~ppa1~quantal) Currently, the control file of mypackage has: Depends: mypackagelib I want to update the 2 packages to version '2' (mypackage version 2 and mypackagelib version 2). How can I make sure that the 2 packages will be updated when the user updates 'mypackage' ? FYI, changing the 'Depends' field to: Depends: mypackagelib (>= 2) does NOT work, and returns the following error: mypackage : Depends: mypackagelib (>= 2) but mypackagelib-2~ppa1~quantal is to be installed
