Missing over 100GB of Space on sda1 RHEL

I have a server setup with a RAID 5 using (3) 500GB drives, 1 as a spare so unused in the RAID. So in my mind i start out with 990GB with the RAID 5 in place. When looking at DF or the built in disk space utility i only see a total of about 882GB, how can i find where the 100+GB went? How can i get it back? I've checked the RAID 5 BIOS and i see all the space. I've tried looking manually and through terminal commands with no luck. Can't find my.cnf on my VPS

Ok i am a total noob when it comes to servers (but eager to learn). I am renting a VPS so i can host a magento store. The VPS is using Centos5 and DirectAdmin and XEN virtualization. I've read a bit about how to optimize magento and one suggestion is to edit 'my.cnf'. However i can't find this file anywhere from within DirectAdmin. I also can't connect to the VPS via console as my host has a console access via their website but it won't let me enter my root password it just hangs...(how do people normally connected to their linux VPS?) Please help? ThankYou.

Find which php scripts cause high CPU with php-cgi

Background: I maintain a server for a client who has half a dozen Wordpress sites on. They all have the W3 Total Cache plugin installed and eAcellerator is installed (might be APC). All the PHP sites run through a single batch of fastcgi php-cgi processes (it's actually php-fpm but I'm not sure if that makes a difference). Problem: php-cgi's CPU usage is quite high. Not terminally high but high enough to raise an eyebrow. The client wants to add more sites in the future and I want to avoid becoming CPU limited if I can help it. Question: Is there any way I can find the scripts or even just requests that are causing the high CPU. I realise I might not be able to do anything with the results but it would give me a chance.

windows 7 file explorer preview window and password protected word docs

When using the windows 7 explorer with the preview pane open you get a little preview of a file when you click on it. This includes Word and Excel spreadsheets etc. My problem is if the Word doc is password protected clicking on it in explorer automatically asks for the password to display its preview. It does this if you single or double clicking on it. You then get an empty Word instance running (which allows it to display the preview) and another instance of Word with your actual file and you're asked for the password twice in total. This is annoying and untidy. Is there a way of stopping the preview pane from wanting to display password protected documents and thus not asking for the password to display a preview?

DotNetOpenAuth OpenIdTextBox For Google/Yahoo

If I want to integrate DotNetOpenAuth (primary for people to use their Google/Yahoo accounts to login, not act as provider) into my existing site, is this one line control good enough? <rp:OpenIdTextBox ID="OpenIdTextBox1" runat="server" /> Say, if a user wants to login as Google, I can simply set the textbox to "https://www.google.com/accounts/o8/id" and then they can login. I tried it with my Google account, it seems working and I can get the token from HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name. Is this "one line" solution secure enough for production? or is it a "must" that I have to use "OpenIdSelector" or "OpenIDLogin" control? I also opened the .net template and some samples, they are very complicated. There are PAPE policies, xrds.aspx (for discovery), ConsumerKey + ConsumerSecret...etc. As a newbie, I am very confused. Any tips on this will be really appreciated. Thanks

Automatic time tracking with central server, web reports

I need a software for automatic time tracking on Windows. With the following features: It should record time spent using the computer each day. Start time and end time. It should record what programs the employee used and total time for that program for specified period of time. It must have a centralized server that collects and stores all data. It could be a cloud server outside of a company network. It must have a web interface for viewing the monthly reports (the last but the most important requirement!). A nice feature to have would be an automatic generation of timesheets and Mac OS X support. I am looking to use it for a small team, this is not for personal use. Does anybody knows about software with these features?

Error pushing to remote with git

I have a fresh Centos 6 server stood up and I have installed git version 1.7.1 through yum. I am using the smart http method through apache for access. When I try to push to the remote server this is what I get: $ git push origin master Password: Counting objects: 6, done. Compressing objects: 100% (3/3), done. Writing objects: 100% (6/6), 436 bytes, done. Total 6 (delta 0), reused 0 (delta 0) error: unpack failed: index-pack abnormal exit I have tried these things which made no difference: chown -R apache:apache /path/to/git/repository (httpd runs as apache) chown -R apache:users /path/to/git/repository chmod -R 777 /path/to/git/repository (obviously not secure but wanted to eliminate this being a file permission problem) What can I try to get pushing to work?

Version Control for developers new to source control

I've been writing code for a few years now and our backup strategy has been to zip the entire code directory up every few days and put it somewhere else on your hard drive, or occasionally upload it to some online file hosting service. Unfortunately the file hosting service got canceled without telling me and we lost years of backups. It's come down to the point where I finally have to learn to use version control. The only problems are My boss really doesn't like SVN, he tried it and it had a high learning curve (at least his client). We need a reliable place to host it (we can pay a reasonable amount). Can someone suggest what may be the best version control system and client for a newbie which won't be too annoying. Second what is a good remote version control service?

Problem creating site using Microsoft Visual Web Developer Express 2008

Hi, this is a very newbie question, sorry! I need to create an aspx website based con C# and am calling some webservices based on some DLL's I already have. Beforem purchasing Visual Studio, I decided to try Microsoft Visual Web Developer Express (is this ok?) creating a Web Application ASP.NET based on Visual C#. I created the form to enter the data which is submitted when clicking the process button. At this point I need to call stuff from the DLL, which I have added in the Solution Explorer via Add Reference, selecting the DLL from the COM list. But whenever I run the project, I always get the error "the type or namespace xxx cannot be found - maybe a using directive or assembler directive is missing" when trying to create the object. What is my stupid mistake? Thanks!

ZFS: Redistribute zvol over all disks in the zpool?

Is there a way in which ZFS can be prompted to redistribute a given filesystem over the all of the disks in its zpool? I'm thinking of a scenario where I have a fixed size ZFS volume that's exported as a LUN over FC. The current zpool is small, just two 1TB mirrored disks, and the zvol is 750GB in total. If I were to suddenly expand the size of the zpool to, say, 12 1TB disks, I believe the zvol would still effectively be 'housed' on the first two spindles only. Given that more spindles = more IOPS, what method could I use to 'redistribute' the zvol over all 12 spindles to take advantage of them?

Sar data not collected for 10 minutes

We have a RedHat server whose only job is to run a JBoss server. Monitors said that memory usage spiked (we have the JVM limited to far less than the total memory on the system) and JBoss crashed. We restarted and everything seems ok now. Odd thing is that sar data for 10 min leading up to the crash is simply not there. Load average got up to the 50s. I have seen severely busy systems (350+ Load Average) still collect sar data. Does anyone have any idea what could cause sar to stop collecting data?

Monitoring outgoing bandwidth of application

I currently have a VPS that is consuming a ton of outgoing bandwidth and I am trying to drill down to where this may be coming from. Does anyone know of a logical way to go about finding out which pages on the site are consuming the most outgoing data. We have done a ton of front-end optimizations to the site and our google page speed rankings ar 85% so I feel we have done a pretty great job at optimizing the site for speed. Passing parameters to a flash movie inserted in a VB program

Hi! I need to insert a Flash movie in a Visual Basic 2008 express form and send parameters to the movie, but am a newbie to VB. The flash movie will plot points sent by VB in a graph. I tried to insert the Shockwave Flash control in the form but cannot find it anywhere. So I inserted the webbrowser control, which I understand can be used to a similar purpose. But how would I send the values of X and Y (coordinates to plot in Flash) to the flash swf? Thanks for any help!

Differences in memory consumption between two identical D7 sites?

I'm running Drupal on a news site that has a lot of different View blocks on the front page (~5 total, all cached). In trying to reduce the memory footprint of the site, I've checked out source from SVN to a local development install to try and convert some of those blocks into more optimized code. Here's the weird thing. Devel module lists memory consumption at 50mb on the Production site (Running Nginx, PHP 5.2.17, XCache and Zend Optimizer.) but only 14mb on my development site (Running Apache2, PHP 5.2.13 and XCache). These are nearly-identical versions of the same site — frankly, the Production site should use even less memory as I've disabled some of the modules running on the Dev site. Any idea why this might be the case?

Hello, I was about to develop iphone app and I want suggestion from the expert since I am totally newbie in it. I have one classified website which is written in php and mysql. What I want to create is Iphone app which can view those classifieds. There will be no complicated function at first version. It will be have different categories and query and display according to the category. And if there's new classified ad, they will get push notification. What I want to know is, what should i go with ? Native or using phonegap ? Is phonegap supports push notification ? Is native app can just get the results through mysql ? or do i need to change it to sql lite ? Any speed different between native and phone gap ? Any advantages and disadvantages ? Thanks.

Apache 2: SetEnvIf "IP Range"

In my Apache config I want to set an environment variable if I see that the visitor comes from an specific IP range. Currently I do it this way: SetEnvIfNoCase Remote_Addr "^194\.8\.7[45]\." banned=spammer-ip SetEnvIfNoCase Remote_Addr "^212\.156\.170\." banned=spammer-ip What I would prefer is something like this: SetEnvIfIpRange 194.8.74.0/23 banned=spammer-ip SetEnvIfIpRange 212.156.170.0/24 banned=spammer-ip ... because I think that converting an IP address to a string and then do an regular expression is a total waste of ressources. I could do an Deny From 194.8.74.0/23 ... but then I don't get a variable that I can check in my 403 error page - to find the reason why access has been denied. Any suggestions what I might miss? Is there an Apache2 MOD that can set environment variables based on "IP Address Ranges"?

How can I tell whether an interrupted rm -r removed any files?

I installed sshfs a Linux box and then mounted my Mac home directory. In the middle of troubleshooting a configuration issue, I did an ls -l on the mount directory (as normal user), receiving: total 0 d????????? ? ? ? ? ? sl I then ran sudo rm -r on that directory but pressed Ctrl+C to terminate it immediately before it (looks) like the command did anything. I notice no files missing but I want to be sure - is there a way I can somehow inspect the filesystem log on my Mac to see if any files were actually removed?

Munin Aggregated Graphs Configuration Error

I think I have followed the instructions but since its not working, I would love some assistance or guidance as to what I am doing wrong. i have small problem.... i have one content type say cars with various fields, say more than 30 , user can create the content types... now i would like to show only few fields in different phases,is there any possibility to do that. more explantaion:- user may enter the car model and car details in the first page and upload images in second page.(say a popup in the block) is this is possible ? i m newbie to drupal, i would like to do this kind of data updation, i though with designing a one more content type with the existing fields, can any one explain this issue... what if i design a content type car1 with same fields say(file uplaod) in car content type.

Restoring a Ubuntu Linux LVM drive

Scenario: I have a hard disk with a bootable sda1 partition and an Linux LVM. I seem to have corrupted the MBR? or Grub? not sure. I know it no longer boots and even with boot-repair and a Ubuntu live usb I was able to restore it. Following a "fix" with boot-repair I get "missing operating system" Can't i just reinstall grub or a new menu.lst? I've multiple xsl:if checks like <xsl:if test="node/node1"> ...</xsl:if> ... <xsl:if test="node/node1"> ...</xsl:if> ... <xsl:if test="node/node1"> ... </xsl:if> Is there a way to parameterize the test condition to make the code more readable and easy to maintain? Maybe with a variable or something like <xsl:variable name="node1Present" select="true()"/> <xsl:if test="$node1Present"> ... </xsl:if> I don't understand how to construct the variable to reflect the 'test a node exist' (test="node/node1")

How many times can data be read from a USB flash drive?

While I am aware that performing writes on a USB flash drive degrades the life expectancy of the device. I have heard the quantity of writes is anywhere from 100 thousand to 10 million, but I have not heard about number of read operations. Does reading from the device count toward this total? I am interested in writing only once to a flash drive and setting it to read-only. Then reading files from the device a thousand or more times per day, but am wondering if (at say 1,000 reads per day), the flash drive will need to be replaced within 100 days (assuming a 100,000 r/w cycle lifetime)?
