• Authenticating on TFS 2010

  Hi, I'm having trouble authenticating as a specific user on MS Team Foundation Server. In older versions it would look like: teamFoundationCredential = new System.Net.NetworkCredential("<USERNAME>", "<PASSWORD>", "<DOMAIN>"); TeamFoundationServer tfs = new TeamFoundationServer("http://mars:8080/", teamFoundationCredential); Can some one tell me the equivilent for the 2010 version. • Fulltext and composite indexes and how they affect the query

  Just say I had a query as below.. SELECT name,category,address,city,state FROM table WHERE MATCH(name,subcategory,category,tag1) AGAINST('education') AND city='Oakland' AND state='CA' LIMIT 0, 10; ..and I had a fulltext index as name,subcategory,category,tag1 and a composite index as city,state; is this good enough for this query? Just wondering if something extra is needed when mixing additional AND's when making use of the fulltext index with the MATCH/AGAINST. Edit: What I am trying to understand is, what happens with the additional columns that are within the query but are not indexed in the chosen index (the fulltext index), the above example being city and state. How does MySQL now find the matching rows for these since it can't use two indexes (or can it?) - so, basically, I'm trying to understand how MySQL goes about finding the data optimally for the columns NOT in the chosen fulltext index and if there is anything I can or should do to optimize the query.

• DB2 Select - Replace STATES with two character code

  I have a Users Table where it stores city, state and country along with other Users attributes. The states are stored as California, Alabama and so forth. Now I want to retrieve the user information for certain records but the state should get translated to two digit code. Say 'California' should be 'CA'. How should I go about doing this. I was thinking to create a mapping table for state names with there abbreviation and then use some sort of replace function to do it. Any ideas ?

  Currently I am developing a CakePHP that will list various businesses. In the database, there is a table for businesses that lists them like so: id | name | address | city | state | state_id | zip | url The state column are abbreviations of states (for listing purposes) CA, AK, FL, etc and the state_id matches up with the ids in the states table: id | name | state_abbr I have an admin_add.ctp template with form helpers for inserting new businesses. For entering a state for a business I am going to have a pull down that lists all the states. However, how do I make the database insert so it will know how to add the state abbreviation and state id when I submit the form to add the business?

• opening iWorks documents in iPad UIWebView

  Hello, I'm writing an iPad application that has a UIWebView which I open word and excel documents in, but I want the user to be able to import those documents into the iWorks applications, Pages and Numbers, just like how you can do it in Safari if you open a document. If you open a document in Safari on the iPad, there'll be a button on the top bar that says "Open in..." and you can choose applications to open in. You get the top bar to appear by tapping on middle of the page. So is there an option you can set to allow UIWebView to show up the bar and automatically detect the content type and populate the list with applications you can import in? Or do I have to build this myself? And if I have to build my own, how do I open URLs to import documents into Pages and Numbers etc? Thanks, -David

• In Scala 2.8 collections, why was the Traversable type added above Iterable?

  I know that to be Traversable, you need only have a foreach method. Iterable requires an iterator method. Both the Scala 2.8 collections SID and the "Fighting Bitrot with Types" paper are basically silent on the subject of why Traversable was added. The SID only says "David McIver... proposed Traversable as a generalization of Iterable." I have vaguely gathered from discussions on IRC that it has to do with reclaiming resources when traversal of a collection terminates? The following is probably related to my question. There are some odd-looking function definitions in TraversableLike.scala, for example: def isEmpty: Boolean = { var result = true breakable { for (x <- this) { result = false break } } result } I assume there's a good reason that wasn't just written as: def isEmpty: Boolean = { for (x <- this) return false true }

  Based on my limited understanding of this parameter [1] it seems to be used in representing cookieless session IDs in java applications... but strangely, we're now noticing that a 3-year-old .NET stack is now appearing in Bing SERPs with GXHC_gx_session_id appended to the domain - and we're not alone: http://www.bing.com/search?q=GXHC_gx_session_id http://www.google.ca/#hl=en&q=GXHC_gx_session_id When comparing Google SERPs to Bing SERPs there are some inconsistencies in whether a particular site carries this parameter - is it then a bing-specific issue only?   I am a regex newbie and can't seem to figure this one out.   Hi, I've got a collection of object which contains data as follows: FromTime Duration 2010-12-28 24.0000 2010-12-29 24.0000 2010-12-30 24.0000 2010-12-31 22.0000 2011-01-02 1.9167 2011-01-03 24.0000 2011-01-04 24.0000 2011-01-05 24.0000 2011-01-06 24.0000 2011-01-07 22.0000 2011-01-09 1.9167 2011-01-10 24.0000 In the "FromTime" column, there are data "gaps" i.e. 2011-01-01 and 2011-01-08 are "missing". So what I'd like to do is to loop through a range of dates (in this instance 2010-12-28 to 2011-01-10) and "fill in" the "missing" data with a duration of 0. As I've just started with LINQ, I feel that it should be "fairly" easy but I can't quite get it right. I'm reading the book "LINQ in Action" but feel that I'm still quite a way off before I can resolve this particular issue. So any help would be much appreciated. David

• Weird IF THAN not working with Requested data from URL text problem

  Hey all, i am checking for an internet connection by checking for a file on my server. The file only has the word LIVE displayed on the page. No HTML or anything else is there, just the word LIVE. When i run this code, i do get the NSLog as saying "LIVE" but once i go to check it with the IF statement, it fails and i just do not know why??? • Regular Expression; Find whether a line contains any word with more than X characters.

  Hi, I am trying to use a Validator on a ASP.NET site and need to find whether the Street Address textbox contains a valid entry. Entries with words that are longer than X characters (in this case 25, with no punctuation or spaces) will cause the HTML on a printed A4 page to not wrap properly and therefore not to confrom to certain sizes correctly pushing the margins off. For a street address I want to match that something like "201 Long Road" is valid but "235 ReallyLongAndNarrowWindingRoadBesideTheRiver Street" is invalid. Using a Microsoft .Net Regular Expression Validator I need to know what the RegEx pattern might be. I think if it does find a match the Validator will fire correctly however if there is no match the Validator won't fire and the Update button (in this case) won't fire. Since Street addresses can contain Capital Letters and numbers etc. it will need to accomodate for that and also Spaces, Commas, Semi-Colons and Colons and Hyphens are valid characters too. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am really stuck with this problem. Thanks, David

  I have to delete about 10K rows from a table that has more than 100 million rows based on some criteria. When I execute the query, it takes about 5 minutes. I ran an explain plan (the delete query converted to select * since MySQL does not support explain delete) and found that MySQL uses the wrong index. My question is: is there any way to tell MySQL which index to use during delete? If not, what ca I do? Select to temp table then delete from temp table? Thank you!

• Connect to Oracle 11g using VS2010.net Drivers/Cleints

  Hey all i am trying to redistribute my app that uses Oracle 11g: Imports Oracle.DataAccess.Client The problem i am having is that it will not run on a machine that doesnt seem to have the correct drivers that its looking for. When i install ODAC 11.2 Release 3 (11.2.0.2.1) with Oracle Developer Tools for Visual Studio on the test VM it works just fine but thats a 230+mb file to download and install! Not to mention that if the user already has Oracle 10/11g on their machine that it may mess up their current connections/etc by installing that setup file. Is there another setup package that i can install that only has the Oracle Data Provider for .NET 2.0 11.2.0.2.0 or whatever its needing from that ODAC 11.2 Release 3 file. So any help about what i need to go about fixing this problem would be great! :) Thanks, David

• CALayer not obeying object ownership rules?

  I have a custom CALayer - UIProgressLayer - for simulating a progress bar. There is a dispatched GC timer involved to animate its intermediate state. So thats the layer I'm talking about here, although i don't think the problem is restricted to this particular subclass because a CALayer with only the -release and -dealloc overridden produces the same outcome. The problem is when i send this layer, for instance, a theLayer.opacity = 0.5f a -release message is sent to the layer, thus deallocating my layer. Why is this happening? Has it something to do with how the whole CA system works? But it still has to obey the object ownership rules right? I was thinking maybe it creates a copy of that layer for the fading, but that's not the case.

• Why are there two implementations of std::sort (with and without a comparator) rather than one implementation with a default template parameter?

  In my code I'm adopting a design strategy which is similar to some standard library algorithms in that the exact behavior can be customized by a function object. The simplest example is std::sort, where a function object can control how the comparison is made between objects. I notice that the Visual C++ provides two implementations of std::sort, which naturally involves code duplication. I would have imagined that it was instead possible to have only one implementation, and provide a default comparator (using operator< ) as a default template parameter. What is the rational behind two separate versions? Would my suggestion make the interface more complex in some way? Or result in confusing error messages when the object does not provide operator Thanks, David

  We want to create a calendar view in a room scheduling application. The outcome we want is to have hours open (variable depending on day) across the top of the grid and the names of the rooms down the left side of the grid. The body would be populated with bookings for that day. The visual we're seeking is similar to the "Weekly Builder" plugin for Rails (http://dmix.ca/2009/06/weeklybuilder-a-weekly-calendar-plugin-for-rails/). We've tried using CSS to create variably-sized images, but this isn't working out. Are there any plugins available or other ways anyone can think of to accomplish this kind of visual? Thanks

• Toggle Image Overlays in Google Maps API v3

  Hey guys. I've been building a small library for myself for a job I have at the moment building a map for a university. I've gotten pretty well everything I need in some basic form, but one thing has simply not been working, and is simply not giving me results. The university itself is sort of in a partnership with the neighboring college. It's been decided that both campuses should be included. I need to be able to toggle on/off the overlays of the campuses individually. i.e. Start with all campuses ON. User then turns OFF college campus, university overlay stays up. User can then turn it back on to display the college once more, or turn off the university as well, leaving no overlays. Here's a work in progress I'm doing at the moment: http://bgsweb.ca/maps/generator.html Basically, we need to take the one overlay, split it into multiple overlays, and enable the toggling of each individual overlay. • New to VS.net (VB.net) 2008. Windows 7 aero glass stuff.

  Hey all, i have been using VB.net 2008 for a few months and i have a question. I compiled my program and ran it in a VM running windows 7. However, the progress bar looks like it does in XP. It doesn't have that cool look to it like I've seen in many other programs running in windows 7. I have downloaded the 3.5 .net framework with sp1 and also the sdk for windows 7 (1.4+ gb dvd) but i still see nothing. Is there a check-box i am missing in VS 2008 to enable these types of features? Maybe some type of code i need to place in the program? Thanks! David
