  • Ria Services vs WCF Dataservices

    My Team are evaluation to a bigger Business portal. (Invoicing, Bookkeeping, Salaries.....) We are all used to work with DDD, O/R mappers with NHibernate as our first choice. We have chosen to work with CompositeWPF to keep modularity between all modules and part system in the business portal. Now we have evaluated Ria Services and are kind of disappointed how it works in a Data Oriented way, Data Oriented can be good in a service oriented scenario, but we feel that we can with an Object Oriented approach to, and we feel that we can get an application with less complexity with the OO approach than the DO approach. For example it doesn't allow Value Objects, Many-to-many relations, everything needs to have keys and so on. We haven't looked at WCF Data Services yet so our question is WCF Data Services our answere? Does it integrate good with Silverlight 4? Can we work with it in a OO manor?

    Hi, Let's say I have a php application backed-end with SQLite and I would like to convert whole application to exe file so the end user can just click it and run on windows. User should be able to save, update and add new data into database without any web server or browser things. Is it possible? I found out that we can use PHP-GTK for UI. exeoutput.com supports with database engines according to it's website. Anyone have tried it out? If I'm missing something, pls share with me.   • Tutorials for .NET database app using SQLite

    I have some MS Access experience, and had a class on console c++ apps, now I am trying to develop my first program. It's a little C# db app. I have the db tables and columns planned and keyed into VS, but that's where I'm stuck. I'm needing C#/VS tutorials that will guide me on configuring relationships, datatyping, etc, on the db so I can get it ready for testing of the schema. The only tutorials I've been able to find either talk about general db basics (ie, not helping me with VS/C#), or about C# communications with an existing SQL db. Thank you. (In case it matters, I'm using the open source System.Data.SQLite (sqlite.phxsoftware.com) for the db. I chose it over SQL Server CE after seeing a comparison between the two. Also I wanted a server-less version of SQL because this little app will be on other people's computers and I want to to do as little support as possible.)

    Short version: How can I map two columns from table A and B if they both have a common identifier which in turn may have two values in column C Lets say: A --- 1 , 2 B --- ? , 3 C ----- 45, 2 45, 3 Using table C I know that id 2 and 3 belong to the same item ( 45 ) and thus "?" in table B should be 1.   • Need to parse HTML document for links-- use a library like html5lib or something else?

    I'm a very newbie webpage builder, currently working on creating a website that needs to change link colours according to the destination page. The links will be sorted into different classes (e.g. good, bad, neutral) by certain user input criteria-- e.g. links with content the user would find of interest is colored blue, stuff that the user (presumably) doesn't want to see is colored as normal text, etc. I reckon I need a way to parse the webpage for links to the content (stored in MySQL database), change the colors for all the links on the page (so I need to be able to change the link classes in the HTML as well) before outputting the adapted page to the user. I read that regex is not a good way to find those links-- so should I use a library, and if so, is html5lib good for what I'm doing?

    I asked on SO a few days ago what was the simplest quickest way to build a wrapper around a recently completed database. I took the advice and used sqlmetal to build linq classes around my database design. Now I am having two problems. One, I don't know LINQ. And, two, I have been shocked to realize how hard it is to learn. I have a book on LINQ (Linq In Action by Manning) and it has helped some but at the end of the day it is going to take me a couple of weeks to get traction and I need to make some progress on my project today. So, I am looking for some help getting started. Click HERE To see my simple database schema. Click HERE to see the vb class that was generated for the schema. My needs are simple. I have a console app. The main table is the SupplyModel table. Most of the other tables are child tables of the SupplyModel table. I want to iterate through each of Supply Model records. I want to grab the data for a supply model and then DoStuff with the data. And I also need to iterate through the child records, for each supply model, for example the NumberedInventories and DoStuff with that as well. I want to only iterate the SupplyModels that are have IDs that are in an array of strings containing the IDs. I need help doing this in VB rather than C# if possible. Thanks for your help. Seth

  • jQuery: How can I check if a block in my document is inside the viewport or outside of it?

    I am basically trying to trigger a function if the footer is inside the viewport. How can I check whether the footer is currently visible in the viewport? I assume I will have to put it into the $(window).scroll() event so that the listener becomes true once the footer becomes visible but what the function should be I just can't figure out.     Hi folks, I wish to make sure that my data has a constraint the following check (constraint?) in place This table can only have one BorderColour per hub/category. (eg. #FFAABB) But it can have multiple nulls.     Hi, first of, I don't know much about XSL. I am using a app called DITA to generate pdfs. One of the things it requires is an overwrite of an xsl file; to add custom styling. I am trying to add an external graphic using a relative path. It doesn't work, unless I supply the full path. Does not work: <fo:block text-align="center" width="100%"> <fo:external-graphic src="../../images/logo.png"/> </fo:block> Does work: <fo:block text-align="center" width="100%"> <fo:external-graphic src="/absolute/path/to/images/logo.png"/> </fo:block> I looked on the web, it said to use "file:image.png" and other website said to use "url(image.png)", but neither worked. What am I doing wrong?

  • Bulkinsert from CSV into db (C#) -> max number of rows in a web application?

    Web application - C#, .Net, SQL 2k5. I recently used bulkinsert on an other application and I thought I would like to give it a try. I am going to receive a CSV file with 1000 rows, which will most likely add 500 000 (that is five hundred thousand) records in the database. I don't have any idea yet about this huge amount if it's going to work out well. I am afraid that it will time out. I didn't do any testing yet, but I am pretty sure it would time out eventually. Is there a way to make it not time out (I don't know ... split the bulkinsert into 1000 pieces :D) or I should try to do something like BCP, with a SQL job ...

  • What's a good pure-python, document-based and flat-file database engine?

    Hi, for development i'd love to have a flat file database with the requirements up in the title, but I don't seem to be able to find a database with these requirements. I can't seem to get MetaKit to work. I only need it to work on the development machine, but in the real world my product will have more data and needs more room and will need something better. Does anyone know of a database engine capable of this or do I need to just use python's pickle and load and save a file? Joe
