• Archiving Database Tables using Java

  My application demands archiving database tables between sybase and db2 and vice-a-versa and within(db2 to db2 and sybase to sybase) using java. I am trying to understand the best strategies around in terms performance, implementation, ease of use and scalability. Here is my current process - source and destination tables with the acceptable parameters (from java) are defined within xml. the application reads the source and destination configurations and execute them sequentially. destination is sometime optional when source is just deleting data from a specific table or when the source is just calling a stored procedure. dataset between source and destination is extremely large (in millions) From top of my head, it looks like I can define dependencies between multiple source and destination combination and have them execute in parallel in multiple treads. But will this improve any performance(i hope it will)? Are there any open-source frameworks for data archiving using java? Any other thoughts on the implements side will be really helpful. Thanks

• Bind Grid.Row / Grid.Column inside a DataTemplate

  Hope this is not a dupe. I would like to be able to do the following in XAML: <DataTemplate DataType="{x:Type NewGACCTestApp:ButtonVM}"> <Button Grid.Column="{Binding GridColumn}" Grid.Row="{Binding GridRow}" Content="{Binding Path=Info}" /> </DataTemplate> The Content binding works fine but Grid.Column and Grid.Row simply don't exist in the produced object. Not even when I set them to some value without binding (like in Grid.Column="1"). I've snooped the application and saw that inside my grid nobody ever sets Grid.Column and Grid.Row. Any ideas?

  How guys. I'm not top dev in java, but what I`m really not is cocoa top dev :P I would like to have your assistance to produce a layout with cocoa and IB to work just like the CardLayout in Java. Do you have some idea of how to do it? Thanks for the attention! EDIT: CardLayout: A set of panels ("cards") are designed to compose a "deck of cards".It works like a queue of panels, in which only the first "card" is shown on the interface.I can easily interchange between cards if I want so to modify the interface to the user.   This question is in continuation to How to get attributes of container in jquer, I have different containers on my webpage and all of them have <div id = "some values"> now how can I get attributes values separately for each component ? Is there any way I can know which attribute id belong to which container div ? Currently I am using : var id = $( '.promotion' ).attr( 'id' ); But if I have multiple promotional components on page and all have same div attribute as id than how can I relate that this particular attribute id belonged to this specific container ? Update: I am having a function which is called for each container present on the page and so if I am using above mentioned code than will it not always return me the first match for id in the div and would never go to other divs and so I will always get same value for id which is for the first container ? If so than what is the work around for this ? Hope this question is clear.

So right now I am using me of this: function checkpoints() { var postThis = 'checker.php?userid='+ $('#user_id_points').val(); $.post(postThis, function(data){ $(".vispoints").html(data).find(".vispoints1").fadeIn("slow") }); setTimeout(checkpoints, 5000); } This function repeats each 5 seconds (sending request each 5 seconds) and running the checker.php each 5 seconds, to show how many points you got. (checker.php echo out how many points you've got in a span class vispoints1). Now isnt there a smarter method doing this, instead of sending requests like this all the time.. I mean sites like facebook and that, they dont do like this to check if you e.g got a new friend request? Hope you can help me find a better method examples would be good too.

• iPhone Wait For Animation Ending

  Hi, In an iPhone application, I try to catch animation endings using setAnimationDidStopSelector. I try to suspend code execution until animation ends. I have tried this; set a global BOOL variable, set it to TRUE before commiting animation and after commiting animations waited using a while loop. In the setAnimationDidStopSelector, set the BOOL variable to FALSE and hope while loop to break. But unluckily this did not work, the code did not even fall into setAnimationDidStopSelector (I check that with some trace outputs). What do you suggest?

• C# move file as soon as it becomes available.

  Hi, I need to accomplish the following task: Attempt to move a file. If file is locked schedule for moving as soon as it becomes available. I am using File.Move which is sufficient for my program. Now the problems are that: 1) I can't find a good way to check if the file I need to move is locked. I am catching System.IO.IOException but reading other posts around I discovered that the same exception may be thrown for different reasons as well. 2) Determining when the file gets unlocked. One way of doing this is probably using a timer/thread and checking the scheduled files lets say every 30 seconds and attempting to move them. But I hope there is a better way using FileSystemWatcher. This is a .net 3.5 winforms application. Any comments/suggestions are appreciated. Thanks for attention.

• NSCFType keeps occurring, something is not being released?

  I'm attempting to delete files from the documents directory using a tableview/array combination. For some reason, my NSString pointing to the Documents directory path is being converted to a NSCFType (which after some research, I understand is happening because a variable is not being released). Because of this, the application crashes at the line NSString *lastPath = [documentsDirectory stringByAppendingPathComponent:temp]; claiming that NSCFType cannot recognize the method stringByAppendingPathComponent. • mysql inserts & updates optimized

  This is an optimization question, mostly. I have many forms on my sites that do simple Inserts and Updates. (Nothing complicated) But, several of the form's input fields are not necessary and may be left empty. (again, nothing complicated) However, my SQL query will have all columns in the Statement. My question, is it best to optimize the Inserts/Update queries appropriately? And only apply the columns that are changed into the query? We all hear that we shouldn't use the "SELECT *" query, unless it's absolutely needed for displaying all columns. But what about Inserts & Updates? Hope this makes sense. I'm sure any amount of optimization is acceptable. But I never really hear about this, specifically, from anyone.

• jQuery: how to pick unique IDs ?

  Hello. New to whole this jQuery (and javascript altogether, heh) and so far it's been excellent, but now I'm in a small pickle. Let's say I have list of forms generated from SQL database and every single one of them has to have unique id, so how I can select the specific item that is to be manipulated (changing values via php). the $("#submit").click(function()) will trigger every submit buttons on the page, so how I can the #submit to be some random id that I clicked. There might be a smarter way, but I'm new to this so try to bear with me. thought of passing the unique value with onClick="myfunction(unique_id)", but don't know how it goes with jQuery. hope this made any sense

• NSSortdescriptor, finding the path to the key I wish to use for sorting.

  Hi I am using an NSSortdescriptor to sort a collection of NSArrays, I then came across a case where the particular NSArray to be sorted contains an NSDictionary who contains an NSDictionary. I would like to sort from the string paired with a key in the last dictionary. This is how I would reference the string: NSDictionary *productDict = [MyArray objectAtIndex:index]; NSString *dealerName = [[productDict objectForKey:@"dealer"] objectForKey:@"name"]; How would I use the dealerName in my NSSortdescriptor to sort the array? • Why use a do-end block in Lua?

  I keep trying to find answers for this but fail to do so. I wanted to know, what is the do-end block actually used for? It just says values are used when needed in my book so how could I use this? Do I use it to reduce the scope of local variables by placing a function in a do-end loop and place local variables outside of the function but inside this do-end block and the variables will be seen by the function? But then can the function still be called? Sorry for being very vague. I hope that makes sense. Maybe an illustrated example might be useful ^^

Also, I want to set attribute one by one. I can't think of if my array change to 10*10. How long it could be. So, I hope you guys can give me some suggestions on shorten the code, and more readable. thz

• Can I use a single MySQL query to select distinct rows and then non-distinct rows if a limit hasn't

  I hope I'm explaining this properly, my knowledge of MySQL is quite limited. Let's say I have a table with rows that have name and shape fields. I'd like to select a bunch of rows from a table, but return all of the rows with unique shape field values first. If I have less than a certain number of rows, let's say 7, then I'd like to fill the remaining result rows with non-unique shape rows. The best way I can word it is that they're "ordered by uniqueness, and then by some other value". So, I don't want: square, square, circle, circle, rectangle, square, triangle I'd like to have: square, circle, rectangle, triangle, square, square, circle Is this possible to do using a single SQL query? I'm using MySQL with PHP, if that makes any difference. Thanks!

  How do I keep a count of the number of times that objects of a specific class (type?) are getting disposed in the lifetime of my application. Imagine I have a class A, now, I want to count how many times the objects of A get collected by the GC. I hope I am phrasing this right because I was asked this in an interview today and the answer I gave did not satisfy the interviewer. And this is what I imagine he was trying to ask. What I said was that one could keep a static field called count in the class A and increment it in the Finalize() call of that object. The answer he was expecting was something called a static block. I've never heard of this in .NET/C#. Can someone explain what's this static block?

I wanna create a usb driver, so my own C application be able to get into my flash drive and take information from the imported flash drive. • Where do enumerations belong

  At my current place of emplyment they were putting enumerations into the class they used them in. Whilst I didn't see any duplication of these enumerations I non the less thought that they didn't belong in the class so I moved them out into their own class. The reason I did that was that I wanted them to be re-usable w/out needing to reference the model class they were originally in. I got asked why I did that by the boss who disagreed with me as to my reasons for moving them and say nothing wrong with putting enumerations in a model class. So where should they be? Is it acceptable to leave enumerations in a class and hope that others in the project know to refactor your code if they want to re-use it elsewhere or should, as I did, you create an enumerations class and have them all in there?

• Add linebreak with jQuery at end of each textarea row

  So I have been googleing around for a couple of days but I have not found a solution so far, so I'm turning to you guys with hope that there even is a possible solution for this. I need to, at the end of each line in a textarea add a linebreak before it is sent to PHP. That is, even if the user does not press enter but if a word get's cut of or it just jumps down a row because it has filled the with of the textarea. And I need to do so with jQuery or Javascript. Does anyone have any good ideas on how to do so? Thanks!

  Hello, I'm new here so be kind to my stupidity :) What I need to do if Search a folder say C:\example I then need to go through each file and check to see if it matches a few start characters so if files start temp****.txt tempONE.txt tempTWO.txt So if the file starts with temp and has an extension .txt I would like to then put that file name into a File file = new File("C:/example/temp***.txt); so I can then read in the file, the loop then needs to move onto the next file to check to see if it meets as above.   I am looking at a possibility to change my ASP.NET 2.0 application to the Mono framework. I have used the Mono Migration Analyzer tool and it does detect some P/Invoke and interop dependencies. For example: 1) We use Excel interops and on Linux we are looking to use StarOffice/OpenOffice instead. Is there an easy way of substituting Excel with StarOffice? (I know it sounds bizarre, but I just don't want to miss out in case anyone has done it already.) 2) LDAP authentication: What could be the best alternative in Ubuntu (or an other flavour of Linux)? 3) Is there an Ajax framework for Mono? Preferably with similar controls as Atlas? I hope I am not too ambitious here..

• Recommend a local LDAP store for development

  Our project uses an LDAP repository for storing users. In production this will be Active Directory. For development, we seem to have a couple of options: Install an AD LDS instance that everyone uses Install an AD LDS instance on every developer machine We're trying to keep the 'F5' experience as lightweight as possible, so installing things or relying on a central AD store aren't my favorite ideas. There are other LDAP servers, like Open LDAP. I was hoping there might be an LDAP server that simply talks to an XML file. This would allow us to store the XML file in source control and have something that is fast and works. Our nightly builds would still use AD to pick up any differences, but the hope is since we're using LDAP it should Just Work. Can you recommend an LDAP implementation that works well for zero-config shared-nothing development?
