• Migrating an Active Directory domain controller to AWS

  I am required to migrate a Active Directory server into AWS with a couple other servers (SQL and IIS) to create a dev and test environment for our network / development. My plan at this time is to simply rebuild the Active Directory server in AWS from scratch - which is quite time consuming indeed! I was wondering if anyone had a recommendation as to a better and more efficient approach of migrating a copy of a physical Active Directory server to the cloud? The server is Windows Server 2012. Any helpful comments welcome.

  I have a fairly simple puppet setup, one master and one node, both running Debian Squeeze 6.0.4. I have DNS entries for the two machines, client and master respectively. Both client and master's DNS entries resolve correctly on both machines to the right IPs. • QMail do not delivery to remote mailboxes for my own domain

  Sorry for the title, I don't know how to sum up this situation. I have a web server at mydomain.com, running qmail for website related mail delivery (i.e. newsletter, sign up confirmation, etc). qmail here is used only to send mails, because I have a fully working Google App Gmail associated with mydomain.com for normal email receiving. qmail runs fine when sending email to remote addresses, for example to [email protected], but fails when sending to [email protected]. I think it's because the server thinks that he have to manage mailboxes for mydomain.com locally, instead of redirect them to Gmail.   Is it possible to rewrite somehow www.mysite.com/Pictures to point to test.mysite.com/Pictures or even more broadly www.someothersite.com/Pictures ? Note: www.mysite.com and test.mysite.com are on separate machines and built with different technologies (one is ASP.NET and the other is PHP) but I have access to both of them. I want that when I reference a picture like www.mysite.com/Pictures/pic12345.png the picture to display correctly, even though there is not /Pictures folder on that server and the pictures has to be retrieved by going to test.mysite.com/Picture/pic12345.png Ideally I want to do this in IIS6 to test it. However I am interested if it possible to do in any webserver (Apache, IIS7)

• Server 2003 Functional Domain DFS Replication Problem (Files being moved to conflicted folder for no reason)

  We have 2 Windows 2003 servers configured with a DFS namespace and we are running into problems with the redirected profiles we have setup. Basically, one server is the FSMO master for all roles, and we have another DC that is the DFS namespace primary server. We have profile redirection setup using the \dfsnamespace\userprofile formula. The FSMO master DC locks up occasionally (don't ask :), and when it does, and we bring it back up... All of the user profiles hosted on the DFS namespace get overwritten when a user logs in. The current profile gets moved to the conflicting and deleted items folder. This strikes me as really odd considering the whole point of using DFS was to provide some redundancy in case one server went down. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance! -Nate

  Server A (SQL2005) is in our primary domain, but server B (SQL2000) is just in a windows workgroup. We are not allowed to join it to the domain, or bad things happen... We also can't enable SQL authentication on server B. We've got domain accounts for A, and matching local accounts on server B. I can connect to B from my local PC or A using SSMS and a domain login, but I can't get the linked server to connect. Any ideas how to do this?

I was considering a git repo on our private code server. This does not seem secure enough though. Would you suggest and other system, or how this can be done securely with a source control system like git? Also: Does it make sense to store the CRT files and CA files in use?

  I have the following situation: Due to security reasons the screensaver is activated after 10 minutes, and immediately locks the screen. There are GPOs preventing the user from changing the screensaver parameters and the background image. In order to bypass the background policy, some users are using bginfo The problem is that for some reason now the screensaver doesn't work anymore. The settings are still the same (10 minutes; locked to the user) and comparing snapshots of the registry before and after executing bginfo doesn't show any significant modification. Any hints? EDIT 1: Ok, i figured whats going on, but now i have another question. bginfo refreshes the user settings by reading HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop, which has ScreenSaveActive. If the user set it to 0, disables the screensaver. Why isnt HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Control Panel\Desktop, which sets ScreenSaveActive to 1, being enforced? or if it is being enforced, where is bginfo storing the value 0, and how can it bypass the policy? EDIT 2: I also discovered that after setting any value to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\ScreenSaveActive, it can be deleted and the last value will remain active. For some reason HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Control Panel\Desktop\ScreenSaveActive value is not being enforced to the user.

  In my AWS Route 53 control panel I simply have 2 A records currently set up for the 'www' and the 'non www' names. Both point to the Elastic IP address associated with my EC2 Instance. This works well and my website is available at both variations but I really want all 'www' to route to the 'non www'. What is the reccomened method, using AWS Route 53, for routing all traffic that comes to... www.example.com to example.com

• SSL/https setup for herokuapp.com address rather than my actual domain

  I have a subdomain of my site pointed to a rails app at mysite.herokuapp.com. I bought a certificate from godaddy and seem to have that all set up correctly. So that when I go to: http://mysite.herokuapp.com or http://dev.mysite.com it's redirected to: https://mysite.herokuapp.com or https://dev.mysite.com The problem is that when I visit dev.mysite.com, I get the error: Safari can't verify the identity of the website. But when I go to mysite.herokuapp.com, I don't get the error. I wanted this to be set up the other way, so that dev.mysite.com did not cause the error. I'm not sure where I went wrong. I used dev.mysite.com when generating the key and when setting it up at godaddy.com. Any ideas where I should look? P.S. The old site is hosted at dreamhost and the DNS info is stored there as well. So I created a subdomain there of type cname which points to mysite.herokuapp.com.

  We're playing a going-away prank on a coworker, and would like to use a rule in our internal DNS server to redirect techcrunch.com to point at one of our internal development servers. Basically, I'd like to accomplish the same thing as adding a line to a Linux /etc/hosts file, only for the entire network. I have access to our DNS server. How would you go about doing this? I created an entry in the reverse lookup subnet with the 'Host Name' of techcrunch.com and the 'Host IP' of our development server, a Linux box running Debian on which I've created a virtualhost to handle requests to techcrunch.com. It doesn't appear to be working, however, and my expertise has reached its limit. Thanks!

  I'm trying to allow a service to a set of machines via Windows Firewall. I'd like to add my home machine to the firewall but my home machine has a dynamic ip address. I use dyndns so that I have a hostname which I can always connect to. So I'm trying to see if there is a way I can use my hostname instead of an IP. Thanks Update Let me add a little more information, perhaps there are other ways to resolve my issue. The server is a web server hosted by RackSpace. I only want to allow RDP access from my work (static IP, so no problem) and home (dynamic). My home IP doesn't change too often, just often enough to annoy me. So maybe there is a better way to do this... maybe VPN?

The problem is that a different desktop loads for only one specific user no matter what changes I make in administrative templates. If I copy this user profile and paste it into another group with a different name, windows workaround loads as it should, but some policies are not applied. Does anybody know a way to solve this problem instead of creating a new group and user from scratch?

• Domino 8.5.3: Attaching an Object Residing on Server (Lotusscript preferred)

I am working on an application and one of the function is to automatically send an email with an attachment. I can code the application to attach the object when it resides on local or on a mapped drive. Newbie Question: Is there a way to have the object reside on the Domino server, and still be able to point to it and have the application automatically attach and send? Is there any method that allows me to do this? Users have no direct access to the server/filesystem, so mapped drive of the Domino server is out of the question. Hope someone can shed some light on this question. Thanks!

  If I were to get 2 SSL certificates, one for example.com and one for www.example.com, is there a way to install them both on the site example.com in DirectAdmin? The default interface only allows installing one for both versions. If not, can I separate the 2 domains into 2 sites? One of them would only be a redirection, so there wouldn't be any duplication of site files. (Please don't answer with "one certificate should work for both". It doesn't always.   My environment is Ubuntu 12.04, Nginx 1.20, and Torquebox 2.0.3 which is actually JBoss AS 7. I have two app deployed on Torquebox, it listens to 8080 and have different hostnames, app1.mydomain.com and app2.mydomain.com. I added 127.0.0.1 app1.mydomain.com and 127.0.0.1 app2.mydomain.com in /etc/hosts then I curl app1.mydomain.com:8080 and curl app2.mydomain.com:8080 both have correct return. Then I go to my nginx.   I'm in the process of looking into the possibility of moving our TFS 2010 Application Tier to another server from the one it is on at the moment so that we can repurpose the hardware. I've been looking through the Microsoft Documentation over at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms404869.aspx, but this assumes that everything is stored on one box (Application and Data tiers). In my setup however, our Data tier is separate to the Application tier and will be staying where it is. I think I should be able to do this but for my own peace of mind, would there be any issues or implications if I merely installed the Application Tier on the new hardware and then connected it to the existing data tier?

• Tracking which computer printed a document on Windows 2003 domain

  Currently, when a user prints a document there is an Event ID 10 recorded in our event log. We have mostly XP Clients on a Win2003 domian. However, I cannot tell which computer this user printed a document from. How can I track which computer a user used to print a particular document? If possible, a free solution would be better.
